T-mobile Note 9 Pie Update Status - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

As the title suggests, I'm on the T-mobile Note 9. I was looking around online for a Pie update and found this page. I thought I'd share for those who hadn't seen it.
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-39346
Apparently, there are three different statuses: Development, Testing and Complete.
As of yesterday, the Note 9 was still in Development. Today, it is in the Testing mode. Lets hope we're getting pretty close to the release!
EDIT 3/2/2019
According to the above link, the device is still in TESTING. In this document, Android 9 Pie HAS BEEN released as of 3/1/2019, but only to a limited audience. Not sure if this is a test group or what's going on.
EDIT 3/3/2019
Hi everyone. Please keep this on topic. The reason I made this thread is to provide a reference (T-mobile users) on the status of the update. If you need assistance getting back on the OTA track, please create your own topic. Furthermore, this thread is meant for users on the T-mobile SM-N960U, "probably not" the SM-N960U1 , which I know nothing about. Thanks!
EDIT: 3/4/2019
According to the document I originally posted, the phase of the update has now changed to COMPLETE. Hopefully, I'll have it by the end of the week, but we shall see how long actual deployment takes. The document provided in the 3/2/2019 update of this thread does not detail any further updates past 3/1/2019.
I just checked for updates. A security level patch level February 1, 2019 is now downloading. Size 1867.41 MB. Versions: N960USQU1CSB3 / N960UOYN1CSB3.
EDIT: 3/5/2019
I'm now on Android Version 9 / N960USQU1CSB3.
First Impression: I do not like the fact that the time clock is moved to the left side. They should've kept it where it was. I'll be looking for a way to change it.

I'm hoping it comes out next week. Att already has it, so I dont know what's taking them soo long to release it for tmobile

My wife's S9+ got the update today from TMobile. I'm surprised that S9+ got it first before Note 9.

Today it shows its moved to testing, hoping to get it soon now.

Been like that all week.

My guess you won't see any updated to the Note 9 till long after the S10 is in stores. T-mobile is a crap company and this is how they do business. They will hold the update till we have had many weeks to look at the S10. T-mobile want you to spend the money on the upgrade. It's the 25th of February this update has been available on unlocked devices for nearly a month. AT&T has had it on their Note 9 for a few weeks already.

If any part of what you said was even remotely true, then they wouldn't have pushed the update to their S9/+. Note 9 owners aren't the target audience for the S10/+

Imo keep Oreo untill the next Pie update at least. It has bugs and if you just got the device there may be things you want but aren't on Pie.
Updates are fine but OS version changes I let others be the guinea pigs...

Just talked to a Tom rep, they stated they were sorry about removing the note o update and that they were in process of approving a new update that would release in March but that he was not sure. Smh

Assuming similar as the U1 update not dropping until March as well

This is depressing
However, I did update mine manually using the OTA that is posted. Could wait for T-Mobile.
Went fairly smooth. Couple minor issues, one with Google Home. Home would crashed every time I opened it. In the end, a factory reset brought everything in line.
I would recommend this upgrade to anyone and I would also recommend just side-loading it like I did.

Pie is ugly and slow

Ugly can be changed with a theme but then again ugly is subjective.
As far as speed .. it actually behaves faster on my 9 then Android 8.x did. Not sure what you are running on yours that would slow it down so much.

Been on Pie now for a week. Love it. Better battery life, faster in almost every aspect. Didn't wanna wait for TMO to push it so went the firmware science route.
Haven't experienced any issues that have been reported, quite the opposite for me. I personally prefer pie over Oreo, but that's just me. Now if only, they fix the Swift installer app to work with Pie (unrooted) now.

Saw this on Droid Life just now...
https://www.droid-life.com/2019/03/01/t-mobile-galaxy-note-9-receiving-pie-update/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DroidLife+%28Droid+Life%29

I'm on CSAA will it be able to OTA to the least tmobile on release?

I am currently on Tmobile with the version N960U1UEU1ARL1, would i have to wipe my device if I download the update manually? In any case, I can't seem to find my version on the Firmware Science form so do i just have to wait for the unlocked version of the update or am I eligible for TMOBILE's

I am confused, on the official T-Mobile update page, it lists N960U1UEU1CSB3 as the build number for the update. I thought N960U1UE specifies it's for the unlocked N960U1, where as carrier builds for the N960U are N960USQ?

