Samsung Health blocked sensors in South Africa version - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi everybody,
I just bought a Note 9 (SM-N960F) from South Africa and noticed that on Samsung Health app it has blocked the Stress and SpO2 sensors due to legal reasons in that country. Contacted Samsung support and they told me it could be unblocked if I'm in a country where those sensors are allowed but the process is kind of bureaucratic. So my question is how about installing a ROM from a country where both sensors are allowed like Spain for example. Will that can solve my problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

This Article may help you: https://gs5.gadgethacks.com/how-to/...s-any-country-samsung-galaxy-devices-0159489/

Just flash an XFE ROM via Odin. you are probably on a XFA one, check your software version in settings I'm on XFE and all my sensors are working. The article in the previous post only works if your phone is rooted.
I have a XFA vodacom Note 9 which i flashed with XFE from Sammobile, used home csc in Odin to keep my data, and all sensors are working.

Thanks for the info and yes, I'm on a XFA CSC. I'm downloading an XFE XFE ROM from Sammobile. One more question, Do you downloaded version 8 or 9? I'm asking just because latest versions sometimes consumes more battery.
Thanks in advance

I'm on 9 and haven't noticed any adverse battery. If you flash 9 and don't like it toy can go back to 8, just means your will have to reset your device. When you flash XFE 9 over XFA 8 remember to select home csc so you can keep yr data.

Thanks Jostian,
Downloaded the XFE version from Sammobile but just noticed that after loading it via Odin my version is still XFA.
The stress sensor started working but I can't find the SpO2 option anywhere. Any clues?.
Thanks in advance for your help things are becoming better now. Just trying to find the SpO2 thing and why I'm still on XFA.

hi,
The Stress option is is not blocked in S. A.
It's working fine.
I'm on CSC XFV/XFV /XFV
See screenshot.
It might just be a service provider,
MTN (XFA) restriction ?
As for the SpO2 menu option, it is also available, but yes, I you cannot measure .
So it's not working on my device.
Good luck

I flashed one of the Europe csc (DBT or NEE etc.) files to upgrade to Pie and then updated with xfe. And all my sensors work fine. See pic attached

I posted the same question on the S8+ forum:

My Exynos S8+ SM-G955F doesn't offer this option for selection, only 2.4 GHz.
I suspect the 5 GHz option for hotspot is only available on the Snapdragon version...

Now let's see if also the international Exynos version has the band selection option.

I'm on the Korean Exynos N950N and I have it.
Actually both the posts were useful, so now I know that this option can be available both on Snapdragon and Exynos version.
It looks like that there is no limitation in the Exynos SOC itself, it's apparently a Samsung decision to show or hide this option in the regional firmwares.
Hi guys,
Just found this old thread while searching in Google for a similar question. I have the Note 8 too, Exynos version (SM-N950F) and, as seems by the previous post, Exynos also allows to broadcast the hotspot at 5.0 GHz, so it might be a firmware limitation.
Do you know if there is any specific ROM, CSC, tweak; anything that would give me that option to use the hotspot at 5.0 GHz? I have found this post by @phatWares mentioning a quite old tool by Wanam. Can anybody confirm this still would work? I ask because I'm fully on stock on my Note, so I'd like to have some assurance before tripping Know, flashing ROM, etc.
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.
I had the same question and did some research.
It seems there is a new EU directive that restricts the use of 5ghz frequencies for mobile hotspots and this is why we are running into this issue (has to do with interference with police radars and such).
Logically one way to circumvent this limitation is to change CSC to a country that does not have such limitation.
I am outside the EU and I have a EU phone with British firmware and CSC, I have yet to find a proper CSC to switch to.

Thanks for your reply aljazzair. I'm also outside of the EU and US, but I think my phone is (SM-N950F) is an international unlocked version; I don't know what that is supposed to comply to.
Are you rooted? Have you tried the tool that I've mentioned in my previous post from Wanam? It seems to be a CSC Editor that allows you to enabled the 5.0 GHz option with a checkbox.

