Pixel3 camera for LG V30discuss - LG V30 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Oh, guys, I want to use Google's new pixel3 camera. I believe many people want to get this feature, but developers don't seem to like our mobile phone. I hope to communicate with you.

the first ports ive actually gotten to work and take photos/video just started being posted this past week or two.
MGC_6.1.021_Potter_v4-san1ty-final.apk
and
bsg-test-8.1.apk
both seem to have everything working EXCEPT slow motion, which works fine on a v5.x pixel 2 apk.
The best one for V30 though, at this pretty much alpha releasing time is
MGC_6.1.013_B-S-G-based_v.0.4_TlnNeun_Fu24-Tele.apk
This one has everything but slomo working and is the only one ive seen so far that allows use of both rear cameras (switch between them by long pressing the icon lower left of your screen). Photo/Video capture works, also night sight, portrait mode, panorama, photosphere, AR stickers and google lens are all functional for me on this apk.

Also a disclaimer; I am not a photographer, and my V30 is rooted and has a few gcam fixes also running on it. I honestly dont know if that makes a difference anymore, but If your results are different, there are separate factors involved other than just picking out a random ported apk.

With all 3 Apps i can sadly only use wide angle camera.
Long pressing the Icon is indeed doing sth. but it returns to the wide angle cam. So simply it doesn't change camera ID.
On cstarks GCam Mod it works.
Tested on DotOS and Pie GSI.
Which GCam fixes do YouTube have installed @syndre ?

Finally! Thank you so much, dude, for all your efforts. We can wait forever but seems like no one is gonna port the Pixel 3 camera to our device. We can rely on our own community.

Just tried this app. Unfortunately, a long press to the switcher does not make sense and I still have the wide-angle camera being active instead. Can you please advise on this matter. I have my LG V30 not-rooted running on Android 8 stock.

Same here, longpressing the bottom left icon simply resets to camera, no camera change unfortunately.

This is really thank you very much.
But I seem to have the same problem as them.::laugh::good:

Same here, long press doesn't switch wide rear camera.
I think we'll get that working soon, thanks for the info and fu24 for the devolpment!

Portrait mode seems to use the regular camera. So this seems like it should be fixable...

Unroot LG V30+

Will be waiting for another stable version of Gcam from cstark27 due to lots of reboots caused by the MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1d_fu24-01f.apk. It damages my LG V30 even when I don't use the app my phone started crashing. Had to uninstall this one.

MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1d_fu24-01g.apk (fu24, 2018-12-19, normal/wide angle, changelog)
this one can switch between the rear lenses fine, but is really buggy and still force restarts the phone when you try to use certain modes.
Fixed viewfinder lag in Portrait/Photo on LG G7 (thanks for the tip san1ty), and wide/normal versions.
Based off BSG's MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1d
Has different lib options which reduce black crush, ZSL doesn't work on LG G7 and setting HDR+ to Enhanced seems a bit more stable.

These two are separate camera apps that each use a different rear lense. I can confirm they do infact use separate rear lenses.
The only thing definitely not working on my V30 with these is slow motion. Everything else works on both apps (as far as I can tell).

These two are similiar to the first two linked. They both work. See cstark27's post for what the difference between them is. I am not really a photographer I don't know much about the technical stuff.
They take photos and videos and night sight works, also the panorama and photo sphere toys work. I can live with that

The 6.1 cameras crash for me. US998 Stock Android 8.0.

Is there a guide for porting the GCam for first timers?
Fairly proficient in LG V30, but never ported an app over.
I'd really like the check out the night vision everyone';s raving about, and also get some of the focu and diffusion under control.
Can anyone direct me to a resource or thread that explains it?
Thanks.

using cstark27's 2018'12'20 normal lense app release...
I'll attach screenshots.. bear with me, I'm on mobile.
ok, here's six photos
all six photos are taken from the same spot looking up at the same dark staircase, all within 10 minutes of each other.
The FIRST THREE (1-3/6) 3 photos taken using cstark27's LGN1_MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1d.apk released 2018-12-20. Flash mode on, then regular automatic mode with no flash, then with pixel 3 night sight activated.
The first is with the flash on in regular mode, then one showing what itd look like with n9 flash, and finally what the sxme photo looks like with LG's version of "dark mode" activated
Ive attached the images to this post, and also made an Imgur album here that has better descriptions for each photo underneath them.

