Clean and stable rom for Doogee X5 Pro (not Max)? - Doogee X5 Questions & Answers

I've been using my Doogee X5 Pro (not Max) since its release, it came with stock android 5.1, there was only problem with the alarm clock (when you changed the phone's default volume down, the alarm's volume got damped every time but never up), so after a while I was trying out random rom across the web, almost every single one of them had some issues from 5.1 to 7.1 like calls were noisy, battery life wasn't correctly shown and camera flash doesn't work, can't connect to PC, wifi problems etc. In the meanwhile doogee released an Official stock rom 6.0 and so for like a year and a half I had that on my phone but for a few months I am getting really aggressive popup ads on the phone, disabled com.android.snap and deleted/disabled every chinese app that might cause this, so far it works until I have to restard the phone for some reason? then I have to do it all over again.
Trying and testing every single avaiable ROm for just one phone would take tremendous ammount of time.
So I am curious, Is there any ROM that worth the effort to be bothered with and provide a final solution? At least until another cheap and powerful micarle phone arrives from china (back in 2015 it was a wonder IMO) in about 1-2 years.

See the last post on this thread,

Still not 100% clean but the best I've had yet. It's for the 32 bit version.

Thanks!
In the meanwhile I get to know about Android Go, I am still looking info about it, but this might actually would be the best if the Phone supports it.
Official, clean, takes up less space, etc. I am not sure about a couple of things in this topic.

Just thought I would let you know I've found what seems to be a Stable malware free Rom for my Doogee X5 Max pro(at last).I've been testing it today after your post.
It's the .rom made by or for Xiaomi phones.MUI 8
I've not got enough posts on the forum yet to post the links
Installed with TWRP installed and Superuser rooted.
It took between 5 and 10 mins to load on first boot after flashing so be patient after TWRP install. After that pretty normal reboot times etc.
I did a Factory reset before installing the .rom
Then after the first boot I did another Factory Reset just to make sure it was installed super clean.
Some apps played up and it stated that it pre-installed,"Gapps" but it didn't.After research I found and installed this one and it works,
The Installer.apk didn't work but loading the MM-gapps-fixed-signed.zip loaded via TWRP works.
It's a very nice rom and looks like a,"Keeper" but time will tell.Scanned with Eset and no problems.
If you use TWRP to make a Nanroid backup before you try it you can easily go back to your present .rom if you don;t like it.It will take time to set it up right as a few things are different to find but nothing too bad.
I don't like stock file managers so quickly installed my fave,"total Commander" which I keep copies of on the SD card and my Laptop along with other apps/apks to save download times.
I don't know if I'm allowed to post links via Private message so it you want them PM me and we'll try

Just thought I would update.Although the Xiaomi phones.MUI 8 rom seems stable and half decent out-of-the-box there are some niggles when I used some of my Fave apps.Total commander file manager is slowed down.I couldn't change the Wallpaper unless I uninstaleld,"Holo Launcher" my fave launcher.
I decided to go back to my previous post Stock/modded rom.
[However.I've installed and been testing
How To Install Lineage OS 15 For Doogee X5 Max Pro (Development)
put it into a search engine as I can't post links.
The 14.1 Lineage is running Fantastic.Totally clean so far and no problem with any of my apps.
If it keeps up like this this is how a DooGee X5 Max Pro should be :good:
Note:Yet again on first boot it took over 10 mins to come online so be patient but then acts normal.
Also I like to use a Different Keyboard so for any Lineage 14.1 users it's hidden away a bit on how to change.
Install your fave keyboard then
Settings
Languagea & Input
Virtual Keyboard
+ sign Manage Keyboards.May require a reboot after selection.

It will be worth it I think.I've been setting it up how I like it and not one crash or problem I can 't sort so far.I didn't even have to install Gapps.I just used my WiFi to install Google stuff and gmail/google drive.
The DooGee isn't my main phone now as I got fed up of the Malware/Adware rubbish but it's now going to make a fine backup phone :good:
PS
I keep TWRP Nandroid backups on my Laptop so I can easily re-install quick once setup .Also the TWRP backup time is less than 200 seconds compared with over 300 for the other roms so it's a super slim rom

Installaed TWRP 3.2.2.0 and LineageOS 14.1 with ARM Gapps (pico). From this site-- getdroidtips dot com/lineage-os-14-1-on-doogee-x5-pro/ -- there is a link which leads to 4 different LineageOS 14.1, sadly the oldest one installs without any problem. With the 3 latest one I get the STATUS CODE 7 error in TWRP, googled the problem, edited the updater-script.txt with notepad++ for the latest one and tried again after that I get the error that the "updater-script" missing from the path or something like this. Didn't have time to check the others. (Before all I installed XenonHD for Doogee X5 Pro without any problem but I want LineageOS). Also on the installed LineageOS the networking doesn't seem to work well. Will open a new thread about the whole problem.

Is there any OS that works ?

