Working substratum themes? - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

I recently rooted my Mi A2 and I really wanted to try out some substratum themes, but most of them don't seem to work. Are there any good and compatible themes?

I read that you need to install additional apps on store called Andromeda (its paid apps) so substratums can work on Mi A2

ohh okay, thanks for the info

Hi Mate, had the same problem last week after I rooted my Mi A2, I tried so many themes but most weren't great. Anyway, through A Swift theme I came across this which works perfectly for me. Swift Installer is a fully customisable theming engine which also themes more apps than most with granular control over colours, transparency & accents etc. It's still in beta but it's the only thing that's worked for me so far. Here's a Playstore link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftinstaller

Its easy) install subst theme, apply, reboot.
Go substratum agin /Layers manager /sellect all/ Press button "Layers" ,press "Apply select"

Substratum theming issue

Hi. Has someone got Substratum Theme Engine to work on PRA-LX1? I tried to apply overlays , they get compiled properly, but theyre not being applied if i use Layers Manager i can theme for ex. Supersu
Can i get some help? I tried Substratum community on G+, but got no useful information...
I built overlays on my mothers note 4, transfered over the Overlays folder and pushed it into /system/vendor/, all seem to work, apps are themed correctly Now only left is to figure out how to make substratum install overlays directly from the app, without need to use note 4 :/
Does it only theme the apps?

What else does it have to theme? XD I use Swift black for user apps and DarkBloom for Emui apps. We use substratum legacy, so no way to get custom fonts or bootanimations through substratum

Substratum - Andromeda on XZ1

Just a heads up for anyone looking to darken things up on their XZ1...
I have the XZ1 Compact. I think this will most likely work on the XZ1 as well. I decided to make myself a guinea pig for the Substratum theming engine with the Andromeda plugin. The bright white menus were driving me crazy. It worked!
Here are the steps I took:
1. Install Substratum engine/app on phone
2. Purchased and installed Andromeda app on phone
3. Installed Swift Black theme (noted as compatible with Android 8.0.0)
4. Downloaded and unzipped the Andromeda client batch folder to my PC
5. Enabled ADB debugging on phone
6. Set the connection to "Transfer files" on phone
7. Ran the batch file on my PC
8. Batch file automatically runs Substratum in Andromeda mode on phone
9. Selected Swift Black theme
10. Selected "Android 8 - Nexus and Pixel" in dropdown menu
11. Applied all available overlays in Swift Black theme
12. Rebooted phone
UPDATE: Notifications on lockscreen remain white and are hard to read. Phone app will not theme.
themes wont apply to settings menu. Ive tried 3 different themes and settings is still white

Substratum Themes not Working

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to apply substratum themes on my P20 Pro but with no luck.
I already installed Substratum and Andromeda apps on my phone, connected Andromeda using my Mac and installed the overlays I want. After I restart, the overlays appear in the Substratum Manager tab, but nothing is changed on the actual theme.
I tried to use Swift Dark theme (both for 8.1 Pixel or Nexus ROMs and Others) as well as AOSP theme by Hamzio.
Is there anything I'm missing to do?
Thanks for your help.
After reboot you need to toggle all overlays and enable them.

[Pie] - No Root - Dark Mode

Hi all,
Just updated my XZ1C to Android 9.
I had Substratum with some dark themes installed on Android 8.
I did not read any substratum notes, and just updated to android 9.
Apparently Android needs root now for custom themes to apply.
Is this really the case?
Is the only option to root, to get dark-mode back again?
I can't seem to find custom ROMS which are Pie based.
Only a beta of LineageOS for Android8.

There is Xpie, not that I am recomending it in any way. Loading it looks pretty problematic.
But if you're going to root your phone to load a custom rom, then Substratum will work fine on rooted 9

do the swift themes work with stock/sony apps e.g. dialer, settings, files, etc.? or only AOSP / custom roms?
there's a fee for the installer app, when downloading the actual themes, is there an additional charge?
thanks!

no dice on the sony apps i'm afraid, with the exception of sony music. there's a full list of supported apps here. it's pretty much all google and AOSP apps and an assortment of other stuff.
re: payment, you pay for the app once and you can configure the theme however you want. so you can rechoose background and accent colours to your heart's content. much less onerous than substratum imo.

How to apply 3rd party themes?

My main frustration with Miui is not being able to theme it myself, I don't like any of those themes in the store.
I applied for designer in their website but my theme has been waiting to be approved by them for like 3 months now.
I've tried several workarounds, like the force close method (Doesn't works for me I'm on Miui 12.0.6 Btw) and the theme editor from playstore (Works but reverts to stock after a while).
EU roms have a fix for this but there's no EU roms for this device, screw MediaTek.
I have root access via magisk and the unofficial twrp as recovery, is there anything I can do to install a theme permanently?

I just looked it up, only works for Miui 11 and is paid.
Also, even though it is restricted, I prefer Miui theme engine, it is very customizable and system wide. That's the main reason I haven't switched to Lineage Os, I've heard custom app icons only apply to launcher in Lineage Os (No custom icon in recents or settings apps tab)
Did you download the Swift Installer? Because it will support every phone after you install it will cost some money but you can download apk
MIUI themes are in MTZ format, You can either import them in theme store, or apply them through an app named "Theme editor for MIUI".
Keep in mind since there's no proper support for third party themes, they get reseted after some time and the phone returns back to stock theme.
So for now either you enjoy your theme for a few hours and it resets, or try to get it on the MIUI Theme store.
