S2 810, unusual boot issue (official firmware) - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello and greetings,
I am looking for some help from the gurus here.
I bought this S2 off of ebay, as broken, no power.
plugged in with adequate power supply, the power button was not responding.
I then tried launch recovery mode, and nothing.
Then I found that this tablet would start with download mode enabled.
naturally the battery was flat, but by cancelling download moded, the tablet booted into the system.
the tablet had 5.1.1 and after allowing the tablet battery to charge up to 100%, I then performed a factory reset from within the tablet, and then restarted the tablet to check for issues.
on reboot, the tablet just went black, and again the power button, nor recovery mode would start the tablet, but here i was again able to start the tablet with download mode (cancelling dl mode when initialized).
(i did manage to enter recovery mode, im not sure, i think i was repeatedly trying the button combos and it worked. the recovery menu is untouched vanilla no twrp was installed. i delete the cache, and again performed a factory reset from the recovery console. still, no change in the power button responsiveness from power off)
the next thing I tried was to update the firmware, by grabbing official firmware from updato, and secondarily from samsung-firmware org as a backup source.
both firmwares are official release, 7.0 nougat.
ran odin, and successfully updated the firmware using the file from updato, and the tablet is now running nougat.
everything works great, except when the unit is shut down the power button alone still will not turn the tablet on. (this was the same issue as before i updated the rom to 7.0)
so the next rabbit hole i dug into was creating a bootloader file to see if that would help this issue (extracted the files and compiled into md5 bootloader using Cygwin), the bootloader flashed fine, but still no change to the power button issue. (the Cygwin method can be used to create samsung 4 files repair, but really doesn't do much if you already have the single fat file (firmware))
a couple other oddities:
occasionally the android system installer will go into erase mode, after performing a firmware install from odin, and not complete or reboot.
the system also for the first few seconds after leaving the download mode has graphical artifacts on the screen, just before the samsung logo appears. usually in the bottom half of the screen which are just random blocky colors.
i am pressed for time, and cannot add any more details at the moment, I'll get back later.
any wisdom or insight would be fantastic,
thank you.

[A] Soft bricks, blocked recovery, bootloops - RESCUE TIPS

Ok, so there are a lot of threads about soft bricks and bootloops, I have answered in a lot of threads but it seems it needs separate thread to explain how to "revive" your phone from bootloops and soft bricks.
First of all, I don't guarantee that it will work but mostly this tricks do their job.
Tricks were tested and worked on many phones, but I don't take responsibility for hard bricked phones after performing tricks from this thread.
Sometimes you need to repeat process because everything must be done with perfect timing. Also if one method won't work try another.
1. Prepare your phone to press recovery combination and while plugging phone to USB or charger, hold keys and release when samsung logo appear. Do Factory reset in recovery
2. (the best) turn on phone into download mode and don't accept terms, when phone will reboot quick hold recovery combination and release when samsung logo appear. Do Factory reset in recovery
(3). Emergency download mode (when phone wib but don't turn on screen) - take off battery for few minutes, after that time hold download combination and insert battery, wait few seconds (so normally it would boot and enter dm), accept terms by pressing volume down, connect USB and flash stock Rom
4. usefull tip - Always have backup created in CWM on phone, you never know when it will be needed. What I do is creating backup every week/two weeks, also I have stock backup. I really recomend to create backup before flashing CM while you are on stock (it will guarantee everything will 100% work if something fails), it helped me a lot of times.
(recovery combination - volume up, volume down, power, home)
(download mode - volume down, home, power / accept terms volume down, decline - volume up)
In 1 and 2 "just in case" you can flash stock Rom, when it will start to reboot after Odin finish flashing, take off battery and insert again (to stop boot process) phone should boot into recovery normally but repeat point 2 to be sure.
Also, what is importiant, ALWAYS have turned on debug mode in your usb settings, first thing you should do after flashing CM, turn on debug mode.
===================================================================================================================================================
When you are switching from CM to stock, after flashing stock you will have almost 100% chance that you will have bootloop on samsung logo. You have to factory reset before first boot. So, after flashing stock, when odin will proceed reboot your phone, unplug phone and take off battery (take off battery cover before flashing, but be careful not to drop battery while flashing via odin, it would be really really bad for your phone, hold phone and battery all the time). After inserting battery back and assemble cover, go to recovery and do factory reset.

I had this problem. Reflash CWM. Then "turn on phone into download mode and don't accept terms, when phone will reboot quick hold recovery combination and release when samsung logo appear. Do Factory reset in recovery"
Thanx man it worked. Several attemps in 2 days.

