I think - Yes. Also maybe anyone can compile now x64 kernel for our x64 cpu device (at this moment we have only x32 kernel).

@Dreyk007
we still don't have a working vendor and tree. the only thing that matters for me right now is a working vendor considering from what i know it's the answer to getting voLTE to work on GSI rom's.

does this include the specific vendor? proprietary ones don't seem to be useful as far as i know. I plan to get on device development when my new PC is built (2 weeks-1 month) since i know the basics already.

[Q] Custom ROM for Xiaomi MI3

Hi everyone.
As we all know how popular the Xiaomi MI3 is, I was just wondering if there can be any possible Custom AOSP based rom for this device.
As we all know the Nexus 5 and Xiaomi MI3 have almost similar hardware would it be possible to port any nexus 5 roms to the MI3?
Agreed that Xiaomi doesn't release sources but is it possible to port something from nexus 5 due to similar hardware?
Simple answer is no. Without the kernel source code you can't get anything booting. Because they don't release the source code is the reason they have no forum and never will

Ohh I see. No point in having a forum if no source code is available.
By the way MIUI based custom roms can be developed right? Since they can use the stock kernel.

That they have but without any kernel source that is the best you will get. Is a port that may have bugs that can't be fixed (that the Og ROM doesn't have) due to no source. Also no kernel options like gov or over clocking ect.

Varun chitre has already made an alpha build of cm11 for this device without the kernel sources.
And yeah Xiaomi will be releasing kernel sources later this year

omnirom working on zenfone 5z

hello
I found zenfone 5z device tree. kernel. vendor on github
https://github.com/scanno/android_device_asus_ZS620KL
https://github.com/scanno/android_kernel_asus_sdm845
https://github.com/scanno/proprietary_vendor_asus/tree/android-8.1?files=1
he is working on omnirom for zenfone 5z and he is maintainer of omnirom
I think zenfone 5z will get support of official omnirom

That is VERY good news. With a device tree TWRP is a lot closer

Well I am working on it, but don't have the phone yet. Still need to convince the wife [emoji849]...
At the moment there is also no zenfone 5z on stock here, so it will take a while...
Ofc anyone who is adventurous enough to try and see if it boots can give me a shout [emoji16]
Had a hard time getting my 5z too. Had to order at amazon.fr and ship to Germany great phone so far...

Will Omnirom for 5z have at least some ASUS specific features like AI Charging, ZenMojis, Asus AI camera features and so on, or real stock Android without any Asus features

Don't even have the phone yet.... OmniROM is based on AOSP, so without any Asus specific features. There will be device specific implementations like gestures. Other features wl depend on if they can easily be enabled through sysfs or property settings.
But if those features are proprietary or need framework implementation then chances are that they will not be available.
But to be clear... I was planning of buying the 5z and before I do I wanted to see how far I would get without having the actual device...
Right now the everything builds into a flashable ZIP and should be tested. For sure it will not boot because of sepolicy and missing vendor files (and most likely more)

TWRP can be build when replacing bootable/recovery with the TWRP recovery. It's not Synced by default. But TWRP will not work yet as it is. Still needs the proprietary files to be added and since 5z is a a/b device, I did not figure out yet (no time) to see how to make a seperate recovery image.
Add:
<remove-project name="platform/bootable/recovery" />
<project path="bootable/recovery" name="android_bootable_recovery" remote="omnirom" revision="android-8.1" />
To your local_manifests

ramdisk-recovery is not a bootable image. It only contains the ramdisk and the TWRP files.
If you read what I wrote before I said that twrp will not work yet...

It would be nice to have a kernel config from a running kernel to compare with the config that was in the kernel sources from Asus. The config in the released sources does not build.

Device Tree?

Hi, I have a questions:
At least one developer is working on the device tree? Has someone already tried to port custom firmware? How long to wait for the first custom?
Developers, please mark in the comments(?)!

The developer, Randomblame , is working on it. You can use GSIs in the mean time, ones like phh AOSP, AOSiP, ArrowsOS do support fingerprint.

Kelsi is the only capable person we have right now unfortunately. She is working on kernel rn as you can see in the development section. As soon as her device tree will become close to stable i'll start doing build for 2-3 roms for Mi 9 as well (although I can't be much more than a buildbot).

[DEVELOPMENT] [TB-X606F/X606X/X606V] Device tree bringup for the TB-X606 family

Hey y'all, I've been recently working on a device tree for the X606F (codenamed "achilles6_row_wifi").
I do not have much experience on this topic, so I am essentially doing this blindly, basing it off other's work. I am currently only targeting the X606F, but X606X/V may also be supported.
I am looking for someone to collaborate with, I have an Android build machine ready to test changes. As I saw that Android 12 GSIs boot, I tried to build LineageOS 19.1, but ended up in the usual "black-screen bootloop", I don't know how to debug this so I am looking for someone to help

Hi,
Were you able to make any progress or was it abandoned?
Abandoned OP hasn't done any commits in ages

Question Why are there so few official custom roms on this highly sold model?

I don't understand
Have you looked at the Telegram group? A lot of development seems to bypass xda these days. That slightly worries me as the ROMs are all unofficial and I'm always worried what might get added - surprising we don't get ROM based malware more often. At least here reputation is long term so that seems less of a risk.

I wish I knew - staying on MIUI until there's something official, ideally crDroid, Lineage or similar long term projects.
To avoid any errors of judgement:
Official ROM maintainers are not supposed to make changes to the source. So, they are not likely to fix any bug which is related to the source. Meanwhile, unofficial ROM maintainers are not having any restrictions. They are free to make any changes to the source to suit their needs. So, the unofficial maintainers often fix source-related bugs before the official one.

That's how I understand it, and having that level of code review in the official builds is what almost guarantees you can trust a ROM with your banking etc. I haven't actually heard of any unofficial ROM being naughty, but there's nothing to stop it.

For having used with several devices, several official or unofficial roms over several years, I have never had a problem with banking apps (for those who support them, of course).
Note that when there are no more brand updates, the developers are obliged to modify the source to continue to develop the rom.
XDA is a trustworthy source, for others I don't know.
And following that explanation...why are there other low-priced xiaomi models and also old models that have many official roms here on xda? I am very concerned that we have many unofficial aosp roms on telegram and here on xda absolutely none. Why do the devs of this model never publish on xda and other xiaomi models do? That doesn't give me confidence and I still don't understand

Xiaomi 11T Pro codename vili Kernel is still stuck on Android 11 meanwhile we are expecting Android 13 soon.
Many devices are missing there and also lack of kernel update.
