Wireless Charger - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

Has anyone found a stand up wireless charger that works with this phone besides the Razer branded one? I just tried the Seneo Upgraded wireless charger and the pads did not line up properly so it is being returned.

I got the Maxpower WX600, and so far that's the only STAND UP one that's working in my experience (as in without adding anything to adjust the position), guess it is becoz of the 3 Coils design, so I'd bet any other ones with 3 Coils might just do the trick as well~

I tried this Tylt one and it's worked fine so far with a RP2.

I saw a post on Reddit saying the Nokia DT910 works. I used to have one but I lost it so I can't test it. The one problem I foresee is stability, that charger might be a bit small for the Razer. It can be bought for 10-15 dollars on ebay.

A basic belkin works perfectly fine, whilst in a Spigen case as well

Using a Itian A6 charger with no problems in portrait mode...

I found this good https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seamless...PHONE-2-Qi-enabled-Mobile-Phone-/362503699045
Easy to check that charging properly with blueish light. Charging very well in TPU case.

Anyone know the measurement from the bottom of the phone to the center of the coil? That would definitely help to make the magnetic attachment qi chargers work.

Tylt Vu Wireless Charging Stand

I wanted to share an interesting observation I made this evening. I have the S6 Edge with the Tylt Vu stand, and it works a heck of a lot better if I put the phone down into it in landscape.
Portrait has a REAL hard time getting a connection. Of course, if I take the case off, it doesn't matter. For now, I don't mind because I can see the night clock better.
UPDATE: Portrait will not work regardless of case vs none. If you are able to get it to get a connection, it cannot maintain it. As stated in post #7, I believe there is an alignment issue with the coils and the phone. I will be emailing Tylt to see what they have to say.
No pics = fail
I was gonna buy a Tylt, but the price was ridiculous, so I ordered one of these, shold be here tomorrow...less than 1/2 the price!

Maybe less than half in price, but less than half the charging voltage 5v versus 12v of the Tylt

they both put out 1 amp while charging, so there wont be much, if any difference in how long it takes them to charge a phone, especially if they are sitting on the charging stand for awhile, But hey, if it makes you feel better about overpaying by more than double, that's ok..

I'm not sure why pics are needed? To update, I realized that case, or no case, it's not going to work in portrait orientation. It does get a connection but cannot maintain it. I've updated my OP to reflect that.
Also, there is now at least one review of similar products on Amazon having the same issue. Some of the vendors are even updating their item descriptions saying not to use with the S6/Edge

While that is true, if you're just using it as a charger overnight then it shouldn't be much of an issue. The 3 coil could benefit there as well, as my suspicion is an alignment issue with the S6 and the Tylt, and other products based on its design.

Let me know how well it works, with and without a case if possible.
I have 2 tylt Vu wireless chargers and my 6 edge works fine in portrait with both. Maybe it's just your unit ??? Btw i also have the neo hybrid case on while wireless charging .
I can definitely agree with OP. I have two tylt vu chargers, tried it with both case and no case on the edge, and the chargers both exhibit weird behaviors when the phone is in portrait. The behaviors include:
Charger showing green light but phone does not show charging
S6 edge continuously disconnect and reconnects back to the wireless charging
No light and not charging on the S6 edge
I think the position of the wireless charging receiver on the edge must be in between the top and middle coils and is not getting a solid connection. It would also explain why having it landscape will give you a proper connection if it is able to solidly make a connection with bottom coil.
UPDATE: I did some testing with the charger I have at home and it seems that the case might be the real culprit. I cannot seem to replicate the weird behaviors when there is no case on the phone; it chargers just fine. I did take a video that shows the odd behavior when the S6 edge has a neo-hybrid case on, this one. youtube link
I have two Tylt chargers and my S6 Edge works great in portrait. I was lucky and got two Tylt chargers on clearance $30 each from T-Mobile a year ago. Have no issues charging with my clear plastic T-Mobile case. It's very thin though.
My Note 4 had issues wireless charging at times I would have to take it off then set it back down. I had the Samsung Qi back cover.

I have this case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SV63WVE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Probably not the absolute thinnest case but it can't be too far off. If the charger cannot work properly even with a case as thin as this, then that, to me, is an issue. The fact that the "knockoff" versions of this product are starting to see reviews with similar issues should be considered. What I don't know is if the reviewer tested like you did...

