Is it possible to port the old camera to the new Pie One UI - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is compatibility for the old camera app on the new One Ui? Or is it possible to port it now or in the future?
Two things make the camera a downgrade when switching to the new One UI, for me at least:
- You had a separate button for video and picture, so you were one touch away from taking either a video or a picture. I had a really nice setup where I could take a video with the volume buttons and open camera and take picture with 1 click of the Bigsby button. This proved really useful when i went horse back riding for the first time, or with gloves on when the screen is not responsive.
- More importantly: You had a dual shot mode where you could take pictures/video with both cameras at the same time. This was really useful when trying to fit more people in a picture, or even for me to be in there, and have a nice memory stored.
They also locked the Bigsby button so you can no longer disable it... again...

Search for the app on apkmirror and try installing it.

I agree with you. I would also like the previous functionality of having both the camera and video buttons on the same screen again.
As far as the Bixby button goes, you can use BxActions to disable and remap the button. It works pretty well.

I do use BxActions, but how do you prevent Bigsby from appearing when you press it? You used to have to disable it from the Bigsby app, and yo no longer have that option.

I disabled my single press function. I only have a long-press function for my flashlight. Bixby doesn't show up for me when I single-, double-, or long-press the button. Occasionally it'll show the icon at the top and it did open Bixby once, but I couldn't figure out under which circumstance that was and I couldn't replicate it again since. Bottom line, Bixby doesn't show up for me when I press the button.

[THINK TANK] Remap Power/Lock to Camera Functions & Remove Low Battery Limitations
Hi all, i've had a thread about this in general for a while, but i think I would get more attention to this matter here.
I may not be a dev, but I do believe this is very doable, especially because Ive read this in a thread posted by rhcp0112345 titled Debug Codes which proves that the power button can be remapped to do certain functions just like my old G1 could do:
*#*#7594#*#*
This one is my favorite one. This code can be used to change the "End Call / Power" button action in your phone. Be default, if you long press the button, it shows a screen asking you to select any option from Silent mode, Airplane mode and Power off.
You can change this action using this code. You can enable direct power off on this button so you don't need to waste your time in selecting the option.

I also remember devs adding support for a Reboot Option to the Power Off Menu, so I think if that is possible, then it should be possible to add a Camera option to that list, and when the Camera is open, rather than use the power button to lock the screen and capacitive buttons, we can allow it to take pictures, and if you long press it, it will show the usual Power Off Menu plus the Lock option.
Also I was wondering if it was possible to remove what I call the Low Battery Limiter which denies the user access to the Camera, Avatar, Video Player and Music apps.
Opinions? Ideas?

If I remember correctly, the key mapping is actually in the kernal, which means that someone who was cooking up a full blown ROM would directly have to go in and map the driver function to the kernal. I don't think this is impossible, but it may not happen for a while. I do agree though, this is a very good idea except for moving Screen Lock to the menu for holding the power button. I think something simple like double press or Power+Volume Up. If I ever find time to muck around in the kernal source, I'll give this a look

ah so its all in the kernel i see. Yeah your idea the double tap sounds good too! I appreciate your interest in the idea! Do you know how to disable the Low Battery Limiter? would that be in the kernel too?
While they might not be in the right place, I think remapping the volume keys for the camera just makes more sense.

maybe someone could make an apk along with the kernel to remap it to any button you want. i remember the g1 had a hack that allowed that possibility so im sure the vibrant can do it if someone had the will and know-how

Thats not quite what I think they are talking about. That will simply make the popup that says "battery full, please unplug" go away. The issue is when your battery is low, the phone will deny you going into certain applications, such as the video player or other things.
Any progress on the low battery limiter?

Then what would you do with the zoom in/out function that's currently mapped to the volume rocker?
I think the current "Lock Screen" function of the power button is useless, and would make way more sense as a physical button for the shutter.

I second this statement.
No offense to anyone, but using the volume buttons is a stupid idea!

so i tried contacting JAC about this through a Private Message a few days ago, he hasnt responded yet but he's been active on twitter lately, so maybe he doesnt check his PMs, i dont have a twitter so i was wondering if anyone that does could tweet this thread to him and ask if he would be interested in implementing it in his kernel?
remapping the volume keys isn't necessarily in the kernel. just install adw launcher or launcher pro and add the camera app to your dock. it's easier.
xREVOx, I think you misunderstood the OP. I believe he is suggesting the power button be remapped to the camera shutter, which I believe is an excellent idea. I would love to help, if I could. I know c++, but have never messed with the linux kernel or android rom dev so I doubt I would be of much use. Either way, I would lover to see it a part of CM 6.1 when that comes out

Like MinosDis said I was thinking of having an option to add Launch Camera to the power button menu, and once the camera app is launched the power button could be used as a physical shutter button.
Also I really wanna get rid of that low battery popup that prevents access to the music player video player and camera.
If anyone with a twitter echoes my sentiments perhaps they can retweet this thread to @wesgarner or @justanotherdev because I can't get ahold of them on here and I have no twitter.
I use mixzing, and it will play up until you phone powers off. Not quite a hack, but a viable workaround for now

Hey eugene thanks for your input and contribution I don't think anyone made any progress on this front. JAC told me it is rom AND kernel related if I wanted the battery limits removed and the camera button remapped so it's not that easy. I'm very glad and thankful that you handled the low battery limitations thank you so much!
Just in case anyone subscribed to this thread.
There's an app in the market called "SGS Tools". You can now use the power button as a shutter button, take pictures when battery is low, and pinch to zoom on the camera (it's a little sluggish). Thanks to Fr4gg0r for developing this.