Hello .... I'm finding whatever OS I'm trying becoming unstable to use . So, I'm asking if there is any OS that is actually stable enough to use . I don't care whether it's an old version or what . I'm not using the tablet for games, just something I can browser the internet with . TIA
The one that has given me the fewest issues is https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712680 [ROM] [4.4.4] [CyanogenMod 11 by Jcsullins] [DM] [06/12/15]
everything works extremely well except the DSP manager when adjusting audio settings for the built in speakers where changes beyond the defaults do not have any effect on the audio.
Sadly many of the links are dead for things like gapps.
The ROM I use is cm-11-20151116-SNAPSHOT-jcsullins-tenderloin.zip
The gapps I use is: gapps-444-base-20160802-1-signed.zip
If needed, I can upload the gapps that I use though I am unsure if the forum has any rules surrounding it if I were to upload them to something like dropbox.
I try the others from time to time (easier for me since I really only use BSplayer and chrome in order to watch videos in a hover window while surfing the web (occasionally using my Bluetooth speakers or headphones).
Anyway, the main reason why I keep coming back to it, is the memory management. For many newer ROMs, you have issues such as the google calendar widget not working,or chrome not working properly, or when it is working, frequeny memory issues, especially if you want to upload an image to a site where it switches to the gallery app. by the time you select an image, it would fail to attach it because it will complain that the previous action could not be completed due to low memory.
With android 4.4, I do not have that issue. I don't know why it keeps happening for me since there are times when there will be over 100MB of free RAM, and chrome will still fail to do things with that error message.
Beyond that, the home screen under android 7.1.1 does not hold as many icons or widgets, even if you set the screen size to small, or adjust the dpi to 120. the home screen holds fewer icons and fewer widgets.
Overall, while it si great that newer versions of android are being supported, I feel that from a hardware standpoint then tablet has reached its limit with android 4.4
While there is also an evervolve version of android 4.4, for some reason it does not perform as well, even with more kernel features such as being able to overclock past 1.78GHz. it takes longer to boot, and some widgets do not work, along with issues with chrome.

Check out the Nougat Evervolv thread. I've been using it, and it's fantastic.
Thanks for your input Razor512 .... And crazyates : Has this been updated since its first release, because when I gave it a go it was very unstable

Yes it has, but you need to download the nightly from their website. The XDA thread has an older version.

Ok, great news there crazyates. I installed evervolv from the YouTube guide, Do you know whether it still will work with those methods in the guide just as long I replace it with
ev_tenderloin-7.1.1-nightly-2017.03.03.zip and I believe you are using gapps-511-base-20161007-1-signed.zip , yes ? Thanks

I'm not sure about the Youtube instructions, and I followed the written instructions on the forums.
Also, IIRC, if you're using a 7.1.1 ROM, you can't use a 5.1.1 Gapps. I would recommend downloading the newest 7.1.1 Gapps.
Here are the instructions I followed:

If you end up having to start from scratch in TP Toolbox v0.42, follow these steps:
- Download a TP Toolbox Compatible ROM
- Download a TP Toolbox Compatible GApps
- Download a TP Toolbox Compatible TWRP
1. In the TP Toolbox v0.42 main menu, do a 'Complete Data Reset' to start from scratch
2. Select the 'Install Android' option from the main menu
3. Copy the 3 above files to the install folder after the TP is mounted
4. When given the option to adjust partition sizes, increase the System partition to at least 1312mb
5. Finish install, and reboot to TWRP
6. While in TWRP, flash the 9/6/16 TWRP 3.0.2.0 or the smaller 9/11/16 TWRP 3.0.2.0
7. Reboot into the new TWRP that you just flashed
8. In TWRP advanced wipe menu, wipe the System partition
9. While still in TWRP, flash the ROM from the OP along with some OpenGapps
10. Worship @jcsullins and @flintman, as they are your gods.

crazyates said:
Step 3: While you're copying the older ROM/Gapps/TWRP into the "ttinstall" folder, I also copied everything you need for the new install into an "evervolv" folder. This way you can copy everything at once, and formatting a volume in TWRP doesn't destroy your install files.
Step 4: I have a 32GB TP, and don't use hardly any of it, so I increased the System to ~2GB, and the Cache to ~1GB. I figured going on the big side couldn't hurt.
Step 6: There's a newer version of Flintmans TWRP, 3.0.3.0(12/22/16).
Step 8: After you wipe the System, reformat the Data and Cache volumes as F2FS. Because your install files are on the External_SD instead of the Data, you can do this without recopying your install zips back again. I installed the system twice, once with Ext4 and once with F2FS. It feels snappier, and runs a lot better with F2FS.
Step 9: I used the Nightly build for the ROM, which is working great. Then the newest Gapps. Then I also flashed the SKZ overclock kernel at the same time.
Few other notes: Changing the Governor to LionHeart and Scheduler to Tripndroid made a noticeable difference for me. Also, because this doesn't have a lot of RAM, I gotta be careful with what I install, and how much I try to use it. Do NOT install Chrome from the app store. It will eat every bit of RAM available, and slow the whole thing down. I also use Greenify (with root permissions) to hibernate any app I can so it saves a lot of RAM that was as well. I'm using ~329MB (40%) for the system, with ~500MB (60%) available for apps.

@crazyates Did you try Evervolv 7.1 nightlies? I'm curious to read your experience feedback because I'm on it and getting tired of always having a non-responsive tablet. I might go back to 4.4 as I'll go mad otherwise.

