I'm thinking about rooting my moto one power but i want to stick to the stock rom for various reasons.
Although, I'd like to have xposed and a few more tools which require a custom recovery.
How to fully unroot my device for the update taken that twrp can't flash stock rom updates, or how to get and install ota updates after having root? Will data loss be a factor?
Please guide me.

You're wrong, if you use twrp and magisk OTA's will fail
Boot into TWRP and flash Magisk. In this way you will retain your original recovery and also be able to flash magisk.
I did this with my Nexus device 3 years ago (I used SupeSU) and was getting OTA updates each time. The only problem was that I was losing root every time I would get an OTA update.
I don't know how Magisk works but if it works the same way as SuperSU did in this case, then you will be able to update your device via OTA.
You may try this if you want to, as I don't know whether this method still works or not.
fastboot boot <twrp-recovery-name>.img This will boot your device into TWRP recovery without replacing original recovery.
Then just flash Magisk and reboot your device. You will have your stock recovery intact.

Magisk reflashes itself after OTA updates of Lineage thus going by that, the device should lose root access once an OTA is flashed. Thats just a theory though!

I have the same question, I want to root my device to install viper and I want to get OTAs as well, but to flash the TWRP we need to unlock the boot loader if there is any way to flash TWRP without unlocking the boot loader I am very much grateful to you or could you please tell me how to root moto one power and still get the OTA, please provide links also.

Yes you can. I did it that way. Got phone, updated it, unlocked boot loader through Motorola, fastboot flashed TWRP, then auto rooted via TWRP. Normally I manually root/flash superSU zip, but this time I decided to try the TWRP auto root method.
Ok, here's the rundown - I have a VZW Moto X (XT1096). I previously ran mofo on it had flashed the 5.1 img files to it and so had 5.1 rooted, but with a locked bootloader. After learning that JCase had gotten sunshine to work on it I unlocked my boot loader. I then decided that because I was worried about having the a kind of mish-mash of systems on it, i.e., 5.0 bootloader (unlocked) with hacked and modded 5.1 system files flashed from mofo, that I wanted to start fresh. I then used the XT1096 flash to stock script and flashed back to 5.0 (there were a bunch of problems and bootloops and force closes, but I am happy to report I am now on a fully stock 5.0 with unlocked BL). Following being stock I have tried to take the OTA but have been unable to do so. When I try it OTA on my device it just sits at 0%. When I tried using MDM it gave me an error message that it failed to install the update - on the device it said getjar: unlocked.
So, now that I am on 5.0 with an unlocked bootloader I am not sure how to proceed with my priorities, Root, WiFi tethering and upgrading to 5.1. My questions are this:
(1) How can I upgrade to 5.1 or does my bootloader unlock preclude that?
(2) How best can I achieve root?
(3) Once I am rooted what do I need to do in order to enable wifi tethering?

It seems like whatever you did to install your phone back to 5.0 it wasn't a clean install or you didn't do a clean data wipe to remove errors, which caused it to not able to receive OTA. I do not believe unlocking bootloader preclude you from receiving OTAs because it worked for me.
1. What you should try to do is download this stock 5.0 firmware package, run the bat file with the latest adb/fastboot, then boot into recovery after that and do a data/cache wipe just to make sure. Then boot in the phone and try to do the OTA again.
2. To get root, I use TWRP recovery to flash SuperSU. This is the standard way in fact.
Download SuperSU.zip and put it in the phone: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Get the latest TWRP image here for the Moto X 2014: https://dl.twrp.me/victara/
Flash the recovery using the command: fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.x.x.x-victara.img

3. I don't have experience with Verizon network. I use T-Mobile on this Verizon device and I just enable WiFi Hotspot. In the APN settings, in the "APN type" field, I add the value "dun". And set everything to IPv4.

Thank you for the reply - got the update to take and have gotten the device rooted properly.
Now I just need to enable wifi tether - anyone know what is done in the Mofo images that allows it - can i do the same here?
I am interested in this question as well. I am in the exact same boat as the OP, except I am still on a Mofo 5.1 img that is giving me issues. I'd like to flash back to stock and take the OTA. But wifi tether will be a must.

I tried this but after I flash TWRP I can't boot to recovery. If I choose recovery from the bootloader it just turns off the phone (charging icon). If I send it adb reboot recovery I get error android "No Command."
Flashed it multiple times, tried mfastboot, no luck. Any ideas?
Edit: I feel dumb. I was using power button to try to select, it's volume up. Good to go.

