Need TWRP or CWM recovery to root Blackshark Helo! - Xiaomi Black Shark Helo Questions & Answers

It's been months since this device is launched, but there are no official or unofficial recovery or custom ROMs released till now. I need to root the device so that I can enjoy features like Viper FX and other Magisk modules. I have searched a lot of forums but there seems to be no thread regarding the rooting process of Xiaomi Blackshark Helo.
The device is a great gaming phone with very high specs. Surely, a lot of custom ROMs can be ported for this device since its OS is close to stock android (JOYUI). Is anyone willing to port custom recovery for this device? It will be really appreciated
Blackshark Helo users please rate this thread to show awareness of this device to the developers!

Not true, you can manually patch the boot.img, then boot it and make the root through magisk manager

I know that method but there is no boot.img available for black shark helo yet, so how do I even patch it? Since this device is becoming popular why isn't there any ROM or recovery available yet, I wonder.?

i have flash your boot patched with root but my wifi il locking off and I can not activate it anymore

I changed the slot on B and it seems to rework everything, then I tried to go over A and extract the boot B and patch with magisk, I tried it with fastboot boot, but it remains the usual problem, no wifi no audio and no microphone

use your simcard. then update the magisk if its needed tobe updated. then, go to instal. and choose direct install. then reboot.
remember, fastboot boot is temporary. fastboot flash is permanent. so no worry if you think you lose wifi, after reboot, it will be fine. let me know.

woooo thanks kanded, now everything works perfectly and I also root! I think I will do a post with the guide on how to root

Is it possible to get twrp for this device? That will makes things easier and little bit safer..

mmmm, yes I'm going to work on twrp but still I'll make my boot patch available, which makes the phone fully functional but first I need someone with a black shark helo without root that tests my boot

I tested twrp for black shark, but the touch-screen does not work, surely it must be modified and adapted for black shark helo but I'm not able

i dont know which twrp you tested, but if its mauro's twrp, best believe, our display is different, ips and amoled, but somehow, i tried the twrp into blackshark helo, and it went well, just the flipped things. but all functions still work as it should be.
search for mauronofrio's twrp for blackshark 1st gen. and try to fastboot boot it.
anyway, rooting is easy without twrp, i choose without twrp for rooting. but if you're more into flashing any flashable zips, lets say the decryptingzip, twrp is your choice.
happy bootlooping everyone.

Nvidia SHIELD Portable Root

Hi everyone!
This morning I woke up to find my SHIELD with the so waited notification of Lollipop update. I'm really happy to finally have lollipop running on my device, but sadly I found a problem after the update. I was trying to re-root my device, but neither the SHIELD RAM tool or Root Genius could do the trick. But I didn't gave up, I searched in Google any way to root my SHIELD with the still fresh update, and found that the Kinguser app can root it without trouble.
You just need to download the apk, install it on your SHIELD and open it.
Btw, the old recovery isn't working anymore, you can flash it with the RAM tool, but the device will reflash the stock recovery.
twrp works, but SU binary still wont flash :/
edit - the combination of this APK and TWRP gave me all I need for root + rebooting and keeping root
Yeah, I was about to say that. The TWRP recovery works like a charm, but Supersu binary won't install. But well, the KingRoot app is pretty good.
I can confirm some problem with supersu and update 103. I flashed 2.46 and my portable wouldn't boot. Like, something broke so bad I had to reflash 101 and update again. The later might indicate backups are broke in my twrp, I'll have to look into that. For now, I'm going try kingroot as suggested here and continue other development.

So you were successful in getting TWRP installed, SuperSU installed and removing KingRoot clean - leaving only SuperSU on the system, surviving a reboot?

hey wolf, what is the easiest way to flash twrp with the 103 upgrade? thanks
You might wanna include the instructions as shown here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...how-to-root-lollipop-xperia-tablet-z-t3115107
It basically tells you how to install SuperSU and remove the entire KingRoot library after that. It worked on my Z and on my SHIELD as well.
This was essentially what I did:
http://greenrobotgamer.com/shieldzone/root-shield-portable-lollipop-5-1/
Mine seems to be working just fine, after obtaining root and installing SuperSU. I didn't bother with installing TWRP, I just hotboot the recovery. I'm rebooting my SHIELD as we speak, see if there's any issue
EDIT: Scractch that, it's not booting. How do I flash the latest image back in?

