Note 8 Korean version problems - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello everyone,
My friend brought me a Galaxy Note 8 from Korea (SM-N950N) and I'm facing some issues using it in Brazil.
1) My carrier - VIVO - used to work with 4G conection in this very same SIM Card. However, I got only 3G with my Note 8.
Importante info: the seller had the phone carrier-unlocked before selling it. This phone was not new from the box. Someone had used with Korean carrier.
2) Is there a way to know if I'm using any different ROM from stock?
Should I root and flash any other ROM for local use in Brazil?
Any guidance is of great help!
Thank you very much.

You would have to check that your Service Provider uses the same LTE bands that is support on the N950N. As not all LTE bands are support for use on the N950N.

According to frequencycheck.com at this link the SM-N950N should support all the 4G bands. Did you make sure and enter the correct APN settings in Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names? Do you have LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) selected in Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks? You should check those settings first.

[Q] I9305 - Three UK (3) Ultrafast Edition Network Mode?

Hi does anyone know how to set the Phone to GSM Only on this phone?
The reason why I ask this is when I will roam abroad I don't want my S3 LTE to use the 3G networks.
However 3 UK being a 3G only network have disabled the GSM only option and only have: GSM/WCDMA (Auto) or WCDMA only.
Is there a special code or hack that I can use with this particular model?
Thanks.
You may have to use another ROM; in my i9305 ROM (locked to T-Mobile, bought SIM-free) I have the choice of "3G only" or "2G/3G/4G" as baseband selections. I can't explicitly choose '2G only'. There may be a third party app which you could grab to force baseband if you're happy to root your device, afraid I've not even looked yet (only had the phone a couple of weeks).
Hey! Try this code *#197328640# UMTS -> DEBUG SCREEN -> PHONE CONTROL -> NETWORK CONTROL -> BAND SELECTION -> GSM Band Preference -> GSM ALL
Hi guys, this lte stuff is fair confusing for me. Can't seem to find answers to the questions below. Would be grateful if you could advise.
The phone in question is an LTE enabled GS3, PAYG so it's unlocked and unbranded.
I want to know if I can use my current standard 3UK micro sim in an lte enabled GS3?
I don't expect to get superfast speeds but will the phone work just like a regular GS3 while using this sim?
Will I get superfast data on the lte enabled GS3 when 3UK eventually update the network?
***SOLVED***

[Q] VZW DE in France?

I'm going to France with my VZW DE, unlocked and rooted.
Can I buy a French sim card (do they have nano cards??) and it will just work?
Or do I need to do some APN magic?

You can get nano sim in France and it will work with Verizon. They'll either have original nano or they'll cut it for you. You won't have LTE though cause Verizon supports only 750MHz LTE. But that isn't big disadvantage as 3G is really fast and widely accessible.
APN is usualy set automatically, depending of chosen mobile provider. I assume that you want to use mobile data too, therefore I recommend either Lets Go Data Sim of Orange France if you can get along only with data plan or LeFrench Mobile packet with Transatel group Sim if you want to have full option (talking, sms, data). Lets Go Sim is available in Orange Boutiques throughout France, just ask for the 'Pass Prepaye Let's Go SIM'. You'll pay €10 (about $14) for 1GB lasts 7 days and you can get topup vouchers in the same shops. Manual setting - APN: orange, username: orange and password: orange. For Lefrench mobile you can find full instruction in English at: http://www.lefrenchmobile.com/en/data-bundles.html.
In order to save on calling to the USA you may want to set voip on your phone. You have broad specter of providers as Skype, maybe Hangouts or others which operates with preset SIP on your phone.

I thought I could find nano sims, after all Moto X is sold in France.
My phone is a Verizon Wireless CDMA phone, though it does include some UMTS bands:
850/900/1900/2100 . The LTE bands are 4/13, which I don't believe are used in Europe, as piskr said.
The real question is about the APN. Right now the APN is set for VZWINTERNET. If I insert an Orange sim card, will the phone automatically change to the Orange APN? If not, how do I add the Orange APN? piskr gave the Orange APN settings, but how do I add them ?
I now use CSipSimple and Zoiper ( iax works great over mobile ), so I'll get the Orange Pass Prepaye Let's Go SIM. $14-15 for 1gig over 7 days is a real bargain, especially if the 3G is fast enough for voip.
The only problem with a data only plan is the inability to text.
Thanks for all the help.

