[GUIDE] How to install the One UI beta on an AT&T locked s9 - Samsung Galaxy S9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys, just wanted to drop a quick and dirty guide on how to get the beta working on your locked AT&T device. I am by no means a developer or an expert, but I've been flashing ROMs and modding my devices for close to 8 years. I take no responsibility if you brick your device or cannot get it to work, feel free to research yourself or wait until the beta ends and Samsung releases Android 9/One UI next year.
Okay, so the first thing I had to do was install the U1 firmware. I used this thread for most of the steps.
The links to the modded version of Odin in the 2nd post of that thread were dead, so I downloaded it from this post.
I downloaded the 3ARJ2 U1 firmware here.
Following the directions in that U1 thread, I unzipped the firmware file and flashed it in Odin. Elsewhere in the thread, it was recommended to choose the CSC file that starts with "CSC_OMC_OYM..." instead of the "HOME_CSC" file.
After it boots up, you may be able to join the beta using the Samsung+ app, I'd recommend downloading this beta version.
For whatever reason, the beta registration banner showed up for me but pressing the register button never did anything. I found many reports of that problem and tried everything for about two hours to make it work before moving on and downloading the OTA beta file below and installing it through recovery.
I downloaded the OTA file for the U1 firmware from this post.
ARJ2 to ZRK9 (Beta 1)

After installing the beta zip, I performed a factory reset, just in case.
Now I'm happily using the beta on my locked AT&T s9. I did see an option for VoLTE, but I had to disable it due to being on a FirstNet SIM, so I can't speak to how well that feature works. I haven't had much time to play around with the beta yet, because I wanted to get this posted up before I went to work. Hope this helps someone else! Thanks to all who helped me in the various threads, I really appreciate the XDA community!
P.S. This does not trip Knox.

Thank you I'll give it a shot

You're on a FirstNet sim too huh? Me as well. Gonna give this a shot.

I'll be curious how your reception is on the beta. Mine doesn't seem as good as before. I checked the APN settings, and it's still showing that it's using FirstNet profiles.

Ended up not being able to go from BRJ5 because I can't get the firmware in the correct order. Did doing this trip your Knox? Not a huge deal for me, as I am the IT in my government agency, but a big deal for device compliance in Intune.

I was on 3BRJ5 before flashing the U1 firmware. It did not trip Knox.

So does WiFi calling and VoLTE work? Can anyone confirm

Ultimately those features aren't present on the U1 firmwares for Att.

I have a Verizon device and tried installing the One UI beta on my S9+ and got some error messages and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction

Sorry, but pretty sure this is S9 only. There is another thread for S9+
That's why it keeps falling

Appreciate the patched Odin. I also have the locked SM-G960U and was unsuccessful in flashing U1.

The reason its failing is OneUI beta isn't designed for Version G965U. You will need to got to G965U1 to load the beta.

The 256? error

Finally made the jump as I was too sick of waiting on samsung/att to give me the update! Thanks for the great instructions and links that actually work. Beta 3 to me feels better than using Oreo. The only weird little bug I have noticed is the night mode likes to turn itself off randomly. It's been working great as my daily driver for a almost a week now without issue.

Easy way
Found a easy way
Flash the G960U1 in the post
Completely Boot then
Then flash this via odin
https://drive.google.com/file/d/12zsai6UKCeadt0L1D765vVnksqPTi0pp/view?usp=drivesdk
Full 9.0
Unzip
Follow the flashing step
But add the user data
And boom!!
Works on att US model tested on my own

