The expectation from one plus 5 was high, when it was being released. It seems that one plus is not putting any innovative ideas in their UI or overall system experience. They should at least put some new ideas to their user experience. Please vote and let them know...
think you're being a little harsh mate, there are a lot of qualities which add up to an experience that you don't get from any other device.
Speed: The fastest phone there is, bar none.
Audio: Loudest phone i've ever had, couple that with viper audio and it's even louder
Battery: Best battery i've ever had on any phone including the note 4 which was supposed to be superb.
Screen: Jelly effect aside (i don't get this problem) 1+ going for a 1080p screen is the way it should be, a 2k screen on a 5 inch device? What is the point.
Build: Strong casing covering the phone and a non bendy screen
Software: For the first time ever, I've actually contemplated not rooting my device (it's rooted now btw ) Reason being is you can theme and change things which you can't on other devices.
Camera: Ok this one is a bit of a sore subject, I actually rate the camera, i've took some superb shots with it.
Charging: phenomenally quick charging, bested by none. (Thanks @3DSammy )
Overall when you put this together you get a package which very few can compete with

Not everyone agrees with you. When you speak of user experience, do you mean something like TouchWiz? No thanks. As close to stock as possible is what people in this forum prefer.

The only thing I'd add to your list is the phenomenal Dash charging. Just today or yesterday XDA posted a comparison of various brand's charging technologies and the OnePlus Dash charging came out on top. When I bought the OP5 and first charged it that was the very first thing that WOWed me. I definitely agree with the rest of your list. Maybe add the OnePlus companies cooperative attitude to developers with a TWRP recovery available by the end of the very first weekend after release. Its my Nexus series replacement. As times gone by (I ordered the OP5 two hours after the streamed announcement), OOS with multiple OTA releases and its general almost stock experience has reinforced my confidence in this purchase.
OP5 to me is the Nexus that I've missed.... It's speedy and utilitarian... The pixel didn't appeal to me and I think maybe alot of the og Nexus fans too....
If you don't like Nexus, I'm guessing you won't like OP....
Couldn't disagree more with the OP. This is the best phone I've ever owned. And the UI is basically vanilla android but with see very useful additions. The kind of additions I used to flash custom ROMs to get.
I was a successful customer of one plus 3 and 3T... I loved these 2 very much as these were best of their time.... Except dual camera setup which is still not as stable as it should be and Dash charger, I do not see big differences in from previous ones...
Undoubtedly it is good phone but not the best of his time... So many bugs still present in software.... No beta update for one plus 5.... No latest security patches... Even my op3 has latest security patch as compared to my one plus 5..
You do realize it is a small company and they kinda have to update 3 phones now. This takes a bit o time. Besides, they probably invest most of their resources on the Oreo update now.
Do you really think Samsung offers better updates?
As for the differences between last year's model and this year's model - there never is a big differences between those. Generally speaking. They are more like incremental upgrades.
Let's take the S7 and S8. The biggest difference is the screen and that's pretty much it.
In my opinion, one should always skip one phone generation to get the best results. If you had the 3T, there was no reason to get the 5 now. It's better to wait for the 6 as that may be a better upgrade. Same applies to Samsung, LG, HTC and everything else.

Please compare this to another phone and put the the other ahead!! What phone out ever has no problems? The fact that your 3 is still getting updates in a timely manner is a good thing.
The reason why we got a OnePlus is partly because we prefer as close as possible AOSP experience with a few value added enhancements
If you're into UI and stuff, you're definitely looking the wrong phone and should consider what Samsung or Xiaomi has to offer instead

