Mate 20 Pro 8GB/256GB Question UK - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi All,
I am about to take delivery (Tomorrow) of an imported 8GB/256GB Sim free Mate 20 Pro twilight in the UK.
Is there anything I should be wary of?
I am normally (dare I say it) an Apple fan boy ... There I said it! (Current phone iPhone X)
I have gone for this option for 3 reasons.
1. The added ram and storage space over the 6GB/128GB model.
2. It will good to have the dual SIM functionality, I normally carry around an iPhone X (Personal phone) and an iPhone 6 (Work phone), I would like to do away with 2 phones and just use the one.
3. The camera setup seems fantastic, I do a lot of photography both privately and while at work.
I see a lot of complaints about green bleeding on the screen, is this still a problem on the 8GB/256GB model? If so, what can I check for once it is delivered, ideally for a fast return of it if need be.
I have ordered from an eBay seller who advertises that the packaging is opened and a UK charger is supplied and that the 1 year warranty is with them. They have openly admitted that they are imported from Hongkong and Singapore.
I cannot find another UK seller selling this particular model, the only one selling with the dual sim function is only the 6GB/128GB version on Three with a 24 month contract, which I am not interested in.
Thanks all.

You can download Device Info HW from the play store to see what type of screen you have. BOE vs LG. LG are much more common to hvae the green screen issue develop, but it's not exclusive. And not all LG screen are bad. You can also check the serial number. In the middle will be an 18, letter and another 2 digit number. This stands for 2018, then a - october or b november and the 2 digit date of manufacture. Later dates seem to have a better chance of no defect.
Then download Mate 20 Pro screen tester also from the play store. I think it's just named screen tester. You can then lower the brightness level and go to a dim area. This will show any defect if it exists. Also using performance mode, and using the provided fast charger seemed to develop the problem, or it may have just been a coincidence. I can't say for sure. Good luck! hope you get a good one.

Thanks for the info,
I hope a get a good one too! It's going to be a hard transition from iOS to Huawei, I used to detest this brand in its early days, but WOW!! they have come so far, I am very impressed.
Slightly off topic, is there an easy way to move all my iCloud stored photos and videos etc across to the Huawei?

Does the twilight model have more chance of green screen??

I hope not!

Just turned new phone on.

You should have a good one. Everything indicates you have a good production date and BOE screen.

Still going strong! :good:

I have a 128GB UK version I purchased at launch with an LG display and planned to upgrade to a 256GB international model with a BOE display. I ended up returning the 256GB version because to me the LG display seemed way superior.
At least some of the hysteria generated on XDA about the defective LG displays was nonsense.
It is normal for a folded OLED display to have screen bleed at the edges and it is also normal for a folded OLED display to show lighter around the edges when doing the screen uniformity test that purportedly showed that the displays were defective.
People were making comparisons between the standard OLED displays on Samsung phones and the folded OLED display on the M20P and since the results were different that was supposed to prove the LG displays were defective.
On top of that easily 70% of the initial reports of defective screens on the XDA Gluegate threads came from new XDA accounts that appear to have been opened specifically to report defective displays.
The BOE displays are much less bright than the LG displays at every illumination level including 1 which is why people don't see the scary light bleed eminating from the display edges.
That difference is very obvious if you compare both displays side by side.
The LG display also has much more vibrant colors and way better contrast.

Hi,
Thanks but I totally disagree regarding the screen quality.
After mine arrived I went into a Three shop who let me play around with a 6gb/128gb and side by side my BOE screen vs the LG screen was better. Also the brightness levels are either the same or if anything the BOE screen was slightly brighter.
The only bleed I can see on mine is 2 vertical lines right on the bend and this moves depending how I look at it, indicating that as you rightly say, it isn't screen bleed. The phones with screen bleed (Including the one in the store) was very very obvious and filled nearly the whole screen. Staff claim it is to do with the lights on the shop, but clearly that isn't the case.

You're in the minority. I had the LG and the screen was awful Truly awful. Green which is visible on all LG screens to some degree ruined the screen even at 50% brightness.
This is just your attempt at feeling better for having an LG screen.
My BOE is perfect and better quality in every way than my 6 previous LG replacements, which all had the "green bleed" not "off angle discolouration". Don't try to make out we are all confused, it's you who's confused and spreading nonsense.
Huawei confirmed to EE that the LG screens are defective which is why EE replaced mine 7 times until I got a BOE
BOE is just as bright. Just as much contrast. Just as sharp. Not faulty.

