In display fingerprint scanner 6T vs Mate 20 Pro - OnePlus 6T Guides, News, & Discussion

I made this video
I prefer the mate 20 pro implementation.
What do you guys think?
I have listed few genuine concerns.

I am not saying its bad but a reliable face unlock would have been better with this 1st gen tech.
basically i like both but on comparison i like mate 20 Pro slightly better

Bias aside, the Mate 20 Pro's implementation is much better. Also seems and looks faster tbh

I agree as far as implementation may be better . but 6T was the first to have it! keeping that in mind as far as the speed that you mentioned it's the way he recorded the video if you watched it

Actually Hauwei had it first. Unless you are talking about oppo.

huawei mate rs porsche and vivo nex were first to use the in display scanner.
speed feels faster in 6t because no pressure is needed but mate 20 needs pressure to be applied

6T was the first to have it in the US only. Definitely not the first when you consider intl. market

when i isaid first in video i didnt mean literally the first to use.
I wanted to mean first gen tech.
Why be the frontrunners in implementing a first gen tech in a low cost VFM device and sacrificing useful functionality

you mean the FP scanner on 6T?
Even i didnt like the implementation either.
OnePlus has become greedy.
For US markets thats fine since 500$ smartphone is rare may be.
But with asian context the company is bringing nothing new.
Slow death for sure.

I checked further and both fingerprint and face unlock work simultaneously even when screen is off. once u start pressing on scanner!!
But atleast huawei doesn't cheat in that respect and informs on lockscreen that it was unlocked by face unlock!!

How much is the adaptor? And I wonder if we can disable the phone screen during video playback? This combined with undervolting would mean epic battery life when used as a video player.

It sounds geek awesome, then I asked myself what I would ever use it for that I wouldn't use my Xbox or ps3 instead. Nothing was the answer.
I would use it so i could turn my n4 into a Nintendo/super 'tendo console and relive the dream. Some people could use it to record them self and see it live. Steve Wozniak would make live smartphone porn.

Even Chris Pirillo fell for that 'lag' exercise/flicking the screen when showing the N4 versus iPhone...I'm like..HELLO! WHO the f uses their phone that way!?! No one. Period. It's a stupid exercise that proves nothing. Compare the units in NORMAL navigation, and you MIGHT detect smoother operation, but I detect it as SLOWER operation.

[Discussion] Open Source, image post-processing algorithm.

Keeping the sensor parameters aside, can we expect an open-source take on the post-processing for smartphone cameras? This code can be modified as needed and can be incorporated into custom roms. Thus eliminating the reliance on the OEMs for the updates.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
I'm no camera expert, but, doesn't post processing depend on a individual camera module? I think all custom rom developers can contribute together on a particular camera module for the phone (like, for oneplus 3, all custom rom developers for oneplus3 can contribute together on the camera module, which then, they can integrate into their individual roms, as you are suggesting!). But, I've noticed that custom rom developers are less interested in camera of the phones (argument being, if you need professional quality photographs, buy a DSLR, which doesn't make sense to me.) I hope it changes.
Yes you are right. Devs should understand that, we don't expect DSLR level photos but atleast we can expect the quality to be on par with the stock factory rom. That way, migrating to a custom rom wouldn't be that much of a pain.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
We have seen OP's over aggressive approach to noise reduction leading to very soft images resulting in a loss of details. If devs could tune down the noise reduction a bit, might give better results.

Hello,
I created a thread where I uploaded some pictures (4 sets). I took them side-by-side using both Official/Stock OxygenOS Camera as well as the Ported OxygenOS Camera. And the original photos were also uploaded.
I am interested in knowing how far (or near/identical) the quality really is (this is not a technical/scientific experiment, but more on just visual inspection of the photos). I am inviting people to participate and let me know what they think by voting in the thread.
Here is the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/poll-tell-difference-ported-oos-camera-t3574805
I will reveal the answers when the poll closes.

That makes no sense what's so ever. This is the difference between closed sourced and open sourced drivers and such. You can't expect the same quality from devs that do this for free without the use of documentation from the camera maker, to companies that can spend millions in developing camera software.
This is something you have to weigh. Understand the trade off. There is a price to pay for being on open source software and sometimes it is more then people are willing to pay. Which is OK.

I realized too late that XDA's polling system allows for only a single vote, and the only way to edit it would be to make a request to a Forum Moderator. Also the poll is about to end on the 17th. I'll assess if it will still be feasible to have it added.

