The Complete Guide to Flashing Android 7.1.1 (CM14.1 Unofficial) on a LG G2 (VS980) - Verizon LG G2

(Note: I didn't make any of this software. I just found it all and brought it together. I apologize for not being able to add direct links to each post I got this all from, I didn't record the sites I got them from.)
This is for the people who were unlucky enough to own a VS980 LG G2, rather than the other models which are loved by developers, a phone that is incredibly finicky and niche...
I honestly wish somebody made a guide like this for us VS980 users (a phone which most ROMs don't work on, has a locked bootloader, etc...) before I had to experience this pain.
(Okay, rant over.)
However, I have done it anyway and installed 7.1.1 Nougat on the VS980
(If you don't know the pain I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky...)
I've also gathered all the necessary files to one place so you won't have to hunt like I did. Following this guide to a T should result in a "effortless" to a "dang, I had to do something" modding experience
"Basic" Steps:
Install ALL tools Necessary (Drivers, Programs, Etc...)
Downgrade to Kitkat
Root
Install TWRP and Kernel
Erase Phone
Install Bootstack
Install ROM (CM14.1)
Install Gapps
Reboot and Enjoy (Might take a while first boot.)
Additional Notes (So you guys don't do what I do)
The files are all downloadable here:
Mega: https://mega.nz/folder/nOQiSZhA#geOCtLtVnEqVABogOXhmvA
(The files are 3.3GB so it will take a while.)
Use MegaDownloader to bypass Mega's download restrictions:
https://megadownloader.en.softonic.com/
The folders are marked accordingly to the "Basic" steps listed above.
Follow each of them in order and Open the "READ ME" text file in each for instructions.
Good luck!
(Sorry for the Bland-looking Post and Files, I don't really have a knack for making colorful Guides.)
EXTRA:
If you'd like to try getting 8.1, Here's a link to a ROM (I tested) that works:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v5-6-t3802329
Just make sure you flash the bootstack. Files are found in Folder: "9.Things to Try"
Basically follow the same steps (Downgrading, TWRP, etc...)
-Use Magisk to Root (Better than Super SU because, installed properly, it will hide your root so you don't
have to use Root Cloak.) <=(Pokémon GO)
NOTICE: WHEN REBOOTING AFTER FLASHING, DO NOT PRESS INSTALL SUPER SU
Just press do not install. You can root later....
[ Installing Super SU can possibly brick your phone and you'll have to start over ]
(It's just that every time I press that button, it never works... but I'm not sure )
If you brick your phone (Black screen of death), you can use a USB jig to get it to download mode and use the .kdz flasher (Lg Flash Tool) to restart from the beginning with the stock software.
USB jigs are really cheap (like <2$. I just made one myself ) and are incredibly useful to get out of tight situations. If you plan on modding a lot in the future, you should consider getting one.
(If you don't know what I am talking about, try to keep it that way.)

I thought I should add this (You're welcome BTW)

Is anyone still out there?
All of the Mega linked folders are empty, am I doing something wrong?
As a side note, my objective is to upgrade the ROM to at least Marshmallow so I can install Android Auto and Screen2 Auto. There is one app I want to use but it isn't allowed by Android Auto. I'm then hoping to make the phone a dedicated Android Auto "server" and leave it connected to my car's USB port. Any guidance on the best way to do this would be appreciated.
My VS980 is currently on the stock Android 5.0.2 ROM.
Update: I managed to get CM14.1 installed following the "Basic" steps. It took some trial and error but I got there.
If anyone finds this thread and knows of a better ROM for my use I'd be interested in hearing about it.

What happened? I do have LG G2 VS980 and works fine to me. I'm actually in Android 11 now. Links are down? How come?

I think the files expired in Mega (or I'm doing something wrong to access them).
My phone seems to be working OK but I don't use it for making phone calls.
My main problem now is I can't figure out how to access fastboot. I get a "waiting for any device" response when I issue any fastboot command. I can get to the download screen where it is waiting for a firmware update but I can't get past that.

Re uploaded the MEGA link. Don't know why there weren't any files there anymore. It is probably because I didn't check it for a while.

