Plastidipped Back of Phone - OnePlus 6T Guides, News, & Discussion

I got bored today so I ended up spraying the back of the phone with plastidip. I did a terrible masking job and I'm not sure I like the look. However, I do like the texture. I didn't want a case at all and skins looks nice but I had some plastidip and I wasnt sure if they skins actually had physical texture. I wanted to remove the slippery feeling from the phone.

Kinda looks like leather.

I did this with my Galaxy Nexus back in the day, ended up peeling pretty quickly from going in and out of my pocket. Did feel great though, I did many very light coats and it turned out great.

oh dear

There is no object that exists that looks good plastidipped. There is only "that looks good FOR plastidip......".

I disagree. Dip my car makes some amazing plastidip kits to spray cars with. But using a normal spray can I agree it never looks that great.

Compare it to a car with a legit paint job and see if it still looks amazing, and then do it again in a year.
For the money to dip a car I would go with a full wrap any day of the week.

Personally I think they look just as good if done right most people suck at painting a car, myself included. Dip is so cheap also but then again unless you are one of the few good painters or know one you'll have to pay a pro a lot of money this killing all your saved money. I guess it's all a matter of who you know. I've never had one of my cars done but I have a friend who did it and it looks incredible.

That's debatable on who will charge you what for dip and wrap. Wrap will likely cost you more, probably looking at around 3k.
Some people like to go the cheap route

Did my wheels on my wrx, if you do them light several times it will lay out and look good and smooth, also could gloss it with the glosser and make it shiny but I wouldn't unless it was not pitted peely looking as shiny only accentuates flaws and high or low spots.

Cheap dock alternative

so like many of you fellow Hero owners, I have considered purchasing a dock. However, I feel like most of us refuse to shell out big bucks for what essentially a usb cable mounted in a piece of plastic.
while stumbling across the interwebs last night i found this:

someone posted a DIY dock for ipods that apparently works with heroes as well.
"what fun!" i thought. i quickly tried it out with some heavy paper and realized i needed some sort of card stock to make this actually work.. off to walmart. it was there that i found this little gem
http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Seagate-FreeAgent-Go-Dock/product/B65D8227
it's some sort of docking thing for external hard drives (because it's totally practical). anyway, i inspected it and realized it was exactly what i wanted..
a usb cable inside molded plastic. the best part? it was $3.00 on clearance.
the phone doesn't exactly fit at first but i simply had to cut some of the front plastic lip away and it works GREAT. exactly what i wanted..
for 3 dollars
Really? Only three dollars!? I'm doing this as soon as I get home from school..back to math class for now..
Great find! Looking forward to this!

Yeah They have this on clearance at my walmart too but even with my silicone case off the phone it barely sat down inside, so ti does need some fairly heavy dremel-ing or something to get it to work. I still may go buy one, make myself a little project.
just an added bonus, the leather case fits my western digital external hard drive

yeah i wish i had a dremel, it would have turned out a little better looking. i just used some wire cutters and snipped a little away
I bought the same dock at Best Buy like a monthe ago and just used a knife to trim it to fit the phone. It works perfectly!
After some research into it, I found this over at Android Forums!
http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/17311-lol-hero-stand.html
I think that is pretty creative!
Yeah, I think 90% of us who've been around at least a few months have come across that, but it's still a good LOL anyways!
I bought 2 of these docks but I dont think they came with the leather cases so you got a nice treat there, but I have a dremel and I think I will run it on the back part of the dock rather than the front, so that way when I shove my hero into it it actually fits in that tight space lol. I have the black gel case from best buy for $20 or whatever it was, and a generic screen protector on the screen (it scratches as I swipe my screen LOL!) That's Fellowes products for ya though, right?
can someone post a pic of what this looks like in action?

Interesting looking metal back case

Looks like something right up my ally. I like the idea that the metal can pull some heat of the nexus 7.
I worry the headphone jack will be over covered and block many jacks >.<
What do you all think?

I doubt it'll work as an effective cooling method, unless the case is incredibly well moulded there will be a slight air pocket between the N7 and the case. And even if there is an effective contact method there's nothing to dissipate the heat from the metal part of the case. Is cooling really an issue with the N7 anyway? I've only ever noticed it becoming warm during long gaming sessions, and never to a point where I'd worry it was causing hardware damage (though in the long term it could affect battery longevity).
Looks awesome. I can't stand all these leather folio-type cases. There are already like 20 of them for sale but they all look the same. The only thing is it has no kickstand! ARGH!!! I had an Incipio Silicrylic for my Xoom and it was awesome. Where is this type of case for the Nexus 7!?!?!?!?!
I went ahead and bought it. Looks like good quality judging from the pictures. It doesn't ship out until the 20th though...just an FYI for anyone who was looking to order. I will post back with my opinion of it when it comes.
I don't much care for that big ugly logo on the back. If it were plain, maybe, but as it sits it's a big fat no for me.