I am running the 7.1.1 nightlies. I haven't had any problems, and it's running very smooth. I'll randomly update it to the newest nightly, and haven't noticed any issues.
I do remember the time I first installed Evervolv 6.0 nightly last year. I installed it, and the touchscreen didn't work. At all. Looked into it, and it was a problem with that specific nightly build, so I went and reflashed everything with the one from the day before, and it worked great.
Anyways, all that to say it's working great, but it's still a nightly, so sometimes things go wonky.
I am still running a really old ICS build, and I noticed i can't update all my apps no more... what is the best Android version to run on the TP. Bluetooth is a must, but Camera isn't. Heard good things about 4.4.4 and 7.1.1, which one would you guys say runns smoother?

Can't say much for 4.4.4, but I'm using 7.1.1 and it's great!
The only argument I could see making for 4.4.4 is if it runs a bit lighter than 7.1.1. These only have 1GB of RAM, so if 4.4.4 is capable of using less RAM for the android system, that means more RAM for apps. On the flip side, 7.1.1 uses such things as zRAM and KSM for better memory management, so it may be a wash.

yeah, this is what I want to figure out. The developments in the Android codebase were quite extensive between these two releases, and the huge influx of budget phones in some markets (like mine for example) lead me to believe memory management would have been a key point in developing versions after 4.4.4. I'll give 7.1.1 a whirl and see how it goes.

Error: unrecognized/unsopported zip 'FLINTMAN-TWRP-touch-data_media-SELINUX-f2fs-3.0.3.0-1-23-17.zip'
Error: Incompatible GAPPS/ROM versions None/7.0
I used the latest nightly (ev_tenderloin-7.1.1-nightly-2017.03.08.zip) and tried both open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170312.zip and open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170312, also I tried some of the TWRP-Versions you linked. I'm using TPToolbox v42 2015-01-08). So I wonder how you can figure out which versions fit together, I can remember this nagged me last time until I found a combination that worked...

Was that error message from TP Toolbox, or from TWRP? TP Toolbox won't recognize the newer TWRP images, nor will it recognize any 7.1 ROM/Gapps, so you need to use an older version to get things started. Once the older TWRP is installed, then you can use it to update to a newer version.
All in all, I had 8 ZIP files on my HP Touchpad to get a complete 7.1.1 install, but you can do it with as few as 6:
OLD ROM: CM 12.1
OLD Gapps: 5.1
OLD TWRP: 2.8.3.0
NEW ROM: Evervolv Nightly
NEW Gapps: 7.1
NEW TWRP: 3.0.3.0 F2FS
SKZ Kernel (Optional)
SuperSU (Optional)
Thank you! I installed the latest nightly, and it works fine so far.
The only thing I noticed that some apps now are blocking the device. This was also the case with the Android 4.4 Pac-Rom I used before. So it seems that some apps are using recources that aren't working well on the Touchpad at all, or that there is a general problem in several CM-versions.
For example the current version of Google Maps is so slow, you won't use it. I installend an older version (7.7.0), and this one works very fine. Also the new version of Maps lost the WiFi connection, which didn't cause any problem with the older version. So I wonder if there is some kind of incompatibility.
Another example: Fake GPS Location is much quicker than GPS-Emulator which also got stuck from time to time. Also the current Amazon App store was slooow.
Summary: Android 7.x runs fine so far, but you have to make sure that you get rid of the apps which block the device for some reason.
7.x is very slow some times.

When you say "blocking" you mean very slow? Since I uptaded from 4.4 to 7.x I've noticed that lots of apps are very slow. Some freezes for seconds and returns only when I block the device and turn on again. I dont know if its only on mine or its normal because of the old hardware. Is there any version that run real smooth? Or other system?

Yes I mean very slow. Often so slow that it takes a minute until you can change to another app.
The Problem also existed on my 4.4 Pac Rom, so I guess it's rather caused by new apps who might expect some feature, like multicore, etc. Or it is some fault, that already existed in older custom roms. Not sure. However, I can recommend downgrading apps in this case, older versions often work like normal.

It doesn't work for me ... I'm having issues . First off I like to ask why he didn't use the latest Rom ? And the part with go to the PC Mounted Touchpad internal drive for the TWRP ? When I open the TWRP folder I don't see twrps file, why not ? There nothing in this folder, its empty . What I done was just placed those zip files in the TWRP folder . Afterwards once I do the final reboot to Evervolv it will just show those Evervolv lights flashing like its trying to load up but it doesn't, it just keeps continuously trying to load but it never does

[Discussion] Resurrection Remix 7 for Hammerhead (Android 9 Pie)