UMTS frequencies used in Europe are: 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz and they are perfect match with your phone so you are set. And don't worry, Europe put a lot into 3G development, you'll have mostly everywhere HSPA+ that means more than enough bandwith for voip. European LTE bands are with rare exceptions 3,20,3, therefore you won't have LTE but I'm certain that you won't miss it either. But remember: Orange Fr blocks voip so you may rather opt for another provider or enable VPN. You certainly can't have sms service with voip but on the other hand texting is cheap and if you can use voip calling you wouldn't depend much on sms.
Regarding manual APN settings there is no hassle with that. You can add or remove right away any APN you wish: go to settings - mobile networks - APN (and save it). I use 3 different as you can see from attached picture. In rare occasion that your provider blocks other APNs you'll have the chance to set it as soon as you change SIM. If it won't be set automatically.

Do you have the Verizon Wireless Developers Edition - XT1060? I 've got developer options on. My APN screen (Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Acces Point Names ) shows only the VZW APN. The Menu on the upper right has only one choice: Reset to default. If I choose that, I get 9 APN's - All VZW.
A Long Press on the VZW entry, allows editing.
I don't see any option to add an APN.

Just had a long talk with L2 Motorola support. There should be a add button ( a + enclosed in a circle ) on the top right of the APN screen. There isn't on my APN screen. The suggestion was that it was deleted with 4.4.2.
Sigh

It wasn't deleted. Possibility to add APN is SIM card dependent. Inserting the different SIM card will enable option to add APN. I'm on 4.4.2 and able to add as many APN's as I wish.

[Q] Lumia 625 - No 4G Issue

Hi, I have recently bought a Lumia 625. The problem is there is no option to select 4G in mobile settings. Only 2G and 3G are available. I check the spec of the phone using its IMEI number and it says the phone supports 4G.
I have updated into Windows 8.1 and Lumia Cyan. But still there is no 4G option to select.
Does anyone know any reasons for this matter?
Code:
Manufacture Name: RM-941_im_india_204
Mobile Operator: 000-IN
Since manufacture details are for the country India, could it be possible that 4G is disabled through software for India?
If so can I enable it through flashing another firmware?
If it is possible, what firmware should I use?

Service Mode to turn on/off band coverage to solve speed problem

This is not New
I want to know if anybody can help to post the Band coverage by screenshoot on their Note 8
I am just wondering by Turning on/off band preference on their service mode, it will resolve the speed problem on Data and coverage problem, As we know some people buy the hand set such Unlocked version . US carrier (TMo/Ver/ATT/Sprint) version ,International version , but they don't use the same carrier the note 8 is manufactured for.
Like mine My Note 8 is T Mobile version .
You can see by press => setting=>about phone=> Service provider SW ver. last line is TMB/TMB/TMB
By Checking Service Mode for Band Coverage by dialing *#2263# on dial pad you will see like mine below
With TMB/TMB/TMB , I found after press 2 that WCDMA Band preference==> some band not supported .
please stated what model is your Note 8 firmware while you do iit and "Service provider SW ver"
this is also will help us to make decision if changing carrier/Carrier switching by flashing the FW is necessary.

Question 5G/LTE Toggle not showing up in network mode configuration

I have s21 ultra unlocked from Samsung. I have transfered my existing 5G SIM into this new device and it got activated and everything is working OK. but when I go into settings...> connections ...>Mobile networks .....> connection mode , I have automatic or manual selection options. In either of these modes I am only seeing available service provider networks but not seeing an opting to select only LTE and not 5G. Samsung says it is verizon issue and verizon tells me its samsung problem. Any help out there is highly appreciated. Thanks