[DISCUSSION]Android 4.4.3 Update in June?!

Well done, Samsung. They said in the beginning of June that the Update will be available within June. It is now the 19th. Of July and it's not here yet. They better be updating directly to 4.4.4 soon or at least a fast Android L update when it is available.. This is the only bad side of Android: for non-Nexus users it takes literally half a year to receive a MINOR update... Am I the only one that is angry about this problem?

But what's new. Samsung has newer been fast or early with updates.
They would have binned the 4.4.3 update and gone straight to 4.4.4 which makes sense really.
It shouldn't be too long now that we start seeing it roll out to the S5, but as always it's luck of the draw which region gets it first, & how long others have to wait until it reaches them which could be months.
No one really has a good track record when it comes to updates... sure sometimes some are better than others but if you want to go a non nexus device you have to deal with it
They are taking their time for sure... Sony, HTC already beat them to the punch (dunno about LG).
I only can remember the supposed document that didn't seem so real to be honest, when did Samsung publish an update schedule?
As said before in this thread, they most likely cancelled 4.4.3 to go all the way to 4.4.4 but even Sony has released that now.
i hope they will jump directly to android L

Reason for that being that both HTC & Sony software's isn't as bloated as Touchwiz is, tbh i think this generation of Touchwiz is actually worst performance wise & looks than the last gen on the Note 3 & S4.

Both Sony and HTC have a lot of code to add as well, but they are executing much better.
I suspect the delays are due to Samsung pushing a lot of devices at the same time and having limited engineering resources.
Most likely they are working on the Note 4 at the moment... and the 16 new devices they keep pushing every month.

Yes, you're the only one. Do you even know what .3 and .4 updates are? They're mostly security fixes that OEMs probably fixed in their builds before Google's own Nexus factory Android.

A; we weren't promised the update at all. there was a rumour started because of a heavily cropped image
B,the minor security fixs were possibly put in the NG update we all just got
C you start the thread with a promise of discussion but the op is typical OEM slamming that ive come to expect.
D there is no D because the first 3 were so good

Is Oreo update for Unlocked Note 8 Snapdragon Out?

Basically the title! I know the Snapdragon variant for Oreo is out and we can flash via Odin, but as far as I know all those builds get you bloatware and boot animations. I'm wondering if Oreo build is out for the unlocked version, one where you get the pure Samsung firmware without any carrier third parties.

Sad. Thank you
You figure the unlocked phones would be the first ones to get it since there is no extra crap in the ROM, but it's not the case.

It used to be that way, certainly in Europe. I expect that providers in USA have made deal with Sammy to wait with the FW updates for the unbranded/ unlocked until the providers have pushed out their updates, this to lure customers to buy phones and services from the big providers.

Oreo for the Snapdragon is not out yet. Just the Exynos. The Oreo builds for the Snapdragon all come from leaked OTA zips. It has not been officially released so no Oreo ODIN files exist for the N8.

Well I wouldn't say they don't exist at all. There's an xda thread on how to flash N8 to Oreo. Issue is the build is carrier build so you get bloatware and boot animations even on an unlocked phone. But if you meant the unlocked version, then yeah I don't think there's a build out yet.

I would say that. The thread for flashing Oreo involved using ODIN to flash a specific version of NOUGAT. Then, as I stated, you use a leaked OTA zip to update to Oreo.
So no, ODIN files for OREO are NOT available.

This is actually pretty upsetting. I went out of my way, avoiding all the carriers great buy one get one deals, to buy direct from Samsung thinking I was going to get priority updates. I really honestly would have bet money on getting Oreo before the carrier Note 8's did.
Naivety at its best I guess. Meanwhile I've been running Android P on my Pixel 2 XL for almost a month now. My Note 8 will never see Android P, at least not while I own it. Kinda sad.
I wouldn't expect Oreo until near when the Note 9 comes out (in the US)

Yeah, I agree. The sufferings of capitalism and putting money before costumers.
Anyhow, I don't get why S8 and S8+ are getting updates and Note 8 isn't. Like I haven't even heard of carriers actually releasing Note 8 OTA for Oreo yet. On the one hand, I want to be optimistic and think that's because they're implementing newer features in N8 version, or perhaps releasing Oreo 8.1. On the other, I think that's not true and they just wanna piss us off. N8 is the latest Note flagship, they gotta take care of it!