Damn people, they want stupid gadget but dont want to pay for it.
For many people, the op5 is perfect because it's simple, still have capacitive button ( which make the android signature imo), simple = the parts will be cheap on ebay, and we dont pay for stupid random gadget.
NO! REMOVING 3.5mm jack is NOT innovation.
Why spend $$$ to get a fcking edge screen that will cost 500$ to replace ?
IP67 , when 95% of people wont get close to water with their phone, and 99% of them never drop their phone in water anyway.
op5 is innovative in a way that they give you high spec with minimal parts. Imho, this make a durable phone (5-6 years easy), and as we can notice, the earth need a break of overconsuming rightnow.
Coming from a Pixel XL, the design of this phone is much better; feels much nicer in the hand and isn't as heavy.
There is tons more development available for this device compared to the XL, and for a company that is so young, they are doing an amazing job.
Yeah, the camera didn't live up to the hype, but it's not a horrible camera by any means.
I am getting the same user experience as my Pixel XL, and even better than the XL in some areas as well - all for significantly less than what I paid for the XL.
That being said, I definitely don't think it's reasonable to say there is no innovation, despite the 5 looking similar to an iPhone. The iPhone's design isn't bad at all in my opinion, so that carries over to the 5.
All in all, I'm really loving this phone and I do not regret selling my XL to get this I am open minded and will see how the Pixel 2 is though, but just in terms of development, I don't know if I'd switch back.

Honestly can't see the pixel 2 having anything ground breaking that would make me want to move over.
The camera will be great but OS and performance, stamina and build will be very similar.
Tbh I can see the 1+5 beating it in terms of speed.
Guess we'll see.
Plus if the pixel goes for a 2k screen then you'll see how much of a benefit a 1080p screen gives you in regards to performance and battery longevity.

i always viewed oneplus devices as extremely minimal. I know, you know and oneplus knows that if you want an innovative UI you can download it from the play store. Think of the thing as a modular phone on the software side. I like the thing because it works really well and charges nice and fast doesnt slow down and remembers every app right where i was unless the app itself has a background refresh built in. Its a good phone and should be treated as such.
sure, it's innovative! you get to choose between Wifi AND cellular data. the screen protectors lay perfectly flat on the screen, which is also flat. this phone is small! it fits perfectly in all kinds of pockets. the screen lights up in the dark so you can see it at night. you can install multiple applications without removing the old ones. on top of all that - wireless discharging!

After learning that Oneplus were making the decision to announce and then launcher the (ok it's a nice phone) Oneplus 5T after just 5 months? I've never heard of that happen to a flagship which wasn't a complete failure and had as much going for it as the 5 does?
The Oneplus has pretty much disappeared from all locations where it was available, which means there can't be that many new devices out in the wild anymore if any at all, do you think if kept in decent condition that it could be something of a collectors item in the months / years to come? Maybe going a bit far with the collectors item thing but you know what i mean, like a niche piece of kit that you can't get hold of no more.
Just a thought, because unless people had the money or an upgrade in that time frame, it just wasn't going to be available and now it's gone?
Compared to the 3 and 3T the 5 and 5T are in a unique situation it's a slightly different form factor the finger print is on the front and it retains the capacitive non on screen buttons batterly life is every so slightly better than the 5T.
Everything else is the same so true I can definitely see a few anti 2:1 bezeless phone users prefer the one plus 5 form factor. Although i probably wouldn't go as far as to call it a collector's item. The main blemish on the OnePlus 5 is the jelly phone screen thing aside from that i can see a manufacturer offer both models and both selling reasonably well. With jelly phone screen i think it might skew to the newer phone, it doesn't bother me personally but I know there are people that see the affect all the time and that could get irritating. I on the other hand either don't see it or just got used to it.

Cellphones dont work like that. Even the legendary device of the HD2 only goes down in price.Phones are not something to collect as unlike others things they are already outdated by the time we get our hands on them.

They did the same thing with the 3 and the 3t. If any were gonna be collectable it will be the stars wars version or the other limited versions of the device and even then the price will still go down.
As for caliber of device. It is still a mid range device really. Nothing too special.

Point I'm making is, the release time was so small, now it's not being made no more, it's not even close to a year.
Any idea how many units were actually made?
A limited edition Zippo only has 250,000 made sometimes less, no how many they sold / made but it's definitely a niche phone now.

Then you have to keep in mind that OnePlus is an "unknown" brand. See all the reviews on specialist websites, all say it's so great but look around you, it's Samsung and Apple, cause people don't read that.
And if we think that OP phones are special for developpement community, also take a look at how people around us don't even change the default wallpaper that their phone had when they turned it on first time

Maybe we base out caliber of device on something completely different, I personally go by performance and stamina, along with a few other things.
The Oneplus is not mid range, the Snapdragon 600 series devices are mid range, the Oneplus is 100% high tier, price no but performance and hardware yes.

