Note 9 one ui icon frame missing... - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello...
I have recently updated my device to android pie which gave me one ui from samsung also... i dont like the rounded frames of icons and prefer icons as developers provide.... anyhow i cant find a way to disable icon frames on my phone... i have tried all the menus in settings and searched everywhere... before one ui you can find the setting in display setting of your device but i cant find it anywhere now...
Is it related to android pie not supporting such thing or have samsung removed the feature ?
Please let me know

You can't remove icon frames in One UI. You can always download an icon set in the Samsung theme store.

[Q] How to force EMUI not to add icon background?

Emotion UI cuts icons corners to make it rounded (iOS like) and adds background to every icon, even to these with transparent parts. It tries to pick at least similar color to icon, but still it looks horrible with many icons. Any idea how to disable this feature?
I agree it doesn't look good at all. The only way to do it is by finding a theme which allows you to have transparent icon backgrounds. Usually a Lollipop or a Material theme will have that.

It is a Q&A thread and a very valid question which many people will have. Even I had it when I got a Huawei phone and eventually figured out you had to change it with themes. Problem is they don't include any themes which disable that by default. So you have to search the web and look all over just to find a theme which supports icons with transparent backgrounds. It's no easy task and honestly it should at least come with one theme out of the box which allows for icons with transparent backgrounds.
The only solution I could find was running a different launcher. I'm running Nova Launcher and a Marshmallow theme now and this has oddly enough made me much happier with my phone.

EMUI 8.1 custom Themes issues (partially incompatible with EMUI 8.0 themes)

Hi,
This thread is to report custom themes issues - as I noticed currently available themes (working fine on EMUI 8.0 phones) are partially incompatible with EMUI 8.1 on our P20 phones.
Known issues (EMUI 8.1 vs EMUI 8.0):
- sms app is no longer supported (there is no longer Huawei sms app - Google Messages instead, completly inconsistent with EMUI design...)
- some (not all) custom screen locks are not working
- custom settings menu icons are not visible (only default ones)
- general issue with non-system app icons - most of them are not changing with theme (even if there is custom icon inside theme)
- custom status bar and notifications are not working
I received my P20 today, so i'll update above list during my tests. If you notice any not listed issue - let me know, i will add it.
I'll try to find a solutions for that issues - but of course any help is appreciated
Life saver!
I've been playing around with the themes and noticed my notifications had disappeared from the lock screen. I had assumed it was another setting I'd changed by mistake, but couldn't find what I'd done.
Found this thread last night, stuck the theme back to Romance, and the notifications are back!

But you can use custom theme with standard lock screen - and notifcations should appear
Any custom lockscreens that work with notifications? I tried a few but none display spotify lockscreen controls. I ask because I'd prefer a lockscreen with the clock at the top instead of the bottom like the magazine theme.

Try lockscreen from my SimpleP theme - there is a clock in the top and spotify controls work
I have the same problem. I tried some custom themes and now, no matter what theme I choose, notifications won't expand, I can only read notification first line. And yes, with some custom themes, notifications won't show at all.
@mr.mrcn I can't find SimpleP theme

It is in my app (link is in the signature). But notifications in this lock screen don't expand either.
They are not expanding for me as well, seems like a stupid bug (much like no synchronized volumes with Bluetooth audio devices)
EMUI 8.1 ignores all xml images in custom themes, they are displayed by default.

Not quite true, in my theme are all icons changed, and some other stuff too. I don't have much time to look around, but some paths of icons are different from previous versions. Will try with png's and new folder paths. ???

Because all icons are round and there is no special mask in this icon pack Look at my screenshot - there is a mask, but for unknown reason is not applied to some icons (like gmail, slack, whatsapp..), but for other it is (facebook, telegram..).

Do you think this will be fixed soon?
Probably Huawei actually wants it like this, I think they would've fixed it already

I think not..they would not include a theme engine if they do not want customers to change the look of it..but that is my opinion

You can still change UI colors and drawer icons... Maybe they just want you to do it/they want developers to optimize their themes for the p20/p20 pro before allowing them to change navbar icons/notification tab icons and stuff, at least imo
No Status Bar for me at all, tried Factory reset, the same.