Another vote for having two Tylt Vu's (apparently I'm not the only one who can't have just one!), and they both work fine without a case.... that being said, I ordered the Spigen Neo Hybrid CC in gunmetal as my first case I've ever had on any Galaxy device, EVER - this phone is just too damn expensive and thin not to have one this time - and I'll let you know in two days if it still works with that case on it!
S6e + Tylt + Spigen Neo Hybrid = No Bueno
I concur with OP. 5 tylt chargers around the house and my S6e with Spigen Neo Hybrid exhibits inconsistent wireless charging on portrait but no problem in landscape mode. Naked S6e charges with no problems in portrait.
This is my case that I have no issues wirless charging on my Tylt in portrait. The case is made by Samsung and I bought it at T-Mobile at cost $20 instead of $35. Limited protection but does cover the corners. S6 Edge is to damn sexy to hide in a case. I know it's better safe then sorry. Also if you register your phone at Samaung you can get 30% off and buy it from them.

That pretty unfortunate.
I happened to order this wireless charger/stand http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S7IBDGW/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_y-5jvb18R9X7M and charging in Portrait with a case/without a case works perfectly.

That's interesting because that's the same unit that the one review I saw they had problems. Also, I don't know how new this is or when you bought it, but it says in the item description that this is not for the S6 or S6 Edge, and that there will be a new version that is compatible.
The reviewer doesn't say whether it's the S6 or S6 Edge, however I am seeing on other branded products, the item descriptions are being updated with a warning not to buy for the S6.
I can't make heads or tails of it. I have other receivers that work just fine. Those include a Choetech Stadium, MobilePal battery pack with Qi charging, a Koolpad, and iOttie EasyFlex Wireless Charging Car Dock...
As an update to my comment about my S6E working just fine in the Tylt Vu, it still does, but damn that thing took over 6 hours to charge last night and when I picked it up this morning, it was MUCH hotter than my S5 ever was on the Tylt Vu with wireless charging cover..... I'll have to look how long it took my S5 to charge over night, I got my S6E down to around 15% and charged it from there - and then this morning when I was waking up, it made a charging connection sound, so I went to look at it to see if it had the same issues a few of you had, expecting to get up and see it half-dead, and it was at 100%.... so it was charging all night, no disconnections, just took a loooooooong time and made a looooooot of heat, which can't be good for it!

Interesting I didn't even see that in the description before i bought it. But i can confirm this version works just fine with my Edge . And for the time being I am using the Spigen Air Cushion hybrid case and it still charges. It is a Qi enabled charger, I don't see why it would not be for a Qi device such as S6/Edge.

The issue is alignment between the coil(s) and the receiver. Are you carefully about how you put your phone onto it.or do you just kind.of drop it in there without giving it any thought?

cheap wireless charging stand that works!!

Just got this bad boy, and tested it out with cases and without..
without cases, works perfectly, portrait and Landscape;
with the spigen clear hybrid case on, works perfectly in portrait and landscape
with 3 different Verus cases on, it sometimes will work, depending on how you place it, in portrait, but worked perfectly in landscape!!!
Save a ton of $$$, and get it here..

that one looks nice too; I just wanted one that I could use as a stand, and see the display on my desk..
The LG G3 wireless charging stand works fine but had to place the S6E upside down to align the wireless charger
Edit - thought it was working but didn't. Will investigate further
Do you notice any heating issues? I bought one of those ebay wireless chargers for my Nexus 5 and I stopped using after noticing that the phone would heat up every time I charged it using the wireless charger.

nope, it gets slightly warm, which happens with all wireless chargers, and this is a metal/glass phone, but no "issues"

I've heard this A6 is good and half the price of a Tylt chargers. I was lucky I got two Tylt chargers on clearance a year ago. I wish I bought 3.
yep, my ebay 20 dollar cheapo works great with cases or without..
the only "weird" thing, is when there is a thicker case on, you have to first place it in landscape mode, then about 5 second later, you see it say "charging wirelessly"; then, if you want, you can turn it back to portrait and it will charge normally..
either way, it works great, so I was glad to save a lot of $$$, and have a desk stand wireless charger!
Yes,it's support fine on charging, great indeed! Also a little sorry for the overheat...
Wireless charging, yup it helped me in a number of ways, above all the availability of charging facility is now available everywhere that makes me very comfortable to keep my phone, ipad and other items alive all the time.
I had a few of the CHOE Qi Wireless chargers from when I bought them for my Note 3. Instead of buying new accessories on top of an already expensive ass purchase with the phone. I decided to 3D print my own charging stand (I have 10 3D printers at work ). This is my first prototype. Still exploring different ways to tweak the stand so it'll work in both portrait and landscape. Currently it only charges in landscape mode.