If you took a moment to search the forums before commenting that Samsung is not taking care of note8 users it would be awesome. Just because it's a flagship does not mean it will get updates first.
Note8 series is not the best selling popular Samsung phone. S series is the main bread and butter for Samsung.
Past couple of years I have been following Samsung and it's update cycle, it's always S series first and then N series.
Just have patience and again learn to use the search function sometimes. This discussion has happened multiple times and answer always is if you need immediate updates get Apple/pixel phone. If you can live with decent delayed updates, go for s series.
If you care for good hardware and build but ok update speed (updates will come for sure) note series helps .

I am just making a point that people need to search the forums before posting any comments. Also no one should feel entitled that since its a flagship or they paid big bucks, that the manufacturer should drop everything and cater to their needs. Samsung never promised faster updates than s series. It has always been like that.
None the less everyone is entitled to their opinion. You can read it or choose to ignore it and move on.
Got Oreo (OTA) to my unlocked Note 8 (SM-N950F) yesterday - so at least in Europe it is out and deliveries started.
I could be wrong but.. I think this at 1st was about a PHONE. I guess life is a slap in the face to some.. they express it to all..
I manually put it on my phone. Securty update is March 1st. Never had one problem. Runs great...

AT&T Pixel 4XL December update

Ok 2 questions around the AT&T Pixel 4 December update
1. Has anyone received the OTA yet?
2. Since the factory image for December is up on Google and labeled specific to AT&T, does this mean Google baked it entirely and AT&T will not touch it? Did AT&T send any carrier specific mods for Google to bake in the monthly patch? I know some carriers like to add their own pieces to updates but I was wondering why Google has an image labeled AT&T?

1. I haven't received it. Side loading it now.
2. It's a mistake on the downloads page. The one labeled AT&T only is meant for every other carrier except T-Mobile & Fi (version *.11), and Japan & Taiwan (version *.016.A1).

I'm assuming your phone is completely stock and its bootloader is locked?
If that's the case just sideload the OTA image for your phone using the stock recovery. Follow the instructions here:
https://developers.google.com/android/ota?hl=en
This process will not reset your device. It's just a manual way of updating your phone instead of waiting for Google to send it to you.
Curious as to who releases the update? Carriers or Google direct?

Images are developed and provided by Google monthly. Did you look at the URL? See the very straight forward instructions there. Those monthly images are also referred to as "rescue OTA's". Applying OTA images is really an essential skill for those with locked bootloaders. First step is to "install" the latest adb/fastboot binaries. This is essentially extracting a zip file into a folder, and reading the instructions right there on the same web page. I challenge you! You can do it. This is a walk in the park for you who presumably was partially dis-assembling HTC phones and jumping solder points to get S-On and root. If you need some pointers just PM me. I'm working a lot of hours but can help you at night.

Lol indeed and almost 15 years ago! Oh I am sure I can bro but not sure I want to after reading some of the issues with flashing the ota and uncertainty of which img to use. This post I was actually wondering who pushes the actual ota, Google or the carriers? If i had an unlocked bootloader I may actually root but asides kernal and minor mods, I'm not sure root is beneficial for me now. Used to oc the processor and push the devices but there's plenty under the hood nowadays lol.

Its always going to be slower coming from a carrier than it is from google.... So I really wouldn't expect updates any sooner than mid month of the release. Honestly, this is the fastest AT&T has EVER updated a device. I just got mine tonight (had to manually check for a system update)

I am on T-Mobile and bought an unlocked Pixel 4XL. They are dropping the ball with these updates. This is 2 months in a row for me. I don't mind them holding off if they fear it is going to break the devices but I shouldn't have to sideload an OTA every month when there are other devices, a few being Samsung devices, with the December security patch.

