Infinite bootloop after update global stable - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hello guys, I really need your help!
I've just spent 5 hours trying to fix my Xiaomi Mi 8 bootloop.
Everything began this morning when I started a common update. After the reboot I got just an infinite bootloop on the white word "MI" that i get every time I turn the phone on.
I bought the phone from China with a Global rom already installed and the bootloader unlocked. I can access fastboot.
Here what I did today, until now:
-I decided to install a TWRP, only the 3.2.3.0 worked after many attemps with other versions.
-From twrp I flashed the last xiaomi eu stable. Result? Bootloop was still there.
-I flashed the last xiaomi eu weekly. Result? Bootloop there.
-I decided to go through Mi Flash.
-I installed the tool and downloaded the last Global Stable for fastboot installation.
-I flashed the global from Mi Flash. Result? Bootloop is here.
I don't really know what to do. Every time i did factory reset from twrp. I tried also to make the factory reset from fastboot command. I tried everything I could find online. No solution, same infinite bootloop.
Any suggestion? Thank you very much
Simone

Did your find a solution? I have the same problem.

Hi, after many attemps I installed the xiaomi.eu!
I could install china stable from mi flash, but I was not satisfied with a lot of Chinese apps. After that I installed again the twrp and I could put the ROM pixel experience. After pixel experience if I am not wrong I tried another twrp (I need to check) with which I could install the Xiaomi EU!!! Now I don't want to update anymore
If you need help I can check the version of the last twrp I have used! I guess it was an anti backroll protection because I could install the last china dev but nothing else, neither from that twrp.
If you need help ask,
Bye bye

is it because of encryption issue? from the first day i use mi8, i always on decrypt.
my step to flash any rom is:
1. flash rom
2. magisk
3. flash dm-verity
never had bootloop issue

flashing dm-verity should fix it.

Hi I have/had the same problem!
- The only rom I got working was the "xiaomi.eu_multi_MI8_V10.0.11.0.OEACNFH_v10-8.1." which I stil use.
- I also can get the the official "dipper_global_images_V10.0.2.0.OEAMIFH_20180912.0000.00_8.1_global" rom working but it stil keeps updating to the latest version after a while. If that happends I get the bootloop problem.
So I'm stuck at an android 8.1 .EU rom and I'm scared to update to the latest stable android 9.0 rom because of the bootloops and/or to brick it and to lose al my data again.
So my questions:
1 - do you use the latest stable ROM, (which one) at the moment?
2- how did you install it?
3 - which TWRP did you use to flash the .EU rom?
4 - I use an 8.1 .EU rom. Do you think I can update without losing al data again (my wife will kill me if I have to reinstall again)?
5- Any idea why we have this problem?
I really like to update to android 9.0
I just saw (!) that they released an official version of TWRP for the Mi 8 at https://twrp.me/xiaomi/xiaomimi8.html
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have solved using a different TWRP with which I could install the xiaomi.eu weekly! I tried a lot of twrp until that one worked

Where can I find this twrp version? Anders on which exact version are you on?

Mi Note Pro - Problems with Custom Rom installation

To all experts,
I try to flash my Mi note pro since days without success. I have unlocked my bootloader, installed TWRP. First problem is, I'm not able to flash every TWRP recovery. I managed only the TWRP from cofface. The version from Ivan didn't work for me. I made it from my Linux laptop with fastboot. The main problem is, that I can only flash Xiaomi.eu ROMs. Ivans ROMs or the lineageis testrom ends that the phone starts with the mi logo and after seconds, it turns of.
Need ur support for that. Thx.

