slow charging reason - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Guides, News, & Discussio

many of you have faced the slow charging of asus zenfone max pro m1....THIS IS DUE TO NEW UPDATE 327....the solution is
1)charge your phone in flight mode
2)turn off data if you dont want to use flight mode
3)dont use mobile while charging
4)during game play remove your cover and play as the heat does not no out when using covers
5)use battery saver mode while charging (reduces graphics and background running apps)
6)dont let the mobile charge go below 20

I used to get long charging times while using phone with a charger plugged in. Plus, using an extension usb cable didn't help. Last week, I put my phone down, plugged the standard USB cable that came in the box and voila, my phone gets 75% in about 2 hrs.
The 'removing the cover' bit helps generally since it helps better heat management.

Because if cover is worn the heat won't go out and battery gets damage

My unit immediately upgraded to 327 after I bought it and put the sim. So by the time I got home the ampere app reads around 700mah only when charging it with stock cable and adapter.
I tried different cable and adapter. I found that if I use a better cable (aukey cable) the amp will go up to 1800 mah.
It's either the cable isn't working 100% brand new, or that 327 updates fault.

The in-box cable works fine for me and gets me 1650-1850 mA most of the time.

Okay I noticed this issue recently. It takes me about 3 hours to charge from 20 to 100 whereas it took around 2-2:30 hours before. I'll try the solution posted by OP but I wish to know if anyone has info on whether this issue will be resolved anytime soon (maybe on the future updates?)

Galaxy Note charging very slowly

Hi, I've been using a note for about a month and a half now, and all has been well.
Until about two weeks ago, when my phone started charging very slowly via USB. Using a 2.1amp charger, it takes about 4-6 hours to charge, and about 7-8 hours using a 1.1amp USB charger. The less said about 0.5 amp chargers the better!
However, when I'm charging using a 1.1amp charger (Standard USB output), often when at 15 or less percent of the battery, if I still use the phone while plugged in, it actually drains power faster than the USB port can provide it! It will often shut itself down and give me a "extreme low battery" screen, meaning I can't turn it back on until it has some charge in it... which can take up to 20 minutes via the same USB port/wall adaptor
Running stock 2.3.6, unrooted.
You could have a faulty or dirty micro-usb port or a faulty battery.

I have the same problem. My Note is new and I don't think the battery is faulty
With stock ICS in comparison to GB, it consumes more juice thus takes longer time recharging.
This is normal, but sad.
Sent from my GT-N7000
Same here
I have the exactly same problem and ended up here, while searching on google if there are othere with similar observations. I can as well comfirm that during playing certain games the phone looses charger faster than it can be recharged.
Beside that my phone overally looses battery much faster than it used to be.
I found out that you can recharge the phone considerably faster when it is completely turned off.
[edit:] The problem started after the update to Android 4.0.
Now I have no way out but to root my SGN running stock ICS that allows me to do more customization.
I am using SetCPU to limit CPU clock at 1200 MHz (from 1400 max). Only certain apps really requiring CPU power, I specifically allow them to run at max MHz.
This helps reducing recharging time a lot...a lot (even much faster than charging when on GB) and allows more time in outdoor uses. And there is no lag.
Sent from my GT-N7000
I've found the total opposite, I find charging in ICS (Stock not a custom as I've not tried one) to be loads faster at charging than in Gingerbread.
What programs do you have constantly running? The more that's running, the more juice it's gonna use and therefore the slower the charging will be.
How long does it take to charge with the phone off?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Same problem with charging as well.I an using ics 4.0.3 cpw version and it draws more than it gets from the usb charger.
I also experienced slow charging before.
What I do is to close all the applications and see if that works.
Same thing happened wid me... Its Kernel fault.. Try changing kernel.. It will help
Noted by the BEAST!!
Look for runaway tasks consuming high CPU and maxing out the CPU clock rate. You can use a CPU monitor like System Panel Lite, and also simply feel the phone at the rear near the camera. If it is hot you have a problem of some process going nuts.
This is a classic problem I've faced on ICS and I've given up with it and gone back to GB. No problems since.

Just to clarify, a standard USB port on a pc/laptop can only provide 500mA not 1.1amp. Not sure where you got this value from. Therefore it will not provide anywhere near the required current, especially if you are actively using the phone. Most cheapo car chargers are also innadequate at 500mA. The standard sumsung wall charger only provides 1000mA.
What 2.1Amp charger are you using? Its not recommended to use more than the standard samsung charger outputs !
You need 1000 mA (1 A) charger for proper recharge even on GB.

1A is the standard Samsung charger.
So is it okay to force the note to use the 1 A ? standard it is set on 700mA
You can adjust the charging control with Voltage Control
I too started having this problem yesterday after updating to a recent version of Visual Voicemail Plus. Even charging from the wall outlet could barely keep up. Turns out the problem was VVMP continually polling NON-STOP for voicemail. Reverted back to older version and problem ceased immediately.
My point....your problem might be software and not hardware. I'm still on rooted and overclocked GB with franco.kernel.