I think I know what you mean, I like it but.. it looks cool but it's not very practical, lightweight but adds bulk, good protection for the back but none for the screen etc.

$44 is taking the pith and unless the project is patented the Chinese will be knocking them out for $1 within months.
I'd prefer it if they could get the finished product a bit thinner and pay maybe £5 for one, inc p&p but no more.
$20 for international shipping ?
Bloody hippies, why can't they just come out of the closet and say they are just as capitalistic as bankers ?
I do like it. Looks sweet and would match my Mica Plank watch and Bucket Oakleys
17 days left to go and not fully funded as of today. I already invested in my Treegloo so I can't foresee another case. But for 44 bux isn't too bad.
nexus cutting board.
bamboos float so if you accidentally drop your nexus with that bamboo case in the ocean, you will still be able to retrieve it.
I know it's real bamboo wood, but it looks too much like plastic vinyl flooring and bad 70's wallpaper to me. Has an IKEA feel about it.
Haha, I was about to say how it looks like my Grandma's kitchen.
I actually thought it was a chopping board the first time I saw it!!! LOL
Just don't put your nexus 7 in the kitchen when the case is on.

Chopping board, but looks high quality case
this is actually very nice, I would pay around 10-15$ though, and I would want it a darker bamboo, and one continuous speaker hole so the speaker dividers don't snap, and a microfiber interior
Just put my 44 down. I hope it gets funded, I really like the look of it. Very classsy. Good way to make my Nexus 7 look unique.

And I have to agree: I want that warm fuzzy feeling of doing the whole natural environmental friendly bamboo thing but not at corporate rip off prices!

missing a fornt cover
it would have been nice if it had a front felt cover ( like the grovemade ones for the ipad), or if it was a slip case.

Casemachine Persus

While I don't yet have this device, I plan on getting it soon. Been shopping cases and such (with loads of help from you all) and found this cover. Gotta admit I am intrigued by it. Wondering if anyone has it yet or seen one. Here is the link.

Damn that is a sexy case!! If it wasn't aluminum I'd buy it. Also if it wasn't $69.. thats steep for a case.
That looks futuristicly sick, nice ... too bad it will most likely mess with my imagnet stand and or wireless charging.
Wow this does look really cool, I'd like to have this case.

Maybe there will be more reviews about signal interference by then as well.
That one shouldn't interfere with signal too bad as the aluminum is only in the front bezel, the back is tpu lined polycarbonate which will have no effect on the signals. The one thing it *may* mess with is the spen, but if it's really a1 aircraft grade aluminum the impact should be very minimal.
I like to break stuff!
If they had an option for a holster that would be better.
Wow. Impressive case

Would've liked a black/gunmetal grey front option. Not a fan of the white/silver front plates.
well, don't worry, with at least 2 months until these things are for sale, you never know what they might end up coming out with..

That picture makes it look impossible to remove the Spen..
I wish I could find a valid explanation from a usability standpoint of why they make all the ports with such sharp edges on the aluminium bumpers and such.. Would be better to have a slight curve or angle of depression.

Waterproof Case

I was wondering if anyone knew if any manufacturer was making quality waterproof cases like the Lifeproof or Seidio Obex line cases...
This is one thing I am always jealous of iPhone users.. the wealth of accessories available to them.
I usually go w/o a case, but when I go on a trip, hiking, beach, lake, etc.. I like to have some extra protection for when I take my phone out for some pics/videos..
Alas, it is always difficult to find a quality case in this respect.
I doubt it. No Nexus has never had one that I know of

Just kidding, I'm hoping too. I use my phone for rifle competition and at least a rain and dust proof case would be great. The ol' ziploc "case" gets old.

LOL! Well, you have to do what you have to do. I never thought about using ziploc bags. I will keep that in mind. As for a regular case, I won't be using one. I think the phone is grippy enough to not slip too much if it's like the N5

Reviving this to see if anyone had found anything.
I do use the ziplocks for the beach and whatnot but that is really "splash proof"
What I would like is a diving case, something that is good to a few meters.
This is by far the best option out there IMO
Liquipel
Thanks but I was hoping for a case instead. It doesnt even have ot be hard like a fitted Otter, but if it were a small baggier or something I would want it to be truly waterproof and be able to trigger a camera shutter
What about something like this? My girlfriend use something similar when she went hiking around a river with some small waterfalls with some friends. She said it was great and kept out all the moisture. She was even able to take pictures with it because the bag allowed the touch screen to work.
I may pull the trigger and hope that the fingerprint scanner works through it (it does through a ziplock) because our buttons being on the side makes it really hard to wake the phone.
