Need help with deleted photos and locked bootloader - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Ok so I have an issue I need help with. My kids deleted some photos. I can recover them with diskdigger, but of course it's only the thumbnail images. I read in order to get the originals I need root access. I can't get root access because I have a locked bootloader (I tried various root programs until I figured this out). Everything I read about rooting past a bootloader means flashing something and I will lose what I am trying to recover. Is this true or is this just a warning that this may happen? Is there any program or any way anyone knows around this problem so I can get to the original recovered photos and not just the thumbnail images? I have flashed tablets and phones before so I am comfortable doing so, but I fear in doing that it will not solve the original problem of trying to recover the photos. Any help is greatly appreciated! I will post the specs below, thanks.

Other than paid profesionals disk digger is your best bet
Try to shut the device off asap if possible the files have been marked for deletion but still reside in memory addresses. Every second the device is on id more and more that have actually been wiped as new data gets wrote over those spots

get files off a pattern locked cappy?

Coworker of mine brought me her AT&T "worldphone" SPH-I897 (eclair 2.1.1). she claims that a family member changed the lock code on the phone and no longer remembers it, and i cant factory reset the phone because she used the phone to take photos of her now deceased mother. she doesn't care if i have to brick this phone in the process, but its critically important that she get those photos...
there is no google account associated with the phone, so unlocking it via gmail auth isnt an option, and the phone was never put into debugging mode, so adb is only accessible from recovery mode. I've also attempted a hack someplace else on XDAdev which involved modifying and removing files in /data/data/, but this path was inaccessible in recovery mode.
I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance on what i can try next. I've read that custom recoveries can be flashed to the phone without root through ODIN, then a backup can be initiated, but i haven't been able to find a copy of a custom recovery that i'm certain wont brick this phone. i'm also assuming that the photos are inaccessible from adb when in recovery?
ugh... Help!

Need help please

I made the easiest mistake. I had lots of bloatware, so wanted to a generic rom. Had been using the phone for about 3 weeks.
Coming too my 4th android smartphone, previous all rooted, this was easily enough to flash.
Then I forgot. NOOOOOO!! All my data had been deleted!!! I didn't uncheck no to delete data in flashtool and I hadn't yet backed up my phone.
So, I tried to find out out to recover internal memory. I found out cannot be done.
I thought, OH well I will reluctantly have to unlock bootloader/root my phone to use software to recover my important photos and some data.
I did service info check. My bootloader cannot be unlocked!! wtf !!
So now am I literally screwed from every angle. Please can someone help.
Thx

Is the phone still recognized by PC Companion? If so, does it let you do a software repair?

The phone functions ok. I only flashed latest official less bloated rom. It is still recognised by PC companion, but I don't see a repair option. Maybe because I did flash manually with flash tool or unless you mean 'Backup/Restore' option? I did not do that
At them moment, I am not writing installing any apps or taking any photos, so it wont overwrite onto memory. I'm still looking for a solution.
I can't believe my bootloader cannot be unlocked
thanks for the suggestion..anything more you can think off?
Anybody ?
I haven't tried this so not sure if it will work but you can try a software like Recuva on your PC. Good call on not overwriting more data...hope you get your data back!

I forget the password and I want to copy the photos

My phone is at&t LG V40 ThinQ (V405) and I have forgotten the pin password.
As you know, I cannot access to everything without the password. I connected it to the PC and the files won't show up.
It turns on without problems, but it asks for a password to unlock the screen.
I can hard rest it, but it will erase everything. I cannot even root it because I need to enable the developer mode and allow the bootloader to be unlocked via the setting.
Is there is any way that I can retrieve the files via PC?

Are the photos saved on the sd card? Another good reason to turn that on if you didn't.
There is an frp partition for vzw phones that enables oem unlock, not sure it would work for a different variant though. Have you ever connected it with qfil? U don't need root for that, and in edl mode, you could save off user data (which is huge, like 40 gig I think). Not sure if your pics would be in that or not actually.
interesting problem. good luck.

No. The files are not stored in the SD.
Any detailed instructions to your suggestion is highly appreciated. Thanks

wish I had detailed instructions to give you. I've never been in that situation, or resolved one like it. I pointed out some avenues I'd explore it it were me... but it's not.
maybe you'd like to look more closely at those avenues, maybe you wouldn't, that's your choice.

Hope someone can help you fix your N9.
Bad news odin and such wont help. Right now you are what's called soft locked you have 1 recourse and that is factory reset. Using adb it might be possible to pull off a backup of the file system but that is still it. If you get a readable backup you are still going to need factory reset. The only thing that would have helped would be twrp and nandroid backups you could have loaded them or used twrp to mount the emmc to copy off. And since you are stock you might have encrypted the emmc and sd card and if that is the case nobody can help you you only have 1 option and that is factory reset and restore from syncronized backup.
What's more is this isn't an issue of a maligned 3rd party theme needing to be overwritten it is from an official store on a stock device. Good news is you seem to have signed into samsung cloud backup and perhaps linked a google account to the phone so the auto backup should restore your contacts and txt messages.