I'm using non-data cable to charge via usb port, it's way faster. Only cons is that u won't be able to transfer any data.

I have been using HTC & Samsung wall chargers, Belkin 1A in car. All chargers provide fast recharge. However, the quality & length of USB cables are crucial.

Just to clarify things, the 2.1amp charger is a USB battery pack, and the 1.1 amp charger is a USB wall adaptor. I'm running 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD, unrooted.
There are two charging rates, slow via the USB data cable, and faster via the charger (where the D- and D+ pins of the USB are shorted). If it thinks that you are using a computer USB when you are in fact using a charger, your charging will be at the lower rate.
I had this problem of slow charging and the cause was a dirty connector, get some electronic connection cleaner from an electronics store and spray the USB connection and cables - that fixed my slow charging problem.

I'll give that a try, thanks

[Q] charging issues, charges extremely long, stops charging randomly

Hey I was wondering if something is wrong with my device.
I am encountering weird things regarding recharging the device in reliability charging up.
So i am using the original charger which came with the phone, the phone is just like 3 month old i didnt notice anything like that earlier.
So when i am charging the device, sometimes it stops charging, Today I encountered it charging to like 56% and afterwards no more charging so when i got up, my phone was 14% left even when plugged in.
I encountered it several times recently that it stuck recharging at around 50-ish or 70-ish %.
charging usually takes up reasonably long. About 10% an hour. In Settings -> Battery it sometimes it displays USB even when it's charging via AC.
I am not running any fancy apps which drain the phone or clock cpu.
I am running 4.1.2 I9305XXBLL3 Rooted.
Anyone have any suggestion?

Samsung charger that come with the box really charge slow because it only supplies 1Amp.
But for your case seems different. Before checking the software side... have you checked if it's the charger or the cable itself has the problem? Try using other charger.
do you think a nexus 7 charger works fine w/o doing any (more) damage?
Many times it's because of dust and dirt collecting inside usb port. Clean it with compressed air or small brush and try again.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
i am aware that dirt might be the problem, but i've took my torch and put some light into the dark usb port to see if there's any dirt but everything looked quite clean to me. I don't have compressed air with me atm do you think a manual air blower used to clean dslr sensors can also do the job?
any other suggestions if the charger and usb port ( dirty ) is not the case?
Use toothbrush and tiny bit of alcohol ( can be after shave) on it to clean port. Do it when phone it's switched off. It's worth to try.
Did you try different charger?? This can be main problem. Many faulty chargers this days.....

Check the output voltage if same, a bit higher ampere would be fine just not too high, and not voltage.

Samsung charger provides 1000mah because that's the stock charging setting for the SGS3. You'd only need a different charger, like a N7 one if you change the settings to above 1000mah.
OP use current widget to see what current your phone is charging at. It should be 999mah from the wall charger, then you can change chargers and see whether it's the charger or your phone with the problem.

i just bought an extra battery.lets see how it goes.
i noticed my old battery had a small bump in the middle seems bloated. hmm
i remembered last time i used xperia s charger trice,it has 1.5kA it realy charge fast. i think that caused the problem?
when my sister charge her xperia s, the charger just explode.. and she scolded me why am i using her charger.
im using my old charger which is 700ma but it charge just fine. lately when i use the xperia s charger and went back to my old one,it was acting strange. it charges really slow and if i use the phone,it depletes even when charging.
im going to flash another rom,and see if its rom related or the battery isue.
thanks for replying.
ok,im on with my new battery but still depletes while im using it. im just browsing. on the widget it say im currently charging with 1000ma. wierd, dont know how to solve this.
[SYMPTOMS I HAD] it would charge very slowly, if the screen is on, it would actually discharge. When the phone was off, it would slowly charge (i.e. >5 hours to full charge). and it would discharge very quickly (i.e. 1% per 2~3 mins). When the phone was off, it would charge sometimes and sometimes not. Figured that when the phone was off, you really are negating much of the software influences so this could be a hardware issue, however, wanted to make sure before going down the hardware route.
Did some research, searched the forums and searched some more.
I had tried 5 different chargers, 3 different USB cables and had bought a replacement battery.
Steps taken:
1. Cleaned with thick paper - no change
2. Cleaned with thick paper & rubbing alcohol - no change
3. Cleared with Compressed gas - no change (on first charge, there was a change but then back to normal)
4. Attempted to clean with vacuum (with finer nozzle) - no change
5. Used charging apps from playstore - didn't show charging details - considered the port was faulty
6. Tried to find default references for charging as mentioned in one of the forums - unable to find it
7. Found a replacement USB port charger board and replaced it - working fine
So it could be the actual port is faulty. If you symptoms match, it could be time to take it into the service centre, restoring to stock first of course. The note I am using had slow charging for about 2 months prior to really slow charging.
i had change the usb port and its back to normal. 2hrs at least and its full.
Fingers crossed, thats all you need.