My BOE replacement is pretty good also. Brightness and clarity is great. No dead pixels and no uniformity issues even with screen tester apps.
The LG screen was defective that I had. And many others have had. Not all LG screen in phones are defective, just the implementation in the mate 20 pro's for many people.
I think the edge bleeding is not necessarily normal, but rather a function of an inferior polarizer. The same reason LG and BOE are slightly more off tint when viewed from an angle. That same angle is produced by sending the screen. I still believe Samsung makes the best screens.
I also noticed that the BOE screen has some GHOSTING. If you have a BLACK background and scroll up/down with white text or windows. The white will momentarily be grey/purple lagged until the pixels catch up. But isn't something that will show up with a grey background, I think this is because the on/off function of the pixels is slower than other transitions. NOT a defect, just an observation. Haven't tested on a Samsung or LG screen. Just noticed while evaluating the BOE.
*Edit* seems it's black/grey that shows it.
Just found with a quick search, one that shows the purple lag.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/34t923/is_your_screen_defective_test_for_yourself_by/
Just scroll.
*Edit #2* just tested on my wife's Note 9 and there is just a hairline lag of purple that resolves quicker. Instead of half the grey square.
*Edit #3* just created another thread to discuss the ghosting separately.

This is an inaccurate statement, not all LG screens are affected.
My M20P was preordered before the October launch from O2 UK (so presumably a relatively early model) and I have no issues with any visible green at all at any brightness setting.
As reported by Device Info HW: synaptics-LYA171020-LG-01-18-10-3

"green which is visible on all LG screens to some degree". Nope, not visible at all on mine, which has an LG screen. I've seen examples of the green issue, and mine is uniform black across the screen.
Have a friend who had a BOE screen on his from EE, and the two screens are unnervingly similar. Nobody would look at images on both and state that one is better than the other.
So care to try again?

Got my C80K August production run Nexus 7 colors as good as iPad 3

So I have posted a few times and returned 2 Nexus 7's for slightly off color tones purplish blue link colors on Google and innacurate whites as well as some trailing or blur. No screen lift.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpqfMlWup18 I can't stand the yellowish tint from the one on the left.
Well yesterday I was at Staples with $15 gift card from trading in my used inks and I see a UPS delivery guy come through, I know from Past expereinces UPS delivers the Nexus 7 to Staples.
And So I asked if they had any new Nexus 7's at first they said no but then I pointed out the UPS delivery and a new shipment had just come in of 8GB models.
so for $199-$15= $184 I got my new Nexus 7, I would have not bought it but when I looked underneath and saw the new C80K CSSN I had to go for it.
I get home and I unbox Perfect no dead pixels, Or light bleed, today I compared it to an iPad 3 at the Apple store, and the colors are exact spot on. No off tones greens are not pale or off tint, white is white not blueish. Of course the iPad 3 colors are slightly Vibrant, but you can only tell if side by side. What I wanted was color accuracy, and previous Nexus 7's lacked that. Not sure if this is a new Hynix IPS LCD or the new ones made by SHARP, It has to be IPS by SHARP, because there is no ghosting and even touch response is faster.
Regardless, Google must have really got on ASUS's back to inspect more units per each thousand shipped. Or they sourced some better components.
thanks for the video killa.
i'm still hesitant to pick up a C80 model as some people are reporting defects with those.
maybe should wait for C90.
lol
I justed picked another one up today too and its a c80 but it still has slight screen lift on the left side. I personally dont believe this very minimal lift is a flaw. You can only tell its slightly lifted when you do the horizon test so all is good in my book!

In regards to N7 screen vibrancy I think it's possible for someone to release a contrast control app. I was playing with a photo in a photo edit app and was using the contrast tweak and it is was possible achieve more contrast and made colors pop-out more. Someone serious needs to make an app.
My C80 is flawless.
I don't think there is anything different about the C8 production run.
I had screen lift, which was getting worse so I returned it.
Color production was fine for some colors, bad for some especially green (looked washed / pastel colored). White production was great on my model, blues were good as well.
Speakers were pretty bad, worked decent but at about 85-90% during video playback and music it sounded distorted / crackling.
SPreston2001 - When I received my Nexus 7, C8 I had ZERO screen lift. It gradually came and got worse. Got to the point where it was actually spongy and I could see/feel it move when pressed. Had it on the left side, and on the top left.
Well I would imagine that the don't wait until the next month to make changes. Perhaps quality changes were made in the middle of August, and some have good ones, others don't.
I just ordered mine, so I have fingers crossed.