Hello everyone. I am opening this thread for the sake of convenience of us users of this ROM so that we stop hijacking the Oreo version thread and have a "clean" place where we can discuss about our experience with this great ROM. So I suggest anything regarding this ROM to be posted here!
You can find the official builds here: https://get.resurrectionremix.com/?dir=hammerhead
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means a developer or maintainer of this ROM, so this cannot be considered an official support thread, just conversation, plain and simple! Moderators can close this thread as soon as an official support thread opens.
Cheers!
I just installed the rom, came from stock. My first impressions are:
-It took 2 reboots to get the camera working. Installed google camera app since the integrated one doesnt show up on app drawer(you can access it from lockscreen though) and it seems to work kinda bad(picture goes black on it sometimes).
-It runs a bit hotter than stock rom. It might be just me though,I have opened the phone a few times to fix the power button which seems to get stuck for me once in a while.
-The default DPI doesn't seem right, everything looks a little bit smaller than it does on stock rom. There is an option to change it though, I set mine to 380 and it looks about right.
I haven't found any other issues yet.
Another note,I think the rom fixed my notification led lol. It didn't work for me on stock rom for some reason.
Pretty good rom overall,I haven't faced any stability issues yet.
edit: Is there any way to lower the resolution?
I upgraded from RR's Oreo build. Before flashing I repartitioned the phone using the method described here and the even more detailed instructions posted by douguluskaien on page 12 of that thread. The flash went very smoothly and although the phone initially ran hot it cooled back to normal after a few hours of what was probably background processing. With the 1.5G system partition I was able to install the micro version of GAPPS. I've had that experience after flashing new ROMs on other phones as well. I also discovered the bundled camera doesn't work and installed Google Camera. After starting up Google Camera, the original camera worked also. I tried connecting bluetooth headphones, and even though I could pair the headset I couldn't get the phone to send audio - it just kept playing through the phone speaker. I also found the default font size a little small, but changing it to Large in the Font Size menu got it back to what seems like normal.
I have one major issue which I realize is not directly related to the ROM. A custom version of TWRP is required to support the non-standard partitions, and that version is based on TWRP 3.2.3 and doesn't support device encryption. Does anyone know if an updated TWRP will be available that will allow me to encrypt the phone and still do recovery-related stuff?
In summary, this is impressively well along for a build that's only been live for a couple of weeks. This isn't my daily driver so I don't need absolute stability, so this is plenty for me for now. I just won't leave the house with it until I can encrypt.
I've been using this ROM for about a month now as a daily driver, so here's my feedback:
ROM is very nice and smooth and feature rich (as expected for RR). I installed it with Opengapps nano, rooted with Magisk. It works very well with the Pixel launcher I grabbed from here.
Some drawbacks I noticed:
Battery life is rather bad. I get 1h30m SOT at best with very mild usage (mostly site browsing and a little bit of social apps and YT video watching) . Then again I am still using the 5yr old battery that came with the phone...
The phone runs very hot (too hot to hold!) after using it for some time. It cools down rather fast if you let it be for a while, though.
Sometimes the camera is crashing (the notorious "can't connect to camera" error). usually a reboot fixes this.
Sometimes it takes a while for the device to wake up after pressing the power button.
I got some soft reboots under device heavy load. Mostly I get them when using the Rocket player music app, and it tries to load a large music folder. Phone freezes, then soft reboots.
SElinux is set to permissive and the build is signed with test keys. Maybe the first thing is caused by the latter, I don't know really....
Overall, it is a good ROM with room for improvement. However, I am concerned about its maintenance status. No update since May 14, so I keep my fingers crossed.

Do you know about change log??
What features added?
I want to update it tonight
As I state at the first post, I am not a developer, neither I have any involvement in this project and the people behind it. So I can't provide any support apart from my experience as a user.

I didn't flash this build so I don't know if it works or not. I have switched to a different ROM. However, could you elaborate? Do you come from another ROM? Did you dirty flash? Is your device repartitioned? Usually error 7 in TWRP means there's not enough system space...

I do not see any changelog file on the download page. Unfortunately with no official support thread, there are no official answers as well...
I flashed this build this morning by dirty way
Unfortunately Bluetooth is not working
It can find the other devices but can not connect to them
1- How can I fix it?
2-How can I downgrade to previous build?

Thanks for the idea, I had just repartitioned, so I had format my entire phone, (before that i had taken the backup ), and I had successfully installed the rom, I got an strange issue of WIFI connectivity, as I am not able to connect to my wifi which is having Hidden SSID, but i am successfully connected with the hotspot from my another primary phone. i haven't tested the bluetooth yet.
I dirty flashed the new build this morning. Haven't tried bluetooth or camera yet, but Wifi is working fine. As usual, the phone heated up for about a half hour after the flash and then the temp dropped and stabilized. Battery life is not great, like the May build, and there is often a long delay responding to the power button, especially shortly after power-up, but the build seems pretty solid.
Casting isn't finding anything to cast to in the most recent build. Camera worked fine.
New build available (Aug 4) as seen at ROM's dl page.
Bluetooth pairing now working for me on last release
Hi installed this ROM in clean maner but i got intermitent issue with sim card. Not sure if it is only sim issue or reboot but phone ask my pin code.
Looks like @voidz777 is the maintainer for RR Pie as well:

okay so to fix this you will have to repartition your system.

Repartitioning is the fix to error 70 while flashing gapps as well as error 7.

Thank you for the tip, I followed the thread and was able to install RR 7 without any trouble. This might not be the right place to ask, but would you have any info on how to install SuperSU on RR 7, or is there perhaps another root method that we must use? Thanks in advance, I can't seem to find information on it anywhere and rather than continuing to bang my head against the wall I thought I'd ask.

Just ordered razer phone 2 looking for custom os instructions.

So from what i gathered TWRP doesnt work yet on the razer phone 2 and lineage os doesnt have a build for this phone yet i gotta ask what is available for modding razer and what is the step by step to make that happen. i seen some instructions but other than root there isnt much to do.

TWRP works just fine on this device. It's installed when you fastboot flash arter97 kernel and it works perfect. He just updated it to r10. Good luck!!
Edit: as far as ROMs look around in this forum you'll find a couple of different ones in the same section as arter97 :good:
which one do you suggest? i dont see much of a selection.