Nexus 6P Manual Camera recommendations

If you would like to see a video review of the app just let me know.
PROSHOT REVIEW
So I just wanna update and say that I bought all the above apps trying them out for an hour or so. I refunded them all and decided on ProShot! Below are my pros and cons of using ProShot, I'm only reviewing this one because it's the one I stuck with and liked the most
PROS
Very Beautiful UI, the buttons respond immediately to my presses and most with subtle but nice animations.
Settings are very organized, The Manual camera features are all feel accessible without feeling overwhelming or cluttering the User interface.
Hidden Manual Focal Length, It comes in handy since the Nexus 6P doesn't always know how to lock onto the focus properly
Custom Settings Presets, haven't used it yet but you can have 2 presets for your custom settings.
Easily Crop Photos, the settings lives at the top of the screen change between different aspect ratios (which I use often)
The work space, I mentioned before the wonderful UI but you also get a amount of space to work with because of all of the transparent elements in the User Interface.
Special features, Exposure bracketing, timelapse, and a cool one (Light Painting) light painting is still in beta and is extremely buggy but once it shifts out of beta I could see it being my favorite feature!
Cons
The Auto Focus, tapping the screen to auto focus does not work currently in manual mode
Manual Exposure, I believe the dev posted hear saying it was a google bug but right now the feature simply does not work.
The Gallery, there's a gallery button in the corner but the images are very slow to load. Use your personal gallery app.
Updates, The app is a little slow to receive updates. I would love for Light Paint to come out of beta.
Final Thoughts
The app is pretty amazing and very polished. One of the most polished of all the Manual Camera Apps I have tested. It has enough features to keep you satisfied in the mean time while waiting for the updates to come. I mentioned has a beautiful transparent UI which allows your much more working space than other apps. The special features are fun to tinker with and with time lapse you and video recording you don't have to download a separate app to do those things.

Was super excited with the Camera2 API back in the Nexus 5 days
Now that I have a Nexus 6P, what are the best Manual Camera apps? I'm mostly lean towards UI & features but the question is, what do you guys recommend for manual camera picture taking goodness?
Thanks!

Hi! I'm the dev of ProShot. HDR+ is not available yet, and HDR only works on certain devices (mostly Samsung and Motorola from what I've seen). I'm working on my own version of HDR, but don't have a solid timeline on when it will be ready.

Proshot. If you have kids running around it's the best. Proshot is the only one I've found that can do shutter priority. Every other camera2 compatible app I've seen forces manual iso with manual shutter (full manual mode). Proshot can do manual shutter with auto iso. I think it's a hack bc it doesn't always hit the set shutter speed perfectly but it works well and gets close. Decent interface too.

What do you mean it doesn't always work? If the shutter is a few ticks above or below the selected value it's likely a rounding error in the displayed EXIF. Say you choose 1/25 but it appears as 1/24. The actual value is probably 1/24.999.
Alternatively, say you choose a shutter speed like 1/2000. These phones aren't precise and the image sensor might expose the scene for 1/1997s. That value is stored in the EXIF not as a fraction, but as nanoseconds: 500751ns. ProShot's camera roll then tries to convert that value back to some human-readable fraction, and through some guesswork and approximation might display 1/1989s.
Hope that clears it up!
Can you please explain what setting are you using in proshot to get the best results when the subject is moving fast like kids or dogs?

There are some limits on the demo version; you can use full manual controls but the pics are watermarked. I wish I didn't have to do this, but man piracy is really bad on Android. The app took almost a year of my life from me so it's sad to see so many people stealing.
The current demo is a bit out of date and buggy. I'll be releasing a new version tomorrow fixing a lot of lingering issues (as well as bug fixes for the main app).