Honestly I think that too, but I was making a point that the serial just indicates the month, does not indicate that changes were made.
I would imagine that once production is in full swing and the product is released, its not easy to fix problems and keep up with demand.
I went through a number of N7s and rejected quite a few because of the yellow tint.
However, my very first N7 ordered during Google I/O had the same color quality (without the yellow tint) as my latest C7OK unit. In other words, this isn't something that's new to the C8OK, it's really the luck of the draw in general so far.
I think it must be a hit-or-miss in all production runs. My C7OK is perfect.
So let me get this straight....
Having a screen with a slightly yellowish tint - we aren't sure if that is a factory defect that warrants returning?
I only have one Nexus 7, so I can't compare it apples to apples, but I believe mine has a slightly yellowish/warm tint. To be honest I'm not too bothered by it and believe that it makes reading easier on the eyes, but if you guys think that this is a defect, I would think twice about returning it because of that.
I'm still on the fence about whether to return it because of the screen lift problem (about 1mm at most), but combined with this I would certainly think twice about whether or not I should get a later production model. It's not like I would return it because everyone says so, but I certainly don't want something defective if it would lead to problems later down the road, as I plan on having/enjoying this tablet for quite a long time.

No I can tell you right now the c80 units look no different screenwise than earlier units. Maybe others had bad/defectives screens but my c70 looks identical to two other c80 units I just recently purchased. The color issue more likely can be corrected with software tweaks so dont sweat it. Every unit ive seen had a slight yellowish tint including the display models I played with at Staples, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. Enjoy the tablet for what it is and dont give yourself a headache by looking for reasons to return it.
I think they are all the same screens but they aren't tuned properly. Custom Kernels will tweak the color so that they pop more (Trinity does this). I notice a big difference with my screen colors by using EOS rom (comes with a Trinity kernel).
I have been through all of this with my Samsung galaxy nexus, I went through 3 of them, till i found one I liked. It still was not perfect but gave up after that, some had purple tint, one was blue tint and other had yellow tint, some had vertical banding.
I think what it comes down to with electronics specifically all these screens, no two devices will look identical. I am not 100% sure or know why.
My C80 had one dead pixel other then that worked fine, but I noticed it right away since right in center of screen, I exchanged it and this time got no dead pixels, screen looks perfect, I am sure if I look hard enough I can find something wrong somewhere but I won't because once I do hard to go back.

Visible pixels

Just noticed that I can visibly see the LED pixels on the screen.. Anyone else have this happen after having the phone for a bit?
It's 493ppi so seeing 1 OLED pixel seems out there even for most people. I have 20/10 vision correct with contacts and I can't see them even if I try. Maybe if I had a dead pixel I could see it, but normally I can't see anything.

I couldn't get the other phone to focus on the pixels. I put in a request with AT&T for a replacement under warranty.. Just concerned with the build quality of the device since I've only owned it for a couple weeks and have this issue. Its a damn expensive device to have issues like this.

I didn't have that issue on my first Nexus 6 but I did have a camera issue. My second one is excellent no issues so far. I had my first one for 7 weeks before I had to RMA it.
I have perfect vision (my optometrist is jealous) and I can't resolve individual pixels on the display when held at "normal" distances.
After using the Nexus 6 though, I can resolve the pixels on my N7 LTE under certain conditions, after never having noticed it before. Drives me nuts.

Not corrected. I can see them also. It is mostly because of the uneven pentile pixel layout. Coming from an LG G3 which is stripe RGB you will definitely see a difference in quality. G3 is much more ordered and cleaner vs N6 a bit grainy with slight pink side. However, in my opinion it is an illusion because of a vertical vs diagonal layout. In both cases the blend is even.
My guess is that your new unit will not be any different.

My previous device was the G2 and in certain lights you can see the pixels with the screen off, especially outdoors. However, I don't see the pixel arrangement with the screen off on the N6; and I don't recall seeing the pixels prior to today.. Maybe it wasn't evident at first and maybe my eyes are now focused on the pixels, but I don't think you should be able to see RGB light reflections when viewing the phone display straight on. My HP laptop has the same affect when the screen has some wet spots; but the fact is, I can wipe dry those spots and the RGB reflections are gone. I don't have time to go to a brick and motor store to view the phones on display, and the new device should be in my hands mid-week.
Here's a thought - I installed the Skinomi Techskin a few days ago (probably a week now). Wondering if this screen protector is causing this?