[Q] New to tablets and ROM

Hello ya'll, I'm new to the forum, I joined because of the wealth of information here.
So I'm not new to Android, had one ever since I was 16. I rooted both my droid phones(droid X with that awesome slider keyboard, and RAZR MAXX) to remove those pesky bloatware apps, but didn't ROM them, as it just wasn't something I wasn't aware of when I did it. So rooting was as far as I got.
But rooting and ROM-ing a tablet seems like it could be a daunting job, I'm new to the tablet world But I already have most of the tools, from previous roots, minus a few that are platform specific that I'm currently downloading to support the new CROMBi-X
I figure I'll go about getting everything I need, so when I get my tablet back from the shop, I'll be able to dive right into the CROMBi ROM.
//
I don't want to brick my tablet so hence the questions I am unclear on.
//
Question 1: Asus doesn't have the standalone unlock tool on their website. How do I go about getting that tool to unlock the tablet? Was it done OTA or downloaded and installed onto the tablet?
I have searched a few places, and browsed the developer forums, but haven't come up with a surefire way yet. I've seen everything from asking ASUS to unlock the tablet, to flashing CWM recovery, and than flashing a rooted version of the stock ROM, 've read several of the forums, but I need a little bit of "English" on the topic, as this is something new to me. I did come across a root.zip link but I'm not entirely sure that is what I am looking for, or if it is version/BLoader specific. If it is, then that pretty much covers that question.
Question 2: Are all the drivers on the ROM? Or do I need to use something like [ADB/FB/APX Driver] Universal Naked Driver 0.7?
Question 3: Mods. Are they downloaded OTA from the play store, or is there a list of compatible mods for the ROM? I realize that most of them are probably cosmetic right? I'm probably asking in the wrong forum, but since this is LINUX based, once rooted, if I put Ubuntu on the tablet, and then run a ROM on top of it? or Do I have to choose between one or the other?
I'm only asking because I run a few programs that aren't able to run on the android platform that I use for recreational purposes.
Anyway, that about covers a few of the base questions I have for now. Time to get ready for work. Thanks for any help in advance!
For 1:
It's on ASUS website
www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax
Version V1.0
Unlock Device App: Unlock boot loader of TF701T.(Only works with 4.2 JB and later OS)
For 2:
It's been a while since I rooted however I think you only need fastboot to be able to put the custom recovery on the tablet. If you have ADB/FB drivers already installed your pc should see your tablet without an issue. I don't know what APX is.
For 3:
Not sure what you mean by Mods. And last I checked I don't think that you can and Linux to this tablet yet however even if you could you only get one or the other.
Oh and make sure you read through all of the instructions for rooting and roming

sleepy2 gave you the link. You find the Unlock Tool under "Utilites" on the TF701 downloads page

First you need to determine what firmware you are running now and decide which JB version you want to run.
Check under Settings > About Tablet > Software version. On stock your firmware version and bootloader version are identical.
If you are on JB 4.3 you have either 10.26.1.7 or 10.26.1.18 (if you have the former, update to .18)
If you are on JB 4.4.2 you have 11.4.1.17
On JB 4.3
a) You can root the tablet without unlocking the bootloader with Towelroot v1.
b) You can unlock, flash CWM and then flash sbdag's stock rooted rom, one of several custom roms or just the root.zip
On JB 4.4.2
Right now there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery first.
Once unlocked and with CWM installed, you can flash sbdag's rooted stock rom or flash the root.zip.
CROMi-X 7.0 for 4.4.2 is in the works. I do not know if the other custom roms (CM, CROMi-X 6, CROMbi-KK) are compatible with the 11.4.1.17 bootloader yet, but that's just a matter of time.
To install CWM follow the insructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2604462

Try it. I did not have to install new adb/fastboot drivers and the device drivers installed on my PC automativcally. YMMV
Open Device Manager, then connect the tablet. Let the drivers install and see if it shows up in Device Manager.
Then boot the tablet into fastboot, connect it to PC and see if it shows up as a fastboot device.
Enable USB debugging in Developer Options, then connect the tablet booted into Android and see if it shows up as ADB interface in Device Manager.
If you need drivers you can use the ones you mentioned.
Question 3: Mods. Are they downloaded OTA from the play store, or is there a list of compatible mods for the ROM? I realize that most of them are probably cosmetic right?