I agree, I'll not be getting the 6, it's HTC for me all day long from now on, unless something groundbreaking comes out, couldn't go for Sammy again, they're dead to me, their OS is just nasty now, doesn't even feel like android no more.
I know what you mean with their release timing, but I think they've overshot it here surely, 5 months? That's insane, and for a device which is over the mid range bracket at £507 with shipping? That's not cheap to only be told that in 5 months it can't be bought no more?
I dunno, I had a thought and thought I'd put it out there, collectors item no ok that was a bit far but definitely a niche product (popularity aside)

Yeah.
And to add to those thoughts, one might buy let's say a Samsung Note 8. It cost twice the price of the OP 5T, but you get the top of your brand of choice for a year. If you try to do that with One Plus phones, that will cost you more than that over the same period.
And your Samsung will probably still have a great resell value...
I like OP phones, but to me, they are really doing a terrible thing to their fans here.

Yes mid range. Price means nothing where I am. It's all about the hardware for me a day one plus is always missing g a few things to put them in the top tier.

lol ok so HTC who always make a flag ship device which is always has been comparable in price to Samsung ( I'm assuming that's what you're comparing it to) HTC usually misses a few features out, LG again top tier, again missing things not in others, can't see your point mate.
I know what you're getting at but I disagree wholeheartedly.
The oneplus is anything but a mid range device and in many ways it's superior to flagships like the S8
more ram
more internal memory
faster CPU and better utilisation of said chipset, better use of battery and stamina than the S8 /S8+
dual cameras
fastest charging on the market
Where is the oneplus falling short?
SD slot? water proofing ? stereo speakers ? None of those features makes a high end device.
All of the other OEMs are missing the same things, not to mention that Oneplus listens a lot more than the other OEMs.

it won't but the screen will evolve, the back of the phone had always been by majority unutilised, either way you can be sure that it'll never stay the same, things evolve or people get bored and even if we didn't, companies believe in evolving and ever changing so it'll happen in some way shape or form, hopefully for the better and not just for change.

As described in the title.
I'm failing to find a replacement for my N6..
Pixels are way above the budget.
OnePlus feels like it but lacks stereo speakers, but looks like good enough as camera (ois) and OS (updates,cleaner).
Moto g6 is mid ranger - good value for money, lacks OIS and stereo. Plus OS updates will be long delayed if I compare it with ny wife's G5S Moto.
Nokia 7+ looked promising as design, Android One program, battery. Budget wise - exactly to the point. However missing stereo speakers. And camera looks like disappointment to reviewers due to lack of OIS.
Any thoughts ?
My brother has the Nokia 7+. And I own a Nexus 6. As for comparison, I can say that 7+ is an OKAY upgrade. But sure, N6's speakers are better. 7+ speaker is not bad tho. But trust me, you'll miss the amoled display. 7+ cameras are awesome, don't listen to reviewers. Install gcam and viola, pixel quality shots on N7+.
We have the same situation tho. For now, I consider the Xiaomi Mi8 SE and refurbished Pixel XL.
As I wait for a worthy replacement, I am maximizing the life out of my N6. Recently changed the battery, flashed custom ROM & kernel. And man, I never thought this device will still hold its own like it does. Maybe keep this phone until the end of this year. I think we still have to wait for more SD710 phones to come out. But that's just me. Cheers!

I'm on AOSiP 8.1 with Popcorn Kernel v1.4 and it's working very great. Still observing for best battery life tho.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm very hyped for the budget Pixel phone with SD710. I think that's the phone for me.. and I feel it. :laugh:

No financing options where you are? I ask because financing through Google is how I got my P2XL.
My N6 though is still seeing use. My roommate preferred it over the Moto X Style (XT1575) I got for her, simply because the screen was larger as well as Android 8.x custom ROMs. That's saying something when an older device is preferred over a newer one, but I digress. I wouldn't go with any of the options you give in your post title however. None of them have quad HD screens and apparently they don't have stereo speakers either. Instead, I'd look into used devices such as on Swappa and get one from there.

