Love the new quick launch feature on the OnePlus 6T. Here's how to use it! - OnePlus 6T Guides, News, & Discussion

Unlike other OEMs out there that use the in-display fingerprint scanner to just unlock the device, OnePlus actually gives you the ability to quickly launch other apps as well. That's just frigging amazing and I absolutely love it. You can check the full tutorial here - https://themrphone.com/article/oneplus-6t-quick-launch-apps-screen-unlock
Kind of a bummer that you still need to wake the display in the first place to actually use the in-display fingerprint scanner, but still, this is good nonetheless.

Nice, thanks for info.
Yes, completely agree that having to wake the display in the first place to actually use the in-display fingerprint scanner is a bit of a step back. Fingers crossed for a Magisk module!

tmobile version doesn't have this yet. just so everyone knows.

I think I'll be using the "touch to wake" option

The screen has to be woken in order to light your finger. UD readers use a camera behind the OLED panel to take a picture of your fingerprint, and the panel is what actually lights your finger for that shot. The only compromise I could see would be something to keep the rest of the screen dim/blank and only activate the fingerprint area, but it'll still require you to wake the screen.

Yeah, aod is probably something that can do the job at the lowest acceptable lighting requirement to read the FP.

My "Settings" app carashes when I try to enter on that menu (quick launch)... What should I do?

When you touch the fingerprint reader area the pixels behind it light up to 100% brightness in order to illuminate your finger.
The "tap to wake" feature already available pretty much solves this "problem". You simply press your finger onto the "off" display in the place where the fingerprint reader is located (easy to do after some practice) and the display turns on, fignerprint scanner illuminates and reads your finger which then unlocks the phone.

I do hope they tweak how bright the screen has to be, but from all I've read, those pixels have to be at full blast to get an accurate read on the fingerprint., so they probably need to at the very least need to regionally brighten that area of the screen fully on the ambient screen. Someone out there more clever than I will surely figure it out in a way that doesn't compromise security. Hoping it's OnePlus, but we've got an incredible community that can take a swing at it too!

Mine do not have any such feature..

Though the feature is cool I am not happy with the experience. It's not smooth, it shows pattern input screen for a while before showing quick launch menu.
Also the home screen/last app screen before the quick launch and the vibrations (too intense) are also bummer

What version of OxygenOS are you on? I'm on 9.0.3 and I don't seem to have the Quick Launch option?!

Hello mate!
I've already solved this by enabling the apps that I disabled before (like Google Pay, Google Music/Video and a few others). Then, once the quick launch worked, I disabled again those apps. :good:

still waiting for 9.0.4 to have this

by default, the quick launch is set to open a few google apps preinstalled on the device.
If you disabled/removed some of them, but didn't remove them on the quick launch list before that, then it's going to crash every time you open the quick launch setting.
Enable every default app and try again, if it still doesn't work then factory reset and next time remember to remove all apps in this setting before disabling them.

That's why I keep going back to the intl firmware. Quick launch and OnePlus lab. Phone feels much more premium and snappy with intl

Things I don't like about the Mate 10. What's yours?

