[Question] I'm currently trying to flash a GSI rom in TWRP. - Moto E5 Questions & Answers

(the phone is E5 Pay Go Edition XT1920) TWRP only shows 2 options when trying to flash a GSI rom. It shows "Boot" and "Recovery" no "System Image" in order to flash the rom. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

MIUI 10 flashing twrp, root and rom guide required

Hello,
I'm lookig for a guide how to twrp, root and install custom rom, on my Mi5 miui 10 global stable.
I'm not newbe I did a lot of flashing on my previus phones Nexus and others. But this time I feel lost. I sit on miui 10 global stable. When I try to to flash twrp I get reroll to mi recovery every single time. All guides I found in the Internet are dedicated to older android versions. Xiaomitool don't help too.
Can someone point me to the right direction? It is time to change rom on my Mi5 finally to give him boost b4 I buy something new.
Best regards

Your bootloader is unlocked, right?
Then you need reboot to fastboot mode and flash latest official twrp via fastboot.
Like
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <path to twrp.img>
Have you tried it that way?

Bootloader is unlocked.
I did it that way but after twrp is installed I reboot and there is no twrp available. Only mi recovery.
To make it easier...
I would like to:
Flash twrp
Flash magisk and root
Flash firmware (why i need this?) Havoc os asks to flash it but I don't know why.
Flash havock os and gapps
Flash some mods for camera and sound
I don't understeand why twrp can't be flashed and I have no idea what is modified firmware for? Do I need this?
Thanks for your time
Try the the xiaomi eu rom guide .
I think you may need its custom bootloader , not the actual rom.
Than flash the firmware required for your custom rom and reboot directly to recovery again from twrp than rom and gapps , I hope that helps
Hi, i had the same problem, try this:
1. Flash twrp as usual(fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and then fastboot reboot)
2. When rebooting, you have to enter at recovery (vol up + power) . Don't allow phone to boot! In TWRP official page, on installation instructions , they say after installation you must enter in recovery to allow TWRP patch recovery rom, because some Roms after boot reinstall original recovery.
3. Now you should have TWRP installed.
If you do
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
and then do
fastboot boot twrp.img
It's simpler and it will boot to recovery and patch the ROM to be permanently installed.

First,fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
and then no reboot your phone, just to hold the key combo (vol up + power), and then you can enter the twrp mode once because the recovery will be changed when your phone has rebooted.
But you can use the only once twrp mode to install the zip .
If you just want to use MIUI 10, you will flashboot twrp everytime when you need twrp to do something.
PS: Forgive me pool English.

Thanks, this worked!

TWRP stuck in splash screen.

Hi everyone, when I install the TWRP using the flashable zip installer and then boot into TWRP it gets stuck in the TWRP logo and when I flash from fastboot it works fine, but I need to install it from flashable zip because I TWRP the I have to start with the partition slot A that also has the custom rom, I can't always change slot partitions every time I have to do operations with the TWRP.
I would also like to note that using the twrp-installer-jasmine_sprout-3.2.3.zip results in the recovery mode sitting on the TWRP logo even if it was a successful install.
I'm hoping someone can find a fix to this soon.

Do you flash the rom before the twrp zip?
I found a workaround instead of using the zip package.
1. Get the current partition you are using:
Code:
fastboot getvar current-slot
2. Choose which partition you want to install to( in this case I'm using B, but you can use A if you like ) and flash the latest TWRP IMG file:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b twrp-3.2.3-0-jasmine_sprout.img
3. Set the current partition to the one you just flashed:
Code:
fastboot set_active b
Yes but then to go to TWRP to do something I can't always use a PC and from fastboot change slots. I took so long to install Magisk.
I had to dump the boot partition, modify it with magisk manager and flash it with the TWRP, it doesn't seem like anything to dump but to me it was difficult because I don't have root at the beginning.
If I flash the TWRP in the boot partition in the resurrection remix slot, I lose the chance to start the custon rom
Fixed, after the 3000th time I flashed, then the TWRP starts up, I don't know how not to ask me why but now I try to hypothesize 2 solutions:
1) We have to stay for a while with the custom rom, then later when you will try to flash the zip, the TWRP will start.
2) You need to have both Magisk and TWRP installed in the boot in order to start the TWRP flashed from zip without problems.
These solutions do not know if they are like this or I am confusing myself, so it happened to me.
If in doubt, hoping for an update does not hurt, maybe the TWRP will start immediately with no problems in the future.

Moto e5 Plus XT-1924-7 TMOB soft-bricked flashing Magisk

I have a new-to-me Moto E5 Plus and I was trying to root it using this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e5/how-to/twrp-hannah-tested-xt1924-9-t3875406
I unlocked the bootloader with no problem (got the tiny "bad key" boot message), booted (didn't flash) TWRP, installed Magisk Manager, selected the beta update channel, and attempted to flash Magisk but got various versions of this error, “could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer”.
Formatted (not wiped) data in TWRP, wiped cache, re-flashed Magisk (no errors this time) and rebooted so I could use Magisk to patch boot.img, but it just came up to the tiny "N/A" in the upper left corner of the screen.
I was able to force it into recovery by holding down "power" and "vol down" at the same time, and flash it back to stock with Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant.
Does anybody have any tips on rooting? Every guide for the E5 Plus seems to give different instructions, particularly regarding encryption.
Thanks!
Install the recovery of this topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e5/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-x-moto-e5-plus-t3912189
Be careful to use correct recovery which in your case is the HANNAH-8.x (Oreo 32bit). Then just install the latest stable version of Magisk by twrp recovery. I installed smoothly in both the original ROM and also in Lineageos 8.1 and 9 on my Rhannah XT1924-4. Magisk works great on all ROMs.

Alcatel 1 5033D Custom Recovery

Hey, i've been looking for some time for a custom recovery, cwm or twrp for my alcatel phone and i can't seem to find one, anyone has ever seen one or something. I am having problems to update the custom rom i installed from this post and i think it might work with another recovery. Thanks
You can't Install a custom recovery on an Alcatel 1 , as it doesn't allows a user to flash recovery, even if you use the command "Flash recovery twrp.img" you'll get an error "Failed (Only System partition can be flashed"). So it's not possible to install recovery.
You can download the updated GSI and re-follow the steps in the guide.
what is the gsi?

As your bootloader is unlocked, rooting is rather simple. You don't even need to use TWRP unless you're trying to install a custom ROM.
See my guide here.
If you want to install a custom ROM, all you have to do is put the ROM package (.img or .zip) on the device's internal storage, then live boot TWRP:
Code:
fastboot boot <drag and drop TWRP image>
Wipe /system and /data, then install the ROM.
DO NOT try to install TWRP. Pixels do not have a recovery partition; recovery lives in the boot image and doesn't play nice with Magisk.