It's going to depending on your lighting, but throwing ProShot in either Manual, C1, or C2 with ISO set to AUTO and a shutter between 1/60-1/100 will do a great job of freezing motion so you won't get blurry faces. If you're indoors in a dimly lit space dropping to 1/30 is probably the lowest I'd go, though you will get some blur then. And always keep flash off

Probably what I explained, the rounding errors can be confusing haha. The demo update will probably go live late Tuesday night (USA time) so I'd say hold off til Wednesday to get the best impression :good:
I tried to keep the permissions as minimal as possible, but I might add analytics soon (simple data points like does anyone use the Light Painting mode? [to help guide my dev priorities]). That will require internet, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to add that in a way that doesn't make people upset

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Razer Phone 2 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i found the stock camera app to be pretty poor coming from a pixel 2 like it was almost dealbreaking. I also have an essential phone that needed a google cam port to be usable. So i went to the gcam repo and spent a good hour trying all the versions from arnova, cstark etc. and i found that the only one that actually works is from BSG for the Mi 8 and the quality is night and day. i posted on reddit about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/razerphone/comments/9rv2ed/google_cam_port_quality_vs_stock_app_vs_pixel_2/
meh
There is no 60 frames-per-second 1080p video nor is there 16 by 9 aspect ratio for photos they are also blurry, the zoom is okay though I guess.
https://imgur.com/gallery/5tkoGjG
Picture taken with it, does an amazing job at medium-low lighting
Razer's photo app does pretty good, minus not having slow motion, beating all my previous phones in clarity, quality and ability to take photos of an always moving 2 year old with very minimal, if any, motion blur, and in low light without flash and no visible grainyness. But to boost your cameras performance, Gcam works wonders (slow motion still does not work) Beware of file sizes of videos, though... An 8 minute 4k video of my daughter was a whopping 2.5gb... and when you take photos at the same time you're recording, they come out much darker than just taking a photo by itself. Photo quality is outstanding, taking bright, clear photos in low light with no motion blur what so ever, and with no visible grainyness or loss of color accuracy. People with high end iPhones and Samsung devices were amazed at the photo quality of the Razer 2 compared to their phones...so a big plus for this phone. I have NO idea what people we're talking about when they said the camera was crap... As far as the photo album app, I think the one that comes with the phone totally sucks, it's the Google albums app, which for me is over complicated, I have no idea how to browse it, or organize it, or create folders, or move them to folders...so, I downloaded a very simple, easy to use gallery app that fits all my needs. VERY simple to understand, I can move things around, create new folders, etc. If you're interested in it, here's the link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro
It reminds me of the simpler album apps that came with earlier versions of Android Galaxy phones, which is what I'm used to.
EDIT- 10/16/19
Finally found a camera app that makes full use of the camera. Gcam
Version 6.2.030. greatly increased clarity, amazing low light performance, night mode, multiple resolutions to choose from, hdr, hdr+, 4k video, bokke effect in portrait mode, which makes a HUGE improvement in photo dramatic effect when taking pictures of people, and most importantly, to me at least, VERIFIED WORKING SLOW MOTION AND TIME LAPSE... Which for some STUPID REASON Razer has OMITTED from even their latest software update, posted only a couple days ago. Link below for the gcam mod.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rAgBKJ9ZixrsfP2_29HHJabm-2g9etLY/view?usp=drivesdk
I cannot recommend you use this gcam mod enough! It's EXACTLY what this phone was missing all along
Not my work, BTW. Simply pointing a link at someone else's work.

Hey, a Razer Phone 2-specific version of GCam was uploaded to https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/ the other day. I downloaded it, and it's so much faster than the MI8 version. It's bloody quick. No more loading ring when I'm taking a picture. Just a flash as the picture is taken.
The quality is "okay" but not that good
I hope they'll do better in the future .