Flashing chinese Mi9 issues and getting stuck in bootloop

Hi all,
So over the last day I have decided to install twrp and flash a new rom on my Chinese Mi9. Previously I have locked the bootdoader and installed the global rom. I have adb set up correctly and all relevant PC drivers.
So this is what I did and the problems I encountered. Hoping I can get some feedback as to what may have happened.
1 - Installed TWRP (mauronofrio) then it would get stuck on splash screen. Was told to install TWRP (LR.Team/wzsx150) which I did and it worked. I formatted and wiped my drive to get rid of encryption.
2 - I flashed EU rom (after editing script) using TWRP (wzsx150) then after install it would get stuck in bootloop.
3 - I installed TWRP (mauro) then installed EU rom and success, everything worked well. But I found with this EU rom, most of my apps would not install from play store or my Mi restore would not work, there were apps everywhere. Also EU rom was very buggy flashed it again and still the same issues so decided to go back to global rom. Too many apps would crash for no reason and even clearing cahce/data in app settings would not fix it.
4 - I flashed global rom on TWRP (mauro) and installed fine. But when restarted phone it got stuck in bootloop and couldn't get out of there. Had to use Miflash to flash the rom and start from scratch. I now lost TWRP and got Mi recovery back because of this.
5 - I flashed TWRP (mauro) again and tried global rom once again, flashed magisk etc and once installed rom, the thing got stuck in bootloop again.
6 - I now have flashed TWRP (wzsc150) and have installed global rom and it is installing and restoring fine. Once global rom has installed I have lost TWRP. I am also stuck in bootloop and can't get out.
So basically no TWRP works on my phone.
I have managed to flash phone back to original condition with the global rom. On a positive it still works and the storage is unencrypted.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions why my Chinese Mi9 doesn't like TWRP (mauro) and it always gets stuck in bootloop. I just want root access on my phone and google pay to work with unlocked bootloader.
Thank you
This seems to be the theme with 8GB version? I have this version too and makes me worried. I still have about 5 days till unlock insha Allah
These TWRP for Mi 9 are quite beta (no working decryption, no proper backup and restore for example).
If you want to have it, you must use custom rom like EU one.
Stock rom auto re-flashs Mi recovery, period.
BTW, I don't find any unbearable bug the EU rom (most of guys here also have no problem with it), just reinstall the app, backup program such as Titanium backup may introduce a lot of errors...

The apps were fresh installation from Google restore. Even when I deleted them and installed again they still crashed. Gmail, Waze and even checking software version in settings all made it crashed.
So now if I were to install twrp and euro rom again, it shouldn't delete my user data as I no longer need to unencrypt my storage right? Will euro rom just overwrite global rom and keep all my data

Do you think when I installed this rom I never did a wipe and all my apps were there on start up. Do you think this might be a cause of certain apps crashing?

...for example I have EEA variant and lastly using Global Dev rom. I still geting regulary updates even when I have TWRP (mauronofrio) and root. Only before every update I need flash stock boot and recovery. Then update phone and then flash back TWRP and Magisk. All the time working my old Magisk + Xposed (Ed) modules working without reinstalling them. Little out of topic here but just wanted to say

So with a custom rom like EU rom, everytime there is an update do you have to flash back twrp etc? Do the updates work OTA?
Rommco05 said:
I was talking about official Global Developer rom. To answer your questions. With EU you always need reflash Magisk for sure, if also twrp I don't remember. Yes EU have OTA updates but only full packages and need be flashed over twrp so all bloadware is back.

But when you flash back, you don't wipe the cache/data and lose all your stuff do you?
Ok, managed to flash to EU rom with no problems. Works great. Will updating with the updater delete my stuff?

Thank you for all your help with this Ted. It has helped a lot.
So I did the OTA update this morning successfully, but noticed before doing the flash in TWRP, there was a message saying it had to do it that way due to my device been encrypted. That's funny because I have formatted then wiped the drive before installing the rom. Is this a true message?
Always do a full wipe when flashing to a different variant of miui since current twrp has issues on decryption. I also had tons of problems from just resetting only without wiping data. For example flashing to eu from china stable everything worked from just doing factory reset. But google play cannot download any app that has an obb attached for some reason. Most likely problems with file encryption so i did a full wipe now everything works properly.
I'm not able to make TWRP work, its successfully install on terminal and when I reboot and hot volume Up key it bringing me to FASTBOOT mode, and if I do restart system, it and then hold Volume Up key, its again the stock Recovery.
My device is Chinese 8GiB 128GiB. any help will be appreciated. I want to install Xiaomi.eu rom as my current stock Chinese rom with google app giving me horrible battery life, standby battery drain is too bad.

You need to do it quickly.
After successfully installed TWRP in fastboot, hold power button to power off (it will restart instead of completely off), when the screen gone black, very quickly hold the volume up button, hold it until you see the twrp screen.
If you are not quick enough, the phone will boot up and stock recovery will be automatically intstall back, you have to start over: install twrp again.