Veryyy slow charging

Went to a music festival over the weekend and used a portable charger to charge my phone, this is the last time I remember my phone fully charging. Once it died and I got back home, my phone would occasionally say USB connected and not charge until it said USB disconnected. Now it doesn't say that anymore but it charges ridiculously slow...
-Overnight charging I got 40%
-Left my phone for 3 hours and got 11%
-Use my phone while it's plugging into the charger and the battery still lowers rather than charging.
I've tried putting it in Ultra power saving mode and charging it while it's off but there is no big difference, I'm mad cause this cable is supposed to be charging it super fast.. Writing this post while my phone is plugged in I've already lost 2%

Are you sure? Cords die easily. Can you confirm how many amps the cord and the plug are allowing to be pulled? I've seen different phones pull different amps from different cords and plugs.
You can un-root and get back to a clean phone if you want to take it back.

check the power brick your using, if its the Samsung one that came with the phone it should be like 2 amps if I remember. id suggest using another power brick to test. also if you have a usb 3 super speed port on a pc or laptop sometimes you can use device manager in windows (start menu, right click computer, manage, in the window that opens click device manager, expand the universal serial bus controllers heading, check though any devices that say hub and go to their power tab) to see how many amps something is pulling from a pc usb. the other option is that you might have a defective battery but I don't know for sure. these are just some ideas that may or may not work for you.

Sounds like the portable charger might have been able to adjust amperage or voltage. If that's the case the portable charger could have damaged your battery if it was wrong amp and too high of amps. I have a portable charger that even changes voltage that could ruin a device too if not on 5 volts.

It sounds like it could be a battery problem. More likely, it could be a problem with the software. I would back everything up and flash another ROM or bring it back to full stock.
Option 1:
Install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw
It will tell you batter voltage and charging current.
Options 2:
Charge with phone powered off.
Thank you everyone for the replies, my phones been getting worse to the point where it sometimes wont charge.
I think what im going to do is flash back to stock and bring it in to samsung or something , but also i heard a rumor that towelroot doesnt void the knox warranty? if this is true i may just bring it in as is...only becuase when i connect my phone my laptop wont read it anymore either, i havent tried if odin will but im assuming it would, i just dont want my phone to end up bricking because of the bad connection
This sounds like an old problem with Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S series. My original Galaxy S did this, my S3 did this, my sister's S3 did this. On those phones it was the charging port that caused the problem. My sister had her port replaced and her phone is working fine again.
Although I don't know for sure if that's your problem, that would be my first guess.

[Q] Charging Issues - Is 300-400mA input normal for Z1 stock changer?

For some reason (since lollipop cm12 nightly 20150121, currently on DStrikerz 4.7 stock-based ROM) my phone takes a while to recognised that the charger is plugged in ( an average of 1-2, sometimes not at all, sometimes longer and/or sometimes it randomly stop charging in the middle of charging).
This is what I have done:
I have done a clean flash by going to CM11 (not CM12) back to Dstriker ROM thinking some residual code may have stayed from Lollipop CM12 (cause it had slow charging issues, reported by many), but issue still persists.
I have tried different Power Bricks. I get 700-850mA from iPad charger with 2.4A (2400mA) output with stock cable. I get 200-300mA on a brick with 400mA output.
I have yet to fully verify this but I have had no problems with the other bricks (still need time)
(End of What I have done)
Now my question is that:
Is the lower mA normal when charging?
Do I have issues with my charging port (had charging port issues on previous phone which is Sammy GS2) or is it the brick and/or cable?
How long does it take for your phone battery percentage to go up 1% on average (mine is 1.5 - 5min average) ?
Any other software solutions you can suggest? (Optional)
Can you post a screenshot of the mA of your battery while charging so I can compare? (Optional)
Look at the screenshot at the bottom.

Because sometimes the kernel gets moody and all that, i had these problems on my xperia u, and i then used to power off and then leave it on charging for some time

That's for the reply I just found the problem. It was the plug. My friend connected it to his GS3 for 1 hour and it only charged 3%. I've tried other charging plugs with stock cable as well for the past night and didn't have any problem. So I might have to replace or fix the plug myself.
test again try to start charge when the battery is at 20% and see if it still 300-400 mah so u may have to get a new cable or to get new charger also maybe the plug
the charging from 90 to 100 is usualy slow comparing from start to 90
test and tell

Interesting. I pushed the USB connection on the plug upwards (seen attachment) and it started charging properly at 700-900mA until 90% where it was 300-400mA, compared to the 300-500mA no matter what battery % I had left.
Charging was much quicker.
I remember doing the same on the GS2 charging port and phone charged properly.
I guess its something to do with no reenforcement at the top of the port. Both S2 micro USB port and Z1 USB charger plug port have no reenforcement at top. Think this is a design flaw.

Maybe, but my mobile also get fully charge in about 2 hrs max, and when i once checked this app about current, it was showing around 400-500mA at about 48%, although the mobile didnt take time to charge, maybe at that instance the current was that?