How do you like the Razer 2 w/gcam compared to the Pixel 2?
I just installed the RP 2 gcam from the link and only saw a lowlight/indoors performance difference while indoors. Once I went outside there was a bit of a split decision. On one hand the dynamic range of gcam was a lot better and maintained clear details in the image. There were a couple of occassions where the stock camera app took a more appealing picture. Most of the pics while outside in good natural light were almost identical; only zooming in all the way and searching would you see the difference. Again, that goes back to the dynamic range and how the apps process the images once you take the picture. At some point we need to stop splitting hairs on the most minor detail that really isn't discernable unless you zoom in 300% an search vice when you look at the normal zoom image. I have noticed however, the RP2 does over process more often than not, leading to it softening the image way too much causing a slight blur in the details. But other times it takes really good pictures.
I just uninstalled the gcam app now. I don't know what happened but was using the camera a few hours after installing and testing it out and I noticed major artifacts, color distortion and image distortion when I am looking at the screen and moving the phone around to different subjects. I also notice it having a real hard time adjusting the exposure and balance. The removal of the gcam app hasn't seemed to fix anything. I may have to reset the phone to get it functioning again.

Not bad...
I just got the phone, and knew going into it the camera was going to be bad (doubly bad considering I was coming from an LG V20!). What I didn't expect was just how bad HDR is on the stock app. It's rather laughable. The first image is a normal photo on the telephoto lens. The second photo is an HDR shot on the same lens. I plan to play around with Gcam, but HDR will never see the light of day on my stock app. Lol
Not as good as my motorola z2 force. Really, very bad! I can only play games now. . . . Maybe gaming phones can only play games.

General Initial impressions & photo samples (CN ROM)

I've used my new Mi 11 Ultra (CN rom) for over 48 hours now and just wanted to say I'm very impressed so far. It's the first time I've used a Xiaomi device in over a decade and I previously had a Huawei P40 Pro for over a year. I ordered mine from TradingShenzhen and it took 9 days in total to land on my doorstep.
Screen: Amazing. Bright in sunlight, sharp, clear and just what you'd expect from an E4 screen. They weren't kidding when they said it can max out at 1700 nits if you really wanted to set it to that. Doesn't use a LTPO panel like the S21 Ultra does which would've made it even more power efficient but I suppose you can't have everything. Also, I wouldn't call the secondary screen a gimmick, but its features are certainly very limited at present so I've just put the default clock on and left it there.
Performance: Very fast. 12GB of LPDDR5 and the cooling system seem to be doing their job well as I remember Xiaomi pointing out that the SD888 runs hot on a lot of other devices in the market during their launch event.
I ran some benchmarks as shown below for curiosity and couldn't be happier with the numbers I was able to bench on it. I know real-world situations are more important but it's interesting to see the scores imho. I don't play a lot of games but I am a heavy social media user as well as happen to use my phone for work, so I do appreciate how snappy and quick everything is.
Cameras: One of the best I've seen to date, but sometimes I've noticed it's still not always consistent and reliable. Nonetheless the mains sensor captures a lot of detail due to its sensor size in almost all scenarios. You do get a really good natural bokeh effect too when shooting subjects up close, the ultrawide angle is incredibly wide at 12mm and Night mode shots are probably the best I've seen so far. The zoom is really great even though 10x optical would've been nice to have (even night mode zoom shots are decent due to its IMX586's 1/2" sensor size).
My housemate has an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I've found her phone to just be a bit more reliable and consistent. Occasionally I need to manually turn on HDR mode too as the AI won't toggle that on or maybe I'm just used to my previous phone's 'scene optimizer' feature automatically doing that for me and this behaviour of the Mi 11 Ultra is intended.
Another thing I've noticed is that camera module itself seems to get hot easily even just from taking photos. I'm not referring to taking shots back-to-back constantly or even recording videos and the shutter speed seems to have some minor 'lag' to it too which is hard to describe which is a bit annoying.
I'm hoping some software updates and optimizations will address this issue as we are still on very early firmware where none of the recent builds have specifically mentioned camera improvements from what I've noticed.
Call reception/signal: LTE, 5G and cellular speeds seem superior to my Huawei P40 Pro and when I try putting in my SIM to an IPhone 12 Pro Max, I get higher download speeds than that too. VOLTE and WiFi calling all working as intended for my carrier (EE).
Battery life: I still haven't fully stress tested it properly but the 5000mAh battery is looking good so far. Easily 7-8 hours (YMMV) SOT with 120hz, but at FHD+ due to personal preference. I didn't buy the official Xiaomi 67w wired charger as I already have a working 65w PD 3.0 from Amazon instead which works well (got over 75% in 30mins).
Build quality/feel: Love the ceramic rear back which you don't find on most flagships nowadays and even though it weighs a hefty 239g, it just screams quality to me as I'm used to big phones even though I have medium-sized hands. The camera bump is big and it's definitely going to be a dealbreaker or dealmaker for those who either like or dislike the look. I personally don't mind it since it's so unique looking.
Overall impressions: I'm a happy user (and customer!) and look forward to a couple of software updates which I hope will iron out a few issues/bugs I've encountered. The global version would've been cool to have but after spending several hours debloating, customizing and getting used to MIUI 12, it feels great and I've got no problems staying with the CN ROM since my carrier's bands are all supported on it and Google Pay is working too.
What I like
+ Beautiful and bright Samsung E4 panel with 120hz support
+ One of the faster SD888 phones out there with less throttling problems
+ First device to use the new Samsung GN2 main sensor and it captures so much detail
+ A huge battery with support for aftermarket PD 3.0 charging (I used a RavPower 65w charger)
+ Looks and smells premium and solid all-round with the Ceramic rear back and Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back
+ MIUI 12 on the whole and its stock launcher is very speedy - I didn't need to replace it with Nova in the end
What I dislike
- Some annoying bugs/issues which I hope will be fixed soon: camera shutter button lags sometimes, the camera gets very hot quickly, my WiFi automatically goes to sleep after I turn off the screen despite turning off all battery optimization and restrictions under battery and app management settings and I can't record videos in the self-view of the secondary rear screen
- No 10x optical zoom (120x shouldn't be taken too seriously) - the 10x hybrid is still more than good enough for the most part
- Photos taken from the ultrawide's edges and corners are a bit soft and there's slightly more barrel distortion compared to my Huawei P40 Pro as well as my housemate's iPhone 12 Pro Max
- CN ROM had more junk than I expected - I had to use ADB/Fastboot Tools and SDK Platform Tools to debloat my phone and check which apps/processes were safe to remove and which were not

