Updating vendor firmware Moto X4 - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Is there a firmware that can be flashed without going back to stock? I have LineageOS and want to update the vendor firmware without going back to stock and losing everything.

You can flash a newer version of Lineage.

That doesn't update the vendor firmware. That only updates the OS.

Ah... So what is your current vendor firmware?

The vendor image is included with the rom. The bootloader and radio can be updated in recovery through adb. I haven't seen any zips that flash them. In my experience, updating the radio and bootloader sometimes ends up in bricks that require the blankflash files to recover.

Moving from RR Nougat to oreo

So, I am on RR nougat official firmware(4.15 or whatever lol) but want to move to Oreo....what must I do?
Download OTA from OP site, plug 3T into PC, wipe data and flash ota. When finished you can lock bootloader if you want or follow root guide.

Oh, well in that case, do a full wipe (everything but data if you want to keep your downloaded files), flash the latest OB firmware, the ROM, gapps, whatever else you want (magisk uninstall for unroot?

No need to ever flash any factory images. The firmware is enough.

So basically, I can go back and forth, as long as the firmware matches the ROM? I won't brick going from beta to official firmware and back?

Hardware firmware and "ROM" system is not the same. The firmwares used by the Bluetooth controller and modem hardware is independent of the ROM except for the fact that the application layer apps/phone RIL must be able to communicate with the modem firmware. Therefore it's important to have the matching firmwares in the phone for the ROM bundled binary packages (binaries and firmwares taken from the same original OxygenOS ROM) for them to be as compatible as possible.

How to update unlocked and rooted stock rom?

Hello there.
My G5s+ is suggesting a security update. But since I did unlock the bootloader and rooted it with magisk I did not install it.
My question is: What is the best way to update the phone?
Just flash the new stock rom? And where do I get those?
Thanks in advance.
Nobody here that can tell me how to upgrade?
Should I just flash the new version if I get it somewhere?

Unlocked bootloader will not affect the OTA installation..!
The reason the OTA-Update fails is that one of the boot, system, logo or recovery partitions are changed.
Magisk modifies the boot image.
On rooted device..OTA may brick the device..so avoid OTA installation..!
Reply your current build Number from about phone..
Do a clean flash.

Flash 26-11 full firmware
Where can I find full firmware versions of the stock rom to flash?
My build version is: NPSS26.116-26-4
As I understand it, there are two new security patches since that version? If I'm flashing one of the newer versions, is it just a case of dirty flashing it normally through twrp? No need to factory reset?

If that is the firmware build you need, you could try the firmware here: https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G5s Plus/Stock/ but ensure you download the correct firmware. (credit to: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s-plus/how-to/xt1804-able-to-lock-bootloader-npss26-t3722572) Also, verify it is the firmware you require and was the latest firmware build on your device - please don't downgrade with stock firmware (else you may hard brick with OTA updates corrupting your bootloader)...
Stock OTA updates, as mentioned above, require fully stock firmware - they will not flash with root, modifications or TWRP (and attempting to flash via TWRP may soft bootloop your device). Thus, you must re-flash the stock firmware - you may be able to save your data by omitting the 'fastboot erase userdata' command and you do not have to re-lock your bootloader. However, I'm not familiar with the G5S Plus and I hope another user can provide you with flashing commands.
I would still recommend you make a backup of your device in TWRP and keep that safe, in case you have to wipe your data for stability.

Bootloader locked - cannot flash stock verification error

I flashed the wrong firmware and now my bootloader locked g6 is stuck in bootloader mode. Cannot flash stock due to validation errors. Any ideas to help me fix this?

I really appreciate your response. My bootloader is ineligible to be unlocked. I can flash the bootloader partition. The ones I can't flash are boot, oem, system, gpt, and a few other critical ones. The other issue I run into is the validation error when I do flash a new firmware. The stock won't flash due to security downgrade issues. If there is a way to get around it I would appreciate any and all help!

Unfortunately, you're screwed until newer firmware that's later than 11/18 is released for your Trackfone/Straight Talk G6 or return for exchange for a new phone ?

Root + Ota update

Hey I have p20 pro EU version 6/128
Today I got a new update about Google security.
I want every update run on my phone
But I rooted my device.
I wanted first to ask guys , I tried to update but was unsuccessful. I do not have twrp because of the method I used to root p20 pro didn't allow me having magisk and twrp recovery.
So now if I want to update have to do it manually ?
2 questions
1) which program do I use ?
2) where I can find the firmware Official WITHOUT BEEING CHANGED ANYTHING inside from someone third.
Thanks John
You need to flash the stock bootloader. If you are running Pie and Magisk, you have a modified bootloader. I don't know where to download the stock one. Could probably rip it from a stock Pie firmware.
Me to have twrp on my p20 pro and i cannot update my phone.. Have new update but when I try system update after download, its entering to recovery mode for install the firmware but it cannot coz working twrp and unsuccessful installation.
Me to look for stock recovery for clt-l29 pie

The apk from this post will allow you to download the latest firmware for your model from firmware finder and flash it without needing TWRP or having to flash stock recovery. You will have to re-root afterwards though

Download the current version you are using. Extract recovery_ramdisk.img and flash. Reboot and take OTA update. You will lose root, as I said you have a modified recovery and need stock to take OTA.
Edit - Once your done, patch the bootloader from Magisk and flash to get root again.

Stock Boot image Android Pie?

Does anyone have or can provide stock boot.img for either 2020 jan or 2020 april SP update?
I'm stuck trying to get OTA updates, since mine isn't stock. I tried having stock on slot A or B, but doesn't work now.
Thanks!

Stock Pie or factory stock 7.1.1 N? Does it mean I have to reinstall everything? Apps and settings?
I should make a backup of the boot before I root'n sheet.

There is a stock pie image around here somewhere, if I am not mistaken? Could be flashed without losing any data also.