You'll find mods in the rom thread or at least the links for those that work with that rom.. No OTA updates

There's a thread in the TF700 dev section on dual booting Android and Ubuntu. Not aware that anybody has tried it on the TF701.
Thanks for the link Sleepy! I had searched the website a couple times before, but I must have missed that part of it. Every other time I went somewhere to find it, it came back page unavailable. I'm really disliking this Kuwaiti right now! Well I won't know until I get the tablet back what JB is on it, but I imagine it would be sent back to a factory setting because of the issues I was having, or just get a whole new tablet all together depending on what was causing it not to charge.
I appreciate the clarification on everything guys, without the tablet in my hands I'm pretty much downloading everything I can that might help me out. I already have CWM, and several versions of it to be on the safe side.
I have been doing nothing but non-stop research, but it's daunting to try and go through 115 pages of information and tools, and version changes and what's compatible and how to use them. Watching videos has simplified it a little bit.
The reason I asked about Ubuntu, was I saw it dual booted to an older CROMi 2.X on the 700T
I used to run XP pro/Ubuntu on my laptop. Which was really nice when I needed a lightweight OS to free up processing power. Well before I had to format due to a near catastrophic drive failure and unrepairable data corruption. Anyway, that is a project for another time, one thing at a time!
I'll be around, busy with work 6 days a week!
Thanks again!

List of repairs done
So what I thought was a simple battery not charging issue turned out to be a host of things. I had to have the LCD, Touchpadboard, Docking cable and LCD cable replaced, luckily I was under warranty. I imagine that would have been expensive!

[Q] HTC One 831C - Location India

Dear All,
Two days before , I brought the HTC One (32 GB Golden) which on digging the Phone identity came to know the Model no 831C, later after goggling it came to know that I belongs to Sprint Carrier.
On inserting the code of Hardware components, I found few test/s were not passed and worked normally, other issues are TV app is not recognizing the server, Double Tap Screen wake/sleep works depending on its mood, vDM Client error pops up often.
Request all the experts here to please help me out with the Solution as to how can I make it work flawlessly.

1) Which tests didn't pass ?
2) Which ROM are you using ?
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
First of all, thank you for addressing my query & sorry for delay in revert.
Sir, I do know it’s the Sprint phone, as far your concern on below questions, let me try to answer them as below:
1) Which tests didn't pass?
When I run the all functions test by this code (*#*#3424#*#*) in one of the test the error word in green / red appears on screen
2) Which ROM are you using?
I believe it’s the Custom ROM, which would have be provided by Sprint. Software no is 1.54.651.8
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
No comments, will try to search the PSR on play store.
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Will strictly follow next time when I do it.
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
Its on Android KK 4.4.2
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
I didn’t find the option to disable vDM app nor did I found other apps of sprint. May I request you to suggest any alternates for it ?
Now, sir my other query is Is it advisable to flash a latest LP rom (i.e Goggle play edition or the rom developed by Bad boys team here) , also it seems that I am S-ON, because when I enter the bootload screen Power + Vol Down key where three android icon at bottom appears , I read LOCKED at the very top of the screen.
Pl. suggest whether it shall be advisable to do it if so request you to suggest the best ROM which shall run flawless in India.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards
Karan
Can somebody help me out with this please.. ??
The snapshots of my device are attached hereby, my only query is, and considering the attached images of device can I flash a Custom ROM on to it? Will that be advisable to do so? Are there the chances to Brick the device.
If the answer according to all the Experts here lies in assertive, which ROM is best, since this is a Sprint Device, I have found on the forum that Badboyz rom shall go flawless with any Sprint device, so may I go ahead with it. I am in India presently so wish that all the apps i.e Remote TV, Radio should run properly.

You need to delete the second and third pictures, there is way to much personal information in there.
The "Locked" at the top of the screen in the bootloader means that the bootloader is locked. If you look directly underneath it you'll see that it says "S-Off". To flash custom recoveries or roms or anything, you need the bootloader unlocked. You can do this using HTCDev, or since you're soff, you can unlock it via adb.
Once you're bootloader is unlocked, you should be set for everything. Flash a custom recovery like Captain Throwback's custom TWRP, get root if you don't have it already, update your firmware, etc. The bad boys xda page has most of this stuff in it.
Note: Your phone is supercid, so you're not limited to just sprint roms.
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 AM ----------
Also, just wondering what exactly were the tests that failed when you did *#*#3424#*#* ?
Thanks a lot sir, I am grateful to you, I have followed you instruction of deleting the images.
Now, last night I did the Factory Hard reset (P+V-DN keys), it went fine, except the data was erased which I never wanted to be backed up though I was haunting of loosing the Sim Lock, but all went fine.
I have my registration on HTCDEV too, and the process of obtaining the TOKENID should go without any hassles.
Now in pursuant to your advise below, will it still be mandatory to unlock the bootloader ? or I may follow the process of wipe/data and then immediately flash the BB's Rom ?
Further, I stand corrected that all the function tests are passed normally, it was my mistake of not placing the Handset on the plain surface while performing one of the test.
Finally, why the model no in phone identity says 831C, and not M8 - May I request your views on this please?
Thanking you once again for addressing, all you guys are rocking, I am here on this forum since 2008, and needless to say "A Proud Member"
All my Best wishes to MEMBERS.