Hi,
My phone is not rooted. Like you, I have a SM-N950F (european unlocked).
.
I did change the CSC on my phone successfully once, it was a couple of weeks ago.
.
The reason was that I was on a TUR CSC due to an OTA update whilst in Turkey with a Turkish SIM on a TIM phone which had XFE firmware.
.
I was annoyed by the resulting samsung software notifications in Turkish, which is a language I do not understand, so I wanted them gone.
.
My CSC is now BTU/BTU/TIM.
.
The procedure I used involves using odin to flash what is called a "combination rom".
The combination rom essentially replaces the stock rom with samsung software used by samsung support engineering staff for diagnosis and repair.
.
It is critical to only flash a combination ROM that is compatible with your bootloader version.
.
I had the DSG1 stock ROM with the latest bootloader when I flashed the combination ROM, so the version I used is:
.
COMBINATION_FA71_N950FXXU7ASG1_CL12991683_QB24738638_REV00_user_mid_noship.tar.md5
.
There is a seemingly cumbersome procedure to follow involving Odin, several factory resets and reflashing multiple times, and it worked flawlessly for me.
It is described here:
.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74324845&postcount=87
.
I would re-use this procedure again without hesitation.
.
But I have yet to find a CSC code that would allow 5ghz hotspot capabilities (so non-EU) whilst retaining Samsung Pay and avoiding software notifications in a language I do not understand
.
If you know of such a CSC code, pls share
Perhaps somebody that tried that Wanam application to edit the CSC could confirm? That might be worth rooting for

South African XFV firmware is German after flash with Odin

I downloaded the South African XFV (Vodafone) firmware and flashed it with Odin.
AP
BL
CP
CSC
After reboot the language is in German. Software shows VD2/VD2/XFV instead of XFV/XFV/XFV.
Does anyone know how I can fix this??
I want to use Samsung Pay but can't because my region is not correct.
Which firmware you have installed? Sounds like you have installed a branded Vodafone firmware which don't have your CSC included.
Don't be afraid to hit the "Thanks" button if someone helped you. It don't hurts

I used Samfirm and searched for the South African XFV firmware.
The only one that came up is the Vodafone XFV firmware. (My phone's country code is XFV)
The other two that's available for South Africa is XFE and XFA (if I remember correctly)
Will I be able to install one of the other South African firmwares on my XFV device?

So it was this CRG1 firmware version with OVF CSC (see screenshot)?
You could try to remove your SIM card and reboot 1 time. Then shutdown, put the card back in and boot again. Normally it should recognize the card and switch to the correct CSC View attachment 4567759

Hi there, first of all your thread is in the wrong sub-forum "development". It would be better placed in the "Q & A" section.
The firmware consisting of BL, AP, CP is the same for every country. It's the CSC that makes the difference. If you want XFV for Vodacom South Africa you must download the respective package. I usually use Sammobile. I personally am on DBT Germany which works 100% here in SA. If you are looking for VoLTE and WiFi calling forget it. According to Vodacom Cresta (in Joburg) the Note8 is not configured for these services which I find rather strange. But that's Vodacom anyway. Cheers LJ
That's not 100% correct. WiFi calling and VoLTE works for our Note 8. If it's not available by CSC, then it's a hidden feature which maybe can by enabled with apps like QuickShortcutMaker. Maybe VoLTE isn't supported by Vodafone in SA - that I don't know.

Of course, VoLTE & WiFi Calling works on the N8. I had it working on DBT when I was in Germany 4 weeks ago. But on Vodacom it just doesn't. It's a carrier specific problem. They assured me that both services have been activated. But that's Africa. You can never be sure. LJ

Quick question, do I need only UK CSC?
E.g. If I flash a BTU firmware on an ITV phone is it going to work, or given that it is a multi CSC it will just switch to ITV when I insert the sim?
Got this new beta and the best thing about it the keyboard which seems much better at auto correct now.