Thanks for your initial review. How reliable is Xiaomi for updates - especially the camera lag & heating up of the cam module? Those are serious enough issues.
Thanks!
Can you please share sample images in 2X zoom?
I can't find any. I loved the 50mm lens on the Mi 10 Pro and was wondering how well this camera handles 2X.
Thanks!!!

I've gotten about 3 updates since I bought it, mainly UI improvements and a few other quality of life changes. I'm also on the April 2021 Security patch already so I'm very happy with the pace so far.
The camera lag isn't too bad, I may have made it sound worse than it is as it doesn't always happen and seems to more of an animation/UI stutter than anything as it does end up taking the photo anyway.
Thanks for the thoughts. Great stuff.
The "shutter lag" has been discussed in a few videos, seems as you thought. It's an animation issue, the camera is actually taking the pictures quick enough.
Is there any other UK Sims you can try? Interested if the likes of ID and SKY will work with WiFi calling etc as they are the most limited usually.
Cheers.

Yes, you're right. The lag I'm seeing is not too much of a dealbreaker as I'm sure it can be fixed via an update.
I have a Vodafone UK SIM from my work iPhone I've tried it with too. Unfortunately, I don't get VOLTE or 4G+/LTE no matter what settings I try but I do get VOWIFI and 5G on it. It might be because of the firmware/modem settings from what I've heard which stops me from getting 4G+/LTE.
I also tried a BT SIM too but as that piggybacks on to EE's network, I do get VOLTE, VOWiFi, 4G+/LTE without any issues.

That's interesting. So I guess it does not bin the pixels when using 2X?
The resolution is also 12mp for the 2X zoom so either they crop from the binned original image and then upscale, or the don't bin the pixels and then shrink the image or something..
Looks good. I order mine today.
Thanks again
Edit: I also noticed in the flowers image that the DOF is not as shallow in 2x compared to 1x. That's good.