Change appearance of the quick setting/notification panel

Hi,
I'm wondering if there is a way to get a stock Android/Pixel like looking notification and quick setting panel/menu for EMUI 9.1 (I just like its simple icon style and the darker background compared to the particularized bright EMUI appearance).
Something like that is what I'm looking for.
I already found some information on launchers etc., but it doesn't seem to affect the panel in the top:
https://blog.en.uptodown.com/simulate-android-stock-huawei-emui
https://theunlockr.com/huawei-p20-stock-android/
This XDA icon pack does not seem to yield the desired results either (regular app icons are changing, not the top panel though).
Thanks for some info
The only way is to use PowerShade.
It creates an overlay on top of the stock notification panel.

We have to wait untill EUMI 9.1 themes will be available. 9.0/9.0.1 themes are not compatible.

Alright, I tried these kind of apps now and it doesn't really seem to be of any convenience. A lot of system permissions have to be set and then it only works for the drop down menu, but not the actual notification panel at the top.
Thanks though!

Sorry but this is all new to me. You mean we just have to wait until a custom made Android-like looking theme pops up in huawei's theme gallery?
I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but I really like this theme, and it gives dark notifications and volume slider...

Can I change One UI Icons system wide? (root)

Hey guys,
so yeah, question is in the title. I really like One UI, but I am not a huge fan of its icons. So I installed Nova Launcher and a nice icon pack.
Problem is that in multitasking view for example the apps still have their original icon. Also when opening the handy sidebar, the original Icons are displayed. And since I want everything to be consistent that kind of kills it for me. And before you suggest it: I hate the icons in the galaxy store.
My S10+ is rooted, so do you guys know of any way to change the One UI Icons system wide to whatever I want? Like with root explorer or something?
Help would be much appreciated!
I would like to do the same...
On my Huawei P10 with EMUI there was a theme creator app where you could add whole icon packs. I really miss this on One UI

After Update: How to move clock back to right side of notification bar?

Hi ,
I've installed te latest update (Android 10, One UI 2.0)..., now the clock is on the left side of the notification bar, which is really annoying...
Any easy solutions to move it back to the right? Good Lock is not available in my country (Germany)
Cheers
Use SystemUITuner. personally I have everything disabled on my status bar, and QuickStar isn't up to date anyway. So systemui tuner is the easiest method I'm aware of.

System UI Tuner works perfectly fine. Its the first thing I did since updating to 10 on my S10 and have had 0 issues with it (aside from the battery icon re-appearing after restart, which i just toggle again)
Not working on One UI 2.0.
The system icons blink for a second when changing the clock position setting but the clock does not move.
Ahhh okay I see what you mean now. It seems like that's the one thing that isn't working.. that and the battery icon. Other than that everything can be toggled normally.. hmm wonder why
Anyone else has all the notification bar icons come below the notch when dragging down the notification bar?

Some of the icons can be hidden. Like Wifi and Volume, others like Battery stay and the clock unfortunately does not move. (S10e One UI 2)

How far did your "complaining" get you?
I'm sure developers are aware of Android 10 issues with their apps - some of which are provided free - and will publish updates when they can.
Be patient...

Clock on S10 devices has always been in the top left corner of the screen, even on Android 9...
It hasn't been introduced with One UI 2 nor Android 10 dude
Sure, before these it was on the right side, and before the last Update I could use SystemUI Tuner or GoodLock (one of these) to move it back to the right side. And I think many people were complaining. Just was wondering why nobody is doing it now
Alright, no worries, if there's no solution avaialble yet, I will just wait and see.
btw: Is there any special reason why GoodLock is not available in Germany? I always have to remove my SIM and use a VPN to use it.

Samsung choice maybe, idk really...
As a workaround, try to download it directly from APKmirror here : https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...ung-good-lock-1-0-00-53-android-apk-download/
This version is from 5th August so it has been made for Pie, maybe you'll have to wait for Samsung to update it and make it Android 10 ready.
This is so ****. It seems there really is no solution to move the clock since the update to 10!

I've got an S9+ and also been dealing with this issue. As small an issue as it is, the clock on the left really bugs me
I just installed Good Lock, which led to QuickStar, which I guess is updated now - clock moved!
Just install "Fine lock" from Play Store, then install QuickStar plugin
Great tip! I have installed the apk and have got the clock on the right side finally! (S10+ One UI 2.0).
I had SystemUI Tuner doing this before in combination with the nav bar color option (black). So using both as of today.
