For anyone having trouble installing Viper4Android on Pie - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I had trouble installing Viper through Magisk on Pie on my Exynos Note 9. It always told me to reinstall the drivers, but that didn't seem to work.
But I found a solution:
On XDA-Labs is a new version of viper available (Version 2.6):
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.pittvandewitt.viperfx
Simply install this version (I chose the beta), give it root permissions and you are set!
I also installed audio modification lib from Magisk to be on the safe side.
Only issue I noticed is that YouTube videos seem to hang for a few seconds before they start playing (I am using YouTube vanced from Magisk). Apart from that everything seems to be working well!
Hope that helps everyone who is having trouble on Pie!

It isn't asking me for root permission?

Strange.
But you are rooted with Magisk and have Magisk Manager installed?
Is the app showing up in Magisk Manager under the SuperUser section?
Maybe trying to install the app again solves your issue.

Correct, and nope it isn't showing up in the superuser section. Re-installing did nothing, it isn't working without root, atleast that's why I think it isn't working.

Yeah it needs root to put itself into some system files.
I just saw they released an update yesterday which is know marked as stable. (version 2.7). Maybe you have better luck with that.

It was working on 2.7 but it suddenly stopped
Now it's not enabled and not processing
Don't know how to fix
(Btw on Samsung Galaxy A8)

This was the only thing that worked. I've been trying different things and searching for hours. The stable version does not work on my exynos note 9. The beta does though!

[SOLVED]Magisk v10 - su binary out of date, but root still works

Since I upgraded from Magisk v9 to v10, every time I reboot my phone, I get a notification from phh's Superuser that says "Install Superuser" "The su binary is out of date." When I tap the notification, it just opens the Superuser app and doesn't ask me to update anything. Root still works normally, though. This is happening on a Nexus 5X running stock build NMF26F with no modifications other than Magisk itself, and no modules except for Superuser. The same thing happens whether Magisk Hide is on or off. I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling Magisk, which didn't fix it either. What could be causing it, and how can I fix it?
EDIT: Solved: Magisk 10.2 includes a new version of the su binary that fixes this issue.

This is because the su binary included in Magisk is a modified one & the official phh root manager detect that it is not equal to the lastest official su binary... just ignore that notification.
This happens on Magisk 9 as well I wish there was a way to turn it off but it's not really a big deal I guess.

Yep, I did some poking around and confirmed that. (It's also entirely because of the new Superuser module, not the new Magisk). I guess as a workaround for now, I can block the Superuser app from sending notifications. The good news is this, though:

Right now you still have to install the phh Superuser application, however the root management should move to Magisk Manager soon, please stay tuned.

This will take care of it. I'm not sure why he didn't wait to change the su version code until that was done, though, as that would have avoided this problem.
EDIT: And I also now see this listed as a known issue in the main Magisk post.
I am having the same issue, except none of my apps can see root.

Sorry if I sounded like one of those noobs that posts unrelated things in a random thread. I originally thought it was somewhat related since Magisk Manager said root was properly installed, but no other app recognized it.
I managed to fix that by un-installing and re-installing the phh superuser module. I am now just in the same boat as you, and I'll patiently wait for a fix.

Can confirm. On Nexus 5x 7.1.1 with no other modifications, but lost root after I updated to v10. However, after an uninstall and reinstall I was back in business. One note though, the installation through magisk manager failed, and I had to manually flash the zip in recovery.
Fixed with Magisk 10.2.

Make sure it automatically updated you to the topjohnwu r2 version of Superuser. If it didn't, do it manually from https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/magisk-phh-s-superuser-android-pay-t3435921. If that doesn't fix the problem, then your problem isn't this problem.

Yup all that done .. still have the same notification ..
I have the same problem.
1) i have tryed to flash magisk 10.2 by recovery but after flashing the s7 edge goes in bootloop (tyed with SuperSu disabled and without binary installed). So i had to flash the unistaller.
2) I even tryed enabled the chainfire SuperSu just for trying to flash the magisk+phh by magisk manager. Out of date. I think it cames cause magisk try to load the chainfire supersu binary and not the SU binary magisk has.
Help me please.
P.s. i have tryed with a clean boot image charged.
I had the same issue, and also noticed that su wasn't working in ADB. It looked like some permissions were wrong on the /magisk/phh directory. I solved it by uninstalling the phh superuser module from in Magisk Manager, then reflashing phh-superuser-topjohnwu-r2.zip in recovery.

Latest Halifax Mobile Banking not working with Magisk 16.7

Hi, my Halifax banking app stopped working after last update. Before last update there was no problems, but few days ago Halifax detects root again.
After last Halifax update I uninstalled app, rebooted phone and installed it again. After that I added it to Magisk Hide and rebooted again. Unfortunately it still detects root. I even tried to Repack/Hide magisk Manager itself but it also failed.
I also installed very old (22.1) version of Halifax app and it's working fine but as I said it's quite outdated. Anyway this problem is related only to latest versions of Halifax app.
What version are you using? I have 39.03 and magiskhide is working perfectly fine

