unable to lock phone at all - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Received the update 9, no issues noted after, then thought I would change my theme, and since then, nicluding after a reset of all settings, I can enrol my face, add fingerprint, set pattern and pin code, but when I push the power button to lock the phone, a simple swipe up unlocks it. I have done this while holding the phone away so the camera cant see my face (just in case its just speedy)
One thing that has me a little confused in 9 is the option where you select the lock option, I go to security & Privacy, lock screen password, and change lock screen password, then input my pattern and select change unlock method, and I have only 4 options, 4 pin, custom pin, pattern and password, no finger print or face recognition listed, and so I select pattern , input it twice, click done, then am prompted to associate fingerprint, which I say yes to.
Now, I lock the phone, press power to unlock, and have the option of the swipe up to unlock (no security period) the fingerprint does nothing other than unlock the phone without the need to press the button or swipe, but is easily bypassed by just ignoring it.
I cannot walk around with a phone that simply has zero security on so can anyone advise on things to try.
I have backed up the entire phone and would rather avoid a full reset if possible

Try changing theme download a 3d free one, when I did that it downloaded some engine, then my lock screen worked.
Seems the update doesn't change the theme, but prompts you to switch, if you don't it doesn't work.

thanks, but still nothing. I can find no way to make this damn thing lock

Go to Security & Privacy -> Lock screen password -> Smart Lock.
Check if you have any options enabled, it can be unlocked by location, bluetooth or even by motion.

[Q] Fingerprint Unlock Issues

Hey all,
I may be completely missing something but I can't seem to get the fingerprint unlock on my AT&T S6 to work consistently. I've gone through the process and set up my fingerprint, but when i click the power button and back on, it asks me to swipe rather than use the fingerprint. At the bottom on the lockscreen I get a "swipe to unlock" message and when i touch/swipe the little water globule appears. I have to swipe to the right to unlock. What's extra interesting is when I reboot my phone, for first unlock (and only first) it asks for fingerprint unlock and unlocks appropriately by me placing my thumb on the sensor. Here's some additional information that may help:
1. Under lock screen and security settings, "Screen lock type" is set to "Fingerprints"
2. Under "Fingerprints" i have Fingerprint 1 which is my thumb
3. Web sign-in and Verify Samsung are currently Off
4. The problem is the same whether i use the power button on the right side of the phone, or press and hold home button, or single press home button then try to use thumbprint
Am i completely stupid and missing something? Seems totally weird to me that on first reboot and first unlock attempt it requires fingerprint, but any subsequent unlock is swipe only?
Thanks in advance for the help!

It hasn't completely locked. There is a option for it in security and go to secure lock settings and then secured lock time

Getting back to AOSP (stock Android) lockscreen?

Hey all you brilliant people here.
I like many others I imagine am getting fed up with EMUI tarnishing what is otherwise a great phone, the P9. The lockscreen especially is pissing me off to no end, it's next to useless. Magazine unlock my ass...
I was wondering if you could back to the more usable AOSP lockscreen? I've Googled around, tried renaming keyguard.apk to .bak etc., but nothing really does it for me. Phone is rooted of course, and I have Xposed up and running. I am also unable to select "none" as security for the lockscreen as it is (and no, clearing credentials doesn't work), making things even more complicated.
I could use a 3rd party lockscreen, but they've always been completely hit & miss for me. Cheers everyone!
Selecting the "none" option in screen lock is easy.
- Select the "pattern" option, create a pattern and a backup code.
- Lock your phone and enter the wrong pattern 3 times.
- Wait a minute (until your next shot) and unlock with the "backup PIN" or Google Account
- You'll get to a screen where you can select what new option you want to use to unlock.
- DON'T CHOOSE AN OPTION, just press the "back" button and the unlock is set to "none"
Done!

can't disable the swipe lock screen??

I have had my S8 Plus set with no lock screen & I like it that way. Goofing around with the settings, I accidentally re-enabled the swipe to unlock & now it won't let me set it back to none instead of swipe.
WTF am I missing here??

Works fine for me.
Settings --> Lock screen and security --> Phone Security -->Screen Lock Type --> None.
VZW S8+.
Never mind, whatever was wrong fixed itself & now it's working fine again.

Can't Disable Password Lock Screen on S8+
I cannot disable the screen lock!
I believe it is a result of that fact that I just enabled the Find My Device feature via google.com/android/device manager. I set up a password there. Then my phone locked, and I had to enter the pw to unlock it. Now, I always have to enter that pw to unlock the phone. I tried to turn off the password lock in the phone settings. Under Screen Lock Type, it says password. I am required to type in the pw, to turn it off. It temporarily changed to "Swipe", No Security. But then as soon as a navigate away from this screen on my phone, it goes back to "Screen Lock Type" - Password. I can't disable the screen lock! It's driving me nuts. So, I turned off the Find My Device feature. I also went into Phone Administrators and removed the radio button next to Find My Device. That didn't do it. I restarted the phone. I disabled google smartlock (I don't know if that is relevant). That didnt' work either. I read something about selecting Clear Credentials, but that option is grayed-out on my phone.
Please Help!!!

Disable Swipe to unlock and keep Password.

Hi all,
This issue has been bugging me for a while now. I am not new to android OS. But recently the company I work for has introduced a secure mobile policy that means if i have to access corporate email and calendar I have to encrypt the device and setup password for boot, and use 8 digit password instead of pin or face or iris or fingerprint recognition. The 8 digit password is a must.
The most annoying part is that after I enter the password, the device does not take me to the home page, but instead it takes me to the page where I have to swipe to go to homepage.
This is annyoing as hell. I have tried various things but it it didnt work.. like going into..
Lock Screen and Security > Screen Lock Type > None
And then choose Password. After this I get the Notifications (says, Select display option for notification on the click lock screen) page which i have turned off .
Inspite of that if i unlock the phone with the password the additional step of going to the screen where i have to swipe to log in automatically shows up.
Please guide.
Switch off smart lock.

You should consider doing a factory reset and see if the option appears in the settings.

Thnx for replay. i did FRs a few times before and once now, from Phone menu and boot menu as well
Just tested phone using Phone Doctor Plus app. and FP test failed.
I'm staring to think that FP sesnor is broken.
Do you have any ideas how to confirm that before sending back ?
Fingerprint is only a SECONDARY option. You must set one of the other options BEFORE you can enable fingerprints.

Thnx for suggestion. FP doesn't appear either with SINGLE Screen Lock or DOUBLE LS methods.
In other words FP option is not avalible as primary, secondary or 3rd security function.
EDIT:
Tested for each of primary Screen lock (None, Swipe, pattern, PIN, password) setuped on fresh system (after FactoryReset)
FR -> Screen lock (None); FR -> Screen lock (pattern), etc.

Been a little bit but if I recall after FR it will ask you to put in your pin and then confirm. Next screen should be "set up FP (yes/no) If you select yes then you are presented with a screen or two of instructions before you hit ok let's do this. If you don't get that at some point in the setup then return the device, it's broken.