Yes, you still need to unlock the bootloader. After that you need to flash a custom recovery.
After doing these two you will be able to flash a custom rom, just make sure you follow all the instructions on the BB rom page

Hi ssantos132,
I found there is a SuperSU app preinstalled on my Handset, which prompts me to Grant access when I try to install some other apps from PS- goggle, is my device rooted, because I have found in this link (http://blog.laptopmag.com/root-htc-one-m8), wherein lastly the SuperSU app gets installed automatically.
Pl. guide.
Thanks
Yeah, it looks like you already have root. Try downloading a root checker app from the play store if you want to make sure.

Well thanks for replying. I did that earlier, it says Congratulation your device is rooted. So now when we have concluded that my device is Rooted, the only thing left to be done is, flashing a Custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM right ? Incase if its already been rooted and say if I re-do it, any risk for Device?
Pl. guide.

Yeah, once the bootloader is unlocked you can flash a custom recovery then a rom. You can't flash a custom recovery through TWRP or CWM though. Download a custom recovery then use fastboot flash recovery recovery recovery.img
Believe me, That is one rare cellphone you have got.
I am having the same and as I tried few roms, without backing up the radio and replaced it with some random one. Now my phone is just a toy to play with.
I ll suggest you to stick with the rom you are having right now, Take a nandroid backup of the rom, radio and everything else. and keep it safe for future. You will never be able to find them online for this particular phone.
If you would like to help me solve my phone's issue, Please upload the radio. My phone is just laying around in my desk as I have no way to get it to work.

I know about these devices that are being sold in India. I bought a used phone on OLX having same model number with the exact similar problems. I assume these devices are development only devices which don't run a final version of software. I have noticed that most of the issues in the phone are software related. Using my development expertise, I was able to fix most of the problems and upgrade the firmware to Lollipop, however I have messed up the radio and was unable to restore the radio firmware to anything that actually works (This phones come with a radio version that can't be obtained from any online source). If you can provide the radio image from your device, I will prepare a flashable zip to upgrade the firmware to Lollipop which would include the modem you provide, along with instructions on how to unlock the device and flash it to get going. Probably this would iron out the issues that you are facing with your device.
To grab the radio image from your device, use the following command from "adb shell" or Terminal Emulator
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20 of=/sdcard/radio.img
You will find a file in the sdcard (Internal) named radio.img. Please upload it and provide me with a link.
I would advice you not to make any changes to the device until I provide you with clear instructions on how to do so. Trust me, I really had a hard time with this phone.
Well thanks indeed for the time you took for replying, Sir are you from India Since the name sounds such ?
Secondly, I am desperately looking to upgrade the Software to Latest 5.02 Lollipop from present Kitkat, my basic requirement is that any ROM to which I flash should at least contain the Stock FM Radio, wherein it should be able to tune in the Indian Radio Station.
Confusing issues which keep me scratching my head is that I have pre installed SuperSU app in it. Also I re checked it via installing the app Root Checker which indicated that my device is Rooted. However as and when I tried my device to restart it in Recovery mode it starts normally after a while , the SuperSU app is not getting started.
Can you help me through please. Favor me with (1) Do I need to unlock the Bootloader ? (2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ? (3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio (4) A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Thank You once again.

(1) Do I need to unlock the Bootloader ?
YEs, you must unlock it. It won't affect the phone's basic functunalities
(2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ?
Yes. I recommend twrp.
(3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio
None for the phone we are using A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Please don't upgrade the rom as it might mess with the boot("radio") . Upload your radio and wait for Dhiru's post.
thanks, where shall I get the Radio file please ?

Required advice pl. help somebody
Pl. advise as on which TWRP img file should I take into consideration for flashing, since my boot loader is old one the firmware no 4096, Software no is 1.54.651.8, and its sprint 831C (HTC ONE m8). I yesterday tried with the the latest 2.80 twrp img file but got stuck on "Entering Recovery" Screen, some how could manage to come back by Power+Vol up and when the screen got black then Vol Down which took me to boot-loader and then came back by reseting phone. Now the phone is working normal.
I am desperately looking to install CWM or TWRP , so that can take an nandroid backup of the system file, and later post it for the experts here to update the firmware and fix other issues......
snaps of device are attached here
Request all experts to kindly guide me here on it.
Thanking you in anticipation

Recover semi/softbrick, Downgrade, Lollipop Install -- Memopad 7 (ME572 only)

