GCam working on the MoTo G7 (Working, portrait, night sight, video,Pano) - Moto G7 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello Guys.
Today i got a Moto G7 US retail and i decide to look in my archives for a working GCAM version that work in the moto G7 ,this version work perfect except for the slow motion.

The slow mo works with me. go to more than definitions active it and reboot

Night sight works surprisingly well, thanks!

Is there a way to set this as the default camera app ( launching it from the lock screen) ?

Works significantly faster than GCam on my old Nokia 7 Plus, despite having a technically inferior processor. I was expecting it to be much laggier, not faster.

You can't set permission for the app maybe with root
And some mods from magisk
If have tried on this on my new g7 what a great phone
En the gcam is really great thanks guys for making it

I got the Gcam to launch with gestures by going into settings>system>gestures>jump to camera>on then choosing Gcam and then always use. This made Gcam the default when I double tap the power button from any screen as well as when I use the Moto wrist flip. Hope it works as well for you too!

Change slowmo to 120 fps and it will work, default is 240.

I took this with the Night Sight, works pretty well. To my eyes it was almost totally dark.

GCAM is the stock google camera app that comes with the Pixel phones. The one thing that it does really well is to continually take pictures in the background and then stitch them all together when you hit the shutter button. I've been using the GCAM app and it is frickin awesome. I also own a first gen Pixel XL, and pictures with the GCAM app on a Moto 7 power is comparable. The only thing the Pixel XL does better is faster HDR processing.
The GCAM app is far and away much better than the stock camera app.

GCam is Google Camera, it typically is in the app store but doesn't show for our device. Also the modded one has some of the Pixel exclusive features added in.

2 questions:
Moto Z Force...
1. Need to set as default for flip action and can't find it. Searched settings and Moto settings. No such control or flag seems to exist to change default app.
2. Everything seems to work except slow motion, even after setting frame rate to 120 and choosing either 4k or 1080p. App force closes on selection of slow mo.
Any suggestions?

4K Video
All seems to work except 4K video selection? Does not come up with a selection for 4K....

I can clear defaults from my regular camera app, and reset them to gcam (so the double twist or double tap of power button opens gcam). However when gcam is the default, the camera app switches from portrait to lens blur. Is there any real functional difference?

Does SmartBurst work with this? I have a toddler so it helps me to get good pictures of her. It worked a few times but it's like it doesn't work every time.

Has anyone managed to get this or another gcam working on the moto g7 from the lock screen or twist while locked. This gives the "to function properly camera needs your permission" error. Otherwise it seems to work perfectly if the phone is unlocked.

GCam is popular shortname for Android software
Google Camera, by Google LLC.
id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera
Yes, it's in the Google Play Store. However, it's currently only eligible for Google devices, like the Pixel smartphone family. The Store detects device models, or checks lists of devices under your current Google login account, & evaluates if an app is allowed/eligible, & only allows install if so.
(I'm researching it now to evaluate options & if can install on my devices/phones (I want those benefits!). I just recently found out developers have developed app mods/ports, & provided procedures & downloads, so I'm new to GCam for non-Google devices/phones.).
GCam is considered some of the best camera & photo processing software for Android. Most of the high(est?) quality of Google Pixel phone cameras, is because of the software more than the hardware. So the software can potentially benefit any phone camera, where the software can be installed & used (with full or partial functionality of the software, depending on device model & Android version). That is why people want it (perhaps request by feedback to Google to release for more/all Android devices?).
That is why people are listing Android app mods(modifications)/ports/adaptations here, that are made usable (full or partial functionality) on other devices.
These are from 3rd parties other than Google, so not approved & supported by Google. Trustworthiness of these apps can be questionable; this site tends to have more reliable & knowledgeable developers.
To install 3rd party app (app) on Android, at least have to enable in Android Settings to allow install (from sources other than Google Play Store).
Installing the modded/ported apps (app) can be easy/simple to difficult/complicated/technical, depending on the device model & Android version, & how much meets the app (apk) requirements & any extra updates/changes needed.
Some cases can install app directly; other cases may require other installs, even rooting or unlocking the bootloader on the phone or using remote ADB access from a computer (like desktop or laptop).
Appropriate online articles will usually include requirements or procedures.
GCam usually requires a minimum Android version (recent Google version claims needs Android Pie), because requires at least Google Camera 2 API software library/service for Android (which seems included with Android HAL3). Which may be installable on Android version that doesn't have it; some developers have procedures or download apps to install.
To research availability for a device/phone model, search about an app (GCam, or Google Camera), include the device model, & Android; optional terms, install or apk.

Yeah yeah, but it slows the phone DOWN TO A CRAWL, and is therefore USELESS. The photo preview is stuttering too, FORGET it.

Does this also work with the G7 Power?

