Note 8 Device Counter! - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Lets start a counter in this forum and let devs know about popularity of this device so we can get good AOSP rom etc as fast as possible!

+1 for me and another +1 for my cousin who's not in xda

Really pointless thread. If you've followed any of the other AOSP request threads, you'll know that it's a very complicated and involved task. Amassing "+1" posts isn't going to motivate anyone more to take on such a task.
On a more personal note, I don't know why someone would buy a device like the Note 8 just to strip it of all of its features. Personally, I bought my device because of all the features Samsung has put on it. I wouldn't put AOSP on this, likely even if someone paid me, because it would defeat the purpose of having this device in the first place.

If you think that way you shouldn't be on XDA then, development is main thing we discuss here. Giving support to Dev in any way concerned will help them!

We all have different opinions and preferences, so I think we all belong here. Of course support for devs is always welcome, but a +1 thread may not be the most effective way to go about getting what you want...They can already see the view count on aosp-related threads after all. Maybe try reaching out directly instead.

Well, devs, I think, try to develop roms to attain a better experience, adding some features, taking out some not very popular ones, in general to make the overall performance better, as Max Terrible here stated, buying a note series device to strip it down of ALL the features that make it what it is, in my opinion, is pointless, to that effect, you should get a pixel device, clean pure android out of the box

Do explain to me how having a thread full of people posting +1 to try and convince a dev to make an AOSP ROM, is considered supporting the dev?
I definitely support the devs and the great work they do on here, but recruiting a mob to basically create a petition for someone to do something you want, is not what I define as support.
I assure you, any and all devs working on the Note 8 are aware of the very, very small group of people that want an AOSP ROM.

There would be lot of people who dont upgrade mobile regularly (may be 6 months) some upgrade after 2 years. And u might be knowing samsung way of updates so aosp rom etc is very help to have a taste of latest updates. I know only note special things wont be working but many extra things u will get in these roms. Till now we are not able to use gcams! This shows development for this rom. Intent of this thread was to see popularity of this device and let dev see the demand:laugh:

Thanks for +1 people! Lets go guys!!

I just got my Nexus 5, and I'm a little disappointed...

Not about the hardware- that's nothing short of exceptional to me. What I'm wondering is, why are all the new Kitkat based custom roms so stripped-down? I know it's new, and I'm also not a developer but I can appreciate the hard work that goes into making them. On all my devices I've been able to count on roms like CyanogenMod and others to add the subtle tweaks that I feel should have come from the factory. CM 10.2 was a killer ROM and had all the features I needed. I've tried some of these new KK roms and theyre either too much, or too vanilla. All the OP's say they're starting clean. I'm sure someone will tell me "Learn how to build your own if you don't like it" but does anyone know if/when the devs plan to start incorporating features back? I hope no one takes offense to this, as that is not my intention. I'm just trying to understand why this happened. Was it like this when ICS and JB came out?
I agree with you...
Just ask google for a refund
Sent from **Nexus 5 sucks**
I think streamlined is the term you are searching for. I've been using Android for quite some time now and lightweight is what I prefer. Plus, it's inevitable to have a little more functionality with custom ROMs.
Not trying to offend, but it sounds to me like you haven't been around Android for very long if you weren't around for the ICS to JB update. So with that, I'm glad you're on board. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your amazing phone that has a pure Android experience.
Keep flashing and I'm certain you'll find the perfect fit for you.

When they feel like it, or install the xposed framework and some of its modules.
"Why this happened?" Probably because the phone has been available for barely over a month. Nothing "happened." I've never seen so much development on a new phone in such a short period of time. Jeez.
Just wait...
Inviato dal mio Nexus 5 utilizzando Tapatalk
All devs on all devices start by making the base as stable as possible first. Only THEN do the features get added in.
Remember, this is a Nexus device. It is the first device to receive kitkat. It takes time for devs to build features back in to a new base. They don't just "slot in". They need to be amended, debugged and sometimes completely re-written
You're an early adoptor of the nexus. ALL brand new devices takes time to develop for. But imagine you buy the next HTC device released in 6 months time with kitkat... cm devs have been working with kitkat sources for 7 or 8 months by that time. The features will almost just "slot in" but on a brand new base, it takes a lot of time. Im not sure you really do appreciate the hard work involved
Its also worth noting, cm's feature set is identical across all kitkat builds on all devices. Its only the device tree that varies

The phone and 4.4 are brand new. Slim and CM are developing their Roms. Patience is virtue.

