How to unlock the Mate 20 Pro bootloader (international versions LYA-L29 and LYA-L09) - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

It's now possible to unlock the bootloader of the Mate 20 Pro, even the international version.
Prerequisites:
1. FunkyHuawei credit or pass.
2. Windows PC
3. Bootloader code from unlockhuawei.com
Steps:
1. Use the 'new HiSuite method' to install from the LYA-Global section, version 9.0.0.171
(These instructions: https://pastebin.com/raw/Db5ZSyqu )
2. Now you can enable "OEM Unlock" from the developer options. (It wasn't possible without step 1)
3. Reboot to fastboot mode, use fastboot command:
fastboot oem unlock CODE
(replace CODE with your code)
Now the bootloader is unlocked! Time for development!

The update can be done with one credit. Or you can buy an unlimited pass which includes the bootloader code.
If you're planning to play around with an unlocked bootloader, an unlimited pass is probably the best choice, so you can recover whenever you brick it.

Now I'll air as it's NOT about support with FunkyHuawie it's ALL about "The Money" such is the world today. No favours nor acts of kindness.
I have an account registered with my bricked P20 Pro, they will swap (as per terms you can only have 1 device per account) they will swap but are asking £50 for doing so. It's Christmas I'm yes skint but also lost my job recently (boohoo, right) not their fault I know.
For something I paid a nice some of money for an unlimited pass , they won't even show kindness they just want more money (plus my P20 is bricked) so that unlimited pass I currently have is useless unless I buy another P20 Pro.
I would advise Xda to consider it's position to allow this kind of behavior from such a bunch. I really asked kindly to but Money that's all it's about, not helping in the spirit of humanity or kindness, compassion ....., Ache rant over, I'm happy enough with my Mate 20 stock, but heads up don't expect kindness seriously.

The rules of the unlimited pass are made pretty clear on the site -- it's attached to the phone. You can transfer it to another person if you sell your phone. You can't transfer it to another phone, you need another pass for a different phone.

@duraaraa
Thanks for the information !!
I bought one credit ($18) , and manage to update my LYA-09 (C106) to the latest globlal ( LYA-LGRP2-OVS 9.0.0.171 )
You have to be really careful when following the installation steps
I updated because everyone else was receiving an update with some good stuff and benefits , and my carrier would probably release it on april 2019 ( its to much waiting time )
After the udpate your data and configuration remains the same , so dont worry thinking that you have to tweak all over again ( like a new phone )
Maybe later I will unlock my bootloader , but right now I find the cost kind of expensive ($55) and the waiting time can be extended to 14 days , so ....

What can't we do with an unlocked bootloader: auto updates? What else?

Since being able to unlock the bootloader is a new thing, it's very much unexplored as of now. Theoretically, things like rooting or installing custom roms should be possible.

Successfully updated my device through the FH method using only 1 credit and my bootloader is now unlocked ??
Now to wait for custom roms and twrp ?

Oh man now that I just got my OP6T... Let's cancel that eBay auction

so, when will the rebranding from L29 to AL00 be available ?

Shame.. Is it likely at some point?

hi everyone.... excuse me for my bad english.
in italy if i buy a mate 20 pro with operator it's possible use only one sim (the other is disabled). can i enabled the second? how?

As my post has been removed although my point was valid. I will show MY kindness and offer my unlimited pass to anyone that has a P20 Pro.
I can't use it FunkyHuawei won't transfer without further request for money, so here is my offer however I don't know if they will fullfil it tbh.
But it's my act of kindness. Something that is clearly lacking in this "Civilised" world.

Is there any benefit of doing that right now without any roms available? Bootloader unlock would not mean it's rooted automatically and ready for things like magisk, right?

Android 8 and P8 lite 2017

Hello, I have some questions about this phone, it will be long ...
My old Xperia XZ died after a foamy party ... so I bought this phone, and it's pretty cool.
So I would now go to android 8, surely LineageOS or EMUI8 I do not know yet.
So, do I really need to rebrand my phone for project treble?
Some links say no, some Rom allow activating treble, and other links say that you have to go through the official Rom EMUI8
I have to use EMUI recovery or TWRP?
Where can I find EMUI8 for Huawei?
How do I unlock my boot loader?
because the links I found his death ...
It was a lot easier on Xperai: D
Thank you for your help, as much on Xperia I know everything but there I am lost with this different recovery, with EMUI ... with the trick honor / Huawei
And I'm french, so not sure that I'm very readable, do not hesitate to tell me
Hi,
Just wait a little bit it should be Rolling soon in all countries officially (UK, Spain among others countries already got it so it might be soon for France )
If you're really in hurry there are multiple guides here that explains different ways to update manually. Not sure though if you can still unlock the bootloader...

