GPS Chip Location - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Anyone know where GPS Chip is on P20 Pro?
I want to use a magnetic phone holder for car and i want to stick the metal plate faraway as possible from the GPS antenna/chip, as it may reduce the location accuracy (I.E. when using navigation ).
Thank you,

AFAIK it's in the mainboard, which is everything in line with the cameras/flash and higher.
There's a few antennas that run down behind the battery though (in the middle), so wherever you place it you're gonna screw block something. Almost certainly you'll block the NFC antenna.

I am using the car kit with magnetic holder. GPS localization works great. There is no shielding. However, the compass app does not work when the cover is on the phone.

Can Brodit car clip be used in portrait orientation?

Hello,
I am think about buying this Brodit Clip for my Ameo: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=971743&sortiment=null , however I want to use the Ameo in the portrait mode (not landscape as shown in the pictures). Does anyone have this Clip and can confirm whether that is possible or not?

Yes, it can turned to Portrait orientation. Although, the keyboard would be useless in Portrait mode. But, yes, it will work well in portrait or Landscape mode.
I love this device holder by the way. It works great.
Yes, the holder is really great, and it does work in both modes (portrait/landscape). Keep in mind however that GPS performance is really poorer when the device is in portrait mode, as the GPS antenna is facing sideways in that mode.
If you know, exactly where is the GPS antenna located? I'm having *very* poor performance from the GPS unit. It works maybe 1 time out of 20 (the other 19 give me a "Weak GPS Signal" error.
I'm using another of their clips - model 968739 - it also spins to portrait nicely. Quality is excellent, and service (through proclipusa.com) is excellent.
I also like how the mounts come in 2 parts - 1 part to connect to whatever phone/device you have, and 1 part to connect to whatever car you have.

I looked at the Athena Service Manual, and to me it looks like the GPS antenna is next to the GSM/UMTS antenna, under the top plastic cover with the "3.0 MEGA PIXELS" text written on it.
There is also an extra connector for an external GPS antenna from HTC like this one: http://www.expansys.de/p.aspx?i=151575. Of course, you can alreays connect a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Wifi antenna hack? Could this work?

A though regarding the wifi antenna inside the Kaiser.
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=812152&native_or_pdf=pdf
The Wifi and BT antenna is located at the bottom of the handset.
Do you think adding a plastic coated twist tie to increase the length of the wifi antenna? http://www.interplas.com/product_images/100/Twist-Ties-100px.jpg
since i will be replacing my housing i was thinking if this would improve wifi range.
your thought please.
I would also like to know if it is possible to connect some external wifi antenna to the kaiser? Probably it would be home made...

I wouldn't think so. Adding the twist tie would change the wavelength of the antenna and would change the tuning of it thus worsening the SWR back to the transmitter. An antenna is not so much about just adding more but it needs to be tuned properly to work effectively. At the small wavelengths WiFi uses it would take much of a change to throw it completely off.
Here's an idea, perhaps better than your twist ties dangling out of the phone..
my suggestion involves running the tie twist up the inside of the phone beside the screen, not outside.
only one way to find out
I'll give it a try when my new housing arrives in a few weeks!

What does this do?

There are no good description for this product. Does anyone know what they do?
I think this is an ordinary gps modul and description made by someone who does not know there is already a gps receiver built-in in X1.
maybe you use it to help find your keys?

Right but the description confuses me and it does sound exactly like what jabe said. But I would so buy this if it was key finder.
It just a bluetooth GPS module that fits on a key chain. You don't need it as the X1 already has a built in GPS chip. If you had a smartphone without a GPS chip, then there's be some benefit to it.
Or if you wanted to use GPS stuff on a laptop or something with BT etc.
Suppose your X1 is positioned in your car that way that the GPS reception is bad but you cannot relocate it. You can set it up to receive GPS signals from this external module. The module itself can be put anywhere like near a window or on the car's roof or so.
WTF? Did you even read? "The Freedom Keychain GPS 2000 is the world’s lightest and most compact pocket GPS receiver."
It's an external GPS receiver.
gps is receiving only!
you pick up a signal from several satellites and the device calc your position
this keythingy have gps and bluetooth
bluetooth have a range of 10m so even if it could transmit
it's cords to your phone then you would have to be pretty close to the lost keys
an external gps, my brother has one but of a different brand. his loads really quick and there's no need to wait on finding satellites. i'm not sure how this performs though, but for a keychain it seems promising for other phones without a built-in gps
I actually have one of those. Well, mine is a white Vodafone branded one, but it's the same chip, hardware, box, everything. It's actually still vaguely useful - it's DGPS capable (WAAS/EGNOS), which the X1's GPS chip is not (augmented accuracy within certain systems, WAAS for North America/Canada and out to sea within several hundred miles, EGNOS for Europe etc), and it has apparently far better reception - my X1i couldn't pick up a GPS signal to save its life inside a BA Boeing 777 flight. The bluetooth'd external reciever picked up and held a strong signal for the entire 3500 mile flight at 40k ft. And inside a plane fuselage, that's got to be borderline faraday cage.