Xiaomi mi 8 se global/eu rom

Hi guys, I'm new here. I haven't been playing with custom roms for a while now but I have xiaomi mi 8 se for which I would like to set up a custom global/eu rom. I read a lot of posts here and tried to do it but without access. First I applied to unlock my device via Xiaomi procedure, waited X hours and then went to download and install rom from here: https://mifirm.net/model/sirius.ttt#global
That's when I realized that I have to find fastboot rom for this way of flashing and there isn't one for global or eu version. After a bit more reasearch I decided to do it on my own with TWRP (just found out how that works). So I downloaded one from here: https://mifirm.net/model/sirius.ttt#twrp and after some time (and a lot of small steps I learned along the way) I got it installed.
Then I downloaded non fastboot EU rom and tried to flash it through recovery(twrp). Problem here is that the whole recovery is in chinese so I had to watch other people videos and compare location of buttons so I'm not sure I pressed everything correct. After "flashing" phone stuck in fastboot boot loop. Here I panicked I bricked the phone and downloaded "normal" chinese rom with fastboot and flashed that MIU flash tool. This went well so now I have factory reset phone with the same/similar rom I had before. I know this is an old device and probably there isn't some easy solution but I would love to hear if someone with more experience can give me some advice how to correctly flash eu rom (non fastboot). Also is there some version of twrp that isn't chinese and it would be perfect if I can flash twrp with fastboot (if thats possible).
For recovery: Link
Recommend to factory reset from TWRP before flashing any ROM. And speaking of custom ROM, can I recommend to you the Pixel Experience? It's the most solid ROM right now. If you are interested, you can try out.
Hello NesaiOmachi, thank you very much for your advice. Pixel experience looks great, my only prerequisite is that it has google play services support so will definitely check it out. I found this page with ROM downloads, can you please also point me which version to choose and which twrp (from your url) is compatible with it?
I assume I have to install twrp with ADB tools from my PC (already have that setup up), then I enter TWRP and do something like this: https://nerdschalk.com/how-to-install-a-custom-rom-using-twrp-recovery/
EDIT: just saw there are instructions at pixel experience site, awesome! Ignore my message, will try with latest twrp and latest pixel rom and see how it goes

Fastboot loop (need help)

Hi, my Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite was running the latest version of MIUI 12 Global and I wanted to install Evolution X 5.6 ROM on it. Unfortunately when I tried flashing the Evolution X ROM I got an error saying that I needed firmware version 10 for it to work. By that time I had already wiped system, cache and data and for some reason TWRP isn't installed anymore either. So, basically my phone is now stuck in fastboot and sometimes it turns off and then back into fastboot.
At this point I'm not sure what to do since I don't want to make it worse, but I can still access my phone via adb. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

My Mi 9 doesn't update from V12.0.5.0.QFAMIXM

Hello dear all, my Xiaomi Mi 9 Global was stopped to the last OTA V12.04.xxx, no new download!
I decide to download the last glolbal recovery version from here(V12.5.xxx) but it doesn't work, so tried the version in the middle V12.0.5.xxx and the update from the recovery tool embedded on the Mi 9 it worked fine.
This is the last versione I sucessufully installed on my smartphone, it doens't receive anything from OTA enad it still doesn't accept the last Global Recovery ver. V12.0.5.0.QFAMIXM....evrytime I receive "Impossible to verify the update....." and "Impossible to install this stable ROM"
Do you know why?!?!
I was stuck with the same weird issue. I finally unlocked the bootloader, and flashed the last official ROM 12.5 with mi flash tool. Now I also installed a custom ROM finally!
I had the same Problem ...
I have solved my Problem with a Fastboot Rom Installation too
There is no "BEST" alternative of Stock ROM. I have tried many custom ROMs but at last I stopped on Stock ROM and its working like Sun and Moon...!!
Can anyone help?
I have the same problem, but a little worse. I can't unlock the bootloader.
In fastboot mode, the phone isn't recognized. I tried with another phones and everything is ok, on a another pc and nothing.
When I try to flash any rom, all official, says it's no possible to flash.