The other method (the one I used) was to install the Xtether xposed module for the 2013 Moto X - worked perfectly for me.
I feel like a complete noob for asking this in regards to my XT1096, but, how would I get rid of the unlocked bootloader warning message?

My N6 is rooted, SuperSU and TWRP. On build LYZ28J and want to update to LYZ28K.
It seems I have 3 ways to do this:
1. Use settings in SuperSU to fully unroot, AND flash the LYZ28J recovery.img to replace TWRP. Then I can take the OTA. After that I can rerun the Chainfire Autoroot script and flash TWRP. So i'm updated with no data loss.
2. Flash the factory image. No need to unroot or remove TWRP, but all data is lost. And I still need to reroot and reflash TWRP. Correct ?
3. sideload the ota zip. Just run adb sideload <ota.zip> . No need to unroot . My problem here is that the only place I found with the ota zip is on Droid Life, not a google url. I like Droid Life, read it all the time, but still... Does anyone have a google url link to the OTA ?
Is there another method?
How are others upgrading? Is #3 as easy as I described ?

1. no. to fully unroot, you need to flash a factory image. if you just remove root, itll still think tour rooted because system files have changed. so, wont work.
2. you can, but why? you gave extra time that you want to burn?

4. just flash the system.img of a factory image ehen it vomes out, and you will not lose data, but will upgrade.
I've used this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/using-image-to-update-nexus-6-data-loss-t3053158) to update within Lollipop through several versions. It is always best to wipe data when going from one version to the next (Lollipop to Marshmallow) but as long as you are staying within Lollipop this should work fine.

IMO, easiest way. DL zips to internal storage, wipe, and flash. READ the "Read Me" in the first post. When you update it will get rid of SU. Once you boot with update the first time, you can go back and root with TWRP.
Chose to use this. Did not flash the new recovery image. Updated fine, BUT locked and no root, no TWRP. I'll need to run oem unlock again, wiping all the data.
Sigh.
Wrote too soon. SuperSU and TWRP were gone (even though I did not flash recovery.img). Developer Options was gone. So I needed run CF-Autoroot and still need to flash TWRP. But all apps and data remained.
This is great news, especially if we're going to get monthly updates.
Just had a problem after using root toolkit to attempt root on nexus 6 with marshmellow. (6.0 ), build MRA58R. After this attempt, got the message that" device is corrupted" and would not boot into system. Luckily bootloader was still unlocked and was able to flash stock image. Phone boots fine now with Boatloader unlcocked, and TWRP is gone, with no root. How do I root from here and install TWRP again without going through what happened before.
In the beginners guide to root, Chanifire's link hasn't been working and I want to be sure I do this right to avoid what happened with the toolkit. Also, my phone is setup with apps and data, and I dont't want to loose my setup.

rooting marshmallow..
1. unlock the bootloader(yours is there already)
2. fastboot flash twrp recovery.
3. flash the latest supersu in twrp recovery
4. flash a custom marshmallow kernel, any. this ones new for marshmallow, and is needed.
5. boot up.

how did you manage to flash stock again after corrupt. mine wont recognize adb while corrupt. please give step by step

You don't flash with adb, but with fastboot.

If I have a P9 on Nougat B391, I receive an OTA, am currently rooted on Magisk v14. If I install the OTA anyway? What will happen? I know I will lose root, but will my bootloader be relocked? Am I going to lose any data?

there are 2 posible outcomes, maybe 3.
1. update will be successfull and you will lose root, twrp, bootloader can be locked too, but on fastboot it will shown as unlocked, if you cant instal twrp, then you need to unlock bootloader even if there is tuped unlocked.
2. update will fail and you will be back on same build you was.
3. never hapened to me, but are possible, that phone got bricked!

IMO, (2) is most possible utcome. (3) may happen if you force DLOAD and other manual methods.
Better:
1) unroot by Magisk Uninstaller, find the download link in the post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74913863&postcount=1
2) flash from TWRP original stock boot img
3) wipe Dalwik and Cache from TWRP
3) flash from fastboot original stock recovery
4) let it make OTA update but select in the System Update settings to use Full (not differential) update - it will not delete your apps and settings
Of course, you will loose root and TWRP but bootloader will remain unlocked and you will not risk bricking the phone.

Magisk Uninstaller does not wipe your phone.
However, unlocking or relocking Bootloader (from Fastboot) triggers Factory restore
