EMUI 9 Gestures sucks? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

I was ao excited for Android 9 but right after updating to EMUI 9, I was disappointed to see how pathetic and useless is back button gestures, especially when you are on a keyboard screen. Is it just me or you guys think so too?
1) it is difficult to get used to this stupif "back" gesture.
2) it is slow.
3) No quick switching between 2 apps instantly?
Will they fix it in future updates or we are stuck with this forever?

I have to agree on this issue. Gestures on EMUI 9 are really bad. I've stayed with "button bellow screen" gestures.
1. It is really difficult to use "back" gesture especially when using any kind of phone case.
2. Using "back to homescreen" gesture firstly shows recent apps and then moves to homescreen ...
3. No quick switch between 2 apps - that's truly bad.
4. Missing gesture to move "left <-> right" in recent menu with a finger

2. No. I does take you directly to home screen, by swiping up without any pause. (If I understand your issue correctly)
4. Thanks for reminding me that.
5. Keyboard is at such low bottom, it becomes difficult to type (sometime).
I wish they could have copy pasted Apple's gesture. Easy life!

I like them very much actually...

FluidNG is your friend:

I'm not running under pie EMUI9 yet and I use
Nova launcher
Fluid ng
It work awesome. All I miss is switching between app like on ios or zuk z2 pro ui with finger print front. Sad EMUI 9 doesn't have a such function.

YES! But I am not talking about keys on top rather KEYS on the buttom. Like SPACE key and other buttons are so close to the bottom end. Apple has a better Implementation (by sliding down the emoji icons etc). Don't you think?
P.S: I'm on Gboard.

Hi! That is google assistant.

Hmmm the new gestures are a bit tricky aren't they but I quite like them so I'll persevere a bit, else there's plenty of other navigation methods to choose from.

People says the gestures don't work that well when using Nova Launcher.
Anyway, you should try Fluid Navigation Gestures, you can customize it as you wish!

In my opinion, if there is anything this front mounted fingerprint reader/home button is good for it's the "off-screen navigation key" - removes unnecessary icons from the screen making it cleaner and works like a charm. Using it since day 1 with this phone and prefer it over the new gestures.
I can't say the new gestures are really bad, I believe one can get used to them, although the swipe right/left for "back" is tricky if you are using a bulky case (Otterbox etc.)

I'm using Nova Launcher and the Pie gestures are broken. It always shows the recent apps first when exiting from an app. That should really be fixed...

How can you move the softkeys from center to the far left?

i'd like my soft keys to be on the far left. it's a pain in the ass to navigate having to stretch my thumb so far to the middle.
i'm talking about home / back / recent apps button. what was asus thinking? its a 10.1 tablet.
also, would be awesome if the notification pull down bar was in a corner as well. anyway this is possible?

I used your method for unlocking and I installed xposed, but doesn't seem like anything happens when I switch settings in phab7.
Anu suggestions?
Have you enabled phab7 as a module in Xposed?

Install a launcher like APEX or NOva and then you can move it where ever you want. It's locked on the stock launcher.
Hey thanks a lot. Appreciate what you do for the community.

[REQUEST] Reachability

Hey all I was wondering if there was an app where we can double tap the home button and it brings the top half of the screen down so that way we can reach buttons easier. The iPhone six has this feature and I think it would come in handy on all big phones like the iPhone six.
Sometimes when your trying to use the phone one handed you just can't reach the hamburger button on the Play Store.
Nothing major but I'm sure it'll be something that people would use.

Maybe for Xposed once it's released for ART
I know something better. Pie
Just need one to control the hamburger.
It's been working perfectly this whole week with the menu button.

I've tried Pie and I just don't like it. This is why Android should have never abandoned the Menu button.

Capacitive Buttons Delay

Hi,
Recently I noticed that the capacitive buttons response time is slower than the on-screen navigation bar.
When I press any of the buttons on the on-screen navigation bar the response is immediate. On the other hand, when using the capacitive buttons there is always a delay, wich is especially noticeable in the recents button.
This is a really irritating issue since I prefer the capacitive buttons, but now I always notice the delay.
Have you guys noticed this? Do you have a fix?
I'm currently on OxygenOS 3.5.4.
Thanks

You sir, are a genius! :good:
It's a shame tough... I really love the double tap to open the last used app. Maybe It will be better on 7.0 since that's a native feature there.

Even if it is native, if double tap is defined, the OS must wait for possible second tap after the first one, so delay for second tap.

Yup totally understand. But the delay here was very noticeable. I have the "double tap to open last app" feature on my Nexus 5, with the 7.1.1 PureNexus ROM, and there is no noticeable delay. The way Nougat implements this feature seems to be different from what OnePlus did on Marshmallow.

Native nougat "double tap" is not a typical one. It's a trick. It's basically a single tap which opens recent apps and moves previous app to the front of recent apps stack at the same time so when you hit the key again, recent apps window closes and app that's first in the stack gets to the foreground.

P20 Pro Virtual Navigation - Counter Intuitive...

Does anyone else find the Huawei P20 Pro's "virtual navigation" to be counter intuitive? The off-screen navigation controls make no logical sense.
Tapping the fingerprint sensor = back button
Holding the fingerprint sensor = home screen
Swiping from right to left across the fingerprint sensor = view open apps
Who designed this? Why is there no ability to customize it to a more logical function?
If it were my choice, this would be how it operates:
Tapping the fingerprint sensor = HOME
Holding the fingerprint sensor = RECENT APPS
Swiping from right to left across the fingerprint sensor = BACK
I feel like this makes much more sense for efficient usage? Does anyone else feel the same?
When I first used it I couldn't get the hang of it. Tried again and gave it a couple of days and once it clicks it's great.

Nice topic, can you use any fingerprint remappers kind of apps, and tell if that fixed the issue or not ?
I tried All In One Gesture but it looks clunky.
I will love to have Gesture across the screen rather than limited to the Button or the Navigation Dock....
I think the default gestures are very nice build. The ones I use more often is the ones that are easiest, and quickest to perform; "back" and "home". And the one I use most seldom is the hardest to do, and thats "recent apps". But I guess we all use our phone in a different manner, so customisation should be allowed.
I don't mind this arrangement but I do miss the ability to quickly double tap recents to open the last app you were using. I used that that a lot..

Exactly same issue for me
I use "Back Button" that creates some floating buttons for me on the right side. There you can double click to change to the reason app. Used them on my s8+ when hiding the on screen buttons.

Yup. Other than that I find the gestures just fine to use. Don't know why the op has the default assumption that their idea for a setup is more logical. Both are just arbitrary choices at the end of the day, and either setup would take some time to commit to muscle memory.

Question Swipe navigation in Funtouch os?

I wanted use navigation swipe gesture like oneplus and google pixel phone, but vivo provide only 2 gesture
1. Swipe up to home screen, and swipe up and hold to open recent apps
2. Swipe left side or right side of the phone to go back.
Can you elaborate what do you mean by navigation swipe gesture? Because the 2 options you mentioned use swipe gestures themselves.

I was using OP7P before this and I am not really sure what you mean by that. I had slide from the bottom to go home or open recent apps.
Slide from bottom left or right to go back.
Vivo has slide from the bottom and swipe from left or right to go back which are the Android 11 gestures.
