Weird Honor Play model pie-l29 - Honor Play Questions & Answers

Hello everyone.
Got this honor play from a friend but in the about phone section things are very weird.
I think this is an internal sample maybe?
It says it has the emui 5.1
Android 7
2gbs of ram
1920x1080p res
32gb of ram
The phone definitely has Android 8 and 4gbs of ram and 64Gb of space and higher reps screen.
Thing is I can't download some apps from play store like cpu z and it also has the beta club thing.
Have you ever seen something like this?

What would prevent them from sending you a fake? Some new law of physics? They might have received a fake themselves. A customer might have bought a phone and returned the fake which has been then sent on to you.
You're suggesting it's not fake, but "what do you mean? It's got the wrong hardware and software".

It doesn't make a sense. I'm pretty sure that specification is correctly. When I check "about phone" there is written "Internal storage - 32 GB", but when I check overlap "Storage" there is 64 GB ROM. When I connect phone with my computer I have a new storage +50 GB.
I played PUBG on this phone and it's works better than on my Honor 9.

Have you tried actually writing and then reading back data and validating it? I've seen dodgy devices (ram, phones etc) which report, say, 16 gigs, but that's because they've been hacked to do so but you can't actually use more then 2 gigs.

It's sample device running test OS, if you got from Honor Event go to any Huawei Service Center and they can flash it for you.

Lol it's fake??
Don't look on box
And it's 32Gb ram or ROM?
Lol 32gb ram is impossible ?
Honor play is launched with Oreo also try installing some apps like cpu z, and others if you can't download from Play Store then download from apkmirror or similar site And share info.

So it wasn't a fake at all
It had wrong firmware. The specs and hardware was 100%legit.i checked in with an honor employee.
All is well now.

This is because that is demo or test device..I had same on my 8X and had to debrand it. is your bootlaoder unlocked?
now i have the same PIE_l29 model as yours with same about phone section.

Xiaomi Mi3 - Suspected fake

Hi.
I have very little knowledge about Xiaomi phones but just got a Mi3.
I do unfortunately think it's fake however, and would like some sort of confirmation of that before contacting the seller.
- The USB-cable have the "MI"-logo which I understand is fake?
- The USB-adapter is labeled "inpei" and is a direct Samsung knock-off, it ever has the same model-nr: ETA-U90EWE as the Samsung charger, lol!
- The box says tenaa.com.cn which I saw in some Youtube video should mean that it's a fake.
- CPU-Z reports correct values, but when I do the "Online validation" the numbers are different.
For example: 960x540 resolution, 1GB RAM, 4GB flash, it does however show Snapdragon 800 here too, which seems strange? Why would they put such an expensive SoC in a cheap fake? Or is that value faked on a "deeper level" which still comes back faked through online validation?
What is however strange:
When I input S/N and IMEI on the MIUI-page the phone appears legit.
"This is a 3 Unicom version of millet phone pure white 16GB
Receiving Location:Shenzhen, Guangdong
Order Time:2014-05-03 15:21:34
Receiving the above information with your personal information does not match, please confirm whether the official channels of the purchase."
- It feels high quality and actually quite snappy.
- Xiaomi market and everything else seems to work just fine.
- It gets around 36000 in Antutu
Could someone PLEASE help my confirm once and for all that this is infact a fake, so that I can contact the seller ASAP! Thanks in advance.

I mean fake ones wouldnt be QHD, would be very slow, low benchmark obviously and it should never be able to run jelly bean.. if you go to about phone, you'll see software info, status, battery info, they should have N920 in them (specially baseband). Download an app like hardware info for more information about the device. But from what you described, it looks to be fake.

The baseband leads to a website called 'CloneROM' which doesn't seem promising either.

Changing the IMEI and serial number will be dependent on the hardware, a custom ROM will not change those.

You will obviously state what issues you have with the device.
That the device is fake.
It's certainly 100% fake. The site for CloneRom seems to be made for Chinese fake phone makers, What they all have in common is they use a octocore MediaTek (Which Samsung would NEVER use)
https://www.clonerom.com/category/galaxy-note-5
Also if you look at the base band date, it's from 2014. The Note 5 was officially released in Aug or so 2015 which is a dead give away it's fake. Also the IMEI is fake and could actually be blocked by carrier as there could be duplicates with that IMEI so they'll just block the phone so it doesn't take down the network. Each IMEI needs to be UNIQUE.
Go get your money back ASAP and buy a REAL Note 5 or Galaxy S7
Tell the guy you checked out the CPU, It's not meant to be a MediaTek (Only Exynos).
It's Running Kitkat instead of Lollipop.
It's got a bad Serial number and also bad IEMI (which is the worst thing)
stab him :| (after you take your money back)
end of the story