Hi, I've the Pro version and was debloating like yourself, have you managed to get Hey Google to work? Not sure if I disabled anything for it to be greyed out but works fine if you click on the microphone icon.
Also are you staying on the cn rom?

Heya, I don't know as I don't like using voice assistants in general I'm afraid, so I actually got rid of that as part of my debloating spree.
Yes, I'll be staying on the CN ROM because it tends to receive OTA stable (and even stable beta) updates quicker. I don't want to worry about the unlocking, flashing and other update processes as I'd rather keep it simple even if the weekly EU ROM for instance has extra features and quality of life improvements. I'm very happy with my SOT and battery life now that I've removed everything I don't want on my phone now

Can you guys confirm that Mi 11 Pro also has Dxomark camera update ? That the main sensor is same as ultra ? I've heard that software is different. Even though the main sensor is same.

Question Cameras in low light are really bad

Smudged detail, really not great. I had the find x5 pro for a while before returning it and there really is no comparison. Quite disappointed.

Really not sure about keeping the phone. On one hand I actually like the fake OxygenOS basically ColorOS. The phone software feels very very polished relative to other androids. Almost like a non buggy MIUI. But the PWM flicker is pretty bad.
Cameras seem fine in my limited testing. Although OnePlus has always taken a couple months to fix their cameras.
I've taken some great pics so far...as with any phone the situation sometimes requires you to alter some settings, that's what pro modes for.
This phone will come good, the hardwares just too good to not exploit with some good ROMs.
I was hesitant at first comparing it to my 8 pro but I'm so in now..

Totally agree!
in good light the camera is fine, it is medium to low light where I am seeing a drop off vs say the S22 or Pixel. For example seems pretty bad for smudging fur detail on pets.

Have you tried the other settings in manual mode ?
As a point and shoot it'll get better but if you expect the world without any work it's just not going to happen mate. Not Vs an S22. I mean that's an expensive phone, it should be better, the pixel is using the base software and it's Google again it should be better..
That being said I'm positive I can get better than any point and shoot camera phone with this phone
This camera has a lot of features, settings, and cool picture possibilities....Hasselblad ftw
What I have learnt from experience with phones is to now buy it for the camera , I will just get one mirror less camera which will last longer than any camera phones for a long time
I think it is only in comparison to the competition that it falls short. My torture test for any new phone is photos of our cats indoors and I am seeing more smudging and a less clwean image than the Pixel of S22 Ultra offers and yes I have owned both and still actually have the S22U.

Try some different settings. Smudges may occur due to HDR being on and a slight movement, could just be the software that OnePlus has made. It could just need a few updates which I'm sure may occur.
ISO could be too high too.
Use pro mode, set the shutter speed as low as possible Vs an ISO of 200-800, should help...find the sweet spot depending on the light you have.. it's manual but honestly my pics come out better when I have control. My DSLR I'd never let the camera choose for me..
There was a poll on phonearena with blind camera test (users were asked to vote for best picture of same scene clicked by S22, iPhone13 Pro, OP 10 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro without knowing which phone clicked which picture)... OP sucked major balls and came in last

Again this is point and shoot.
Ask any actual photographer if they rely on automatic lens settings, the vast majority will say no they won't so why would you rely on it for your phone? They all have the capability yet we tend to believe some plum who's pointings and shooting? Makes no sense to me
I'm not saying that the results are incorrect as I've not used them phones, but relying on this test is testing one thing and that's the automatic settings chosen by the software on the phone.
That's it.
Give all these phones to a photographer and get them to use settings based on the scene they have Infront of them, then check the results, I think you'll see a different outcome
For the record I used to be a photographer for a living in a previous life. I almost always though just use my phone in auto mode as a point and shoot, have just never embraced manual mode (or even Av mode for that matter) on a phone.