Photosphere missing in default camera app.

I have a new motor x4 and while using the camera app cannot find the photosphere option anywhere. This is a Google phone so I cannot understand why such an important option is missing. Maybe I just don't know how to find it?

have you checked panorama mode? My Fi X4 has it.
It's missing in the default camera app but you can still make photoshperes with the Google Streetview App.

It's not a Google phone, nor is the camera app included from Google. You could port the modded GCam over to your device for better image and video quality, but I don't know what to tell you of the lack of a photosphere. If you mean the "tap anywhere to capture" feature, then that can be disabled in the camera's settings.
I also miss the photosphere function. Or, on other words, I do miss the official support from Google to Port the Google camera app to more devices.
Latest GCam has been modded to work with other devices under Android Nougat.
I am using that to make photosphere, but I can not import photospheres to G. cardboard viewer.
Moto X4 has a version of photosphere, more like a photocylnder
I just activated my Android One X4 last night, switch from Moto X2 and discovered this morning no obvious photosphere. very sad.
Turns out the Moto camera app (which updated last night) used panorama mode to replicate official sphere. If you take panorama with wide angle it captures a full 360 degrees. These images are then available for cardboard and other sphere viewing modes.
Sadly, or I haven't tried enough, it does not do up and down. Image is blurred above and below, which is a bit disappointing, but understandable.
My photosphere from Machu Picchu would have been lacking without seeing down into valleys below and beautiful sky above. My sphere of last year's eclipse from a cliff overlooking a lake in Wyoming would have been dull without eclipse in sky and terrain/lake below.
But I can guess 90% of spheres have sidewalk/grass below and sun glare above so ...
I could just explore app more and see if it can do it with some settings tweek.

Camera2 API on Moto G5S Plus

Has anyone tried enabling the Camera2 API on this device? Just found out that g5s plus doesn't have camera2 api, which pretty much sucks since this phone is able to use manual mode. I haven't tried it yet because my device isn't rooted and I don't have stock firmware (XT1805). For those who want to try, just make sure you are rooted and have a build.prop editor then add this line persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1. Give your feedback if it works.
Mine came with full Camera2 support out of the box. XT1806, US model.

I didn't had it but using custom ROM with beans gapps makes Google camera works partially on XT 1804 it didn't had API2 by default on stock ROM duh it sux that XT1806 got API2 enabled by default and other models doesn't

Kinda unfair of what Moto did.
When I took a test from Camera2 Probe app, it returned this result. I don't know if this means that my phone has Camera2 enabled, all I know is it's supposed to be "Full" instead of "Level 3"

No level 3 means the best it gives full and plus access to Camera 2 API but the problem is you can't find single application that supports this level of access through system library SD 625 got hexagon 500 too so basically if someone spend enough time on Google camera than he/she might be able to successfully port fully supported Google camera with slow mo upto 120 fps , RAW support and HDR+ too not sure about ZSL
And I saw all Moto g5s plus models supports camera2 but it's not enabled for some models while some have it enabled outta box

Wow, I have so much to learn. So that means that our only hope in taking better pictures is for moto to optimize the camera software? It's been a while since the last update of Camera Tuner, Moto Camera 2 was recently updated though.

Thanks for posting that screen grab of Camera2 Probe app! I was going to open a thread asking about the Camera2 API support level of the G5S Plus when I came across this. I'm interested in pro video recording apps and an app like "Filmic Pro" needs the device to have either "Full" or "Level 3" support, otherwise you can't even install the app. From what I learned about the G5 Plus it only had "Legacy" support level (the worst) which was very unfortunate but judging from your screen shot of the G5S Plus, Motorola/Lenovo finally upped their game!
I think if in this level 3 is possible to increase more lens aperture.
Currently our G5S Plus have 3,2 secs, no more.
In G5 Plus, other dev put 30 secs with magisk module, take wonderful night pics.

LEAKED APK/No Root-Nokia Camera from 7/8 Chinese FW w/Pro Mode, PIP, Tele/Wide, Etc.

I am not the original source of this content. I found the leak described here on XDA:
https://www.xda-developers.com/download-nokia-camera-pro-camera-nokia-7/
A similar article was posted on Android Police:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/04/10/nokia-camera-pro-camera-mode-available-try-apk-download/
There is a slightly newer variant of the leaked APK (8.0260.50 vs 8.0200.20) as well which reorganizes some controls, but it would appear we lost the option to switch between wide angle in this latest apk. Will have to play with them some more. I have uploaded/mirrored both applicable versions to MediaFire:
8.0200.20

