whenever they start doing soak test and they haven't started it yet but that should start soon. More than likely early 2019

I mean there's really no such thing as stable when it comes to gsi roms unless there specifically built for the device like the stock roms and official builds of custom roms like lineage and RR. You can technically flash any gsi rom but there is a strong chance of device related issues. some gsi images work better than others. There's fixes for some issues but I myself don't know em because Im not on a gsi image

Are you on stock ??

I'd assume it would be soon because the Moto x4 just got the Pie beta. That phone came out not long before this one.

Not really, most of them won't even boot. I'm hoping 9.0 drops by the new year for our G6.

The x4 has been out for well over a year now. There's quite a gap between it and the g6 series.

Wait around one year or so for the update to 9.0... Motorola/Lenovo has ruined the updates so I have lost the hope in this company ...

All of the arm/A roms including unofficial pixel experience and aosp by phh boot fine. Only problems I've found are no hotspot and Bluetooth and notification ringtones sounding garbled. There is a fix that requires deleting a folder from your vendor for the last two problems

Well since this thread was opened on 30 Aug, I'd like to provide an update on the status.
Currently we have Daredevil and devilcoral kernels capable of booting Oreo. And they do.
(I've still not done anything related to Oreo in venom kernel because I don't feel like doing it. Maybe I'll do once Oreo comes out to public and whole Oreo kernel source and device sources become stable)
(To me, there's no point in already adding support for Android o when currently o is only in beta stage and the two kernels above are more than enough for the mere purpose of "testing" it)
Ok, so those kernels are working good. They boot Oreo. Without the kernel support, we can't do anything about Android. So yeah, stage 1 is clear.
Then comes the ROM part.
Since we haven't exactly figured out the device sources, and Rohan, the one who makes the device source, has no time for it. I think I remember him say he's out but this is just a blurred incident in my memory.
We have K3 note by our side, kinda like the big bro to A7k. Daniel_hk has been doing quite a lot of tinkering there and released the carbon rom build of Oreo. Probably the first Oreo public release ever on a MTK.
The compiled roms we had were not so much talk.
So, recently AKS ported the carbon build from K3 and Aryan booted it with devilcoral. The bugs are, as expected, present here and there and surely it will take time to fix. And with Rohan not with us actively, it will take even longer. It's almost as if we're dependent on K3 note.
At least we get to the setup, then launcher, then we can also play around with settings. This is good. But there are other bugs which are not supposed to be mentioned here.
It is possible that oreo will come this year itself, but let me remind, even nougat took it's time. 8 months to be precise.
Finally,
It's best to be patient and keep waiting, considering the fact that Oreo has reached at the above mentioned working status. Keep waiting and don't disturb developers by asking about oreo too much.
I guess pressing the thanks button below would be great now.
Bt exactly when ??
great! I'm waiting for that! =)))

CM13 took 3 months to successfully port even with complete sources.
Android 7 took us 4 months to make it nearly stable enough as you see nowadays. And that was with the help of Rohan Taneja, who did everything from the source building to the debugging.
Now Rohan Taneja is not available and also don't miss the fact that our device is an MTK. No mtk device yet has stable Oreo.
Without Rohan Taneja, I would say it can take months more.
Here are the bugs in Oreo currently :
1) Deep sleep : Device screen does not turn on once it turns off. That makes it pretty useless enough. You will need to reboot every time phone screen is switched off. Most likely kernel issue.
2) Minor one compared to other. Bluetooth bug.

AOSP or LinageOS etc.?

Hi!
So I'm wondering if there is an ongoing developement of AOSP or LinageOS or other atlernatives for the Mi8, and if we will see any official beta release anytime soon?
I'm sick and tired of miui and all the system apps that's impossible to remove, and they keep fighting back to be default app. Grr! I would very much like a cleaner build, and would gladly be a beta tester. Although my experience from Mi5 is that miui felt more responsive than the linageos nightlies, I would rather have that and be able to choose my own apps.
Would I be even better off with this new Treble stuff?
Load MIUI 10 onto it, or global MIUI 9. Have no issues with default apps on MIUI 10. Had that with the original MIUI 9 China-rom though.

Are you able to remove all the Mi apps? Video, wallet, app store etc?
The fact is that I'm most fond of as close to stock android I can get, which is why I want AOSP. If it was possible to build AOSP on my own and still get camera, GPS and stuff to work as it should, then I'd do that.
I think it's better to have a rom built without bloat, rather than try to hide it afterwards.

Can you guide us into this MIUI 10 thing? I have china rom and unlock bootloader. No Root/TRWP or anything.
Just follow the steps here; https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/8-7-12-v2.44949/
You need TWRP.
Or wait till sources are released and there will probably be development available for AOSP/Lineage.
I have installed a treble rom (I think the RR one). The rom is working well but I went back to MIUI as Oreo doesn't support the notch yet.