So are you talking about seeing pixels when the screen is on or when the screen is off?
The die of the pixel arrangement will be visible under certain angle in just the right light when the screen is off.
Also, screen protectors can cause this to be amplified for sure. It all depends on the quality of that screen protector.
This characteristic is just one of those things you have to put up with when you're dealing with resolution cheating samsung crappy pentile amoled displays. I was hoping that the QHD would be enough to overcome the pentile, but that doesn't seem to be entirely the case for some.
At least (if tmo ever decides to actually ship it) it won't be as bad as my last cheating samsung amoled... a 4" 800x480.
I figured going into this, that the display would be pretty crappy. Too big, and amoled pentile... but after suffering with non-nexus devices for a few years (last one was a "nexus zero" -- ADP1...), I just don't feel like fighting with the thing, so fact of being a nexus > crappy display.

Really bad quality screen on Mi 8

Got my Mi 8 from chinese aliexpress seller last week and noticed right away after turning the phone on that colors look washed out. Did some more testing later and noticed that some parts of display are really unevenly lit when using brightness under 50%. Also it has visible vertical lines in low light and low screen brightness. I get color banding in almost all gradients in images. I compared Mi 8 to Nexus 6 that I have been using 4 years now daily and the nexus screen is far better than mi 8. No banding, colors look great and I dont even get any uneven areas in low brightness.
Has anyone had any quality problems with mi8 screens?
I am yet to get response from seller. I would have bought the phone from local store with better warranty but they are yet to get any phones in stock.
My device is also affected by vertical color banding, more people have this issue.
Could give some examples?

May be a faulty display. Other people had the same problem:

I have not had any screen display/quality issues with my Mi8, however i have the newer 8gb/128gb phone version. There was a test done on the Mi8 screens, and they are Samsung OLED screens made by Samsung -the same ones in their phones (just cooler color tuning through software). Here is an in-depth screen review on the Mi8:

I would have to agree that you probably have a defective unit, or maybe you have a refurb/repaired phone that they replaced the screen with a cheaper version?

I have been contacting last 3 months every week to Aliexpress support trying to get this solved, seller won't respond and for some reason I can't get warranty, they wont tell me why. My old Nexus 6 died a while ago and I had to use this piece of crap now. Below you can find picture regarding the problem. Its not glare from external light - screen has this inequality and banding can be seen too. Compared to my nexus 6 of course. Both phones at ~50 % brightness in complete darkness.
I might try sell this phone for as faulty or get some kind of compensation from seller and then buy 6T. No more xiaomis' for me.

GALAXY Note 9 Screen quality?

I have in the past used Note 1 then upgraded to Galazy S4 and now Note 9. When I tried all these devices in store before buying. Their screens appeared to be excellent. But once I bought them and used them for a few days I slowly started to see issues with screens. The note 1 I had slowly developed this redness on right edge of the phone over time visible only on grey background under low brightness. I got it replaced 3 times but then gave up. After that when I switched to S4 it had this reddish top and greenish bottom visible only on low brightness and white or light grey background. I got it replaced once and again got a similar screen with the same issue plus overall slightly yellowish tint on the whole screen. So once again I gave up and was using the same device from past 5.8 years. Now when I tried the Note 9 in stores i just loved the screen and ordered it. Now after using it for a few days I find on light backgrounds that the screen is slightly brighter at the bottom than the top. In fact it's like it's whiter at the bottom than at the top. I was thinking are there amoled screens which have uniform whiteness/brightness across the screen. In all other aspects the screen is perfect to me but this issue once I know it's there is somewhat annoying to me. How is your screen ?

dont think they had oled on the note 1 or s4 yet. but i can assure you that since Samsung made OLED, these screens are the best out there. and to tell you the truth, any 2018 screen would trump what you may have experienced in the past.

The note 1 and s4 both had super amoled screens. The screen on note 9 is certainly much better but not perfect as I have mentioned in my first post.

Most people wouldn't notice.
I've had a SGSII, a Note 4 and I'm currently using a Note 8. All of SAMOLED displays have been really good with no issue as you have described.