To everyone who wrote a useful, non-sarcastic response, thank you. You answered my questions. To the jerks, I have one word. Karma.
I am on the stock rom and I have nearly all the features and tweaks that custom roms have.
Just install xposed framework and gravitybox module and you should be alright. You can download more modules depending on your needs.

Try Slim rom, they have a good amount of added features now.

The CM features are coming, don't worry! Then AOKP will be up, and then AOSPA, then you won't know what to do with yourself! It just takes a bit for the developers to redo features for the brand new version of Android. We've been a bit spoiled in that the transition from the Jellybean 4.x.x updates weren't terribly hard to push code up for, but KitKat has a lot more going on under the hood.
Edit: and if you recall how CM6 and CM7 looked, the streamlined look also makes for a MUCH easier UI, vs the clutter that kinda existed in the froyo and GB days.

You have to understand that the devs here aren't getting paid for what they do. They have jobs and lives outside of Android development, and they do this in their spare time for free. For you to pop in and start a thread in the forums for a brand-new phone basically saying "hey guys, why aren't you developing more" comes off as kind of rude. You're new here so I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but you have to understand that some patience is required with a brand-new phone and a brand-new version of Android. I'm amazed at the amount of development that we already have, to be honest.
All you need is Xposed and Gravity Box. I'm running stock rooted with those two, and I got my Rom exactly how I like it.

Can you please point me to where I said they should do something faster? Because frankly, I'm not seeing it. In fact, I specificially said that I appreciate the hard work that goes into them. All I was asking, was to be educated on why all the roms were starting clean. It seems some people understood this, and offered relevant responses while others simply flamed. It's no wonder that people get a bad taste of these forums with the way they get treated, when they simply asked a question and even carefully worded it so as not to be offensive or greedy.
When we went from ICS to JB, it wasn't like this. Devs didn't 'start fresh' like this. So clearly something DID happen, i.e. a change of some kind, that led them to do what they are doing. And all I wanted was to be educated on what that was! Not once did I say that these hard working people with lives who do this for FREE should do it FASTER. But people, who are possibly only semi-literate, immediately assume that someone is saying what they are clearly NOT saying. Is it boredom that leads people to jump on someone in a forum for no reason? Either say something constructive and don't be a warmonger, or move on.

THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!! THANK YOU!! What a simple answer, that was not negative in any way, that told me what I was looking for. Thank you for not being insulting, and just telling me that it was easier to do JB updates than KK. So like I said, something was different about KK that made it more difficult to code for. Thank you for keeping in the spirit of constructively helping others.

Note Edge vs. Note 4 ROMS/development

So I've had the Edge for a while now and just got the lollipop update. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my device, but I am a root/flash freak and I really enjoy all the hard work that is given by the developers to help our devices be that much more cutting edge. I told myself I wouldn't root my device at least until after the lollipop update, then I would look into customizing my device. However the issue is there is LITTLE TO NO development for the edge.. Coming from a long history of galaxy devices this is something I'm not used to experiencing.. I have been waiting patiently for it to pick up but nothing seems to be moving..
I've said all that to say/ask this.. Is there much difference in the development for the note 4 vs the note edge, are there any custom ROMs that are compatible with both devices? If so what are they? Any themes that are compatible with both devices? Any developers willing to offer a little development here and there? Any way I can help with that? I mean I know this is asking alot. And I'm not trying to come off as a douche, don't need the "smart alek" responses as I am being sincere here.... Sorry I hope I'm not breaking any OP rules either.. HEELLLPPPP... Lol, naw but frfr..?????

There is a difference in the sense that you will always have SOMETHING to flash. We have AOSP builds where developers are updating every other day. We have a stock base rom by Tekk and he literally update about twice a week. Now that lollipop is here, we are waiting on developers to update or they are in the process of perfecting their roms to where Kitkat was. Development is up and running...as far as coming out with new features and what not, not so much. I will suggest you look around...be our guest, a sip here and a spoon full there while examining the change-logs and comments

I hear the op's frustration - I feel it too and yes patience is required. We don't have a large amount of Dev's available and they have lives. This is all done for free. If you prefer more active development, I'd suggest a Nexus device next round which is the route I may take due to locked bootloaders and such

Were lucky to have the devs we have at all, we gotta remember as badass as our phone still is... it's already a 2 year old phone and devs among other people switch phones all the time.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Devs switching phones is a big problem with older devices for sure. I'm not sure how many devs stuck it out waiting for the official MM to drop honestly.
I myself was all psyched for the note 7 since my note 4 is almost paid for now, but with a locked bootloader and no root I may to look elsewhere for my next device.
Check the section again and Overdrive just posted stock rom with mods available for it. And it's not that easy to start making roms when you get a software.
Here is the link.