Personally I think is not worth it. This is not final build and will delete data from your device. Then next one will show up in couple days or even (maybe) tomorrow. If I will you I will wait for around another 3-4 weeks to get more stable build.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA Premium HD app
I tried it -- the installation took about an hour in Recovery, mainly stayed in the "Patching system files". This install *WILL* wipe your phone (not your SD card though).
The build was super fast (even faster than a fresh Nougat flash).
There were two things that caused me to flash back to Nougat.
- The Wi-Fi was extremely weak. At my desk at work, I can normally see 6 Wi-Fi networks. 4 of them are in my office. With Oreo, I could only see two of them, and it struggled to stay connected to the one that I normally have full signal on.
- Also, my AT&T Gear S2 Classic could not be connected. Upon attempting to pair (after confirming the PIN on phone/watch) Samsung Gear gave a message stating that I need to ensure my phone was compatible and that I had the latest Samsung Gear app. I confirmed that there were no available updates for ANYTHING in the Play Store and Galaxy Apps. Both stores showed that my app was up to date.
If it weren't for those two issues, I'd still be on the Oreo build right now.
Another point -- I experienced my first freeze/reboot on this phone in Oreo. I've had the phone since June of last year and never had any freeze/reboot issues previously. Never dropped or gotten the phone wet, etc.
Hope this helps anyone who is wanting to flash the build!

DO you know can i install this update on my 935U model and how can i do it ?
You need to ODIN to 935A's latest build (BRA1) then you can upgrade to this Oreo build by flashing it in Recovery.

BRA1 ODIN Files
Thanks to @norbarb for that link. I downloaded it the other day. You will have to unRAR the files after you open the initial ZIP file -- otherwise ODIN won't find the files.

Without a PC, you cannot update to Oreo unless you're already on the AT&T G935A firmware.

As far as I can tell, there's not an OTA sideload update path to BRA1. Someone else may be able to chime in with it.
I assume you are not an AT&T customer, otherwise you could use the official OTA method to get to BRA1.

Thanks for the feeback, I tried this and I agree on weak Wifi on Oreo. I will keep and play with it for sometime before going back to Nougat. Hopefully new stable version shows up soon.
You are a lucky man because i'm flashing via adb and only 59 %. Which issue with a WiFi ? Can you please provide me more information and maybe do you know who will it fix ?
Thank you

I face the same issues you have described. Originally after applying the Oreo update, I was not able to enable Bluetooth nor WiFi. I had to reboot to recovery and wipe cache.
Once that was done, I was able to get WiFi and Bluetooth to work.
I have the Galaxy Fit2 and was not able to sync watch to the phone with the same error you received. ( I tried the version 3..1.80.80109 of Samsung Accessory Service as suggested in another thread, no luck.)
WiFi as you described is pitiful, luckily I don't rely on WiFi as much so I will continue on with this Oreo build.
Does anyone know how to turn off the red heart rate sensor light off? It is accidentally turning on even if I dont get my finger on it after oreo update

Wifi issue meaning weak signals in Wifi connection on Oreo. I simply followed the steps in flashing through SD card and it took a while (40 mins or so) but eventually it went through the install.

How to get the Beta "Update" on your Note 9 U1.

So I bought my note 9 three weeks ago, it was ATT carrier branded, since I don't need/like any carrier bloat, I just flashed the unlocked firmware to it, until today its working with no problems at all.
So today I learned that the One UI beta came out, I log on my Samsung+ app I got the banner and hit register but nothing... it will simply send me back to the start, probably because i'm offshore who knows. well I started looking around tried with a VPN, tried spoofing my location, clear cache, clear data ( did this multiple times ) but it will simply not let me join the beta.
So I keep on looking and I find this website https://firmware.science/ it will allow you to download the OTA file and flash it using recovery mode!
Sure I wont get the otas automatically on my phone, but I can simply download then again and flash then as they come out.
I hope this helps anyone like that just wanted to install the latest software!
Note!:
This doesn't mean that your are part of the beta, but means that you will have the beta software on your phone!

Does doing that wipe my device? Or do I get to keep my stuff?
I wanted to add this for anyone who kept tapping the register button but was simply returned to the banner like nothing happened.
If this is happening and you dont get a toast msg saying "thank you for your support of the One UI Beta" and no OTA follows, try deleting the (beta) Samsung + app data, rebooting and try again.
I tried all day before doing this and got the OTA 5 mins after wiping app data.

Already try my apps and games (fortnite, arena of valor) and they work perfect!