1. The volume button and power button are too close together. The amount of times I went to reach the power button to turn off the display and accidentally took a screenshot by pressing power and volume down together.
2. The back is way too slippery. If the phone is on my bed and and leaning on the mattress slightly, the phone moves. Even just tapping the screen to navigate makes the phone slowly move away. Have to keep putting the case back on.
3. Gloves don't work with the front mounted sensor button. Not really blaming Huawei for that, but if out and about and gloved, you can't press the home button as the sensor won't work. I disabled my navigation bar which is the main reason I got this phone for full screen real estate. Thank God I can add the Navigation Floating Dock on the Quick Tiles so I can enable and use that when gloved and out.
4. Battery is good but not what I was expecting. Same as my Mate 9 battery life and yet I thought the Kirin 970 was 50% more efficient than the 960.
5. Wish camera had more slow motion speeds.
6. Persistent Android System notification but that's an Oreo thing and not a Huawei thing.
Having said all that I love this phone and it's the best phone I ever had.
Only had mine two days so more annoyances will probably come to light.
Agree about the power/volume button positioning.
Also since I've got a glass screen protector on it, it's a bit harder to access the sensor (have to press down into it) which is a bit annoying since it's my main means of navigating back and home as well as unlocking.
Infact the same sensor/button being used for both back (short press) and home (long press) is also awkward as I frequently do one when I mean to do the other.
Finally, it seems a bit complicated seemingly with multiple apps and settings for the same thing (though I am coming from Windows Mobile which might seem simpler as it didn't have many apps)
Agree great phone though (probably my best ever also)
I just got my mate 10 (alp-l29,black,4gb) from UAE.
1. Inability to theme notification/quick toggle area - stays black no matter what theme you apply. Looks out of place considering all notifications except spotify are light/white themed.
2.home button with 3 functions is not as easy to manage as I thought, but I will have to get used to it, since i aint giving away screen real estate and use on screen buttons on this monster.
3. Display settings in regard of View Mode and Text Size are not perfect, meaning that View Mode setting does not change size of text for notifications and they just look to big unless you use small text, but then again small text and default viewing area makes other areas look to big like whatsapp, chrome and so on. the best setting for perfect view View Mode - Small, Text Size - Normal, while taking into account that in such combo your notifications will be large/too large to fit notification are when you receive 3-4 messages/emails.
Otherwise I love this phone. Its fast, lag free. Kinda fat, but in combo with the weight, I like how it sits in my hand.
For the first time I quible only about thickness. Anything over 8mm feels a little thick...

Well to update my post, I just tried with a very thin pair of unlined black leather gloves I own and in fact the sensor button DOES work while gloved. So I can press it to go back and forth and navigate as usual. It does not work with fingerprint recognition apps/phone unlocking of course, but once you are in, they do work.
FYI they are a UK brand: Dents Extra Soft 3000 silk lined gloves but I ripped out the silk lining to make them unlined and for more flexibility and thinness and to work with the sensor. ?

UPDATE.
I found a solution to this issue where none of the combinations of View Mode and Text Size settings give you ideally looking system, meaning not too large or not too tiny. At default everything looks to large IMO and they should done better on qhd 6.0” screen. If not by default, view mode needs 5 not 3 steps.
So far the best I got is with this combo of settings:
1. View Mode and Text Size at Small;
2. Dpi @392 (under Developer Settings).
With this settings I believe the text size and viewing area is appropriate for qhd 6” screen.
For me,
I simply hate the single button implementation. Especially for recent task action, sometimes it ends up detecting my swipe as a tap, and going back accidentally
If one button is indeed a must, then i prefer the Meizu style implementation, where i can simply swipe up from bottom screen to access recent.
Current huawei implementation is too slow to my liking, not to mention, its a waste of space, since we can actually put something next to the button

Well that might be true if we are on home page,
But if we are still using an app, swiping up will only do scrolling :silly: , and the point of getting into recent screen is of course, for switching between app
Also,
I kinda expect by this time, huawei would already implement off screen gesture. At least for skipping song,
I mount my phone on my car center dash often, using maps and streaming spotify,
Without off screen gesture, its too troublesome, since i need to reach the phone while driving (not to mention its dangerous)
Because of this, now most of that job done by my Meizu Pro 7
They already implement "Knock & Draw" feature to launch app, so i dont see why they still cant get offscreen gesture

Yes. I missed double tap to wake. Huawei should not remove the set data limit feature as well.
I overall like the phone but couple things
Camera is disappointing. Not as good as expecting. I do believe it's the software side letting it down. I was more impressed with the pixel 1 and HTC u11 camera
Battery life could be better. It's good but should be better with the battery size. Again seems needs more software tweaks. Inside just browsing with WiFi I can get up to 7-8 hours SOT. it just seems when I'm at work. I use a little sat nav and mobile data and a bit of music streaming it drains quickly. Just as quick as phones with smaller battery's
The software. I like emui . I like it a lot more than I thought. But it definitely is a bit buggy here and there ..again software updates could improve this
Another really picky thing...even though I really can't notice this isn't a 2k screen and is 1080p and it's a gorgeous screen. It still would have been nice to have the option. Especially since all flagships at this price and above have 2k screens