Unless that was some bone dry sarcasm, you answered your own question (bold text in your quote). For the sake of clarification, the talented, generous devs who have immeasurably improved our Note 4 experience owe you nothing. You've paid money, likely a great deal of it, to Samsung/T-mobile and it took them 10 months to deliver an update. What have you contributed to the developers who use their own free time to work extremely hard and freely share the fruits of their labor (which puts the aforementioned profit-driven entities to shame) that entitles you to expect a custom fine-tuned ROM within "a few days"?
If you want to run MM the stock ROM is finally ready and waiting. You can even do so with root access and customize it to the extent of your ability... again thanks to the most valuable members of this community who receive little if anything more than our appreciation and respect in return.
There will be custom TW MM ROMs when and if developers are ready to take time out of their busy lives to create and release them. Whenever that happens to be, the members who participate and contribute what they can to this community will be extremely appreciative. Thankfully the group here is a friendly and helpful bunch. This subforum would be a ghost town if more shared the entitled attitude in this insulting joke of a topic. Waiting 10 months after release for a $$ "flagship" to be updated to the current OS by a company who wants you to continue paying them money is something to be upset about. Waiting... however long for a generous developer to rip that update apart and fine-tune it into something that they're willing to share with a (mostly...) supportive community is not.
I feel people took the OP a little too serious. I've been camping the forums for custom MM Roms since MM was released. Lucky the Note 4 is still popular and Samsung locking devices and making crappy changes has made a lot of Note 4 users not upgrade.

Perhaps because you and the OP are still unfamiliar with the culture here on xda and the hard work and complete selflessness exhibited by developers in practically donating hours upon hours of their time.
To try and catch you up: you don't ask for eta's, you don't display any form of entitlement, and you don't complain development (Basically just be respectful). Camp forums all you want but don't waste forum space unless you have a legitimate question, comment, or contribution.
Furthermore, anyone that eager for development should never buy anything other than nexus. And even in nexus forum, the above guidelines should still be followed.

most of them will say works with 910t specifically, but in my testing if found that over 90% of the N910F
ROMS works on the 910T and if they dont work they just need the data fix patch ......
as far as kernels just make sure that the kernel is 910f compatible and match the android version correcttly
EXAMPLE:
v5.1.1 with v5.1.1
v6.0 with v6.0
v6.0.1 with v6.0.1
NOT v6.0 with v6.0.1 (this may or may not work, if it does't youll have to reflash the rom or odin back to stock)

Anyone know where or when one might get cm

As a flashaholic XD ,I would like to say on behalf of the Note 5 community that we the users would like to see a stable build of cyanogenmod for all variants
Maybe a few devs could work together instead of competing for the best debloated or tweaked stock rom
I know for certain that the devs will gain a lot of respect and it would be better than any Note 7 port

Well unfortunately mate the rom will never return to xda again some trolls got on our nerves rilq and suzook or something couldn't be bother to check
But the good news we didn't stop development and we were not going to stop even after what happened we have been building the rom for our personal use and decided to share it here
Technically when we decided to leave we didn't lose anything. It is a little unfortunate that the people of xda are the ones who winded up in the mix because of those trolls but none of us wanted to deal with the them

But first, we need to organize users who would be able and willing to donate. Once enough people are there and we can figure out on total if the amount offered is sufficient enough, we can start contacting dev's. After we have a dev ready to help, then start pooling in money and purchase the set and send ot to the dev.

After we have a dev ready to help, then start pooling in money and purchase the set and send ot to the dev.

just a heads up. according to XDA rules. donation threads have to be created by the developer itself who is interested in the device development. he has to green lit such a thread with an XDA admin. if it gets created by forum users it gets closed pretty soon as it is against the rules.
so first step would be finding an recognized developer willing to spend his free time on the device.

two options comes to mind.
A: look into devs that were or still are maintaining Samsung (Snapdragon based) phones and might be interested in the A70.
B: look into devs that maintain a device that has the same SoC (or SoC family) as those devs will have less than half as much work (it does depend on how far the kernel deviated from code aurora code) to maintain a second device if they have already established the knowledge on the primary device.
E.T.A. Unknown..

The Operative Phrase Here Is: "Still Maintaining Samsung (Snapdragon Based) Phones".
In the U.S... Samsung Snapdragon devices have their bootloaders locked down.. ( Per Carrier's Request ) so you have Zero ROM Development..
IMO.. you have to love this device for what it brings to the table stock ( Widvine L1, Themes, AR Emoji, UI, Gaming etc ) just in case nothing Custom sprouts..