Hi All,
When I soft-bricked (long night and stupid choices of tweaking system files), I was unable to boot. Stuck at the Asus logo, at times not even the Asus logo would show. I took a few days but I finally figured it out.
After numerous methods tried and numerous failed attempts, I have narrowed down a successful process for recovering, downgrading and installing Lollipop. Please keep in mind that all cases are unique and this may not work for everyone. The zip folder contains all the tools and firmware builds needed to recover, downgrade, update your tablet.
Please note that this method was only tested on the non-LTE version of the tablet. This method may work if you substitute the firmware files. You can find links to these in the zip.
Another Note. To unbrick, follow the downgrade process. This should unbrick you.
By Clicking Download you agree that I in no way take any responsibility, liability either legally, morally, financially or any other way you could blame me for what you do or these applications do to your tablet or the opposite end of the spectrum, the amount of success to expect. This is at your own risk. I am only providing what I did to resolve my issue in hopes that it may help others.
IMPORTANT: You will lose all you data on the internal memory.
If you agree to the above please feel free to Download (1.87GB)

A lot can go wrong if you don't know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing, stop to ask in a forum. You look dumber making a mistake by assuming than asking the most basic of question. So please don't feel embarrassed to ask what may seem obvious or simple. There is also a FAQ below which I will update as needed.
Unfortunately I have to throw this in here:Questions regarding the LTE version will not be answered as I do not have this device.
Huge Credit goes to 4pda members for creating some of these tools that helped me create this all in one zip.
FAQ
Q: Will this void my warranty?
Absolutely
Q: Can you upload only certain files? I don't want to download the large 1.87GB zip.
Sorry, I don't have time to dig through and upload specific folders/files on an individual basis. Someone else however may do so if you ask nicely.
Q: Do I have to install Lollipop or Xposed**?
No, once you are on KitKat, you can stay on KitKat. **Do not install xposed unless you are on Lollipop, won't work anyway since the KitKat image isn't rooted.
Q: Can I take OTA updates?
A: I would advise against it and it will most likely not work or corrupt the device. You should disable/freeze (do not remove) the FOTA Update apk and update apks to make sure you don't receive them by accident.
Q: Can I use this method to install a non-rooted Lollipop firmware image?
A: Untested. Since you can't take the OTA anyway, root shouldn't hurt anything. Just open the SuperSU APK and set it to Deny All if root makes you paranoid.
Q: Will this work for the LTE version?
A: As it is zipped, no. The tools however should work. When I was researching the tools seemed to be device unbiased (except for the firmware). Included in the zip are the original links I used for research. There you can find the LTE version of the firmware images.
Q: Can I share this on other forums?
Sure, just please be sure to keep the zip unmodified and not take credit. The guys on 4pda took a lot of time developing and posting these tools. It took me some time as well to create instructions and gather the required files.
Reserved.
For what I don't know, but just in case.
Successfully downloaded. Thx for the work.

Thank you !!! I've just bought this model ME572c a few days ago. My tablet was bricked (black screen) after OTA update to WW_V12.14.1.12. I've managed to flash with your instructions, but when i try again to OTA update to WW_V12.14.1.12, just after finishing the update, tablet reboots and remains with black screen. I ve tryed to update from SD card (with official firmware and your lollipop firmware) and the same thing happens. Do you have any ideea why is this happening. Thank you very much !!
File download link?
Hello,
Came across this thread as I was planning to revive my old ME572C (5.0.1, getting laggy). Download links no longer work. Any chance you'd reupload the files?
Thanks!