I use combination firmware and Realterm to change CSC. I successfully changed CSC to BTU (England). I flashed BTU firmware. Run phone and turn on Samsung members App. Registration to BETA program pop-up on me. But when I click it and click enrol to start firmware download I get error that my SIM card is not from correct region. Even when sim card was not in phone. Only solution is to buy Sim card from England operator which I cant in my country. So I was unsuccessfull. Hope someone who has ability to download firmware will get download link a share it here with us. Thanks you very much and sorry for my bad English.

Not at all mate, thanks for trying at least. Seems an OTA is the only way to get it without the samsung members method. Hopefully someone catches it soon, itching to update.
I think we will have to wait for the second beta, so that those who could not because they formatted, can do it there
Has anyone made use of this new chat feature on the Samsung stock message app? I click on it to enable but nothing seems to happen. I don't know if it's to do with some future Google rcs chat option? Do you guys know much.

For me (I'm on the Russian ROM (SER) and installed the beta unofficially, via "update.zip"). Now Google Play Store says device uncertified and Google Pay doesn't... well... pay.
Samsung Pay does though. I hate it though.

I use the device mainly because I need to maintain 2 different phone numbers, so the dual-sim helps. But using it on AT&T postpaid, the service sucks... NOT to hijack this thread but I can't seem to pull anything above 25MBPS or push above 2MBPS, NO matter where I am. My wife's iPhone is easily able to download at 100+MBPS. May be it is time to jump over to the dark side (?)

Convert Korean S10 to International

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S10 Exynos (SM-G973N), a Korean version. I am not in Korea and don't have Korean SIM so I can't use the phone (SIM card are not recognized).
I need some help to convert it to an international version, preferably an Android 11 version if possible. Current baseband is G973NKOU6FUF3.
Regards.
Hi, did you try to flash the firmware from your country/region? Just download the firmware with Frija if you are on Windows or samload if you are using Linux/Mac and flash with Odin. It's worth a try, cause the phone is basically the same of your country. Obviously since you are flashing a different region, you have to use CSC_OXM_XXXX and not the HOME_CSC_XXXXX. if it sounds confusing you can look at this topic here. Remember to use Smart Switch to backup all your files and apps.
Hi @Cobmaster, No I am actually worried about which firmware to download. The phone is originally from Korea. I don't want the Korean version, as it comes with apps and pre-loaded content in Korean. I would like a more global version. Can I use one from another country like the UK?
Thank you for your help. I used Frija to download the SKC and KOO firmwares.
Ps: For this model there are only Korean different Korean firmwares.
@koutei . I think you can safely download a UK or whatever you prefer, no problem at all.

It's weird. I need more info. Are you using a virtual machine? Which version of Windows? Are you using the stock cable?

No VM. Windows 10. No, I am not because it jiggles and disconnects the phone.
Hi, did you managed to accomplish this? I've searched for days and tried several methods to no avail. I'm starting to think that it is not achievable. If any expert would confirm this, I guess I will abandon the idea . Thanks in advance
I'm also searching did you succeed this convert?
I have G970N (s10e korea) want convert international G970F firmware.
Is it possible? Some people says yes some people said no.
Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S10 Exynos (SM-G973N), a Korean version. I am not in Korea and don't have Korean SIM so I can't use the phone (SIM card are not recognized).
I need some help to convert it to an international version, preferably an Android 11 version if possible. Current baseband is
G973NKSS7FUJ2
Could you help me
Thanks in advance

I found a reply from a user "billa" on another thread while searching for a way to flash a Global USA Note10+ from an AT&T carrier Note 10+ (Which was successfully done). Below was his/her reply. (I edited the first paragraph and included the modded Odin sourced from a YouTube video.)
You will need to use modded/patched Odin that has the model-ID and SHA hash check disabled, therefore allowing you to flash an unbranded "U1" firmware onto a branded "U" phone and vice versa.
As of now this works on most US Qualcom (QC) models, but an increasing number of international Exynos (EX) models now include a new RMM security which prevents this kind of cross-flashing unless you first disable the RMM, by flashing an RMM-Disabler package through TWRP.
Hope this helps!