That strange, v38 and V39 not working for me but v22 is working. Do You have Xposed installed?
Edit:
Just tested on another phone without Xposed, root is still detected. Also this phone is passing SafetyNet and Arriva app is working so Magisk Hide is working but not for Halifax.
That is strange, are you using a custom rom? I only have magisk installed and using a stock ROM on an S8
No, both phones (LG H870 and H340n) on stock rom. H340n is almost clean, only Magisk, no Xposed and other mods because I've been using it for payments.
Very weird, I've uninstalled mine and reinstalled and logged in fine
To make some test I even uninstalled all apps which using root and still nothing.
Ok, I found something. Tested all possible configurations of MagiskHide and other apps. The only way to make Halifax app working is disabling root in Magisk settings. After that it's working. Funny thing is that when I have Halifax on MagiskHide list it's not working even when root access is disabled.
Freezing or uninstalling Magisk Manager not working as well so it's not a problem with Manager detection.
And the funniest thing; I installed 22.1, configured and then updated to 37 --> 38 --> 39 and its working. Now I can open 39.3 without any problem. This is stupid!
I just installed a fresh stock android 9.0 to my pixel2 with TWRP and Magisk. Then I had same issue with root detection when I run the Halifax App. I cleared the halifax data and uninstalled. Then reinstalled halifax from google play. Added it to Magisk Hide then bingo it worked no root detection.

Magisk root detected by app

I am using the DnB online banking app. The new version of the app, released a few days ago, detects magisk root with hide turned on. Safetynett is also intact. Thought it may be of interest; I will be using the older version for now.

I have the same issue with Santander Wallet. But SafetyNet is intact and I am able to use GPay.
Please share if you find a solution elsewhere.
Any solution to this?
My banking app checks if ADB debugging is enabled, but it still says "root detected". If I disable ADB debugging, it works fine

Same thing with the Barclays banking app. It was working fine until a few days ago with Magisk Hide. Now, the app sends a superuser request and no matter what you choose (grant or deny), it detects the phone is rooted and gives a message that it doesn't support rooted devices. Also, the app hasn't updated since January 4th, so something else must have changed.
Edit. Using this method worked for me https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/santander-app-custom-rom-root-device-t3794753/post77321403#post77321403
I use two apps which are detecting root in my OnePlus 6 with OOS Beta 11 and Magisk 18:
VR-SecureGo
Die TK-App
Same problem
Well, I am not using a "Banking" app. But can say that an install of the Marlboro app.!!!
Install was ok. However, when starting app, it said that my phone was rooted! Then it stated that it can not be used on my devise and shut down. Will not actually restart now!
Devise - Samsung Galaxy S5, On Lineage 15.1 latest build, as well as Unofficial 16.0 build. With or with out SmartPack Kernel.
Both using the Latest Magisk 8.1!
(Yes, no Exposed used) just a few modules...
P. S. I can say, in 7.0-7.3 this was NOT an issue.
My only, other issue with 8.0 an 8.1.... Extremely hard to use the 2nd Partition (formatted - Ext4) Using Link2SD Plus! Can say didn't not have this on on prior Versions.
Still trying to fix this, but nothing yet (working many hours this past week) and nothing to stick... Yet!
Tanx for letting me blow off some steam on this...
Anyone that's having issues with root detecting apps could give the new MagiskHide implementation a try (it's been rewritten from scratch). Would be interesting to know if there's any improvement... Currently only found in the Canary builds (as of now at build 18108), but will of course find it's way to a stable release eventually. Having more users test the new implementation before a stable release is of course always nice though...
I tried beta manager, same thing. Unable to pay with Google pay.
Tesco pay+ now detects root as of today. It is enabled in Magisk Hide. App last updated 31st Jan but it was working fine last weekend - Google changed detection possibly?
if you have warez apps (lucky patcher, freedom, creehack, aptoide, acmarket, gameguardian etc) installed it may detect and uses 'root detected' as a generic message
My phone is One Plus 5T with bootloader unlocked and using the BETA latest OxygenOS.
Nothing was updated and from one day to another my google pay does not work anymore. Tried to add the card again, and it told me about "my phone is altered in some ways"
Before magisk was doing the job. Looks like we need to wait for some updates. I am amazed about the only few entries I found in internet about that.

infinity rom.
magisk v18 and also newer test canary builds.
but prety sure its an issue where you don't wait 3 minutes after rebooting before doing actions that require root.
and not sure to which extent you tried to make magisk work with various files and mods but maybe you should just factory wipe and try and get magisk working before anything else. also mayke sure busybox is installed. and dont forget that 3 minute rule after a reboot.

yeah still doesnt work, latest sky go app 20, latest magisk, still detects, anyone able to reverse the sky app to see what methods its using?
Fyi - any version other than the latest (20.6.1) at the moment forces an upgrade to 20.6.1, which then detects root.
Safety net is passing both basic and cts with Eval type basic. I'm on latest canary (20425).
I've tried :-
Uninstalling all apps that skygo could look for (titanium, openvpn etc.)
Using a work profile (shelter and island)
Disabling oem unlocking
Disabling usb/adb debugging
Disabling developer options
Deleting all files and folders that have magisk, twrp or titanium in them.
Basically everything here https://www.didgeridoohan.com/magisk/MagiskHide#hn_Hiding_root_from_apps
So, I think it's basically no go for sky go at the moment. Happy to be corrected if someone has it working.