Steps to Upgrade S6 Edge G925A (AT&T version) to Android 7.0 Nougat

I am a newbie and this is the first time I have tried anything out of the way to update my phone. I have an unlocked S6 edge AT&T version which was running MM 6.0.1. I wanted to update it to the latest Android Nougat and in order to do that I started searching online, but there was no such straight post or article where I can get everything in one place. I found a lot of information and many ways to upgrade the firmware but not all the steps were perfectly placed.
Anyways, I referred to many articles and posts and realized that it could be risky but doable so I went ahead and did it successfully. Though I faced few errors and issues but I found most of the resolution here at xda-developers and other online forums. I am writing this post to help all S6 edge owners who want to upgrade to Android 7.0.
My Phone Details:
Model: SM-G925A (S6 Edge AT&T)
Build: G925AUCS5DPJ1
Android: 6.0.1
There are two major steps involved to upgrade to the latest android version.
1. Flash the firmware with the higher security patch (keeping the device at Android 6) using ODIN software.
2. Upgrade the firmware to Android 7 using ADB software.
[Note: I might be using flash, upgrade interchangeably]
Downloads
Tools :
Latest ODIN tool (I used 3.10.6)
ADB tool (I used 25.0.3 but you can find latest version here)
Firmware:
First you need to flash you ROM to reach G925AUCS5DPK5 build. You can download this file from here.
Refer to Post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6-edge/general/g925a-pk5-stock-repair-ota-7-0-t3564102
Then you have to update the firmware to get Android 7 using this fie SS-G925AUCS5DPK5-to-U5EQA8-UP (put a .zip after this file to make it recognizable by the tool)
Step 01: Flash latest security patch
ODIN Working:
Link 01: http://droidvendor.com/how-to-install-stock-firmware-using-odin-on-a-samsung-device/
Link 02: http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-nougat-on-att-galaxy-s6-s6-edge-sm-g920ag925a/
My recommendations:
1. Use 3.10.6 version.
2. Unpack the G925AUCS5DPK5.zip file and you will find 4 different .tar.md5 files namely AP, BL, CP and CSC.
3. Use all 4 files at once in ODIN. Do not use only AP. If you use only AP file then your phone will be updated to the latest security patch and will work fine but it won't update the baseband version and will still show it as G925AUCS5DPJ1 even though your latest build is G925AUCS5DPK5. This will create problem while going to Android 7.0.
4. Take proper back up of all your files before going ahead using Samsung SmartSwitch.(Download Links : Windows, Mac). This way you can take back up easily as well as your pc will have the latest USB drivers.
5. Make sure your phone baseband and build are same as G925AUCS5DPJ1.
6. Charge you phone at least 70% before going ahead. It is just a precaution in case this process takes longer than expected. (Mine was finished in 4 minutes)
Step 02: Update to Android 7.0
ADB Working:
Link 01: http://www.droidviews.com/download-latest-adb-and-fastboot-sdk-platform-tools-win-mac-linux/
Link 02: http://www.droidviews.com/install-apk-files-using-adb-commands/
My Recommendations:
1. Use the version I have recommended above instead of going to the latest version (I faced some issue with the latest one and had to go back to this version)
2. Instead of opening the command prompt from shift+right click. Use run or search cmd and open it as administrator.
3. Change the SS-G925AUCS5DPK5-to-U5EQA8-UP.zip to OTA.zip or any shorter name. It will be easy to type the command.
4. If you face any error try using adb kill-server and then use adb sideload <ota.zip>.
5. Be patient this process will take some time. Mine took 25 minutes to complete.
6. Again keep your phone battery charged enough to survive the process.
7. After restart my phone stuck at black screen AT&T logo for 5 minutes. So don't get worried just wait, it will work.
8. Read all the instructions twice on the links provided before going ahead. If you are not sure of any instruction you can search xda forum and you will find relevant information.
Problems/Issues I faced
1. Reduced Storage: After updating my phone to build G925AUCS5DPK5, I realized the phone is only showing 16gb storage while my phone internal storage was 64gb. ( I found the root cause when I got my 3rd error, for the storage issue I was not bothered enough but wanted to go ahead so that I can get Nougat soon)
2. ADB Terminated: My phone got this error when I was updating it to Nougat. (The error looked like this : terminate called after throwing an instance of std::logic_error what() ). I searched online I found out that this is happening because of the adb version I am using, so I downloaded another version and it went through without this error but gave me the below one.
3. Status 7 Error: Again in adb I faced this error. And the error looked like this: 'Verifying current system..."/system/csc/contents.db" has unexpected contents. Error Pic Link.
I searched online and found out that this could be related to CSC file which I have not updated in my first step. So this time I again performed my first step using Odin tool but I selected the 3 files except the AP and ran the process. Yippy, I got my storage back and in adb there was no any error going forward.
Conclusion: I got Nougat on my At&T S6 Edge but I faced few issues. Being a new comer it was not much difficult provided you have the information and passion to do it. The steps mentioned here are very specific to S6 Edge but it can be used for other versions as well. You only have to make sure you have the current files and build combination otherwise your phone could be bricked. I hope this post will be helpful for the users.
Thanks for the detailed instruction on how to upgrade. Very useful! I do have one question though. Does Samsung pay work after upgrading using the method stated above?
Thanks for the great step by step guide. The only amendments/extra things that might help a little more:
Step 1) I used ODIN v3.12 as described above. Loaded all 4 files, BL AP CP CSC
***Basic missing step in the guide was to use ODIN correctly, you need to put your phone into upload mode.***
***Basic step, to prepare to use adb you must enable USB debugging while you have the Step 1 complete before you start Step 2***
Step 2) I was getting the errors thrown with ADB terminated and did some research. You have to use v25.0.3 or else it throws the std::logic_error what() error. It was challenging to track down that version of the adb but I found it here: https://www.izzysoft.de/ftp/local/android/
***Basic Step, in order to use adb, you must put your phone in recovery mode*** (and be sure you use v25.0.3)
Thanks again for the great tutorial!
Shame you cannot start out with latest version of Baseband version: G925AUCS6DQC1 that is in the phone and not have to go Back a version first to PK5