Android 13 is here

I went to the sammobile page every day like clockwork for all of November. Was doing the same for December and finally saw it.
It didn't pop up until TODAY, December 7th, 2022, despite being labeled November 29th, 2022.
But its here. Interest in this device seemed to evaporate with Android 11, so I have no idea if Android 12 or 13 can be rooted at all. Unless a clear answer to that, and if the old rooting technique will work, and if magisk can still be used or if some sort of alternative is necessary, guess I'll stick to 10.
But for the handful that still have the phone and don't root, Android 13 is finally here.
On this phone I would stay on 9 or 10. Android 13 is so far worse than 12 and many have rolled back to 11 from 12. CPU cycle sucking scoped storage is active from 11 up with more security garbage piled into 12, think 13 will be any better?
Or more of the same crap?
I'm not buying the Google hype, both Google and Samsung are on a 3 year losing streak of bad choices and products. Obviously you can upgrade at any time; let Mikey try it first
Can someone provide changelog please ?

I actually stayed on 10 with this phone, since I was unsure if I upgraded if the same root method would still work.
But I've been following the updates out of morbid curiosity + the longshot hope someone would be brave enough to try with a more current (11 and up) iteration of Android. Alas.

I have two N10+'s one running on 9, the newer on 10. Very unlikely either will ever be upgraded.
The Pie one seems to run best and is easier to work with. Current load is 3 yo now, still fast and stable; no way I'm messing with that.
Personally I wouldn't upgrade past 10 as you will lose more than you gain. Both 9 and 10 are secure unless you do stupid things.
Less downtime means more playtime...

I have the SM-781U AT&T locked model. The last OTA update it's received was June 2022. Up until that point it got them like clockwork.
Anyone know of common things that could be preventing OTA updates? I may have disabled something that is needed, though as far as I remember, I hadn't really been disabling stuff since the first month or so I had the phone, in 2021.
I tried doing a logcat when requesting an update check, but nothing jumped out at me. If anyone has anything to look for there, I will try it again!

hello colleague
we are almost the same, I have G781U Unlocked. (TMB)
but all the updates I have to do by pc odin.
I'm about to install the February patch but with the DSH system.
I already tried with USC - TMB
but the updates via ota never arrive.
I had looked into the Odin method, didn't find AT&T G781U firmware (only G78U1) and I don't want to lose anything like hotspot, wifi calling, or visual voicemail, so I haven't taken that plunge yet.

Luck
if someone can say why not, we get the update via ota.
If you can not fisn the firmware on Frija or samfirm, it does not exist for your csc and/or model. You can flash another csc using Odin without disabling Knox.

Has anyone figured this out yet? My AT&T S20 FE SM-781U hasn't received an update for 13, not to mention, my last security patch was October last year.
Is there some sort of base Android 13 that can be downloaded and manually installed? If there is and I can find out how to install it, I will do it haha.

Not that I could find (Also, sorry about the slow to reply thing haha) It's driving me insane because
my last update of anything, was in Oct 2022 when I got Oct security update.
Seems like everyone is getting this update around the globe. I can't afford to buy a newer phone, so
I really want this one to last as long as possible. But I am pushing it to have so much important and
sensitive information, on a phone that hasn't updated the security in 6 months haha.
I haven't installed a custom Rom in years, all the way back in something like, Galaxy 7+ (I am not 100%
certain on that) and it would destroy me to brick my phone, or lose very important information.
With that said though... Are there custom Android 13 Roms floating around now? I am not very good at
navigating these forums and finding correct info. I'm older and have Early Onset Alzheimer's, which at the
moment, isn't to big of an issue. But, it does make tasks like these much harder than they use to be.
But I am desperate and I know I have got to get this updated for my security and welfare. As I said, there's
no way I can't afford another phone, not even used or refurbished. So, at the moment, I sorta have
my hands tied. I am sure there's a thread somewhere with the answers, but after weeks, I cannot find
a thread, speaking on this situation.
If someone could at least point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for the reply above.

If this device has more updates, but not in your region, just flash a different csc. Do you see any update with a different csc. I have some devices on android 9, so it’s rlly no biggie if there is no more.
