Problems finding some downloaded files - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

I'm having a problem finding some files that I download from Google search. If I perform a download of one of these files and try to view it with Root Explorer or other file managers it does not show up in the internal storage Downloads folder. However if I open up the default "Files" application and click the Downloads link (three lines) I can see the files. If, using the same, "Files" application I instead click on "moto x4" and navigate to the downloads folder I can not see the files.
Where is the "Downloads" link in the "Files" application pointing? I've searched both internal and external storage from my PC and I can't find the downloaded file, by name, anywhere. I can copy it using the "Files" app to the internal storage "Downloads" folder but I don't know the location from which I'm copying.
Any help would be lovely. Thank you!

I don't have a Moto but on my phone, the first time you use the application you have to click on the three dot menu, upper right corner, and click "show internal storage".

You can certainly create and name new folders on the phone and place your files in those, or you could transfer folders from your pc to the phone with activesync. But once you click to install the cab files, you can't then choose the path to install to your folders, it'll only let you select to install to internal storage or device. Then it will install to the program files folder in either 'Internal Storage' or 'My Device.' Having said that, there might be some app or tweak around that allows you to do it.
ya,got any app can do that?programe too many icon, need to arrange ...in folder

How to create the ".nomedia" file....

I might be missing something really obvious here, but how are you supposed to create the .nomedia file so that the music player won't see files from system folders? I have a whole bunch of mp3's appearing in my music player because of Real Football 2010. If I try and create the file on Windows 7, it says "You must type a filename". Any help?

Open notepad, rename file ".nomedia" and change the file type from txt to "all files". Try again, report back.
rename it on the phone
Easier way is to create a folder directly inside the one that has the music files (did this on letsgolf it has tons of sounds) just tap create folder and name it .nomedia works for me.
Creating .nomedia folder in windows 7 solution
1. Goto command prompt : Run->cmd
2. Goto your flash drive e.g. F:
3. Goto you desire folder e.g. CD gameloft
4. type "copy con .nomedia" and press enter
5. press F6 and press enter.
This will create the .nomedia file in windows.
Old thread but here is a no Computer needed option:
Download ES File explorer (its free)
Install and open it
Navigate to the folder you want to exclude (remember it propagates down e.g. if you place it in the root of SD then the whole of SD is excluded including all the sub-folders)
Press Menu and select "new"
Select "File"
Call it .nomedia
Rescan your memory Cards
Sorted no PC required
thanks all above

The easiest way. Download and use from market the studio kuma .nomedia manager.

Does creating a .nomedia file in a folder also stops it from scanning lower folders?
Ex.
\Mystuff
\Mystuff\lotsofstuff
\Mystuff\lotsofstuff\pics
Will putting it in \Mystuff stop it from scanning the lower folders?

I have created a ".nomedia" file but the pictures in that folder still shows up in the gallery.. Anyone have similar experience?
Using SE Xperia Arc.
Restart ur phone so that media scanner runs once...
Gallery excluder is another app from the market you can use, even to restart the media scan afterwards to apply the changes.

You can open notepad via Windows->notepad and ctrl+S to save it (with blank content), in the "File name" field, you type ".nomedia" and in the "save as Type" field, you chose "All files (*.*))"
Good luck!:good:
No need to create file or using an application
You don't need to find a way to create that file. Connect your mobile to pc by USB and browse in your sdcard. Enable show hidden or system files from your operating systems file explorer. Find a .nomedia file and copy it to the new location you want. This is more practical. Also if you have a root explorer on your Android, you don't even need a pc.
AW: How to create the ".nomedia" file....
Another way doing this (imo the best):
1. Open terminal emulator and navigate to the folder
2. Type: touch .nomedia
3. Done

all the music files and images are not showing up

I'm confused. Are you saying it didn't see media before and after the file was in the directory? Did you restart?

[Q] Just a quick question

Hi, when you go into the "media" folder on your tab, is it possible to add more folders there then the stock photo, video, download?
Yes, its possible
And how do you do it?
Use the stock file manager "my files", or download astro file manager or efile from the market.
or use your pc/mac via usb
Using your tab only, click "my files" icon and navigate from there to wherever you want to place your new folder. Then use the context button to reveal the new folder menu, as well as rename and details options.
by the way, you might also be interested in a better media browser than the stock, use quickpic from android market.
also, if you add a blank file (usually a txt file) named .nomedia at the root of a folder which contains some files, the files won't get picked up by the media scanner and stay hidden, but will still be seen by file explorer like My Files.

Downloads Folder Question

Weird situation. When I download something using Chrome, it shows up in the Downloads "app" which I assume is just a folder. I can also see the Download folder in ES File Explorer as well as the file I downloaded.
Now if I copy another file to that folder, I see the file in the Download folder, but it doesn't show up when I click the Downloads "app" - only the actual downloaded file shows up.
How can I get all the files in the Download "folder" to show up in the Downloads "app"?
Thanks
Errr, the downloads app is not just a folder, its an actual APK that shows what downloads you have made on you phone.
Has nothing to do with the downloads folder, other then that is the folder when the downloads program downloads to.
I don't know that its possible with out someone making a new downloads apk that acts as you want.
That makes sense. Guess I could make a folder shortcut and use that to view them Thanks

Accidentally deleted the Downloads folder

So I accidentally deleted the Downloads folder on my internal storage while browsing the files on my PC and I immediately recreated it but its not working. I mean whenever anything is downloaded by the native Downloads manager app it shows up inside the app but not in the folder. I tried using both Download and Downloads as folder name but its still not working. My device has root access but I'm not able to find a Download(s) folder anywhere in the root directories either. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Did you check the permissions of the folder you recreated? Here's a snapshot (assuming I can figure this stupid app) of the permissions for the download folder on my htc m8. I imagine the permissions should be the same across devices.
Thanks for the response. I don't use ES File manager, only Solid Explorer for normal activities and Root Explorer for root related stuff etc. but if I'm not mistaken the dialogue in your screenshot represents global permissions, not just the permissions granted to the Download folder. Since the Download folder is located in the sdcard directory I believe the r/w permissions are automatically granted to the system. The issue probably lies somewhere else. The system download manager keeps storing downloaded files somewhere else, just not in the Download folder I created, and I've go no idea where or how to reassign it.
