Still trying to figure out if I want one. I know its only $35, but I have drawers full of $35 gadgets rotting away. I already have an Apple TV and a Roku 3 and a WD Live and a HTPC. All of which do everything this does and more. The streaming from the phone or tablet thing is goofy....your content is not on your phone (unless you are a 14 year old or something), its on a server somewhere (either netflix's or Amazon's or your own). Add in the lack of Ethernet (wireless sucks for streaming HD content...you are always at the mercy of your neighbors) and I think its a $35 drawer-space-taker-upper.
Someday I will be in Best Buy or something and my retard gene will kick in and I will buy one, play with it for a week, then into the drawer it goes, lol.
too bad its out of stock :<

In this article: http://www.inquisitr.com/868923/chromecast-tv-35-google-dongle-is-cheap-but-how-well-does-it-work/ it says this:
Essentially the Chromecast TV dongle will offer users the ability to stream Internet video and content onto their television screen. Simply plug the dongle into the HDMI port of a TV then connect it to the WiFi network at home. You can then watch movies or listen to music stored on your smartphone, tablet or PC, and watch or listen to it on the big screen.

Sorry if it wasn't what you were looking for, but how did you expect it to connect without Wi-fi? The nice thing is that your phone is free to be used as normal while streaming.

I picked one up at Best Buy yesterday and tried what you are asking. It will not work that way. You can setup and adhock network on your phone, connect the Chromecast and a 3rd device to stream to the Chromecast. I couldn't stream from the device providing the network.

Exactly. I used my S4 to setup the network, connected chromecast and my wife's Note 2 and streamed to the chromecast via her Note 2.
I really haven't played with it too much; just watched a couple of youtube videos but that did work.

From what I gather... no unfortunately. Google Music should work, YouTube definitely works but those are the only two things I was able to stream.
I tried to stream a TV Portal (android app) show to it and there was no "Chromecast" option on mx player or my S4's stock player. I've only spent about an hour messing around with it though.
I actually looked into it this morning in hopes there was something I was missing, I wanted to stream my own content to it and came across this G+ post. It doesn't look like you can stream whatever you want to it.
Also, if you look on the chromecast developer site it states
"You may not publicly distribute or ship your Google Cast application without written permission from Google, per the terms of service described below."
and
"YOU MAY NOT PUBLICLY DISTRIBUTE CODE CONTAINING THIS SDK OR REFERENCING THESE APIs WITHOUT A WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH GOOGLE ALLOWING YOU TO DO SO."
I hope google doesn't lock this down so only certain services can be used.
EDIT:
I was wrong. You can play local files through the Chrome Browser
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/25/tip-you-can-play-local-video-files-through-chromecast/
Any idea if it has DLNA support?? Say to support something like Plex??

Use regular Android TV dongle as Chromecast

Hello, I have an Android TV dongle similar to this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A8FWITI
and, as the Chromecast uses Android, I was wondering if it would be possible to put the ROM found in the Chromecast into other devices such as these TV dongles so you could use them in the same way as the Chromecast.
Would it be possible or does the TV dongle lack any kind of hardware feature that the Chromecast has? If it was possible I would like to help develop this, but I need someone to point me to the right direction.
I hope you understood my idea
Why would you want to do that? Is there anything that Chromecast can do that you can't make with your device?
The purpose of Chromecast is to play content that is sent via a computer, phone or tablet.
With your Android tv device you don't need any other device to send you any content. You can play it from the device itself.

Well, I use my android TV dongle mainly for music and I think it would be much more comfortable to just send and control the music from my phone rather than having to use a mouse or a keyboard, which is what I have now.
Maybe a DLNA app?
You might, in the future be able to adapt the apps from the Chromecast to your device, but chances are the code is hardware dependent, so you'd need to be able to analyse the code and determine that for yourself. A full-on ROM would certainly be hardware dependent.
per the chromecast API, anything can be a receiver and anything can be a controller. the chromecast receiver is not the only receiver possible. its possible for a dev to create an app that can identify itself as "castable." (this is what i heard on launchday from dudes going over the chromecast API, I cannot cite the source directly)
I would venture to say that truecrisis is correct. They announced that Google TV devices will become Chromecast receiver devices in the next update. I saw that a Google TV software engineer indicated it will be part of the OS and not a seperate app. Once the Google TVs get updated to JB with Chromecast, it would make a good blueprint to adding Chromecast to the Android Sticks.

I have an old Iconia A500 that I mounted in my kitchen as a media center, but being that my girlfriend and myself have different music accounts and so forth, it's already usually more convenient to just play back content locally from the phones. Having the ability to register the tablet as a chromecast receiver would greatly increase the usability of the device in this use-case. It's not about what chromecast can do, it's about how it does it.

DLNA local file video player/server app for HTC 8X?

I'm looking for a video player/server app for WP8 that will allow me to play locally stored files (MP4) from my phone (an HTC 8X) onto a DLNA-capable television. So far I've not found anything that seems to be able to do this, although I thought it would be quite simple (my Nexus 7 has at least half a dozen players that can do it).
Closest I've found was Nokia Play To (set up after spoofing the store into thinking my 8X was a Nokia 925). That app runs OK, but fails to find any DLNA devices, even when connected directly to their hotspot. Also found MyMediaHub, which works fine as a DLNA controller (playing to the renderer from an external DLNA server) but can't play local files. Moliplayer can act as a local renderer (to play files from an external server on the phone via DLNA), but what I want is kinda the other way around, to play from the phone rather than to it.
Are there any players out there which can fulfil this role which will work with the 8X, or am I limited to filling my tablet up with films rather than using my phone for the job (which I'd prefer as they are on there anyway for watching whilst travelling).
The WP8.1 update is supposed to have this ability baked into the OS. Just hold out a few more days, ok a week..