Cool, was everything else than the notch working as it should? The notch is not important to me..
Aosp would be very good, always my first choice to use. Lineage can wait [emoji3]
Hope we have devs who waiting to cook the stock roms[emoji3] Otherwise I have to sell my mi8 and buy a OnePlus6[emoji26]

the treble pie roms can be installed on Nokia 1. Its bootable. the only problem is the RIL(incoming calls are not notified) on nokia 1 (being a a mediatek SoC)is buggy so cannot be used as a daily driver as of now. If calling can be made perfect i think pie can be used on nokia 1.

Cant say. Maybe yes in future once treble gsi becomes stable. But as of now gsi roms work on nokia 1.
I came looking for gsi because i face background app crashes on nokia 1, infact many ppl do. There is a discussion even on xda. Its like you open any app, put that in background and after few minutes it exits from memory and you get no notifications from that app.
Can i know your nokia 1 model and build number?

Thanks for creating the topic here. I also tried to create on here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-1/help/treble-experiment-t3836805 with not so much success...
I did not expect the Nokia 1 to be fully compatible with Treble. Other Nokia phones seems have the setting set to no. However, it seems in does (does that setting prevent to push manually GSI images, or simply means that the phone won't be updated by treble ?)
This is for me really interesting, as it means that the Nokia 1 should get alternative ROM support, soon or later. A Couple of links :

I would be really interested to see results of tests for Lineage, AOSP or other alternative ROMs GSI (even just for Oreo 8.1). The only one i found https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Nokia-1 is a bit incomplete (for example doesnt say wich GSI is used). That device would be amazing if for example lineage could run on it (small, cheap, changeable battery, and with lineage a gapps free android )

Well, I have tried LOS , RR oreo 8.1 GSI images and also the latest pie GSi images by phhusson. All of them boot and work as intended with mentioned bugs. But the one thing that stops from makin it a daily driver is incoming calling. The phone doesnt notifies you of incoming calls. So its a big no as of now.
This needs device specific mods. Maybe phhusson can check this in future builds if he is aware of exact cause.
To be honest, i tried gsi images just coz nokia 1 stock rom has app crashes. It doesnt keeps even a single app in background and makes it useless. And this issue is in some other models too. Its a bug from nokia side and users hv reported in nokia forums too. But nokia is deaf to budget phones. Every month a new update but same issue.

So guys, I bet everyone remembers the legendary HTC HD2 which ran a lot of android updates and other OS (IIRC, It came as Windows OOB),
Could Nokia 1 be something comparable, as a treble device?
Also, has anyone tried the GSI roms? I seem to get stuck on the boot screen.

Do incoming calls work?
I want to install GSI image on my Nokia 1 . My model is TA-1066 with build number 00WW_2_200_SP05. I don't care to get Android 8.1 Oreo version or 9 Pie. I want device to work good and currently on stock 9 Pie it has lot of bugs.
Which version of GSI by phhusson works flawlessly with incoming calls? Is it 8.1 v32?
Also does build number or model matters while installing GSI?

You can check out the treble development forum for Los and GSIs which are generic system images. These are a rom designed to be universally compatible. However this tech is in the early stages so what works. And doesn't work is mostly up to you to figure out.

Why no stable custom ROM for A2

I don't get it
Why no developer is working on A2
There so many custom ROMs for note 5 pro
At least Lineage os
And official TWRP
because a/b pattition
you can flash gsi, or convert a2 to 6x, it have some custom roms (aex, havoc, pe), but newer 6x stock rom (miui) have arb.

A/b partitions are certainly not the problem as there are plenty of roms supporting this already.

So what's the problem I buy this for all
Custom ROMs
And extra. Modes
To unlock other features
For better kernel
And nothing is happening
Should I change my device

There is no problem. Look at mia1, for the same period last year there was no rom. Be patient if not change your device.

Nothing is happening because roms don't fall from the sky. Find some devs. Donate hardware to them, pay them. Or wait.

LineageOS for the A1 was released six! months after the device got released. So we are still within the normal timeframe for rom development.

Wow, didnt knew that, but its surprising for me. Thanks for this info
not so much stable ROM because this device still new just released July 2018 back then and Xiaomi just released the kernel for developer (read it somewhere I forgot, sorry I can't source it). Give the devs who interested some time to experiment with it and we will see much more ROMs in the next few months.
People buy the Mi A2 for the android one experience, not to change The rom. Custom roms are usually close to stock
Pure android, dont need custom rom....why ?

True
Because
Not stable
Bug's
Not optimized
Custom ROM provide latest extra patches
And extra custom setting's
Root runs perfect on custom ROM
stock it's give problem
And best Kernel's for better performance and battery life