How to unlock the bootloader on the Honor Play

How to unlock the bootloader on the Honor Play
If you're looking for a way to unlock the bootloader of your Honor Play, you have probably stumbled on a lot of different articles talking about how Honor has discontinued their bootloader unlock program for all of their phones. Even thought the program has been discontinued, there is still a way for XDA Users to get a code for their Honor Play.
Recently, Honor has relaunched the program as a trail for XDA Users. This thread will allow you to fill out a simple form and provide your email address. After a few weeks, Honor will send you an unlock code.
Thread: Honor Re-Opens bootloader Unlocking on a Limited Trial for XDA
Once you've got your bootloader unlock code, follow these steps.
Turn on USB Debugging and OEM Unlock
On your Honor 7X:
Go to Settings > About
Tap on Build Number seven times
Go to Developer Options
Check Enable OEM Unlock
Check USB Debugging
Unlock VIA ADB
If you haven’t installed ADB yet, see this thread for instructions.
Plug your phone into your computer VIA USB
Type the command ‘adb reboot bootloader‘ and hit enter.
Once in bootloader mode, type ‘fastboot oem unlock [unlock code]‘
Follow the on-screen instructions

Another way of unlocking bootloader
Actually i have contacted honor care in this regard and the guy told me atleast in india we can unlock our bootloaders or get an unlock code by visiting our near authorized service center with original bill(invoice) and the device. If someone is very eager to unlock and live near a authorized service center ,it was worth a try and make everyone know that it's true or not.
Attention guys... Do any of you tried to read Bootloader unlock code from phone with HCU Client, its paid one but it do the job well...
I mean are you guys having an unlockable phone ?? i heard that huawei pushed firmwares with no xloader partition, if thats the case, Unlock code wont help you... until you get a unlockable firmware in your phone....
Am confirming as i wanna buy this device but without BL unlocked, its useless for me..... Someone check it kindly...
Regards...
Why you bother to unlock the bootloader? At the moment, there is no single custom recovery and no custom ROM available for Honor Play.

Don't think there was ever any intention to give them , asking support other questions there quick to reply when asked about bootloader code never heard back from them , I'm not surprised tbh , I'm afraid development for future honor phones will be near non existent , nice devices but without any development I will no longer purchase honor products we should all boy cot honor till they provide unlock , I like there devices but glad I sold it , let's hope they wake up and realise when there sales are down it was a mistake [emoji23]
Good luck with this device [emoji1696][emoji106]

Firmware version for BL029 BL Unlock

Sorry guys, but I'm still confused about which FW versions can be BL unlocked and which can't.
I'm not familiar with the Huawei versioning in the naming of the firmwares.
Specifically, it's BLA-L29 8.0.0.150 C432 that I am wondering about. If someone feels like explaining the versioning in a sentence or two (or point me in the right direction), that would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

I think the version system is different from how you listed. Some people talk about the 8.0.0.xxx With xxx being some thing 142 or 145 but the guides mostly use C432 and c636 for example. This C number you can see on the about software page in you phone as well as the xxx. It usually appears after the version like, 8.0.0.xxx(Cyyy).
The part I'm struggling with is that I have a two sim phone, BLA-L29 and most people her are loading BLA-L09 (single sim version) of software. i don't know if its compatible. I think they are as I've never seen an issue with any other phone in the past. People use to use the dual sim add on's and you never had to update the software to recognize the new sim tray. So I think I can load BLA-L09 but I'm not sure. Still doing my homework.
Thanks, I think I got it figured out now.
According to posts here in the forum, the unlock is not possible from versions >= 8.0.0.145 (which can be downgraded to ...142).
What wasn't clear to me, was the way the versioning works. But apparently it's simply counting up, so 145 is a later version than 136.

C432B142 is the last firmware where DC worked (for C432, other custs have other build numbers). B145 can be downgraded to B142. B146+ use new bootloader which can't be downgraded. So on B150 you will not be able to get an unlock code. I did however see some site which claimed it could get unlock code for any firmware, even on new devices. I'm not sure how reliable it is though and it cost €30