Right now there really aren't any, although there are a few in development, such as AOSP. I think the initial high price, specialized hardware & relative unpopularity has not helped attract any serious development.
I've noticed that ROM development has decreased significantly in the last few years. I remember the days of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus & the HTC Evo 4G where it seemed as if there was a new ROM released every week. I think its because (a) recent Android operating systems are offering greater customization out of the box, & (b) with the new A/B partitioning scheme, it makes ROM development more difficult.
Cancel your order. Get your money back. This phone while it is awesome at gaming and has a great screen. The OS is ****ty to say the least. I have had more issues with it freezing up. Not wanting to download apps from the play store. Not allowing me to install apps that I have already downloaded on my device. Now it's showing up as the Asus Rog II. This phone is the biggest heaviest piece of **** I've ever had. I promise you if everyone knew the issues this phone has you couldn't give it away free.

Mine showed as in rog 2 the last time I reloaded the OS. It's because it searches for "phone 2" and randomly guesses. No biggie, just fix it in the settings. No issues here from playstore, if you do it's common on every Android phone and fixable by clearing the data from the app. Maybe you should reflash the stock firmware? I don't see why you would call this phone ****ty. It's basically running AOSP stock except some theming from Razer. I fixed some freezing issues by reseating the Sim and SD card that I have. This thing rocks, just saying.
I've cleared the play stores cache, data, and dalvic in every method imaginable. Even google play services. I've restored backups, flashed stock .imgs, and flashed the stock odex Ron and the deodexed rom. It doesn't start failing to install play store apps till after I initially install most the apps I normally use then a while later when I think of one I forgot I'll go and try to install. That's when it starts messing up. If I watch a video threw some websites built in player on the webpage I'm viewing... about 15 to 20 seconds into the video everything but sound freezes. And will not correct itself. I have to hold the power button till it reboots. Only videos I can watch without issue is from the YouTube app. It's ridiculous. I've unlocked, rooted, and crack flashed tons of roms on all of my pixel and Nexus devices without any issue besides the random freeze. Which can be quickly fixed by toggling the screen on and off. This **** is ridiculous. So over this phone.
matt that might be just you i havent experienced any issues with this phone whatsoever.

can you provide more info on this A/B partition? id love to see what customizable stuff i can do with this.

The freezing is due to a bug in Google Chrome. All you have to do to fix this issue is roll back the app version to 72 because version 76 doesn't work on our RP2.
Edit: uncheck auto update
Only freeze I had so far was with the infamous switch switch to the tele lens. Not a single other issue with software.
Other question, if you put the display at 120hz, and you scroll something, does it 'feel' like your finger sticks to text/icons?
I mean, is there no delay like you normally would have at 60hz?
On the Oneplus 7 Pro the 90hz is already a big improvement (less delay) but 120 should really be kickass... anyone?

Take this with a grain of salt, as I just got the RP2, but its the most responsive, "sticky" feeling Android phone I've used. 120hz is like night and day to me.
On a related note, Firefox Fenix with webrender enabled feels significantly more responsive than Chromium atm, as it seemingly renders the whole page instead of stuttering as you scroll like Chrome.

So are you on the global version? If so let it update to MR2 and fastboot flash boot arter97 r12 and you'll be just fine.
Which version are you running then to get stuck on boot logo?
Edit: if you want to stay on MR1 then flash arter97 r11
i tried updating to mr2 but says installation failed.
all i do is
faatboot flash boot kernal.img?
I just rooted MR2 to show you. It took me less than 5 minutes to do the whole process of fastboot flashing kernel booting straight into TWRP recovery which is included then installing magisk immediately rebooting into system and updated magisk. Done

My only question is, which version zip of magisk did you use in TWRP to flash? 20 or the latest beta? I'm rooted now with a modded boot.img that someone else used the canary/latest beta. Just don't want to screw myself and end up having to flash mr1 again then taking the update.

It is slow, slow, slow...