- I don't know... different people report different experience. I mean some people are getting a lot of SOT and some not. which is quite confusing.
- also, the same regarding the camera, some say it is amazing some say not that good, check this post, what do you think about it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/mate-10-vs-pixel-2-xl-camera-t3707909
according to these pics, Mate 10 definitely wins over pixel 2 xl !
well these 2 things are what is going to make me buy the mate 10 in few days. so i was looking for reviews around the web to make up mind.

The camera definitely isn't bad. But hasn't given me that wow factor. Especially in low light. Like I said I think after a couple software updates things will improve slot. No doubt the battery is good but could be better considering the Battery size
I've switched from One Plus 2 to Mate 10 and I think the Mate 10 could use some gestures, like hold home button to lock the phone etc. Right now, it's just pressing the power button to lock the phone. Bugs me.
The other thing i've noticed is that, there's no dark theme on Mate 10, but there's dark theme on the Mate 10 pro. Besides, another thing that irks me is the fact that we can't mute the shutter sound in 3rd party apps even when you're in silent mode. Like if my phone is in silent mode and I want to send a pic using the whatsapp camera, i can't disable the sound.

That's because the Mate 10 Pro has an OLED screen and white backgrounds consume more power, so they give you the option to use black backgrounds to save power. The standard Mate 10 has an LCD screen and white backgrounds be are not an issue.
The always on display which doesn't display any useful notifications is quite annoying.

Camera mode shortcuts not available in Pie anymore?

I frequently use the regular quickstart feature for the camera but I also placed two shortcuts for slo-mo and super slo-mo on my homescreen before the upgrade to Pie.
While the existing shortcuts still work I can't seem to place new ones. Was this feature removed?
To me that's a very handy feature because switching modes in the new stock camera app is way too slow.

That would blow pretty badly. Cameras are one of the most important features of a modern smartphone, potentially a deal-breaker for most users, and they give us a neutered app in an update...

Samsung's vision for the One UI was to make things easier, better and quicker. I can only imagine the things they changed or removed, they somehow decided would be better and easier.

There is an indicator that fast charging is active on my N950N, which I updated to Pie yesterday. Did you check the notification drawer.
Yeah fast charging still works for me as well.
Also, the shortcuts do still work for the camera. On my homescreen I have one camera shortcut for super slo-mo left from before the update to Pie. So clearly they are still burried in the system somewhere.
How could I copy an existing shortcut and edit it to launch, say, the regular slo-mo mode indead?
I am using Nova launcher, I tried the included shortcut feature to add camera activities to the home screen. Didn't have any success with that.
Edit: I have now resorted to using... *sigh* Bixby to launch the camera in slo-mo mode ._. I hope you are happy, Samsung. Look at what you made me do!
Bixby? You can create a shortcuts tova home screen using Bixby? How?

In the Bixby settings you can set up quick commands. When you press the three dots next to the quick command you created you have the option to add it to the home screen.
You can also launch that quick command with the Bixby button instead of a thirdparty app.
I now set the quick command for launching the Slo-Mo mode for the camera to the Bixby button. It's reasonably quick and gets the job done for me.
The quick commands on the home screen take much longer to load. It first loads Bixby, then it executes the linked command and then the app starts.
But with the Bixby button the command itself is being executed right away which is much faster.

How else do you unlock it at the moment ? It has always been touch screen to unlock. Turn on ambient display for single touch to wake or enable double tap to wake and scan fingerprint.
Yeah , camera definitely could be better with the current hardware it has.
Google phone app can be installed via flashing the Google Dialer Framework magisk module
There's no better option because there's no option at the moment Hoping for a real always on display implementation. That would be great.