Thank you for this ! The decline download mode agrements , press recovery combination trick worked , I managed to get to recovery ! I flashed stock rom 3 times and tried repartition with pit ...but this is the only thing that worked ! Thank you
Now I have a Idea about a Un-brick:
1. If you want to return (after a Forget a clean data/cache/dalvik) When You can downgrade with .md5 Stock ROM (or Custom)
2. If Recovery Doesn't works... You can only Download Mode (Volume Down + Home + Power) - Remember it's that's not with SIM/SD Card [Maybe that's optional if it forget but I will be recommend.]
3. Flash to Newest "ClockWorldMod"
4. After Restart - That's must be take off battery and Connect USB Cable to SGMII
5. Let's Turn On Recovery Mode with a "Samsung Logo" Before Input Battery [With a Battery it's doesn't does it Start,on Fortunately...]
6. And... Let's to clean data/cache/dalvik... And that's All of "Open source Unbrick"
What Did a get:
+ Downgrade ROM without a Additonal Box (Because that's Open source with a Easy-Root and Not Close-Source as a Self of Old Sony Ericsson Tuning - But I Like a Old Sony Ericsson's Too ... And "Sony" looks from a 2007 about a Modifications and Sony is not a blocked for Android - Fortunately... And for a Today Some users remembers about a Big Seasons Tunings from K310i or K550i [I had a Two phones... That's nice what I discovered about a ROM's Modifications... And Let's praise for Sony that's Not blocked for Androids... Thank you,Sony. ]
+ That's can be again to Upgrade eg. Cyanogenmod
And... A knowledge... Hope that's share a help.
might want to consider adding this
Hi OP, you might want to add this to your thread..
so, early this week, i faced a bad bootloop situation after the software update.. Even with a normal boot (no vol+,home button and power button pressing), my phone will still be stucked at CWM recovery..
Note that my phone was working fine, only the software update caused my phone to stuck in the CWM bootloop..
So, what i did was, i updated my CWM 4.0.8.2 [ my bad, cause when i rooting my phone initially last few weeks, and i've been reading outdated threads].. So, i updated my CWM 4.0.8.2 to CWM 6.x through CWM recovery..
Then, after it rebooted, i go to download mode, connect my phone through ODIN and flashed stock rom.
Now, it is working fine like new..

Unable to boot Download mode G920T

Hey,
I have been reading around, but this is my first thread, and I'm looking for some help.
I got a G920T, and I was trying to get a custom rom installed, got twrp working, but after running xtresolite, twisted and VN-ROM installers (yes, i checked to download the ones for my model) and factory wiping had no luck, phone was just stuck at "powered by samsung" screen. So I decided trying to go back to stock, but ODIN gave me only fails.
Tried: AOCG, COF6 and EPD1 getting failed on writing from ODIN, then I realized i couln't get into twrp anymore, so I tried to get to download mode BUT then I couldn't get to it, just got to the green custom os warning screen and pressing any button doesn't get me anywhere, from there I can only turn phone off.
Tried to emergency recover with Smart Switch, but since it doesn't get to Download mode, it's not recognizing phone, and neither does Odin.
So:
-vol down+home+power=green screen/turn off
-No Download mode
Any ideas? I found another guy somewhere asking for same issue, but he got no answers.
Thanks in advance!!
Power off phone first don't restart and try it
Download mode usually always exists even with software screw ups
Power down first then hold volume down +home button then power button keep holding till screen comes up then chose volume up to continue to download mode .
IT takes like a few seconds to get it to power to download mode sometimes between 2-6seconds in my experience
For Odin try newest version and just reflash the idle kernel 3.0.2.0 twrp for s6 6.0.1
Very important you unchecked auto reboot in Odin before you flash twrp again .
You have to manually reboot after it flashes
Then you should be able to swipe to allow modifications then either restore rom backup or sideload a rom.
You can also recover your phone I'f you mount USB otg in twrp and down load a rom to it on the flash drive just a idea
If you wanna go to stock Download uvu3epd1 from Samsung site

Hey,
Thanks a lot for your answer androidddaaron!
It came to the point it went off and it wasn't charging when connected. No powered by samsung message, no download mode, nothing, so, in my desperation i placed the phone over a qi charger i use for my nexus7, after about 30-40 minutes, i grabbed it, it was very hot, and not even powering on (just grey battery not moving), so i decided to go deeper, took advantage of the heat to remove back cover and began to strip it apart.
I bridged the power on/off contacts directly on the board, and what was my surprise, powered by samsung message. So i got to figure out the combination for vol- contact on the board (3 contacts for volume: gnd, vol+ and vol-). Turns out i could get this time through and got to download mode . I'm waiting right now for software download to complete, it will probably take a couple hours, since i'm only getting 1.8Mb/s.
Before starting software download with Smart Switch (Odin not working here), i made tests for buttons, they seem to be closing circuit as expected with tester, BUT, when attached to board, i'm not getting the correct behavior, so i'm thinking i might have a faulty vol- or something, right now, working directly on board (no back cover, no aluminium), no buttons, bridging contacts as needed.
I'll wait for smart switch to finish and hopefully getting phone to work. I'll report after that. :fingers-crossed:
Umm.. I don't know what your saying sounds like you tore apart your phone.
The button combo works as I mentioned how to.
Flash the right twrp.. as mentioned with the procedures .
Then USB otg flash a rom
OR try odin flash stock
Best of luck