i am curious, what specific issues did you have? should i stay on EQA8?
i had success with this method following the instructions and commentary going from DPK5 > EQA8. One additional thing to note is that each step of the process (odin, adb) will wipe the contents of the phone. I backed up with samsung switch, but it doesn't quite capture all the settings so you may want to use something else.
Hi
great post, i followed your instructions and i was able to get from DPK1 ( 6.01) to QA8. Now I noticed that G625AUCU5EQA8 is not the official ROM so would like to get at least to G925AAUCS6DQC1.
Do you know how to get from G625AUCU5EQA8 to G925AAUCS6DQC1?
thank you for your advice.

Yes. You can jump from whatever baseband you have to most of full Odin files.

Ok thank you, I will use this method soon, I wish that work
I am still rooted with OE2 5.0.1
Is there any way to update my device using ODIN without losing the root? Just curious. Switching to Fi and I unlocked my phone from the carrier, but since its 5.0.1 it wont run the Project Fi app which requires 5.1+ to activate and operate.
Illiteracy and instruction...
I would like to know why it seems like the only threads on how to upgrade a SM-G925A from 5.1.1 to Nougat lack clear language, in an organized fashion, that would allow those most challenged by the process to accomplish the task with the least amount of frustration. I really cannot comprehend how it is that someone considered a "Senior Member" is permitted to instruct on complex procedures, when it is apparent the person does not have a fluency in the language being used. I don't say this as an insult to anyone's culture or ethnicity, it just adds to the difficulty. Where are the moderators (Admins) when you need clarity. There must be someone who can impart the step-by-step procedure concisely. This forum is not useful for its intended purpose otherwise.

What you talking about? This is very easy process. But there is even easier of you read another threads and learn from XDA or YouTube how to use ODIN. When you ready to try Odin you can flash firmware from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3611271 . This is 100% stock AT&T Nougat 7.0 Odin firmware use by Best Buys or Smasung to restore phones.
BTW Senior Members are mostly who build this forum. So just follow instructions, sit back and enjoy. If you need more clarification use your best friend Google or YouTube.

Clarity wins
First of all, not admitting your English grammar is in need of some fine tuning doesn't help to clarify the issue. Additionally, combining both ADB sideloading and Odin, without clearly delineating which zip files need to be acquired for accomplishing the task using one or the other method, just adds to the confusion. I upgraded my phone using Odin and the "OCF" "tar" files. But, I was getting confused as to whether I also needed to use ADB to get to "OCF". I started off at "BOJ9". Not wanting to brick my phone led to much trepidation. I wanted to be absolutely sure. The main question I needed clarified was whether I could go from "BOJ9" to "OCF" without needing to go through each iteration. Many people had asked this question, but no specific answer was ever given. Thus, my frustration. I did eventually figure it out, but coming to XDA looking for a clear answer was not the solution. I see a lot of posturing, responders getting snarky telling the confused it's in some thread yet to be dug into or just being rude. Just help. Really, if that's not why you're here, move on.

First of all English is my sixth language I know 5 more, how much more you know, second this is international forum open for whole world, third I'm almost 55 years old and understand all process ( this telling me one or two things about you) . You must be millennial who thinks he is most important person on world. If you don't like it move on to different place.
And yes you can go strait by ODIN from your build to QCF with out any problem, but seems like you not read enough.
O! One more you must be Polish because only this people critique other people's language ability, I know because I was like this once.
Edit: Also I see inability to follow instruction or search. You need to have everything put for you on silver platter.
On Edge of Galaxy
Attitude instead of resolution.
So, here it starts, attitude. I'm 56 and will shortly be 57. I am no millennial. Secondly, perhaps you should focus on your English grammar skills. While you may speak several languages, your skill with written English is atrocious. Even if your English grammar was passable, you have no skill at writing an organized and cohesive text. A simple, step-by-step guide to accomplish the task. Putting up a few links mixed with gibberish is not helpful. It's lazy and sloppy. Have some pride in your work. Exhibit some maturity and avoid superfluous writing.