I take a lot of astro photograph's, both with my DSLR / telescope and purpose built astro camera.. but also my phone.
I need to change some things when I take a night shot, especially of the sky.
I think if you give it a shot (no pun intended) you'll be surprised at the results.
it will take months before sensor potential is used at its fullest with Gcam, and everyone knows these have infinite issues with white balance etc for years, so those kind of flagships won't ever shoot close to what cheaper older flagships can already do after years of gcam configs development

I agree besides gcam, it's just unstable, things not working like wide angle, slow motion.
But for a point and shoot it's the simpler option.
I think Vs pro mode you'd get better on the stock app.

Question No Xperia 10 IV forum on XDA?

Hi Guys,
Will there be an Xperia 10 IV forum on XDA? I have been using the phone about a month now, and keep checking here - but these is no such forum for the device on XDA.
Regards,
If it helps in any way, I rooted my 10 IV by following what this user did to their 1 IV.
I haven't installed a ton of modules though!
It won't be helpful, but I'm very tempted by this phone, so I wonder if you would have any feedback. In particular, is the camera ok ? Did you manage to install a working version of gcam ?

Yes I did! I tried out all of the versions found on the stable page, one or two would crash upon starting (can't remember which ones) but I settled for MSC's 8.1 apk since it had a toggle for ultrawide and option to use a third party gallery.
Here's two photos which are taken a few days apart (pre-root and post-root) - I can attest that the gCam is more color accurate based on my cat's fur, have to thank the Google AWB in the app for that

Though, the 8.1 apk is missing a normal x1 zoom toggle (only x0.6 and x2), will confirm in the future if I ever manage to get the time to try other versions again.
Thanks ! That's nice (almost as nice as your cat)
Did the gcam port work with the telephoto lens ? And more generally do you find the telephoto lens useful / of good quality ?

Thanks and yes! Out of the provided zoom toggles, I believe the x2 one uses the telephoto, so it has been my daily driver since rooting.
It's sufficiently sharp for my uses (in fact, the gCam photo above was taken using the telephoto). Here's two more shots I just took - one from 50cm, one from 20cm.
I do have to hold very still though! Of course, it's a telephoto, and that my room's not very well lit, but I expect it should work much easier in brighter situations.
Thanks for taking the time to share these pictures, this is really useful. Both pictures look quite sharp.
This xperia 10 iv seems to tick many boxes for me : reasonable size, good screen, great battery life, decent camera with telephoto... I'm still waiting to see the reviews of the Pixel 6a, but it's very tempting.

My pleasure! After my S9+ kicked the bucket, I was deciding between the 10 IV or the Pixel 5a as both had a headphone jack and a decent battery.
I ended up picking the 10 IV since it was newer, and that the battery seemed to last forever (which it does!).
You could also consider another upcoming alternative: the Zenfone 9. While the battery's smaller by 700 mAh and that there's no telephoto, it does seem very impressive for such a small package.
If modules are like on 10 iii, try whitelist 4th or 5th module in gcam settings, it's equivalent for 0th module.

Thanks for the tip, I tried this out on MSC's 8.1 and it actually revealed the normal camera! Well, I whitelisted both 4th and 5th modules, so x1.1 and x1.2 options appeared, but both appear to be at the same zoom level.
Does someone know if the 10 IV has fm tuner hardware inside? The app clearly is missing. Is it region dependent, meaning the radio functionality depends on the firmware, or region dependent meaning the hardware is different? Usually the fm tuner is part of the wifi/bt chip, which in this case it`s a qualcomm WCN3990, which the manufacturer states that it does have digital fm. Tried different radio aps(fm ones, not online), none worked, still don`t know what to think of this issue. Thanks!

Hi, I usually repair electronics in my free time, including fm transmitters, so yes, tried with the headphones plugged in . Also tried spirit radio and some other app I can`t remember right now, that are for this issue, not from play store, couldn`t find anything useful there. Still can`t tell if this phone has hardware for fm. To mention, I have not rooted the phone. Will wait & see . Other than this, nice battery time and pretty responsive device.
fyi - maybe we get a device section - at least I posted it here
I'm wondering does the 10 IV have any issues like it's predecessor (green/red tinted, flickering Screen)? Are there any other common issues.
Really considering buying it as the 10 III has these glaring display bugs unfortunately. But I wanna make sure the next phone I order isn't likely broken as well..