Hi guys,
I'm a bit concerned about my mi8. Since several weeks now the phone is getting so slow to boot, even into recovery mode !
For exemple, today before starting to see the havoc logo spinning I count more than 20 spins. Months ago it took only 5 or 6, 2 weeks ago : more than 8... Etc.
When phone is started first apps tha usualy open really fast (Viper4fx, gsam battery monitor, magisk notifications) are so slow to open. Some other apps same thing the moment I open them.
What do you think about that ? At first I thought my battery is dead. It charges as fast as usual. Discharging is like before I'd way. Not worst for sure So I hope Its nor that.
I'm using battery charge limit (the app, nor from havoc sertings) to stop at 81% and charge it always when the minimum reaches 40%. So for battery life I think I'm doing things well.
I'm still on pie. Please, see the attached picture to look at my version.
I'm wondering what could cause this big issue.
I'm used my make lot of backups with twrp 3.3.1-1. Sometimes 2 per days, sometimes none in 2 or 3 days and so from the day I unlocked the phone and installed my first and only rom : havoc. Sure I installed several updates but no other ROM and I stopped updating it cause it worked really as I expect it should. So...
Also, making twrp backups are Soooo slow. Generaly it tooks depending of the size, between 90 sec and 140. Now it takes more than 6 min !!
So before doing a last backup and do anything I wanted to ask what you all think about that before doing a clean install update/upgrade.
Do you think it worth the try ?
I tried to clear caches (both) in twrp. Nothing :/
I'm afraid I killed my phone memory or battery. Don't really know.
Last thing, maybe an important one but don't know why it would... I installed notify & fitness and sleep as Android for my mi band 4 and I noticed my phone getting slow during this period. About N&F it was on 12.27.2019.
The firmware was updated way after that issue... And of course I cleaned all app caches manualy, not using some weird app to do the job.
Sorry me for this long SOS, and please forgive my bad english. I'm starting to being crazy. OK, the phone works but oooh boy, Its slow.
Cheers
Your rom software is out of date. if you truly want the best experience on a daily basis. There is no doubt in my mind that Xiaomi.EU is still the absolute best experience overall.
It is light years better than the Global stock Rom, all of the bloat has been removed and it has some of the Pixel AOSP features integrated into the Rom. but yes it's still miui. For me that is a good thing because I am a fan. It sounds like you have never tried Xiaomi.EU so give it a shot. I guarantee, that if you keep it installed for a few days, you will not want anything else unless you are just bored. Wait until the new update comes out, it should be late today or tomorrow. by the way, you will average about 7.5 -8.5 hours SOT.
On the other hand, if you are content with Havoc, then migrate to the latest, Its pretty great but the battery SOT time is bad right at 4 hours. This can be improved by changing the kernel. I tested the LawRun_x5.0-60hz kernel and it improves SOT to 5.5 hours, and the OS gennnerally runs better. Other Roms are also good, but lack the abundance of features that Havoc has. A comparable heavily feature rich rom is CRDroid.
If you want to stay on your current rom, then clean your caches, and at least upgrade the kernel. That alone may be enough to improve your recent performance. i dont think you phone is going bad. You likely just have some corruption, or too many processes running in the background.
@tsongming Hi and cheers for replying.
To start, I forget to mention that I'm using a global version.
That being said, I did clean all caches including from all my apps. Manualy of course.
I did use Xiaomi MIUI for very long time. Since I got my first Redmi Note 4. As you well said, I did switch to custom ROMs for what you said.
Regarding SOT... And the reason why I didn't update anything on my Mi8 its because with this version of havoc and this kernel. Gsam bat monitor tells me now : 9h41 (5h58 Max) and before my issue it was 11h !
So, to answer you : before asking here I also trying to update the Rev kernel but lot of things didn't work anymore. Like unlock the phone with my fingers and I think its pretty much normal as Havoc as evolved so kernel did the same and is not compatible with older version I think. At least, mine...
Honestly I tried lot of things to make my havoc super speed, smooth with a great battery and I was happy with that
I do hope I answered to all your questions.
I don't know what to do cause I'm not 100% sure that starting from clean MIUI or custom rom will fix it. What if not ? I'll "forced" to reinstall "everything" (I'm aware of backup apps but dont wanna use them) even if I saved all important stuffs
And if I badly revert to the last MIUI (I never reinstalled MIUI after a custom ROM. I know there is good tuto, but...) I could break it and I'll loose everything. For now it works, slowly OK ^^' but I rather that than taking a risk and found what is the cause of my problem.

The current version of Havoc already uses the Revolution kernel, and its part of the current problem so use something else. The Law kernel that I mentioned is extremely good. but so are the others latest release such as Mipa and Twisted. and no fingerprint issues with these kernels.
As a longtime user you do know that anytime you switch the kernel that you should remove all passkeys, screenlocks, face unlock etc.? This could explain the slowness, you have encryption issues.
Android 10 is much improved over pie, except for the battery 11 hours SOT is unheard of on Android 10. Except for 1 guy claiming 11 hours on the ION rom. I tried the rom and it is good. but I am only getting 7 hours Sot, and the Rom is like Lineage, just the basics. No fingerprint issues.
You truly need a full clean install, including formatting storage. just backup your files first.
Xiaomi Miui? Did you mean Xiaomi.EU? if not Xiaomi.EU , then you really should try it, you wouldn't know from a past experience. This is Miui 11 on Android 10 and its flawless.
thx again @tsongming
Yep, I note all what you said to me. But to be honest last year anytime I switched from kernels to kernels I never had to reset screenlock etc. Last year cause as I said once I found the kernel which suits me I stuck with it.
So I can state its note related to that cause I didn't change it since month trust me, just tried the last kernel one or week ago to be sure if it was the cause or not. Just installed and uninstalled apps since.
look at this screenshot you'll see what I meant about SOT which was better month ago. :/ Maybe I didn't explain well...
I'm not against trying any roms including xiaomi.eu perhaps (I do have links for this I think but any link is appreciated just in case. I just download the lastest stable 11 from xiaomi.eu if its what you have in mind) but I want to be sure if it'll fix what I'm facing. You know ?
I'm afraid that doing a clean install with any rom won't fix my beautiful Mi8 ^^