8.0260.50

My device is an LG V30 - VS996 (Verizon Wireless) running the latest and only Oreo 8.0 fw update. I'm assuming if I was successful in not only actually installing the apk, but all of the following also amazingly worked on a VZW device then I believe it's pretty safe to say it will most definitely do the same for all lol.
I couldn't find a function in this new app that didn't work with my device except for one. I was able to utilize the Wide Angle/Telephoto Angle lens toggle although it was backwards lol, Picture in Picture and Dual Screen camera functions are unique, perhaps useful for bloggers/vloggers?, HDR functions, all the different shooting modes to include the new (reintroduced) Pro Mode. I could not get the app to switch storage to ext sd but that was the only issue I had. Going to play around with shooting a few pics today. If anyone checks this out, enjoy!
Thanks for the share but any chance did you get any additional manual controls like shutter speed?
Sent from my LG V30 using XDA Labs
I have been able to access manual mode using the .20 version, but have not been able to access or even see pro mode yet. Apparently even the Nokia 8 can't see pro mode, just the 7. Been playing around with the APK to look for some sort of system check that could be altered. I've been wanting to learn to patch device/OEM specific apps, a la Arnova/Cstark Google cam mods. Gonna try to play with this as a first project.
In the meantime check out this OnePlus 5T Camera + Google HDR+ hybrid someone over at the XDA OP5T forums developed. Obviously could only extract and install the actual camera app but surprisingly pro mode etc works. Swipe up on "photo" to select pro mode. I like the layout and placing of the histogram/settings.

how's the photo output? Do you find it to be better then the stock camera?

camera app version

what camera version is users on pie have, my camera shows version 86.9.1130.21 but the interesting thing is when I hold the app icon and go into app options then app info advanced then scroll down to store and tap on it it shows device not compatible with this version, but even more strange is if I go to google play on my pc to look at camera apps it tells me I have version
Current Version
91.9.1133.80 installed

Don't bother with the stock camera app, it's rubbish. Install a modded Pixel camera app, much better for photos and videos, though some modes like slow motion sometimes bug out.

Saw your website and sorry, low light photos are rubbish. In good light even a low range phone can take good photos these days.
Nokia 8 is a flagship, with decent camera, unfortunately ruined by bad software. We even got a second camera to enhance low light performance, but it's still crap compared to better software using single sensor.
Just go ahead and get a GCam with working Night Sight mode, you'll see what I'm talking about with your own eyes.
The original camera of the Nokia 8 was praised (for photos taken in ideal light circumstances) and criticised (for photos taken in low light circumstances). That's why a completely new camera app was released on May 31st 2018, which got a major update in early September 2018. This camera app added an amount of Pro possibilties and - more important for everyday users - a much improved HDR to take better pictures in low light conditions.
The official manual for the camera, however, is not only very basic but only covers the original camera app. On the net there are almost no sites that reviewed this new (Pro) camera app or gave tips and tricks except for one by nokiapoweruser dot com.
I have tried to write my own manual (for taking photographs) based on numerous tips and tricks found in different forums. The manual is written in English - A Google Translate widget can be used on the site.
I hope this guide may be of some use to some of you. If anyone wants to share other tips, feel free to write them down here. Please don't start bashing the stock camera and praising gcam - I have a gcam-app myself, one of the newest, 6.1.021.220943556. A link to a similar manual as mine for gcam would be appreciated, though.

Question Anyone found any 3rd party camera apps working fully?

I've tried a whole bunch of camera apps and so far the stock app is the only one that seems to be able to access 60fps recording. Every camera2 probe app I've tried reports 30fps as the max reported speed the device can use which makes me think Oppo have locked out any other apps from accessing it.
Another possibility I'm wondering is if it's not actually true 60fps at all - and it's actually using frame interpolation at 30fps to create the 60fps - although it does seem more natural playing back the recordings and doesn't seem to have the slightly "unreal" look that interpolation usually gives.
There also seems to be no way to select any other camera besides one of the main cameras on the back and the selfie camera on the front when using 3rd party apps.
It just seems a bit of a f-you to have them tout the camera setup as a main selling point of the device while at the same time locking out other apps from using basic recording features like 60fps and making no mention of it. 3rd party apps also exist to provide additional tweaks and features that the stock one lacks and I was disappointed to find Filmic Pro and Open Camera can't access 60fps and has trouble with the shutter speed to stop the zebra stripes/banding in some lighting scenarios.
Have you tried porting Google camera? I just downloaded a modded port and can record at 4k 60fps. Looks Pretty good also.

Hey any chance of a link to the one you are using?
I have tried a few different apks and the only one that would actually install (or open) is the Camera PX v.8.1.008.341125824.
It suffers from zebra striping indoors and outdoors, pressing on "slo-mo" force closes the app, captures of both pics and video are fairly noisy or grainy, 4k mode force closes as soon as I switch the option and it doesn't have an option I can see to choose framerate.
Definitely would like to try a fully working one.

I used this one, although a bit of searching around and I found a couple of others I will try as well.