Tried everything, to be honest I was just sure that the Samsung+ app would check where you are in the world and if your not on the US it will simply not let you join the beta, the method above worked flawlessly for me!, I'm running One UI at the moment with the dark theme and its awesome!

Yes, I did. No data loss.
I flashed the same zrkp from firmware. Science on my us unlocked note 9 with arj9 firmware. It did a full factory reset. I would have done so anyway as I always do with major updates.
Working flawlessly so far.
Edit: 2 exceptions found. Themes are not working and cannot connect to my gear s3. Android wear watch works as expected.
Question what happens when you go into settings an click on Software update does it do anything..Just curious..I have the ATT variant an I'm planning on flashing the Unlocked Firmware..

Ok. First of all. Green and gold till I'm dead and cold.
Second of all, if you flash the U1 firmware and sign up for the beta, then you'll get OTAs automatically through settings.
If you flash the U1 firmware and can't get into the beta program, you can download the update.zip from firmware.science. You will have the official beta build, but you won't get updates through settings, because you aren't part of the beta program.

That is normal. Just wait. It will eventually load the AP file. If you're flashing the U1 firmware, there is no Userdata file, so you don't use that slot.
Make sure you are using the modified version of ODIN 3.13.1 and run it as an administrator. There are links to it on XDA. Or if you go to the main beta thread there's links to it in the thread.
Just put the files in their respective slots. BL in BL, AP in AP, etc...
CSC_OYN performs a factory reset. HOME_CSC does not wipe the phone. I always use CSC_OYN when switching from carrier firmware to U1 firmware or vice versa, but it's up to you.
After everything is all loaded up in ODIN, put your phone in download mode. Power off. Then hold power, Bixby, and volume down button all at the same time until it boots to a blue-green screen. Then press volume up to continue.
Plug your phone into your computer and hit start. Then sit back and wait. This will take a while.
That's all the steps. If you have any issues, I encourage you to use the search bar on the forum. These steps and solutions to any issues you may run into have been posted many times in several threads. The search bar is your friend and should always be the first thing you do before posting questions.

One UI 2.0 Beta Sideload Help

Ok, so I have the AT&T variant SM-N960U and I saw where the unlocked models are able to register for the beta program through Members,
so I flashed the unlocked SM-N960U1 firmware to my device with the regular CSC and full factory reset.
Worked great, everything works as expected and I see the banner in Members for the beta.
Afterwards, I found out the beta is closed, so I can't register. I did a little digging and found where to download the Beta 1, 2, and 3 to sideload.
However, I'm at a point now where whenever I try to update via SD card or a sideload, the device tells me the zip "has unexpected files" and says "Status 7" "Installation aborted #1"
After searching through the forums, I've found that apparently the Status 7 error is when there is a signature mismatch due to rooting or some other form of status change, therefore OTA's won't take.
Is this because I flashed the unlocked firmware, even though it was official? How can I fix this and HOPEFULLY get Android 10?
I'm still trying to get it in my U1 s9. Unfortunately, noone got beta 1 or 2. So I can't update as of yet.
You are fine. Nothings wrong with your device. Unless you get weird bugs.
I think its either you updated to the latest u1 but you have to be on the version before it which ends in "j1"
Or
The files you downloaded is corrupt so you would have to redownload them. Make sure the md5 checks out.

I'm on CSJ1, trying to update with ZSL2. MD5 checks out for both downloads I've found. Even renamed them to "update.zip", not "update.zip.zip"

Then i dont know what to tell you. It should work.
It worked for me converting U to U1. And so did alot of people
May be you start from the beginning.
Check if the all the files download are not corrupt. Even the u1 firmware and the patched odin.
Check all the files and their md5. Match it.