You posted a question asking for help, but then you dont want to try anything because you tried things before. Yes, its true that Magisk is sometimes persistent, but it depends on the release. it is safer to remove the passkeys.
But if you really think about it, what would cause the phone to cool down, ignore the battery stats especially from Gsam it's often very wrong, I use it too, for years and in your case you are getting good SOT because you have a zero % for the phone. It's almost like a Sim card isn't installed? Every rom will provide extremely fantastic SOT when a sim card isn't being used. If you have an active sim card then something is wrong with the monitoring because Gsam is showing 0%, it should show something even if you havent made a phone call for days.
Do whatever you want it's your phone:
I still think that you have encryption or corruption issues and its bad enough for your to make a post about it. FYI : The battery dying doesnt slow down the phone. Yes, some stock roms, notably Apple intentionally by choice changed the kernel core settings automatically on aging batteries. Hence the huge controversy a couple of years ago, that isn't happening to you.
A dying battery doesn't slow down the phone, evn cold solder joints do not slow down the phone, they keep a phone from booting to system and to recovery. The only thing left is corruption or thermals, which on this phone good luck editing thermals because they are mostly encrypted. The remaining possibility is corruption, post your log files and lets see what's actually going on.
Again, what would slow down your phone even in recovery?
It's always thermals, or corruption. Slow to start up, even in recovery.: We can rule out thermals unless your battery temp or cores temps are extremely high. This leaves corruption. if its slow while booted into the system, then you may have apps or processes crashing and you are not aware of it. If that is true, then eventually the phone may stop booting up altogether. If its thermals causing overheating you should truly resolve this issue immediately before actual heat damage occurs. Did you ever flash display refresh rate mods? If so your DTBO partition could be the issue....corruption.
Use this program to provide an app list : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.onyxbits.listmyapps ( Weed out any unknown programs that you may not realise are installed. Post the list along with complete logs. Once you see these crashes, that I am sure the logs will show: Do as I suggested earlier: wipe and "format" your phone. Then later use best practices and remove passwords before changing kernels
Cheers. I'll try what you suggest.
I might have some questions in the future regarding format and some other things.
Never flashes display refresh rate and never noticed any overheat issue on my phone.
Sure, I'll do something like you said as soon as possible.
PS : you said "before remove passwords". You mean in the parameters of the phone like schema/diagram, pin, etc ?
Cheers

You could remove password under data/system/locksettings.bin But it's better to just go the settings//security/ *.* < remove whatever you have setup : prints and face unlock first before, pattern or pin.
Another good practice for Android 10, should you go there is :
Extract the boot image from the rom
Place it inside the downloads folder.
When ready to flash root, patch to the boot image first, ( this links the existing system binary credentials into the boot image)
Boot to recovery flash boot to boot
Then flash magisk > then boot to system and you will have no issues whatsoever with root.
Afterwards, if you decide to flash different kernel, Magisk is more likely to stay stay persistent.
I hope everything is good from this point forward take care.
@tsongming Thanks for reminding me the locksettings.bin thing because I used it once on my old phone and I forgot that.
Never installed 10 yet. But I take carefuly your advice.
Hello!
Did you fix it? Because it's happening to my Mi 8 too. It's exactly the same issue, the phone takes a long time to boot up, to open apps and even to boot into TWRP
I have that issues on my mi8
I had this problem with me before and I solved it by flashing the last official ROM, Now the problem happened to me again and I do not know what is the reason behind it @tsongming

I recently had some issues with my phone as well. I was able to get my phone back to normal functioning by flashing the latest stable fastboot rom using the flashall.bat method. (dipper_global_images_V11.0.3.0.QEAMIXM_20200118.0000.00_10.0_global)
I kept everything stock for a few days even recovery, to ensure once that everything was back to normal.
Next I flashed the latest OrangeFox beta recovery, and I highly recommend the latest beta build over any other version of Recovery, it will decrypt when official Twrp will not. It is now more up to date than the LR Team version, and all of the bugs have been solved by DarthJabba. In fact, he even added a script to work around poorly designed startup scripts, which are suprisening not consistent between the wide range of custom roms for the Mi8.
Today, I am still using Orange Fox, ( OrangeFox-R10.1_002-Beta-dipper) and the latest stable Magisk. I no longer have freezing, unexpected shutdowns, slow starts, or poor battery life. My issue was without a doubt corruption, and bugs with the mid february version of Xiaomi.EU. The last 2 releases have been solid.
Since this weekend I face the same problem. Every action seems to bit slower than before. And I don't know what I did that resulted in this problem. The last thing I remember I installed was the new Miui12 live backgrounds. But I deleted them again.
I'm on stock since some weeks.
But I don't want to install everything from the beginning again.
Do you know how to solve the problem without wiping everything?
Edit: As I think about it, it seems as if the caching of the apps doesn't work as good as before and the killing of apps is too aggressiv.
But what did affect it?
Edit: I found the solution for my problem.
With Android Battery Historian was able to find the process that made the trouble.
It was the Miui wallpaper carousel app. After deleting it the problems were gone.

Hi guys,
I'm a bit concerned about my mi8.
Some other apps same thing the moment I open them.

it's a hardware issue and it's going to keep coming back, i spent the last two months trying to resolve it but i gave up.
it seems that UFS chip malfunctions on a lot of F1 and mi8 phones.