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Australian Discussion

I thought I'll make this thread for the Australian Mate 20 Pro Owners.
As we may all know already, Optus and other ozzy telcos are extremely slow with releasing there updates for our devices, it's very frustrating as we have to wait for important updates and fixes.
In this thread I'll love to hear from other Australians and there opinions on this matter. Also to discuss firmwares that have been flashed from other regions on our devices etc
All topics about our devices are all welcome
I have the L29. Currently with Telstra (Prepaid)
My last OTA update was 168 which I received around the end of December.
I recently unlocked my bootloader and updated to 182 following a guide in these forums
I also rooted my device using the same guide.
I don't really have too much to say on the speed of our updates, as I've only had my Mate 20 Pro since the 28th of Dec. It's my first android phone and I'm loving it so far. I've been wanting to get away from Apple for years, but the jailbreaking scene kept me with them. Now that the scene is almost dead I decided it was time.
So now I'm getting my head around rooting.
LYA-L29 here.. C636 SPCSEAS region on mine.
Have done the fh 171 update.. Now on unlocked bootloader and rooted 182. Tried the custom 182 rom but no joy with magisk in hiding safety net stuff for Google pay.. However with the stock 182 I was able to hide the safety net checks with magisk help.
What might be of interest to people to is I've been able to downgrade back to 171 and relock bootloader which previously was said could not happen. Back on 182 though now.
Currently running an L29 bought from eBay AU but originated in the UK as far as I can tell (based on the charger mains plug)
Latest version It'll update to is .168, it started off at .109 and has done 2 updates in the 2 days I have had it.
I've ordered a BL code and will look at rooting once I have it, there seem to be 2 different guides in this forum at the moment. Still working out which way to go. One of the methods definitely involves rebooting into recovery every time in order to get root, not sure if the other method does as well.
I find the 182 firmware to be a great one, I have noticed more of a battery drain on this one but nothing to really worry about.
I find it awesome that the hwota method works and we are now able to flash the same or higher firmwares with pretty much ease now. To be honest everytime I fiddled with my phone before the hwota method came out I would stuff something up then use funky Huawei to bring it back to life lol that was beginning to be an expensive venture haha.
This device shows alot of promise, I am currently using magisk and have used modules to pass safety net. Also used titanium backup to remove some system apps I never use. I froze Huawei home and now use nova launcher and used the Google framework module to install the Google phone and contacts app which I find much better. I am happy to say I now have the device exactly where I want it to be. I have also added a 64gb Huawei nano memory card to my device, as it may be expensive I thought why not. Now all my photos get saved to memory card

Basically grab the recovery_ramdisk IMG and use that in magisk to get a patched_boot.img that would be the best way but in the guide it's got all the info you need there.

LYA-L09 from Optus here still on .122, with .146 due end of this month. Optus update schedule is a joke. As soon as FH .182 is safety net approved, I'm doing it. Don't really want to pay the $70 to unlock bootloader but will likely do that too eventually.
Yes Optus is a joke. Hopefully they start working on .171 which is supposed to have a unlock bootloader although I am sure optus will modify it to stay locked.

Optus are still stuffing everyone around with not yet releasing an almost 2 months old firmware. All they can do is give you a recorded message.
They certainly are the most pathetic telecommunications company.

It seems to have come to light that optus won't be supplying firmware updates, 2 reasons were mentioned today
1 is that huawei have not issued a software licence and will not provide optus with firmware.
2 is that optus have abandoned huawei firmware updates because of the huawei 5G and US ban with regards to spying.
All the times optus have mentioned testing firmware for the mate 20 Pro has been lies, it now is apparent that they were never testing anything.
This matter via being addressed by me in writing to both Huawei and optus, if they fail to respond or provide a firmware update solution. Consumer Affairs Victoria will be filing a complaint against them con VCAT Court.

Is your phone Optus branded specifically? Could you go and buy a Telstra prepaid SIM, chuck that in, and update the phone?

No, updates are handled by the firmware supplier(Optus) no matter what SIM you put in it
Optus is awesome

So what, they get so far and over a month just to give up on .146 ... I can't wait for another month of testing .183 just for them to give up on that

They are not testing .183 they are supposed to be working on .188 but at this point optus don't have a software licence from Huawei, and huawei are refusing to release the firmware until they get a licence approved.
This could be months or not even happen at all
They also have never been testing any firmware because huawei have never released any to them for testing as to date.
Here is the message I received from Optus last week.
Hey Darren,
This is what I recieved internally from our Tech devs,
For Australian carriers, Huawei will release MR every 2 months. They do not know the release details until about 1 month before the release. They have skipped .146 and .183 because they did not meet Optus requirements. We are going to get .188 for testing which is the later version than .183. The only way for the customer to get .183 is to buy an open market handset.
So we're all still on .122 ?
I want to say "un ****ing believable" but it's really not.
It's simply not good enough

How to update Huawei Mate 20 With Locked Bootloader

Hello guys,
I saw on the forum of the M20P that there's a tool used to update the device using a locked BL.
I wanted to know if anyone of you tried this, and if yes, can you tell us the result
I really don't know if this method could actually works on our device...
There's the thread link : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/how-to/manual-upgrading-mate-20-pro-bl-locked-t3905924
Thks guys for your help with the community :fingers-crossed:
I'll answer to myself,
I tested the method just above, and yes I managed to update my M20 to 9.0.0.237
I followed this tutorial video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp4k3uFDxf4 , and i used the tool listed on the thread I linked in OP.
There's a screenshot of my phone showing the version and the security patch I have now.
For the next updates, you have the choice guys, you can use Firmware Finder app on the playstore or use this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20/how-to/guide-manual-updating-firmware-t3892686.
BTW, thx to @OldDroid and @mikeos for their amazing job
I have HMA-L09 (single SIM) C432E10R1P16
Vodafone brand on the box, but software is unbranded, no vodafone crap stuff nor bootlogo, infact is C432
Just after turning on after hard reset I saw something branded, but 100% uninstallable
So, should I upgrade with this method, I'll definitely get rid of brand? and will I lose my data?
Of course I have locked BL, I used to have rooted phone since my first Android 2.1, so sad