I would go with LineageOS if I was not security freak and doubting about installing Google Apps aside from a site.
OpenGApps.org is a reputable site and has been the "go to" option for years. However, several developers on XDA also have downloadable GApps packages available. I'd hunt for them if you don't trust OpenGApps.org, and then upgrade your N6. Nitrogen is a good choice, better than LineageOS I feel.
Imagine if they revived shamu with 18:9 aspect ratio, fingerprint sensor, usb type c, upgraded camera & SoC, same awesome front firing speakerS. Heck yeah, that's my dream phone!

And I also mean the curved back design of shamu.
None of which were on your list. Now, obviously people's mileage will vary here, but wireless charging is something I never used, and as for the headphone jack? I was just like you in thinking I would die without a headphone jack. And then I grew up.

Thinking about this too. OP5T is still available in my country, 3rd party tho. Will wait for 5T price drops when OP6 arrives here.
I admit that I'd like to see Google buck trends like Samsung, but I don't see it happening. Since there are so few choices out there for decent devices with unlockable bootloaders you will at some point have to decide what you would prefer to give up, whether it be a display without a notch, a headphone jack, or wireless charging.
I can live without the headphone jack, but I also have bluetooth headphones. If I couldn't, I'd be using the USB audio adapter Google provided in the box.

And that is where mileage will vary. I never used wireless charging and don't care if the device has it.
It's too bad Google wants to be like/become Apple. First with the OS now the notch...What's next? Google needs to move away from trying to be Apple before people start to move away from Android. If they haven't started to move away already. I'm also having a hard time finding a worthy phone to replace the Nexus 6...But so far I'm happy staying with it for awhile.

I think that they dont care about optimizing the protection because it would cost money.

I don't worry about it, since I use hands free or BT 99.99% of the time.
Plus, some of those SAR graphs are a bit out of line with reality.

Not too worries. Very small amount if those readings are accurate and there are a hundred of things that could kill me at any moment when I step out of the house.

Sure, there are iPhones in the list but not flagship models. Interesting that there are no Samsung phones listed and also interesting to see the Pixel 3 making an appearance.
Basically the list is full of cheap a$$ hardware.
It may not be a deal breaker but if there are 2 equivalent phones and one has a lower radiation level I will choose it and I think it speaks to the overall quality of the product.

Agree with that, i don't care much about radiation level but seeing it's all the low quality phone that are on the top of the list and mostly samsung phone on the very end, i think it says a lot.
this is weird by the way because i live in poor signal reception area and all the xiaomi, oneplus i had had all a lot of difficulty to connect to the network, when on the other hand most of the samsung i had managed to works much better.

I was recently in a poor signal area in Bali, I had my OP6T and the person I was with had a Note 8, both had the same simcards in them and my OP6T struggled to get any reception whereas the Note 8 was consistently better, still poor but better and at least it was usable usable.
Disappointing really, if we are going to be irradiated we should at least get kiss ass reception.

agree, that's why i found it to be weird.
Chinese using cheap ass antenna, it's legit because we all know they got to cut cost one way or another but then why does it irradiate more ?
i wish there were samsung quality phone with oneplus rom on that, would be perfect device

I was ready to jump ship from my note 9 and after a lot of thought felt I could regret it. Just my opinion but just wanted to list some of the short comings for people that are getting sucked into the hype of this new product that could help prevent buyers remorse. For others these things may not matter. But seeing that this broke 1000 dollar mark in Canada, im going to get a little more critical.

I ended up ordering the nebula blue 256 gb but I agree with wht u said bruh. Missing some flagship strength.

The hardware to implement 5G is still too expensive and cumbersome to a cellphone's design. Unless you live in a major US city, you're probably not going to see 5G before it's ready to replace your phone anyways

Again, early technology with very low adoption rates thus far. 802.11ax requires more antennas, so more than likely also running into phone design problems

I've only seen 1 reviewer get as low as 4 hours of SOT. Everyone else seems to be getting 7-8 hours of SOT even with the 90Hz refresh rate

Heavier metal components would just put more wear on the motor. It'll be inside the phone 99% of the time, and it retracts if it detects the phone is in freefall, so I don't see a big issue with its durability

Legit complaint. I see the aspect ratio as benefiting readers more than movie watchers, so it's a personal preference.