How to get Netflix in HD and HDR in Mate 10/Pro

I managed to get Netflix HD (specially HD because with a 2k display and not being able to get hd content is stupid) and HDR in my Mate 10 (not pro) by changing the device model to the mate 10 RS porshe design NEO-L29, also works changing it to Mate 10 pro BLA-L09. This also may work for the Non supported Mate 10 Pro phones, Netflix only support officially the NEO-L29 and BLA-L09, thats it says in the website.
You need to have magisk root, with safetynet pass in green and modify this file:
/product/hw_oem/ALP-L29/prop/local.prop (mine is ALP-L29 but it might be ALP-AL00, ALP-L09... Or whatever brand you have, check in settings about phone.. So edit the file for your device model)
See the screenshots attachment for more details.
So basically change all the words ALP-L29 (or whatever is your model) in that file to NEO-L29.
Reboot and go to Netflix, which now appears in the playstore and can be installed.
Go to any of the Netflix originals like black mirror or stranger things and you should see the word HDR next to the title.
I don't know if the hdr really works on our device's screen in Netflix but defenitley Netflix now recognises my Mate 10 as a porshe design and as a supported device.
What I can assure is that HD now works because before doing this change, I downloaded an episode of black mirror and the size was 330 mb but after the change the size now is 770 mb(if I change to NEO) and 550 (if I change to BLA-L09) and obviously it looks sharper...
HDR seems to work too, The shows with hdr support seem to look better than the ones where it says HD only, the blacks seem darker and more saturation but I cannot be 100% sure... ?
Keep in mind that not all the Netflix content is in hdr only the shows original from Netflix and only some of them.
Hope it works for you and let me know if you see the HDR improvement, specially in the PRO device because of the AMOLED.

Yes man I know how you feel, thats why Ive been investigating untill i found how to fix this problem, But yeah you need Root for it, If I buy a phone super expensive is because i want the best feature, it very sad how these companies work.
I think the BLA-L09 is european and the BLA-L29 is like more international. So one would expect that the international version is what should be supported and not the euroean. Anyway, It´s not only huawei fault, its also netflix´s, why all these restricctons? Every phone with at least a 720p screen and google widevine drm support should be able to get HD support. All these exclusivities netflix is doing with some phones is very discriminatory.
Anyway, if you really consume a lot of netflix, i would recommend you to root and get HD support for your phone.

I don't wanna be that guy, but people need to stop saying 2k display... 2k is 2000. It makes absolutely no sense to say that.
2k resolution is a slightly larger fullhd cinematic movie recording format (just like 4k compared to Ultra HD)
2k is like 2048x1080 so if one of these phones has close to 2k screen it is the fullhd+ mate10pro.
Saying 2k is insulting your device.
No offence meant lol

Hahah don't worry, I say 2k because everyone one else knows it as that, few knows it as QHD. I normally like to call it just 1440p like 1080p, 720p as that's a more precise term...

The next Netflix update or the next update from Huawei? I have a BLA-AL00 but sadly as of today still no HD or HDR on Netflix yet
Thank you. It works for me (ALP-L29).
Anyone can make this as Magisk module? Thanks in advance.
Anyone figure out why the Mate 10 has been purposefully disabled or not supported for HDR playback? I want to know what dumb ****s are responsible for this.

Netflix could add any phone they want to support HD.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro (BLA-L09)
Netflix doesn't care for us... Still no HD support!
I just contacted with netflix support and their reply was to change my phone or watch on different device!
That's very sad.
Any other solution?
Thanks

But you're not using Android 8, anymore, are you? You were talking about Android 9 and so was I. Samsung removed the dual camera feature in Android 9, just like they have removed a great many other features, as well. These things are all well documented across the treads on this forum. It's nothing new.
FFS why didnt I read the CONS of the pie update...
I lost the dual camera, i lost the call recording options for what?
For Samsung UI?! Sure it looks better but.... its just UI
I loved this feature, the apk worked fine on 8. It's one feature I really miss. Does anyone know of an alternative that works well on the note 8 pie?

I'm no fan of the latest update, but for the record, third party call recording is blocked by Google not samsung..

People need to stop being Iphone users. Back in the day, I recall they tried to remove the SD card with the S6. We didn't buy the phone.
Sales did horribly and Samsung said sure, we will put it back.
Now, everyone is flocking buying the S21, sales doing pretty good.
On top no one goes and tells Samsung on Twitter anything.
Samsung wants to make IPHONES.
That's their goal. That's why they paid millions to BTS singers just to get the fanbase.