Huawei P30 Pro Features - Question?

Hi!
Does the Huawei P30 Pro have the following features:
- Always On Display with ALL 3rd party notifications?
- Double-tap to sleep from home AND lockscreen
- Double-tap to wake from Always On Display
Thank you!
Yes the AOD supports all 3rd party notifications as long as they appear on the status bar. There are exceptions to this, for 'silent' notifications that only appear when you pull the bar down.
I don't believe that it supports double tap in any way, shape or form. With regards to tap-to-sleep this wouldn't work as the double-tap gesture is used to take a screenshot.
Double tap to wake from AOD is not supported either, however if you have fingerprint unlock it is kinda 'one-tap-to-wake' as you place your finger on the fingerprint scanner and the screen comes on.

Good to know about 3rd party notification on the AOD. Do the icons stay on the AOD even if you wake the phone up, but do not act on those notifications?
I'm asking because the way Xiaomi Mi 9 handles this is a complete mess.
Thank you!

No. When you unlock the phone (even if you don't dismiss the notifications) the icons will disappear from the AOD until another notification from the same app comes through.
For example, if you have a whatsapp message and unlock the phone the WA icon will disappear from the AOD until you receive another WA message.
EDIT: The exception to this is persistent notifications. For example I have VPN Unlimited. If this is connected then the icon remains. Likewise with WhatsApp Web notification, that remains.

To each their own, but I think it makes perfect sense. If I have unlocked the device then I am aware of the notifications - they don't get removed from the phone, just the AOD. Much in the same way a notification LED would handle it on a Samsung or other device. I would, if I could, get rid of the persistent notifications on the AOD, but other than that I don't mind.
Am I happy with the Huawei? In a way, yes. I got it for the camera and I am very impressed with it, unless you wish to shoot video. If you want to shoot video (with special mention of super-slow-motion videos) then you should look to get a different device - In my opinion.
The still photography is better than pretty much any other phone that I've ever used or come across and the night-time photography is also excellent. Video wise the panning stutters a little, the slow motion is purely interpolation (the sensor only captures 240fps, not 960 as it claims) and the colours in video seem... unrealistic. Sometimes too soft, sometimes too vivid. It's good, but not as good as others on the market for video.
Hello all,
I'm currently in China and would like to buy a P30 (Pro) and use it in Europe / Germany.
Are there different hardware specs (e. G. Lte bands) except for the obvious memory and storage options?
Thank you very much ?

Question Rear display

In the leaked videos, the user was able to show the homescreen with icons on the rear display. Was that any early MIUI version option only?
In the current firmware, it's not possible... Laybe later?
Anyway, I don't see myself using an app on it, it's really small for that, + it'd require UI changes from the devs...

I would like to use it to answer with speaker or decline calls. Also use it for quick responses to text.
I have noticed I can skip songs on the Spotify playlist when it's playing by accidentally touching the rear display
( I haven't found anything useful to do with it yet tbh and I hope they improve the functionality of it )
Ohh nice! As of now it's pretty early, I'm sure they'll add those little things during updates

I don't think I'm getting the red notification light on the rear display either like it shows in the Xiaomi presentation vids but maybe I just need to enable it somehow
I usually don't set my phone's with the screen facing downwards on tables anyway so it's got limited usefulness to me anyway whether it works or not

But to enable it/change appearance

One of the issues is the rear screen can only stay on for 30 seconds max which maybe why people think the notification is not working properly ( because you would have to double tap to see it even if it is working properly)
And who likes to set their phone face down anyway? These screens are fragile and very expensive !
Honestly think they just had a screenshot of their home screen and made it the image I never actually seen anyone able to use the mini screen
Yeah they haven't ironed the kinks out pertaining to the rear display.
Out of the box, I had the red led indicator show up although it would be there even when I had no notifications.
I like it as a novelty feature but they really need to address the functionality bit.