You do know that Sony is failing in the smartphone department right? They currently in the same situation as LG. Unfortunately, the screen won't save their smartphone division.
Edit: Playstation is where Sony gets their money these days. Sad to see.
"A growing thorn in Sony’s side is its mobile handset business which counts its revenue, primarily from its Xperia line of handsets under the Mobile Communications segment. Sales of $6.88 billion were down 5% from the previous year and the group posted a loss of $255 million.
The mobile communications group guided to a further 12% drop in sales for fiscal 2018 and a projected loss of $138 million. The group does see some light at the end of the tunnel – 5G wireless technology."
They gave been losing money year over year, quarter over quarter man. Their lack of innovation is dragging them down like LG.
By the way, last edit. Sony didn't make that OLED screen. LG Display did.
Displaymate rated the Note 9 as having the best display ever on a mobile phone. Just as they did for the S9, and Note 9 before that. Pretty much every new top of the line Samsung device trumps the best there was before it.... and the best there was has pretty much always been on a Samsung device. Sammy makes the best displays.
In any case, you can find other very good displays on other phones that look pretty much as good, but when a place like Displaymate puts a "best ever" sticker on a device's display, it is for a reason. Note 9 display is not much different than the Note 8 display for instance, but it is enough of an improvement to warrant the top billing from Displaymate.

that article never named its source. could have just as well been sony propaganda. love how the article starts with " claims a survey.." of what? 2 or 3 clueless dudes? Maybe Karandeep Singh got payed a couple of rupees..or even a sony phone out of it
edit:
and now since what's on the internets is always "true", people acctualy believe anything nowadays if its well framed and worded.

Actually,it appears to be nothing more than a marketing company hired by Sony:
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-xz3/
https://www.strategyanalytics.com/
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=1051783
All companies on this level tend to use such garbage "research" for marketing, all claims like this should come with an e-coupon code for a pinch pound of salt.
What's worse is peeps getting their panties in a wad, feeling the need to either rationalize their choice in phones, trolling those that have "x" phone,& the fanboi behavior that's fueled by the fluff articles.
The Note 9 is a nice phone, got one myself.
Is it the absolute best out there? In the eye of the beholder & nothing more.
Others choosing something else is equally fine, one would be hard-pressed to actually find a truly terrible phone w/o intentionally seeking one out.
Note 9 earpiece smudges won't go away
Hey I guys I bought the note9 from 6 days ago. One day I was just rubbing the top bezel ( the space that has selfie camera, iris, led, ect) suddenly I saw 2 smudges, one above the earipeice, one under. I kept rubbing it and it doesn't go away. I believe that maybe when I was rubbing my hands were sweating so water entered beneath the glass. Here's a picture I posted here so maybe you'll get what I mean. If anyone has this issues or fixed please share it here. If the attachment is not working please say.
Thanks

Take it back & exchange for a new one.
Any attempts to fix it on your own will likely make it worse.
Don't waste a minute waiting for home remedies here, utilize the return/exchange policy for a free replacement before that period expires.

I opened Samsung browser with no tabs open white screen. Slightly yellow or warm color. Looks pretty even but if I were to be extremely critical top side is a more darker maybe.
The white is definitely not like the note 8 white . Using amoled photo with slight blue light setting.

My Note 9 has an even white color across the whole screen. It also has a bit truer whites than my Note 8. Part of that may be that my Note 8 is now a year old, but overall I believe Samsung tuned the contrast down a bit on the Note 9 from the Note 8. Just to be clear, I am using the exact same display settings on both phones.... so I am getting an accurate comparison of the Note 9 vs Note 8. There is very little difference, you'd have to literally be looking at them side by side to notice the slight difference.

looks as if you have a glass or plastic film. the cutout of the speaker is to high for it being the original glass
Compare home screen icons on the note 8 and note 9. Let me know what difference you see. I see the note 9 not being as sharp. But then on the same token , the note 9 like I said earlier is more natural and appeasing to the eyes.

Exactly that is what I am trying to say. The screen is beautiful with the best whites I have seen on a amoled screen and its pretty even as well. But my eyes seem quite sensitive to screens and I also feel the top is somewhat darker.

What are my odds of getting a flawless AMOLED (uniformity issues, etc) for Mi 8?

Just requested the return of my Mi 8 due to an AMOLED issue.
Shades of dark gray aren't uniform. This is visible in darker environments (like in the bedroom at night).
This is most visible on Reddit dark mode. I can see it on Spotify if I look hard.
---
I'm waiting for the e-commerce store's response. They claim that this has to be validated via their tests.
Also, I'm wondering what my odds are with AMOLED... If I get a replacement, will I get a significantly better display or potentially find another set of issues if I look.
What do you reckon are my odds if I go through with the replacement?
OLED screens in general are more problematic displaying dark shapes of grey compared to IPS panels. This has to do with manufacturing tolerances of individual light-emitting pixels at low current. This, in particular, is the reason why most OLED panels employ PWM (flickering) to control brightness, applying higher current in short pulses compared to applying constant low current. If you search for "LG G Flex 2 screen uniformity", you'll see some pretty extreme example of this.
That said, with each individual OLED panel and depending on your personal tolerances, your luck may vary. My Mi 8 is very acceptable when displaying dark shades of grey (I don't notice the problem even if it is there). If you received my Mi 8, there is a chance you could spot the issue because your personal tolerance of the problem is lower than mine. My wife uses an LG G Flex 2 and never notices the (very real) problem with its display uniformity (I do!)
In other words, most users are happy with their displays, but it does not mean all of them got a perfect one.