Hello!
Did you fix it? Because it's happening to my Mi 8 too. It's exactly the same issue, the phone takes a long time to boot up, to open apps and even to boot into TWRP

Sorry for repling only now guys...
Thx to all who proposed to solve my issue, I will tell you what I did to fix my mi 8.
I did a crystal clean flash :
- downloaded & installed last miui image using miflash
- used "clean all" at the bottom right (be careful to not choose something else like "lock boot loader ")
- then you'll need to flash recovery (twrp), then format data by typing yes. Then copy from where you want your custom rom, flash it flash magisk and boot.
I did this several months from now and my phone is like just new!
No issue at all since.
I guess installing lot of different kernels like I did before must have broken something and hopefully this could help if you dont have more serious issues.
Ps: battery is more than ok and there is no hardware problem.
Thx again to Dexer125 for his help!

I can confirm this.
I have been unrooted on stock for a few months now and have had no problems since then.
Hello, I have the slow issue (Androbench app with poor performances) after several dates when I have rooted my phone: Mi8 Chinese version with stock global ROM.
After unroot the phone, several days after, the phone works fine with Androbench app with good performances.
I need root my phone to use Magisk hide for Google Pay in order to avoid the Google block for contactless payment.
Can anybody help me about the understanding of this behaviour?
I do not know the reason why the phone is slow after root and why the phone works fine after several days after rooting.
Thanks in advance. Regards

Hi,
Mine has hardware issue (rooted).
Didn't try to unroot it if there is a difference like you describe.
Can't help you with magisk hide. I don't use it.
I have this issue with my mi 8 guys, just happened yesterday
So flashing the latest official rom via miflash is the way to fix it?

Hello, yes in my case. Sometimes, with wipe all, internal storage included, the problem it solved.
Recently I have the issue again without root: only with custom rom flashed. Several times the issue was reproduced out of my habitual site during vacances.
Thanks

Which ROM, which TWRP, which Magisk?

I've used my "sanders" for 40 months, all on stock. Now, just for fun, I'd like to root it. I haven't done this in six or seven years, but I know the drill. Question is: which version of TWRP, of Magisk, and above all, which ROM should I flash? Is there a decent 11, or should I stick to 10? Lineage, or is there a reasonable alternative? Dunno how many folks are still using this device, but thanks for any suggestions!
Right now I have, downloaded and ready to go:
twrp-installer-3.5.2_9-0-sanders
Magisk-v22-0
and one ROM
EvolutionX_5.6_sanders-11-20210408-0314-OFFICIAL
G5S plus (sanders) does not show up on the LineageOS website that I can find...what are some other options?
thanks!
Oh, and one more thing...which Gapps go with the ROM you suggest? Thx?
I use Arrow 11 Vanilla without any gapps with the latest magisk. I use this version of TWRP which is not the latest but as far as I know it's the last one to support encryption well.
It's very stable as I don't experience any bug even with my banking apps

My situation was almost identically to yours.. +3 years of stock use, and havent done fash/root almost for 8 years, know the drill but from the ages Lineage was called Cyanogenmod!....
Idk why lineage does support G5 and G5plus but no G5s (sanders)...
I just did the whole thing like 3 weeks ago...
1st step unlock bootloader via Motorola site
then i downloaded:
-TWRP (twrp-3.5.1_9-0-sanders.img)
-Magisk V22
-Lineage unofficial 17.1 (lineage-17.1-20210210-UNOFFICIAL-sanders) [i just read that LOS 18.1 was released last week, and im thinking to migrate]
-Open Gapps Pico (open_gapps-arm64-10.0-pico-20210314) [I choose pico bc lightweight and you always can download other google apps form playstore, i.e. google play games, etc.]
-Bootlogo (because unlocking bootloader changes logo to warranty warning), just search something without "N/A", i found one that i like of a lighthouse at night (V5.0DT_BL_9-3_by_4)
2nd step flash twrp via fastboot/adb
then boot from recovery (twrp) and erase/format everything (/cache,/dalvik,/system,/data, etc)
after that install from twrp (via sdcard) Lineage+gapps+logo+magisk)
boot!
it works pretty awesome with really minor glitches (in 3 weeks crashed 2 times, but maybe my fault, so not really sure...) and with full support of all device functionality (all antennas, sensors, moto actions, etc..).
The only thing that i dont like so much is that fingerprint sensor gestures for navigation works perfectly but activating it dont removes the touch navigation buttons, and from menu you cant hide it and use gesture navigation in the bottom of screen (like android 10/11) but you cant (or almost i cant find it how) turn off touchscreen navigation for using only FP nav..
I hope this pseudo-guide helps you!
PS. I cant add links bc new account, but i did everything using this Xda subforum (sanders) guides and download links...

Many thanks! I hope to get to this in the next few days and will post. Do let me know if you upgrade to Lineage 18.1 and how it goes. And yeah, I remember when it was CM, too, that's what I used! Regards

I started having GPS problems ~3 yeas ago (STOCK phone)* and searching on lenovo support forums i find that is a somewhat common issue (maybe factory problem) that does not affect all devices.
The symptoms are that i.e. during navigation GPS works fine, and suddenly lost gps signal, it can last minutes, hours or days, and then come back like nothing happened and continues working normally.
Apparently this has to do with some antenna failure/bad connection/idk.
The "solution" is to bang (not super hard tho) the phone in a flat surface, like on the table, or what i always do is hit it against the steering wheel of the car, and every time work like magic and the gps signal comes back instantly.
I know this may sound strange, but for me works...
*Last month using custom ROM the problem persisted and also the solution, so im pretty confident that is a hardware issue..
