P20 PRO - Enabling debugging USB on a blacked out screen - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi everyone.\
My new phone screen has died. It is completely black and being under a month old the supplier has agreed to replace it for me.
The only problem is I would like to back up my data before sending it back as it has sentimental photos of my child's first Christmas.
I thought I had selected- back up to cloud but while checking my gmail account this doesn't seem to be the case, I also didnt select enable usb debugging either.
Because of this, as you can imagine, I can't access my phone via my pc at all. All extraction apps also require the usb debugging to be enabled and because my screen is completely blank I cant do this.
I have tried casting and mirroring my phone too, with the hope of being able to actually see the screen I could select what I need to and then use hi suite to retrieve my data, but again as I cant see the screen I cant give permissions or downloads apps for android etc
I am at a complete lost, and literally have tried everything I can think off.
Please can someone help save the day!

Use usb c to hdmi cable!

Stock Z1 Locked

Can anyone help me?!?! I have a stock Z1 on T-Moible. The screen cracked by itself, and digitizer will not work. I can not access the phone via usb, I plug it into my PC it sees it but will not see content due to the password lock. Not sure is USB debugging is on...most likely not.
I have photos of a friend that has passed I would like to save them. Sony will fix the screen for me but they will wipe it clean in the process.
I've downloaded ABT but not sure how to use it .or it's not seeing the device due to debugging not on. I desperate here any help would be appreciated!

Accessing phone files without the touch screen?

Well it happened guys. Through some terrible luck, my phone dropped to the ground, shattering the screen and making the touch functions unusable. There are some photos on it from my vacation that I'd like to save, but when I connect it to the PC it doesn't recognize the device (Windows 10). I also can't unlock my phone since the touch screen doesn't work. So, is there any way I can at least back my photos up without using my phone's menu? Thanks for the help.
You can try using a USB mouse with an adaptor for micro USB. It worked on my Sony z1 when I broked my screen.

Make sure your photos aren't already backed up via Google Drive or Dropbox?
I know one friend who was worried, but ALL her smartphone pictures were auto backed up on Google Drive.
https://drive.google.com/drive/photos
Yes, Dropbox you have to configure, but apparently many phones are already configured to auto backup with Google Drive over Wi-Fi. At least hers was. Anyway, go to that URL and see...
I have mine auto-backup over Wi-Fi to both Dropbox and Google Drive.

EDIT:
As of beginning of August, Google Photos (separate app) took over for Google Drive Photos. So, all your pictures prior to the last six weeks may be at that URL above.

Recover pictures with broken screen. Please help.

My wife dropped her phone and the screen is now completely dead but the phone still works as it gets notifications etc. I enabled google back up a while ago but looking at her account it hasn't updated since March. This mean about 1/3 of my son's pic's will be lost forever unless I figure this out. I've tried everything I can think of and have searched for hours but I cant find anything useful. I think I have some driver issues on my PC on top of this as it wont connect to my Moto X PE with MTP and USB debug enabled with moto's device manager software installed. Please help. I'd pay if I need to at this point.
Did you enable the app Google photo's? If so, your photo's should be backed up on the Google photo's site (just Google) check that site first on your wife's Google account before doing anything drastic.

Maybe its too illogical but install twrp... Boot into it and try accessing your internal storage on PC from there as twrp supports MTP.

Hopefully Svanmansom's advice helped and the photos were backed up with the Google Photos app. If not, there are ways to access the phone without a working screen, provided the phone itself still works as you suggest. If your computer truly doesn't recognize the phone either no matter what you try (reinstalling the drivers, trying a different USB port, etc), and another computer isn't available, it may cost a few bucks. Here is a general list of possible solutions:
http://joyofandroid.com/cracked-or-broken-android-screen-recover-photos/
And if your phone is locked:

I hope you were already able to get the photos much more simply. Good luck.
Hi, I have an idea, you could try to use a MHL cable to conect your device to the TV, once conected get to the playstore, then dowload Airdroid and back up your photos to you PC directly. This is a theory. Good Luck! =)
Thanks all for the tips. I bought an MHL cable only to find out the 2014 moto x doesn't support mhl. I had photos back up enabled but it apparently hadn't updated since March causing this whole issue. So far I still can't get the 2 PCs I have easy access to even recognize it in device manager. That joyofandroid site is what got me thinking mhl only to find it doesn't support it. Very frustrating, there has to be a way.

Broken screen and backup

hello, ive drop my phone the other day and i cant see nothing on the screen. Is there a way to backup my date before sending it to repair. Ive tried using a otg mouse but doesent work. Was looking online for some mirroring app but nothing works, im sure ive got developer mode on. Just order a mhl to hdmi to see if it works. is there anyone that can guide me in the right direction so after connecting my phone can acces huawei backup or other app. thnks in advance
What happens if you connect to HiSuite? If only screen is broken you should be able to copy your data !
I need to allow from phone in order to connect

ahh.. damn.. thats true!!
is the touch function still working ?
if yes, just unlock it using face unlock or fingerprint,
plug to pc, and tap around the area where you normally tap "Transfer Files" upon plugging to PC,
hopefully you managed to tap it on the right place,
once it detected by the PC, just do adb pull comand from adb to manually backup data or even whole media

Screen Broken - Cant Use - How do I export data?
What an amazing mobile the ROG 2 is.
No complaints really. Though I did drop it and the screen is broken so I am sending it off for a repair (if possible).
I cant use the screen at all, and they told me that the data needs to be wiped before its sent (or they will wipe it anyway).
Any idea how to get data off it, like contacts etc without using the screen?
Thank you all.
Your contacts should sync to your Google account. Go to contacts.google.com to verify they have already synced.

Thank you for the reply. What about messages, whatsapp etc
Is there any known software without using the screen?
Use an otg dongle and connect a mouse to the phone, you should be able to click like touch.

Hi, how did you get on reference the above?
Try a USB c hub and connect a monitor and mouse?

I think I am right in assuming that i need to give permission on my ROG to allow screen mirroring on a monitor. But of course I cant do that as I dont have access to the screen.
Am I right or is there a workaround?
Thanks

If you have allowed adb before, you can use adb pull command to copy files to a computer.
Changing the screen wont require data reset, I dont know why they are insisting on wiping the data!
you can also try this and see if it works: connect the phone to a pc and when the phone asks for permission, have a mouse connected to the phone and click the place that the allow button is most probably is.(it's on bottom right corner about a centimeter up and left) if you're set to English that is.
but you have to be able to unlock the screen before that somehow. maybe the fingerprint still works?
And my last option would be to get the screen replacement yourself and do it yourself if the data really matters to you. getting the broken screen off the phone shouldnt be much of problem because it's already broken so what could go wrong right?
and you will just have to apply the new screen with care and proper glue that you can get from a phone shop.
Sure you have fixed by now but incase or if anyone else lands here, You can use USB C TO HDMI (Cable, dongle, etc) and hook it to computer screen,TV. I had adapter and hooked a mouse to navigate. Though very poorly, I could still use touch screen