SM-T510 BOOT LOOP issue

Hey guys,
So I'm having issues trying to fix my Samsung Tab A 10.1 ( SM-T510 ).
At first I was trying to install a custom TWRP recovery image, and I had a boot loop where it kept getting stuck at the SAMSUNG splash screen(not the initial samsung boot screen that shows TAB A 10.1). I however overcame that issue by factory reseting and through some additional tinkering.
Now the part I'm starting to regret.
I tried once again to flash the custom TWRP to the tablet, but this time I forgot to tick the "autoreboot" setting off.
So ODIN shows a PASS for the flash, but now when the tablet boots its stuck in the following boot sequence:
START:
Initial Samsung boot screen asking to press power button to continue due to unknown boot image source etc
PRESS POWER
SAME INITIAL SAMSUNG BOOT SCREEN minus the power button prompt, lasts for about 3-5 seconds
REBOOT
Now I have managed to get into download mode with the tablet connected to a computer.
I CANNOT get into recovery mode to factory reset the tablet, which was the solution the last go around.
I am starting to think that the only way I am going to get the tablet back in original working order, or any working order for that matter is to:
A: LOCATE original firmware for my device, I believe it is GTAXLWIFI firmware for my device. However the files I have found don't seem to be accepted in ODIN...
B: Try to continue on with the TWRP process, which I have tried to reflash the TWRP recovery that I have, and it shows pass. But, the issue persists.
Any suggestions or help would be amazing!
Thanks!
Timing is the key
Set your finger on position where you gonna restart the device.
Hold power + vol down
After the screen restart switch soon as possible you finger to set to recovery by
Hold vol up + down + insert the USB C cable
Remember timing is the key. I have done this for several tabs that screw on my home so you are welcome bro

I think "restarts" may be confusing. Switch from down to up as soon as the screen turns off.

You can use frija.exe to get the latest stock firmware. To get TWRP you MUST boot to recovery before system. If you allow the tablet to boot to system first, it will overwrite TWRP with the stock recovery. Do this by pressing vol down and power till the screen turns off. As soon as it does, switch from vol down to up while still pressing power and keep holding both till the red warning message appears. You also need to leave the cable attached to the PC while doing this.

bricked?

I was trying to go back to stock after having Lineage installed but it crapped out during the install. The tablet is now stuck on the SAMSUNG logo screen and it seems impossible to do anything to get around it. The only button combo options that work are power+vol down which reboots and power+vol down +home which puts it into download mode. I've tried reloading the stock firmware and twrp using Odin but it always results in the same, the tablet reboots then goes to the standard android update screen, says it's doing an update and then reboots and it's back to the SAMSUNG screen. Nothing I do gets me into recovery and while Odin connects I can't get ADB etc to.
Any suggestions other than throw it in a drawer and forget about it?
TIA
Ok I got further. I left the tablet for the battery to die, then fully charged it, plugged into the PC and then started with the recovery key combo and bingo got the No Command screen then the standard recovery options. Deleted the cache and did a factory delete/reset and it's alive again.

Question sm-x200 boot loop

Hi All,
I"m reasonably experienced custom flasher but I appear to have stuffed up pretty badly this time. I was attempting to flash a 13 GSI rom and the tablet is in a boot loop. Holding the power button by itself doesn't power it off. The power button with either or both of volume up or down doesn't achieve anything. Any ideas please on how to break the loop?
I solved it so here it is if anyone else falls into the same trap.
I held down volume up & down at the same time and then plugged in the usb cable after the Samsung logo disappeared. I had to try a few times and then I had a landing screen. I then clicked on volume up and the tablet went into download mode. However flashing didn't work both in Odin & Heimdall with no meaningful message. I then noticed o the landing screen on the right side there was "dev_unsupported" and there was an option to long press volume up. This took me to another download screen without the "dev_unsupported". I tried flashing an oem with twrp built in and it failed at recovery.img with a message about not digitally signed. I then download the oem rom and it worked.
Thanks! That was very helpful.
Are you running the new Android 12 firmware (BVI6) on your Tab A8?