How to get Netflix in HD and HDR in Mate 10/Pro

I managed to get Netflix HD (specially HD because with a 2k display and not being able to get hd content is stupid) and HDR in my Mate 10 (not pro) by changing the device model to the mate 10 RS porshe design NEO-L29, also works changing it to Mate 10 pro BLA-L09. This also may work for the Non supported Mate 10 Pro phones, Netflix only support officially the NEO-L29 and BLA-L09, thats it says in the website.
You need to have magisk root, with safetynet pass in green and modify this file:
/product/hw_oem/ALP-L29/prop/local.prop (mine is ALP-L29 but it might be ALP-AL00, ALP-L09... Or whatever brand you have, check in settings about phone.. So edit the file for your device model)
See the screenshots attachment for more details.
So basically change all the words ALP-L29 (or whatever is your model) in that file to NEO-L29.
Reboot and go to Netflix, which now appears in the playstore and can be installed.
Go to any of the Netflix originals like black mirror or stranger things and you should see the word HDR next to the title.
I don't know if the hdr really works on our device's screen in Netflix but defenitley Netflix now recognises my Mate 10 as a porshe design and as a supported device.
What I can assure is that HD now works because before doing this change, I downloaded an episode of black mirror and the size was 330 mb but after the change the size now is 770 mb(if I change to NEO) and 550 (if I change to BLA-L09) and obviously it looks sharper...
HDR seems to work too, The shows with hdr support seem to look better than the ones where it says HD only, the blacks seem darker and more saturation but I cannot be 100% sure... ?
Keep in mind that not all the Netflix content is in hdr only the shows original from Netflix and only some of them.
Hope it works for you and let me know if you see the HDR improvement, specially in the PRO device because of the AMOLED.

Yes man I know how you feel, thats why Ive been investigating untill i found how to fix this problem, But yeah you need Root for it, If I buy a phone super expensive is because i want the best feature, it very sad how these companies work.
I think the BLA-L09 is european and the BLA-L29 is like more international. So one would expect that the international version is what should be supported and not the euroean. Anyway, It´s not only huawei fault, its also netflix´s, why all these restricctons? Every phone with at least a 720p screen and google widevine drm support should be able to get HD support. All these exclusivities netflix is doing with some phones is very discriminatory.
Anyway, if you really consume a lot of netflix, i would recommend you to root and get HD support for your phone.

I don't wanna be that guy, but people need to stop saying 2k display... 2k is 2000. It makes absolutely no sense to say that.
2k resolution is a slightly larger fullhd cinematic movie recording format (just like 4k compared to Ultra HD)
2k is like 2048x1080 so if one of these phones has close to 2k screen it is the fullhd+ mate10pro.
Saying 2k is insulting your device.
No offence meant lol

Hahah don't worry, I say 2k because everyone one else knows it as that, few knows it as QHD. I normally like to call it just 1440p like 1080p, 720p as that's a more precise term...

S/N decoding / How to figuring out the manufacturing date?

Hi guys!
How can I decode the S/N number to get to know the mfr date of the device?
It came with 10.0 + 2.1(UI) out of the box; is it a refurb. model?
It feels a brand new one, got from a mobile-operator (Telekom). IMEI check said 2020-07-21(edit: corrected the date) its a bit unbelievable me.(Is the S10 series still under production? Wow)
edit: *#12580*369# --> RF.call: 20200720

Install the phone info app from play store and it should tell you the manufacturing date on the first page
edit: the app also has a "Refurbishment Check" which you may use to check to confirm your device's identity

This + the recently announced 3 main version upgrade for their phones (that means S10 will still get android 12) make them way way consumer friendlier than anything before.
Changing from a P20 to an S10 now really feels like a pretty awsomse move.

thanks, i'll check out the app. i've also seen 3 major upgrades for 10+.
the problem with the 3rd upgrade is the s10+ has ancient hardware by that time.
Ancient? I dont think so this hw is 1,5 years old, the almost 3 years old Snap 845 is still a solid chipset for example if u are not gaming all day on your phone.
Nowdays chipsets are only evolving via benchmark perfomances the real speed difference through the system quicknes and stability is almost unnoticable for an average user if the system upgrade has been made optimized correctly.

i said 3 year old ancient hardware, nothing about comparing the 855 to evolving chipsets.