Boot the SHIELD in fastboot and connect it to your pc, then open a command window in a folder with the adb files and the recovery image and type: fastboot flash recovery -the name of the recover-.img, and it will flash the recovery. You can do that with the stock too.

ok long story short: since i had the shield drivers installed and tha adb drivers installed i did the oem unlock and after a confirmation screen on the shield i did it, then i immediately flashed the twrp image from the same command line. now the shield is stuck in nvidia android boot logo. any suggestions? thanks
I am in fact stuck in the boot as well. Anyone's got stock image we can flash?
nevermind, after like 10 minutes the thing just booted fine, these are the perks of being a newb.

Search for the SHIELD RAM Tool, it have everything that you all need to flash recovery or old firmware to unbrick the device. It also comes with the necessary files and drivers to work ADB Fastboot.

I just re-flashed the system using RAM, should be fine now. I'll just have wait for the OTA all over again. UGH.
I wish someone could provide a KitKat version tho.
EDIT: Annnd battery's at 15% so the system won't let me OTA yet.
SuperSU will work fine with my latest TWRP builds posted here. The older 2.8.5.0 builds will not work, neither will any build in the linked thread before yesterday. I used SuperSU 2.49 Beta and it worked as expected.
Side Note: The older builds will have the problem where boot will just hang. That seems to be because the older builds didn't have selinux policies built in, so some things never get set up right and the boot panics.

Thanks alot, I'd love to have TWRP 3.0.2 on stock rom.
But I can seem to get it to work, tried on a customized US an a customized DE stock image, latest version.

Yes bootloader is unlocked. kernel.sin for Custom DE attached (SGP612_Customized DE_1290-4946_23.5.A.1.291_R2D)
I don't get it to work either. SGP611, using SGP611_23.5.A.1.291_1290-0168_R4D customized UK. Won't boot, only flashes its red little light. Did you find any solution to it? Would be awesome to get this kernel.
Hi,
Have I sent you the correct file? Did you get the time to have a look at it?

If you are getting a black screen after flashing the kernel, just force restart the device. Then the device will boot fine.
Could a version of this be build with the device name "scorpion"? It won't let me install this ROM since the device name doesn't match (it seems to be empty in this image whereas that ROM requires it to be "scorpion").
Edit: nevermind, figured out I can modify the script in side the ROM to remove the check instead.
Thanks for a working TWRP for my old tablet

This kernel is only for SGP621. It's clearly mentioned in OP.
Think you!
Not easy for an old man, but after several times it went perfect.
Not able to tell you what I did exactly but I have SGP621, french 6.01.
SGP612 boot.img
Hi,
I made a boot.img for the SGP612 [6.0.1] [23.5.A.1.291] unlocked BL.
Sony RIC disabled
TWRP 3.0.2
(DRM fix)
Root and Xposed is NOT included. I recommend flashing Magisk v12 later in TWRP and enable Magisk Core Only Mode and Magisk Hide in the settings. Then it will pass the SafetyNet test and you can use su.
To flash the boot.img, put your SGP612 into fastboot mode (Volume Up + connect USB) and then run:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If you have a backup of your TA partition, before you unlocked, see the rootkernel thread by tobias.waldvogel, how the DRM fix works.
Thanks to codfx for give me the idea for a SGP612 counterpart and to tobias.waldvogel for his tool :good:

Install the unofficial one from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3779400
Just flash it over the one you currently have with the same method you used before via fastboot.
When you issue the 'fastboot reboot' command after installing unplug the usb cable straight away and hold volume up button until it boots to TWRP. This will stop TWRP being overwritten by stock recovery on first boot. Disable all fingerprint/pin/password/face unlock security first, to be able to see your files correctly.
Youre better off flashing Magisk than SuperSU

Any other recovery i try also locks me from booting before i reinstall spark.
I've been hating every second with this phone.
When i compare the experience of modding it to my old Redmi 8, this phone is such a pain.
IMEI backups
No ROM's work
No recovery's work.
Now that I have only 1 IMEI i can no longer even go back to MIUI.

This is the only recovery that has so far worked for me to install a ROM through sideload. Otherwise its pretty useless.
Looking at the rom-lord files, theres quite a few roms/recoveries in there, ill try to test the recoveries and let you know.

well, I mean, it's MediaTek....
you can just go port TWRP to your device by yourself, OR use GSI ROMs! (though, GSIs are very.... general, and so, they might not work with certain hardware inside your phone, because they're designed to be a one-size-fits-all solution.) even better, go make a custom ROM for your device by yourself!

So, I figured out how to fix SHRP and other stuff not booting.
Download the last android 11 firmware from here, get the fastboot version. Flash it and then just proceed to flash SHRP and all your roms like normal.

Yes it will, back it up first
If you just want to root it, get the latest firmware from that website, extract the boot.img and patch it via the magisk app.
then just flash it via fastboot.