[samsung note 8][revert to stock firmware from custom]

Alirghty so i bought a used samsung note 8 duos. it says it on the back, in the software, in smart switch, heck even the AP and CSC files are infact for a SM-N950F
Here is where the problem is as far as I've figured out, I'll explain what the firmware files are on the device taken from dialing *#12580*369#:
BL:N950NKSU5DSK1
AP:N950FXXS7DSH1
CP:N950NKOU5DSH1
CSC:N950FOXM7DSG1
The phone runs fine honestly but its bugs me that there two different binaries mixed in my phone from what i can tell the BL and CP are from a Korean level 5 Binary (also can someone tell me why security levels matter now?) and the AP and CSC are from F model level 7 Binary
I cant flash anything stock cause its the only thing ive tried and it just wont let me. I am downloading a level 5 binary in *hopes* that it doesnt see an issue with the security levels between firmwares as i always get the fricken PIT error or secure download error orrrr the magic string invaild
All i need is a way to get my dualsims back up and running ive got two imeis on this phone which ive checked online and theyre working also id love it if i could just get all 4 files to be from the same firmware zip
FYI the only thing ive been able to flash is TWRP after which i got to installing no-verity and magisk, Ive been using twrp backups as a failsafe to revert back to the 'original' state my phone was in and thats the only thing working for me so far and i may or may not be a noob in flashing samsung devices

The reason for that is because the phone has obviously been repaired using different hardware from different devices. It's never going to be able to flash normal firmware being that there's different hardware in it. If you want to upgrade that you'll need to use the different versions of firmware for each different hardware.. I'd just send it back if I bought it from somewhere like that.
Revert to Stock
I owns one Galaxy Note 8 SN950-F Indian version,
I have installed one custom ROM for my mobile last month and now i need to revert back to stock.
How can i do it ? Once i installed stock OS using Odin but Knox looks crashed and apps like secure folder not working !
Can i get it done through service center ? When i contacted them they said its impossible as you have rooted once.

Once Knox is tripped it takes a motherboard replacement to revert it.
If SF (Secure Folder) is that important to you, stay on a custom rom that has patched SF patched already.
Literally all TWRP/Rom threads warn you of this, always read the whole OP of any thread in the future.
Yeah. Thats what im doing now. Running on doctor ketans rom.
but im little worried now. Because haven't used any custom roms and worried about security issues.
Can we still go back to stock os ? With genuine updates?

Just follow the steps in the thread below. At the bottom of post #2 you can download "samfirm" for you Pc, it will let you download the latest filmware at a decent speed. (once back on stock you should disable OEM lock so your bank app, Netflix etc will work)

Like I said to you above, once Knox is tripped SF won't work, if SF is that important to you stay on a custom rom that has patched SF. If you're worried about security updates use DeluxeRom which has last months security patch.

Pixel 4XL - Stock, not rooted: device corrupted

Hello all, I have a stock Pixel 4 XL which has never been rooted. I did not even enable bootloader unlocking (which clearly I should've done).
Anyway, my phone a few days ago was installing a system update overnight and when I woke up it was on the black screen saying "Your device is corrupted and cannot be trusted".
I have tried to install factory images and OTA updates but because my device is locked, nothing is working.
I have also tried the Android Flash Tool and Pixel Recovery Tool but again, device is locked so nothing will flash.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it even possible?
PS: Funny how they don't want you to unlock the bootloader cause of safety reasons but if I had unlocked it, I could've easily fixed this phone already. Seems to do more harm than good.

You can try sideloading the full OTA image. Unlocked bootloader isn't required.
So download the OTA and do fastboot flash OTA OTAfilename?

No, you use adb to sideload it. Get the OTA image you want from here.
Then follow the directions in this tutorial.

Update package verification took 0.1 seconds (result 1)
ERROR: recovery: Signature verification failed

I downloaded this full OTA image.
13.0.0 (TP1A.220905.004, Sep 2022) for coral.
EDIT: I tired the build before this one (from Aug) and it got farther along than the Sep one but eventually failed because: recovery: update package is older than the current build.
Okay so for some reason the link directly from Google didn't work but the link from here did work!!
So I want to thank you Lughnasadh!
If anyone else comes across this issue, try the link from this website:
How to download Android 13 for Google Pixel and other Android devices
Google has officially kicked off the Android 13 QPR3's stable version rollout. You can download the release right now and give it a try!
www.xda-developers.com
Not sure why, but this version was 1.8gbs and worked,
the official one from Google was 2.2gbs and didn't work.
