Run Time - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

My phone has been on (has not turned off or restarted) in 80+ days. Nothing much else to share. Still working great! The only issue I have noticed is that my battery is dying a lot faster than before. May be related to not restarting, but I'm not sure.

What about during OTA updates?

Hey! That is the downfall. I had not received an OTA update since I flashed to a UK version (for the fingerprint scanner).
I ended up restarting the phone after 100 days. Phone did a great job. Also, I recently flashed another custom firmware so that I could acquire the September 2018 update. The battery life on this phone is incredible (after the September update).

Fiirst BSOD after 893 upgrade

Well I had a BSOD (a freeze to a black screen that could only be fixed by a bettery pull) a couple of days after my update to version 893. I ws hoping the upgrade would fix this. Has anyone else also had a BSOD after the 893 update?
--
I've been on .893 since the leaks were first discovered and I've had zero BSOD issues.
i have been running 5.7.893 (newer than the current OTA) for more than a month now and still experience an occasional BSOD, the frequency is reduced, but they still occur

Same here - no BSODs, and none of the other errors that others are experiencing.
in fact, the only problem with my BIONIC is self inflicted - I tried to force it back to stock (just to see if eFuse would trip) and now on boot I get a flash failed message, and can only boot the phone via the bootloader. But, other than that, All is well.
I installed the leak version. The only thing it made better on my bionic was the camera. Still having BSOD, and random 3g data drops.
Unfortunately, I gave in an bought the Razr. It seems alot smoother and faster. Just more fluid. Screen is better.
I installed the official OTA last night. I never got a BSOD before the update and I haven't gotten any since the update so far either.
Sad. Have had 3G drop out completely twice in one day since the update. Guess it's time to start hammering verizon for a different phone. Certainly not going to wait for the next update after how long this one took.
I never had the BSOD before the update, but just had it today after update. Completely stock before and after.
Depending on where you are located. A cold phone could be a problem. My friend's Iphone began BSOD when he would leave it in his car in 20(f) degree temps.
I have had BSOD several times but am now running 5.7.893 and think it's related to some kind of app interaction. About 3 weeks ago I did a factory reset, rooted and have been gradually putting apps back on for three weeks no BSOD. Just some thoughts.
I am stock and received the 55893 update. I expected it to fix the things it claimed to fix but it appears it has not. I still lose 4g often. More often than before. Sometimes it switches to 3g and sometimes I lose all connectivity. Before, it only would only switch to 3g and stay there. I also am getting reboots more often now. And by correcting that so-called high pitched whine, I have found that the audio volume for music has significantly decreased. Also, when charging the phone while off, the battery no longer reads accurately. It tells me the phone is at 20% and less than10 minutes later it is fully charged. WTH Motorola?

Same boat. The phone won't wake up from sleep probably twice a day, and I'm forced to pull the battery. PITA.

It could have been a bad update. I would do a manual update. Make sure to back up as it will completely wipe the device. Internal storage and all. With the new update that really is the only option that has caused no issues at all.
And before someone says well whats the point of an OTA? There isnt one and no one that knows does it manually and doesnt go near an OTA.
Alright. Thanks... I'll try that and see what happens.

Anyone know what it's for?
Well, it's from September 2, so who knows
Small update, only 47MB.
Text before update only mentioned security updates - nothing about Samsung Cloud or the Gallery app update that was delivered in Europe. Once it finishes updating and optimizing apps, I can see whether anything changed besides moving to a more recent security patch level.
I only noticed Google's monthly security fixes here. I didn't see or notice any other changes.
@evilvoice @stoobie-doo @mixxxk what's the build no.? Is it not N930PVPU2APHE update?

build number , for me, is MMB29M.G935AUCS4AP12
@mixxxk thanks!
The ATT's page also mentions it.. September patch and that's it.
Would have been nice if they had removed or allowed us to remove Milk Music, since, well, the service is dead as of 9/22...
Still rootable?