That's normal. It happens with every AMOLED display. I have a Samsung S8 and it happens in the same way.
It's something common, don't be scared.

"Aren't uniform" meaning you cannot tell the difference in the shades? Grey is a very challenging and controversial color for AMOLED. Use the Display Tester app by Braintrapp from Google Play and try the "Gamma detection" app when you have your device, you'll see it displayed horizontally. Swipe up and down (with the device of course held horizontally, or "landscape" mode) to change the brightness and look at how it displays grey at different brightness levels. Very weird huh?! It's perfectly normal.
I guess you can say it is a "grey area" for AMOLED...
Crossvxm said:
I would have to say you're in for quite a gamble. Most people aren't keen to spot "defects" on AMOLED displays. I am. Coming from a person who has owned many phones of both main screen technologies, I can tell you that the displays can vary even on identical devices. I've owned Galaxy devices with some having a red hue and others not, same when I had two Nexus 6, one had a slightly red hue and seemingly lower brightness at max, the other was perfect. Sometimes manufacturers have different facilities making the same screen, and differences arise. If you do get a replacement, you just have to hope it's from the better batch.
Now to get a better understanding, what do you mean when you say "aren't uniform?" Could you describe a little what you mean and where/when you notice the issue (e.g. videos, pictures, etc.)
Also, did you attempt to set a static color contrast within the Settings? The display does change tones automatically by default. According to the Display Tester app by Braintrapp from Google Play, it seems that our display does not support Wide Color Gamut. Some of the hues seem to be a tiny bit off according to it on my display, and this is coming from someone who owns a Mi 8 with a "perfect" AMOLED display.

Every oled screen is uneven, clearly visible on dark gray backround in dark room. Even samsungs don't have perfect screens.

I have the same issue with pixel 2 xl
I've owned the nexus 6p, OnePlus 5, 5t, 6 and the mi 8.
Tbh I think the mi8 has the worst AMOLED display of all of them when it comes to dark backgrounds in low light. It has like a "jelly scrolling" effect
My avatar on YouTube is solid black and I use the dark mode of the YouTube app....when I'm scrolling through comments i leave on videos with the screen brightness down low there's a noticable trailing effect.
It's not enough to make me want to return it but it's a problem I didn't have with any of the other devices I listed.
I prefer AMOLED to LCD any day.

I bought the op6 with PayPal credit. I bought two and with the op6t coming I decided to sell them instead of paying the remaining balance. At first I intended to go with 6t but in the end I thought I'd try something different.
Since the Nexus 6p all of my phones have been stock/near stock. I thought I'd try something else. I like stock better because I feel there's a learning curve to miui if you're used to stock but overall I like the mi 8. I wish I would've waited for the mi mix 3 though. The sliding design is nice.
The full screen gesture navigation is the best button free navigation I've tried. I haven't used the buttons since nearly the beginning of owning it. It'll suck when I decide to use a non-xiaomi device. I didn't like OnePlus or stock gesture navigation
well i gotta say, i was afraid to get an bad Screen, too. Especially after reading threads like this. But i can say my screen is perfectly fine. even in lowest brightness. Yes The grays are not that gray as on the screen as on lcd, but thats the same with all amoled screens, and you only see it when u have the exact same app on an lcd screen beside your phone. For the rest its super fine.
Yeah. After 3+ months of using the phone, I’m learning to just enjoy it naturally without nitpicking details that don’t practically affect my everyday experience.
If we treat the phone like a baby, there’s an endless list of concerns.
But if you really just use it like you would (without analyzing scenarios that don’t come naturally), so many of these issues don’t matter at the end of the day.
I think the green is much more problematic on amoled displays (on low brightness / Oled Tool)

That's exactly what I found.
Now, having said that, we don't use oled tools for practical purposes.
I basically don't notice the issue at all under normal use.
In other words, if I never did nitpick at first, 3 years of normal daily use could pass without me noticing the issue at all.