Remap Keys During Camera

I am going to attempt to remap the outside keys for when the camera is being used to allow non-touchscreen controls as well. I don't know if anyone has tried or started work on this idea yet, but I will give it a go and post results and the update.zip on here once it is good to go.

Not to stir the thread off topic, but can i just say how moto seemed to finally get the camera right? I cant believe how fast it starts up. It still has some of the weird focus isssues, but switching between modes, taking pics.. ive ditched my purchased apps in favor of the default camera.
I agree. It definitely runs so much smoother than in previous renditions. I just want to have a method for taking a picture via non touchscreen. Miss the dedicated camera button. Will be working on this during the week and hopefully will have it done and up by the weekend.

what would you use? traditionally, the volume keys were the zoom in/out and the camera button took the pic. maybe something on the keyboard? have you tried the OK button?

The "ok" button does take pictures, but then you need to have the keyboard out. I'm going to attempt to remap the power button to take the picture (as most people wouldnt be turning off the screen while the camera is on) and keeping the volume buttons as the zoom in/out as it currently is.

THIS WOULD BE PERFECT!!! Let us know what you come up with.

This is already possible by default, if I understand your question correctly.
In the ICS build (at least .215, not sure about earlier versions) there is a "Volume Key Function" option in the stock camera settings. You can use this to set the volume keys to 'Capture' instead of 'Zoom'. As I never use digital zoom, this already works great for me!

In that case, never mind and good luck
On my ME863 I installed a 3rd party camera app just because of the "volume button = shutter" function, and it was nice to see there was no need for that on the Droid 4!

How do I take a screen shot of an open program?

so, I haven't rooted yet, and am trying to take screen shots of some open programs. I know you are supposed to either hold the power button and volume down together, but its impossible with my fat fingers to do that properly; I also saw that holding home and power is supposed to work, but that doesn't either.
Also, the quick memo program, which supposedly does that too, doesn't do it; when I invoke that, I just get a blank, yellow page to show up, not the open screen of the open program..
Am I missing something?
thanks!

I have big hands too. Try pushing the middle area between the Vol down and Power with one finger. Just a pretty quick push. Works for me your results may vary.

Camera app bug

It appears if you have burst mode turned on, there is no way to take a single picture with the half -> full press button sequence. It automatically categorizes it as a burst, even if you only take one. This is annoying because you can't scroll through all images in the gallery. Anyone else experience this?

Why is this in Themes & Apps ??
Because the camera app is an "app"

You aren't understanding. There is different behavior. Using the soft button, you can take a single shot with a rapid press. You can also rapid press the hard button and get a single shot. Once you use the hardware button with a half press, you get a single shot but in a burst sub folder no matter how fast you press the button. Bug

I'm not sure that's a bug, bro. You turn on burst mode, all photos save in burst folder. Sounds like they probably intended that, unless I'm missing something....

Suggest you please move this thread to "Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting"...
I don't think I can move threads. A mod is free to although you could argue either way for which forum this goes in.
The bug is undeniable. I didn't turn on "burst mode", I turned on "burst on long press" - HUGE difference. Behavior should be the same across different input methods. So pressing the soft button quickly focuses and shoots one normal shot in the gallery. Pressing the physical shutter quickly shoots one normal shot in the gallery. Pressing the physical shutter half way and then fully depressing shoots a single shot but "categorizes" it as a burst shot so even though there is only 1 picture, it shows the burst icon and has its own folder.
Understood your problem, same on my device. The thing is we only want a burst sequence when we press the shutter full for a longer time. If we press it full only once, it should make a normal photo. Thats what i would expect from this function.

bingo
Same for me. Have switched off the function. Shame as there doesn't seem to be another way to take a burst of photos. There's a "timeshift burst" photo app which is nice but it's not the same and only takes low res photos.

Back, Home and Recents buttons?

Hello,
after the sources for the Z2 Pro have been released and good Custom ROMs are possible, I would love to buy this beautiful device. I've read alot about this U-Touch thing, where you navigate only by using the Home Button... and I don't like it. So my question is: Does this phone also have the normal Back, Home and Recents hardware buttons?
Thanks!
Hi,
Yes, you can add on screen buttons in "Developer Options" menu. At least you can do it with z2 (non pro). I guess you will have this option too.
So there are no "real" hardware buttons to the left and the right of the home button?
On screen buttons are in developer options in both models, make sure you reboot to effect the changes.
Thanks for your answers. I know about the possiblity to show the On Screen Buttons, but that's not what I wanted to know.
I'm curious if the device also has dedicated hardware buttons (not on screen) for Back and Recents, or just the U-Touch button?
It only has 1 physical button on the front..
I'd love to see an app or even integration in a custom rom to be able to configure the behaviour of the front button. What are the chances this will become reality?
It already lets you configure what the button does. You can also preset actions to open specific apps.

But that is in the ZUI ROM right? I'd like to see this in a separate app or built into custom ROM so it can also be used outside ZUI.
Now that the sources are available someone who knows what he is doing should be able to pull this off.
Is there a way to make swipe left on the u-touch button act like a back button? Maybe there would be a way to have it open an scripted action that acts as back button?
Edit: Just figured out that short tap is back, so my problem is solved!
Thanks, this helped me out!
I'm looking for a phone with this same exact button. I'm always super stunned how retarded iphones are compared to my $200 phone.