Qi charging has invited bad practices to take hold. You get longer battery shelf life if you run down the battery before charging vs. it charging all the time, and everyone knows that people do with Qi charging. Heat is the enemy of any battery

Not a huge picture-taking guy, so I'll take your word for it
Well what can i say... Coming from samsung
It's extremely big - too big for me - and has a gross, Galaxy S7 style curved screen. Other than that, it's fine. No wireless charging and no IP rating are also bad, but less severe as far as issues go.
My only complaint is lack of SD card and weak battery life with 90hx. Still ordered ?
I don't know if I will buy it or not, but the major flaws for me are:
No AOD
No IP67 certification (not because of water, but because of dust - might be no problem but who knows)
Battery life (really fast at charging on the other hand, so not really important to me)
Camera right now is much worse than the P30 pro for the same price, might get better with gcam etc.
Well and all of these are better on the P30 pro. But that has the biggest of all flaws:
Locked Bootloader, no root, no bootloader unlock codes from Huawei.
A P30 pro with an SD855 and an unlocked bootloader would be perfect for me.

They've already made the 7 Pro 5G in cooperation with EE in UK (who expect to have rolled out the technology by the end of this year) and Elisa in Finland (who've already started setup of its 5G network but won't be available to customers until next year)
No word on pricing for the 7 Pro 5G, though.
For me this dumb of price, what a flagship killer.
1st.. 5G isn't even a thing yet and won't be for almost 2 years. The 5G they are pushing is a compression algorithm on top of 4G backbone. Unless you're planning to keep this phone more then 2 years, worrying about 5G is pointless. They are herding you like sheep.
2nd... IP Rating means nothing. If water damaged the phone they still don't fix it. I'd rather what OnePlus is doing and do their own waterproofing and save the money on the IP certification.
3rd... AOD. You know these are AMOLED panels right? They get burn in... No thanks personally. I turned it on on my OP6 ABUT I don't even use it. This is really just personal choice.
4th... Battery. Only 1 review I saw said 4 hours of SOT MKBHD but he had like 5 or 6 social media accounts going at once... Not a true indicator. I've seen more then a couple say they're getting 5-8 hours SOT. I'll wait to judge for myself but think it will be just fine.
And last... Wireless charging. Why does anyone care when it's slow as hell? Warp charging is so so fast wireless is really pointless, unless you have a damaged USB-C port
I'd rather save $300-$500 and have the screen, speed, storage, storage speed (UFS 3.0), the fastest charging then the IP Rating, wireless charging, 5G that you can't use right now

For me there is not much that I miss. The headphone jack maybe but I use 95 % of the time bluetooth headphones already now. its big yes, 6 inches would be probably enough but I think I can live also with the current display. Qi charging maybe a bit, but just because I would like to try it because I never had a phone which was capable of it. But with the fast charge of oneplus it is a bit useless. I would rather leave my phone 20 plug to the fast charger than 1 hour on a pad

Actually its not. This could answer questions people may have about this new device in one nice summary. There has been confusion if it came with 5g and WiFi 6 since the snapdragon 855 is supposed to support it, for example.. This helps them make a more informed decision. That being said if I had to buy a phone today it would still be this one.

No it doesn't. It ALLOWS for more antennas (up to 8 instead of up to 4). Even the Intel AX200 adapter for laptops is still using just 2 which are tuned to the same bands that have been used in Wi-Fi since 802.11a and 802.11b. 802.11ax still supports single antenna even.

I got the 12/256gb :victory:
The biggest turn off for me is the curved screen, otherwise it's the best phone of the year so far. Tired of everyone copying Samsung and Apple design gimmicks. Give me top hardware, comfortable and straightforward design, no gimmicks.
Yeah there are two posts already talking about all the whining about battery drain and wireless charging.
paying less for a good quality phone is a big plus
It's crazy that there were reviews on this and everyone complaining like they were shocked about this.