Wireless car charging setup

I wanted a wireless charging setup for my Samsung S6 edge, and this is what I came up with using the following parts.
The clamps to hold phone work perfect for holding the wireless pad, and the phone snaps in and out easily.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H9B7ALK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0IQTE8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PK1D7E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use this for mine;
http://www.theairdock.com/
I don't like using sticky pads, and I didn't want it on my dashboard, out of reach.
And it's $100
Question:
WHile using GPS navigation with wireless charging, how fast goes the battery charge? Or does it charge at all or discharge instead?
That looks pretty neat. Do you have any pics to share of how it works with the cup holder? My only concern about that set up is that my cup holder is right next to me, and I'm not sure how ackward the reach woud be considering the phone might be almost too close...if that makes any sense.
While using waze and playing music, it charges. Not fast, but it does charge. I'll get some more pictures.
Nice ingenuity! Thanks for sharing! I was considering picking one of these up to see if they would work:

Another pic as promised.
I'm planning to combine a Qi charging pad with my Neutron S magnetic mount.. hopefully it works, haven't tested it.
Here's the Neutron S: http://www.bungajungle.com/collections/all/products/neutron-s?variant=994256488
I was going to get the Anker Qi charging pad especially because its 6mm, very close to the Neutron S's 6.35mm height. Add on some double sided tape and it'll probably sit right up against the back of the phone when mounted.
Sadly, reviews say the Anker Qi pad doesnt work with reliably with our phones for some damn reason o_o
i bought this one :
Qifull
but it constantly disconnected and reconnected to the point of making it useless and i tried all kinds of things but no chance it can be reliable. i went looking for a better solution but REALLY liked everything about it other than charging issue.
sadly there were a few more like CHOE Upgraded Qi and the Qi-infinity but if you look closely they are the same thing from different sellers.
i havent found a simple purchase option yet and looking.
the problem seems to be the placement of the 3 coils in relation to where the phone sits on the charging pad.
i do own this CHOE Stadium and it works great and have looked at other standard docks to see how i could incorporate into something but nothing has met my qualifications yet.
All I know is that the setup I posted works flawlessly even with a case.

in my Ram Truck that doesnt work well for me though and a suction cup holder and i had the perfect setup with my Note 3 with this iBolt Dock
i looked at ways to add a qi pad inside it but not going to work with that one.
i will probably end up buying items and building something and your cup holder idea is nice just not for me.

Wireless Charger

Some time ago I purchased this for my G4 as well as this. It works just fine but when I put my case on it does not charge. The LED on the charger blinks like its misaligned or just out of range to charge. My case is a Ballistic brand case with the rubber then an external hard shell so its thicker than your average case. I also have a Verizon G2 that has wireless charging capability and with a thinner Diztronic case and it charges no problem.
So now I have a G4 with the power patch installed but cant use. Are there any other wireless charges that might be stronger? I don't want to have to buy a bunch of them to test. I've seen Samsung has a pretty large wireless charger available but I wonder if that would get through the case.
Anyone else out there with any charger that works through their case? By the way I use the QI wireless charging standard.

Hey Rusty, I use the other version of the Yootech charger (the triangle one) with a Spigen Slim Armor case and it works fine through the case. Of course it is a thinner case, so probably not much help to you.
Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried a higher amperage power block? I use a Motorola Turbo block with these similar items and it works fine. (I can't post external links yet, so edit and make it work for your use to amazon dot com.)

I got the Turbo block on Groupon for about $10 back in June. Unfortunately that's no longer available.
I've also used a Samsung 2A charger from a tablet. That also worked fine.

USB type c wireless charging pad finally available

Not sure if it will be any good but I have ordered on to see
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Type-C-...986680?hash=item4d44193db8:g:g2UAAOSwt7pXNIHp
There only seems to be one type ATM
and it supposedly charges at DC 5V/1000mA (depending obviously on the transmitting charger)
It's available from Amazon as well but they all link back to China
Early days, here's hoping I don't blow up my 5X
Yes it blocks the USB port but I always SMB stuff from my nas box so that's not a problem.
You're lucky if you ever get even 500mA out of it. Every Chinese Qi pad vendor overstates the power on their product. Still, nice to have the option. Let us know how it goes

Iiinteresting, ordered one of those through Amazon. Even if it's only 500mA it'll be nice to have, I just hope it doesn't mess with NFC stuff. Looks like it shouldn't given that the antenna for that is near the camera according to the manual.