It's a corporate phone, so I may have to wait slightly longer than that, knowing our IT crowd. But it's good news anyway, thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep a check on what does get released with the update, with fingers crossed
There's also Share Box from Samsung (DLNA client that can stream images/videos/music over WiFi). May require proxy trick. Not tried on a non-Samsung phone.

This one also doesn't work on HTC (I've already tried, app failed with "Media service not started" message). Looks like you're out of luck (say "thanks" to HTC for the "great support" and never buy HTC's junkphones again )
P.S. Theoretically, there is no "rocket science" in DLNA server functionality; the only showstopper I see now is the API limitations to access local videos. Hope, with WP8.1 update, some third-party DLNA servers will hit the store...

Not for Windows Phone 8, that is only for WP7.X: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/connected-media/d154a04b-d3ad-47dd-bfc9-a1022e409af6

As I mentioned in my first post - I tried that via a store-spoof to make it think my 8X was a Nokia 925 and serve me Nokia apps for install. The app installs and runs, but it can't find the DLNA renderer, even when connected directly to it. The webpage that details the spoof (using Fiddler2 on a PC as a proxy man-in-the-middle for the set-up process) also reported the same, that Play To installs and runs but can't detect DLNA devices.
As noted, I can find options for DLNA controllers (e.g. MyMediaHub) and DLNA players (e.g. Moliplayer), but what I'm not finding for WP8.0 is a DLNA server app that can see locally stored files. With luck 8.1 could fix this by baking it into the OS, so I will wait patiently until it filters down through our IT boys and their testing.

[Q] World Cup streaming using Chromecast ?

Is there any service that allows me to stream the World Cup matches directly on the Chromecast ?
Thanks!
if you live in the UK then you are lucky, open the BBC/ITv websites or apps (depending on the game i guess), start the FREE live stream and cast it away.
if you live in the US (and have iOS/android device) download the ESPN app and cast the games for FREE to your CC.
if you live anywhere else where you country has a good company that will be broadcasting the cup online, you can cast the tab and pray you get a good quality.
lastly if live anywhere else, unless you have a custom FW for your CC and a bit on the geeky/nerdy side, there is no way... (my case but without the Custom FW T__T)
hope that helps
And of course, VPNs should work right?

You can try this link http://deportesenvivo.univision.com...omepageMainMenu:Deportes:Futbol:LiveStreaming
Link to the video appears after games starts and then you can cast your chrome tab to chromecast.
The only problem is - I don't understand spanish.

How to mirror my android phone screen to my tablet or TV box?

Hi there
like the title of this thread,
i want an application wich allow me to Mirror my android phone screen to another android tablet or tv box
i search on the Play store but i don't find what i need.
so can anyone help me !!!
regards
Samsung devices can do this via SideSync. I went out of my way to get a phone and tablet so I could use the mirror/remote call/file transfer functionality. Recently LG copied this, so if you have an LG phone and tablet you may also be in luck.
You should probably check the list of devices that support the Chromecast, or consider MHL for output of your phone to a television via an adapter cable.
Sent from my Galaxy S5
After long search i think that it's not possible to mirror All the screen of the phone to another android device beacause
it's should be a protocol like ,DLNA or Miracast ... wich is possible with a dongle wifi display.
but i found two applications wich allow us to share content between devices:
1_ the first aplication is Screenshare:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.springdesign.screenshare.browser.server
2_The seconde application is EZcast screeen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.actionsmicro.ezcastrx
you can watch the video to know how it works
If both devices are rooted you can get full Chromecast functionality (well, mostly. a few things like Netflix don't and likely will never work) using the Cast receiver port that's on this board along with the Xposed module to disable the signature date check on the device that's sending the Cast, works for me.
Thank you but i don't understand very well
can you please explain what shoul i do step by step?
Regards
I can recommend to use my app Screen Stream Mirroring  , here is the free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobzapp.screenstream.trial
I recommend it not only because I am the developer, but because the app was initially made for this.
You can use VLC for Android as receiver or any other RTSP player.
I will also release very soon a player for Android with good additional features.
Just ask if you have any question.
How it works?? there is no instructions!
please explain step by step what i should do?
Download allcast receiver to your tablet and allcast to your phone.
vnc method (root)
Try droid vnc server from the play store(this requires root access) on the device you want to mirror and get a vnc viewer on the device that you want to connect to the vnc server and this will mirror your screen
hi i owned galaxy note 3 phone and recently just bought galaxy tablet note 10.1.

The server app will host a server so every devices on the same Lan can pair up with, but you need to root your server device or the display will be blank, the client device which is the controlling side do not require rooting. You can also download a limitless.zip from the original website to install it in any window os, you can even remote control your pc when you host a server there

If you have a quite recent Android version it should use hardware encoding so you should be able to stream any game... up to 60fps since Android 4.4.
You can check in app preferences if hardware encoding is enabled.

I was going to try your app, but the reviews on Playstore are dismal. Possibly the most negative reviews I've ever seen for an app. So I won't bother, because as in most apps, there are dozens more.
You really should consider trashing the app, fixing it (apparently you have an insane number of ads in the free version) and re-releasing it under a different title. Word of mouth, or in this case, thumbs is everything in the dev world.