You don't need a custom recovery to install Magisk. I'm not gonna sit and watch some video about what you have and haven't done, so I'm not sure what how-to you've been following.
But, I can tell you what instructions you should be following (the official Magisk docs):

yes u do need a custom recovery as said on this page here - https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-magisk/
"What You’ll Need:
A device running Android 4.2+
Custom Recovery (how to install)
We’ll be using TWRP in this guide"
i have the magisk manager already install as is my phone it rooted as u can see in this SS from the phone here - https://imgur.com/a/Kq1EChq but as u see magisk has a red X since its not installed so i go to install it but it give a .zip so i use that and it errors out EVERY ****ING TIME as see here - https://imgur.com/a/VyAslvt
if u toke a few mins of your day to watching the video instead of being a ass and commenting that knowning full well u could have watched the video to see i did everthing that the pages sad u wouldnt be most the comment u just did. u just make yours look like a ass. i want ppl the help me not say "u dont need a custom recovery" when the page on the how to install SAYS U ****ING NEED ONE.
No need to swear or scream at me... I am actually trying to help.
I did not need to watch that video (and didn't feel like spending 12 minutes doing it, would have been better to just link that how-to from the start), since from your post I knew you had not been following the official Magisk docs (that I linked you). If you took a moment to read those you would have seen that you don't need a custom recovery to install Magisk (it can be useful, but you don't need one).
The guide you've been following is outdated (but unfortunately doesn't have a date, so that's hard to know). Take a look at the link I posted above and see if you can figure things out from there.
If you need further help it's just too ask (but without the swearing and screaming, please). It's also possible that you can find some information in my Magisk guide:
https://didgeridoohan.com/magisk/HomePage
You might run into some troubles since you're already rooted with some other root solution, but there's a section about that as well in my guide (if you're using a systemless root that is):

The instructions by @topjohnwu are pretty complete... They do assume that you are somewhat familiar with things like fastboot, but that is information that can easily be found by searching the big ol' interwebz.
Using a custom recovery is one of the ways of installing Magisk. If this is the route you really want to go I suggest you take a look in your device's forum here on XDA:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3
That's usually a good first step since you'll likely find others discussing the same device specific topics.
But if you take a look again in the linked docs, you'll find that you can also use something called boot image patching (which doesn't require a custom recovery at all):
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#boot-image-patching
Rooting and tinkering with your device does require a certain level of knowledge about what you're doing. If you can't follow/understand the instructions available there's a good chance you might mess up your device. If you have your data backed up somewhere off the phone (which you should always have when playing with this stuff) you should be good since a complete and catastrophic failure is very unlikely. It's really annoying to have to set everything up from scratch though...
But if you take a look again in the linked docs said:

You'll need the boot image that corresponds to your currently installed firmware/ROM. If that is the firmware you have, then that should work.
You'll need to install the Manager again so that it can patch the image.
A small warning as you progress further: I've seen reports of old Sony devices having issues installing Magisk. Therefore it might be a good idea to visit the Z3 forums (linked in my previous post) and see if there's any information available on this before you continue. Doing proper research before committing always helps in the long run.

No. If you want to install Magisk you should not install any other root solution.
Install the Manager.
Patch the boot image.
Flash the patched boot image to your device.
Those are the basics...

ok now im lost again. to do date dumps for Uta-Macross i need a rooted phone so i can pull the files without windows again tard and saying "unknow error" when i go to copy the files from my phone. but to play this game i need to hide the root from Uta-Macross so i need to use Magisk. is Masgisk a root itself? im really lost again
Magisk provides a way to do systemless modifications to your device, it is a root solution in itself, and it has the ability to hide itself and it's components from most apps and services that look for a rooted or modded device.
This is kind of the basics, so I reallly suggest you do more research before continuing. The best source for information is the Magisk GitHub page:
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
Start there, take a look at the readme and the documentation available and continue searching for whatever other information you might need.
I'm not going to be available for further assistance for the next 8 to 9 hours (I hope, but that's entierly up to my little one). G'night.
nothing i did worked. the .zip fail or the D6708_23.4.B.0.319_1288-1477_R30C.ftf file in the .zip witch in the rom from the phone, it will ALWAYS say failed, unsupported/unknow image format.
Morning. Like I posted previously, old (and new) Sony devices have been known to have issues installing Magisk. Search your device's forum for Magisk related posts and you'll likely find the info you need.
Good luck.