It increments the BL to version 4.
I'm not sure if it was the update or not and I haven't installed anything else, but today the android system is EATING my battery. I had been getting around 7hrs of sot but today it's less then 2hrs sot and at 5%. It's showing android system had used like 24 or 25% of my battery and it is at number one for battery consumption.
I'm also suffering from a very hot slow phone that's eating the battery. What's going on???
Anyone have an Odin of this update?
Came here to say I'm having terrible battery life as well since the update. Weird thing is, I updated a couple days ago and the battery issues started today. I also have these disabled the settings from the link below fwiw

I am too in need of the September Odin files. Tried to downgrade back to July firmware files through Odin after OTA and got the "fused binary" error because of the new bootloader update. Now my EFS partition is damaged and I'm getting wifi password forgets and stability issues among other things.
These days, AT&T is more of an evil empire than Verizon. No WiFi Calling, no VoLTE, no enhanced features unless you use AT&T branded phones. No publishing ROM/firmware files. Locked bootloaders (Samsung is also responsible, I know). AT&T has become the least mod friendly carrier. If anyone gets the PI1 files, please do share.
Also wanted to mention, DO NOT TRY TO RE FLASH ANY PREVIOUS FIRMWARE FILES WITH ODIN after this OTA update. Not only will the update fail, but it may corrupt certain partitions like it has on mine. I am also suspecting the U firmware will no longer flash with the new bootloader update until files are released for that bootloader. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I will try to do an "emergency software revovery" with smart switch later tonight, if anyone is interested in the results let me know.
Glad I flashed international firmware... no oculus bs here! And my android system is back to normal, around 12%.

Phone gets sluggish over time after 8.1 update

Hello guys.
I own an xt1800, and pretty happy with it.
It came out of the box with Android 7.1, and got updated to 8.1 via ota sometida months ago.
What I'm noticing is that the phone gets sluggish after 100+ hours of be powered on, this did not happen in 7.1
If I restart the phone everything goes back to normal, so it's something related to the os.
What do I mean by sluggish? For example if you open chrome, it can be unresponsive for some seconds and then comes to life. If you are loading a webpage and scrolling, it can freeze for a few seconds and then continue working...
This is not exclusive of chrome, other apps suffer from this as well (such as Gboard)
Many security patches had been applied since the 8.1 upgrade, but none of them fixed the issue.
The upgrade was done via OTA.
Have you experienced something like this?
I used to have a Moto X 1st Gen, and the stock/original firmware (4.2.2) was the best version of the phone. It got updated to 4.4, 4.4.4 and 5.1 but they all had some issues the 4.2.2 didn't.
I'm wondering if you are not supposed to upgrade a Motorola phone, since I'm experiencing something like that with this phone as well.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Question Pixel 5A February Update

Have anyone experience problems after February update?
After update battery drain extremely fast in both ways standby and while in use.
Also i lost network all the time, got overheating and also bottom speakers doesn't work.
I wrote with google support and they want me to send them phone to repair, that mean that phone is damaged with sofware how i understand.
There's a few things you can try.
Back up your data and see if a factory reset works.
Try sideloading the OTA. I doubt this will help much.
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can try a complete clean flash with the Android Flash Tool.
Thanks for answer.I already try to worh factory reset but it's the same.I didn't unlock bootloader.I buyed this phone week ago.I dont know will i lose warranty if i flash something and unlock bootloader? Also can i downgrade to january update?

Did you turned off 5g? That can help sometimes.
I took the February update and haven't had any problems. The battery life on this phone is just stunning. I don't play games or do things that are particularly energy consuming, but still I think 5-6 days of charge is very impressive. For my use I would be happier with a smaller battery in a smaller phone as I have no need for that battery life.

Agreed. Have no issues with the battery here. I've been reading about Pixel 6 have bad battery problems, but this 5a has been rocking and rolling.
Well i return the phone because of speakers not working and losing service constantly.
Now i received same model from another seller and i tap to install february update.I hope it will work well.
I have Japan version,maybe that's problem,which one you guys have,maybe US?
I have a US version. The version shouldn't affect the speakers - I suspect it was defective. There are just too many things that can affect service to know what is happening with that. If you have any doubts I would check which bands your carrier is using (Wikipedia is a good source) and which bands are supported on the 5a (see https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=6504 ). Even in the US not all carriers are well supported - T-Mobile is the best. It does not appear that there are different versions (as far as supported bands) of the 5a for the US and Japan. Which country and carrier are you using?
But how can speakers work normaly and after update they not working anymore?I notice that because all calls and other notification go through bottom speakers and after update i didn't have sound when someone calling me or i receive messages per Whatsapp or Email.
I live in Germany and i use O2 carrier, with the bands is fine. Now work good.
But there is now another problem, green tint,i just don't have luck with this device.
I updated to the February update and it was fine until it wasn't. The EDL bug is back. It killed my phone last night when I opened the camera app.