The receiver coil looks bigger than the ones I've seen before so maybe 1 amp is a possibility, i'll let report when it eventually gets here.
Quick review
Got the pad now and here is my initial review
Clearly the photo on the advert is a bit of a lie as the coil is about half the size as you can see in the photo below.
The pad is situated to far too the top on the Nexus 5X and sticks out where the fingerprint reader is. This can be easily fixed by cutting a bit off the top, as the coil does not come right to the edge this can be done without ruining the receiver.
THe bit that plugs into the USB socket sticks out which is a bit annoying but not the end of the world.
On my Zens dual Qi charger it took just less than 4 hours to charge from 36% to full so it's not super fast but not that bad over night. The phone indicated slow charging and was AC charging by the battery usage page.
It seems to have no problem staying connected as long as you are aware where the coil is on the pad (towards the top) and has no problem charging through my case
It does not appear to interfere with the radio antenna at all so thats ok.
Also it's super slim so should not interfere with most cases
So in conclusion its fine for me as I rarely need to charge the phone except for overnight, and I have not been using the faster charger anyway.
In case anyone is wondering the case is a Nillkin Matte Super Shield Hard Shell Case which is super nice though the black was a mistake

Nice, thanks for the update. I'm still waiting on mine, it'll be nice to have wireless charging again.
edit: I did get mine today... it's a bit flaky at best, currently i'm blaming the qi charger, i've got a different one on the way.
Good to know it fits under a Nillkin case, as that's what I have for my Nexus 6P. I ordered a receiver on the 25th, hope I get it soon.

While fiddling with it the qi pad I have it only really works when the thing is outside my case in one exact spot. So... given that it worked fine for someone else I went hunting on Amazon and found a better looking unit.
We'll see Saturday when it gets here if I chose the right one.
Woot, got a full charge overnight with the new qi pad so that old pad is basically crap.
How thick is the pad? I'm wondering if it would be possible to remove as many unnecessary part from it and try to fit it under the back cover of the phone. And also solder it directly to the charging board so that the USB would be still usable

it's not very thick at all and any generic Qi receiver would probably do as a few people already have.

There is padding over the battery on the back case you can remove if it's too thick
Has anyone else been having problems with theirs?
For a couple days now it's charged to full and then the next morning it'll be less than 100%. Yesterday it was at 89%, today it was at 93%. I did verify it was at 100% yesterday before I went to bed.

I don't have one of these, but I might have a possible explanation. I used to use a 0.7 amp or 1.0 amp charger for charging the 5X overnight. Seemed to work at first, but then it started showing less than 100% in the morning. What seemed to happen from the battery graph is it would charge to full, then start draining (slowly) and not top up again. So I think the low power just didn't trigger it to start charging again once the battery drained a little.
I put it on a 2 amp charger and it now is 100% in the morning. If your phone acts like mine, it might be due to the lower power from wireless charging.

Yeah.. I was kinda thinking that a little, good to see it confirmed. Not sure how much the pad was getting but the sending unit was only drawing ~1A so that's the issue there...
Oh well, it was a nice experiment, would have been better had it actually worked though. Back to the included charger it is then.
Just a note from years of experience with these Qi chargers:
There's some inherent loss in efficiency. Essentially, your wall charger is working to spin current around in a coil, which then by magnetic induction causes current to spin around another coil (in your phone), that then feeds into the battery. It's indirect, there's no contact, and some phone materials can even impede it (just one reason these stupid metal wannabe-iphones luddites keep demanding are a terrible idea ).
Bottom line is - you need a charger that's over an amp, closer to 2a if possible, to spin some of these Qi chargers up enough that it makes a large enough field to get to the Qi coil in your phone and charge it efficiently. Ones that come with tablets seem to work fine - I have my Nexus 7 charger on my office Qi (which is angled and serves dual duty of holding my phone for easy reading and viewing).
I'm actually more interested personally in an internal Qi option - solder it in, invisible.
True story - I did that with my S3 before I got an S5, and it worked great. Didn't have to bother when I got an S5, since they sold an optional Qi battery door for the S5. ...don't get me started on my hatred of the design philosophy that excludes removable battery doors.
Anyway - I just picked up a 5x, reluctantly ditching many of the features I had on my S5, to try Google Fi service out.
Wireless charging is something that I'm very interested in - I have wireless chargers literally installed (meaning: hidden, routed wires) in my car, office, and house, specifically to avoid that dorm-room spaghetti-everywhere aesthetic. "Wireless... it's not just for convenience anymore."
Hopefully there's a thread with step by step instructions on a good Qi pad and identified soldering points to install internally?

Such a thread exists. Someone also offers a service doing the soldering for you. I might be able to find it...
Here is the mod:

EDIT: why did you mod your S3 when you could have dropped this in?
Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
That may exist today, but certainly didn't exist when the S3 was the current flagship phone.
Back in those years, the popular (and nearly 'only', here on XDA) modification was to buy the Palm Pre battery door and charger (non-Qi) and use those parts.
Since Palm had recently gone bust, $20 would get you all the parts you need - including Palm's proprietary charger base, a receiver sticker, even a charger.
And honestly, I have to say the Qi charger gets much hotter than the Palm system, so there might be an argument there for it being technically 'better than' the Qi systems. Qi is simply the standard today.
So now with the news that there are some accessories(chargers and cables) that are not compliant with the USB type C specifications, I wonder if these wireless pads are compliant with the specification?