Why is Android Auto not using the GPS antenna of the car?

I am wondering that AA is not using the GPS antenna of the car. May car (2016 SEAT/VW) has a built in GPS antenna. I would expect a much better signal from the car antenna on the roof. However AA seems to use the phone GPS antenna.
Is this always the case and part of the Android Auto specifications.? Is this the case with your cars as well?
I did check it as follows:
- Use googke maps in AA
- Deactivate GPS in the phone (press last used button and then home button to get to the settings)
- The Headunit in the car is saying "no GPS" so it's obviously using the phones antenna.
Update: My car doesn't seem to have an integrated GPS antenna. That the reason. However the test may be interesting for somebody with an integrated antenna to proof that it is used.
Strange. The web is telling a different story.
Gizmodo:
"I was told at Google I/O last year that Auto could leverages the car’s GPS antenna which should make it more accurate, and it should help to improve the phone’s battery situation."
Androidpit
8 Android Auto will be able to use in-car hardware
Android Auto runs on your phone, but that doesn’t mean it’s limited to your phone’s hardware. Apps will be able to access the car’s own GPS and GPS antenna (if fitted), steering wheel controls, the sound system, the car’s wheel speed, its compass and any mobile antennas, and there are moves to access car data from the vehicle’s own computer too.
Please see update in first post.
I have a Kenwood DDX9702S and a 2011 Honda CRZ that had nav from the factory. The Kenwood includes a GPS antenna passthrough, so I plugged in my OEM GPS antenna. I can confirm that Android Auto does not activate location services on my phone while using it.

USB DAB+ devices and signal strength

Hello to all...
Just wan't to solve some issue with USB dab+ signal.
I bought Dab+ usb dongle (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32861687291.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.21ef18023f5v55) and now is connected to my multimedia device (ALPS FF5000 / 8227L chipset) in car (Peugeot 308 mk1 2011y). Installed an app called DAB Z for running DAB+ radio.
Supposedly, the signal is stronger and good when used without lights on the car, but when you turn on the lights, the signal simply disappears or is zero.
I noticed this when I started the car radio without the engine running. When I turn on the car and the lights (both the car radio and its lights come on - which means it draws energy from the battery and may take extra power to power the usb ports where the usb dongle is) the signal is simply lost. How do I solve this, when I turn on the lights so the signal doesn't go away, does anyone know?
Thanks to everyone in advance for your help!
Best regards!
Those DAB+ antennas are garbage. Buy proper antenna, but only antenna, and keep this usb dongle. Those glass mounted antennas only works in really great conditions.

Yes I noticed , I bought another one better signal is stronger, but I noticed also that problem was in led lights installed in car. They cause interference of antenna if no resistors installed with led bulbs. I removed them and put origin al H7 bulbs and now signal is great. But I'm in to solve that problem with lights and antennas. Have you come across this problem ?
Hm. I don't remember anymore. I also think I had some problems when I turned on ignition in my car. But I never researched, if the issue was led lights or anything else. I just bought better antena, that I mounted on the roof, and since then, I don't have any problems with signal anymore. I can listen to DAB+ radio in most remote areas possible. I also noticed that if I put this better antenna inside the car, signal drops instantly. So I have to put it on the roof.

I have bought 3 in 1 antenna amplifier . Dab+ and Fm. It strenghten signal significally. I resolved this problem but still, problem remains with led lights as they don't have any resistors and cause interference with antenna.
