How to unlock with fingerprint scanner from standby - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knows if the phone is in standby and the screen is off can you just touch the finger print scanner to turn on and unlock, or do you have to double tap and or hit the power button first? ! Also, if the AOD is on can you just touch the scanner to unlock? I figure AOD should let you and lift to wake would work. Just not sure if the screen is off if you need to go through an extra step to get the scanner to work, as I don't have my unit yet and can't test it all. Thx!

screen off, yes you can just touch it and it will unlock. no need to wake the screen.

Awesome! Thank God. As I had seen videos on YouTube that showed people hitting the power button first to initiate the screen on then touch the scanner and I was aggravated if that was the case lol :highfive:

Yeah I think they're just trying to fully demo. It works screen off, AOD mode, screen on... whichever way you want it. Since its not optical it doesn't need to light the screen

What are you TD2 users doing about accidental touches?

Just curious...in the TD1, I used S2U2 to avoid accidental touches to the screen but as the TD2 already has the side to answer/end .. what do you use now?
I'm having a few issues I did when I got the first diamond where if someone calls, or you call out via bluetooth, the phone screen turns on
Usually end up hanging up on someone when I call them because the screen touches the pouch/pocket etc
I think there are a few apps to disable screen apart from hard keys etc - just curious what the majority use

Is there a tweak for this in ACT? With my t pro when a call goes thru the screen goes dark almost immediatly, so I have the opposite prob as I need to use the kp to enter numbers sometimes. I could see where using bt it could be an issue tho.
I was wondering if the D2 came with a proximity or light sensor to disable/turn off the screen while it is against your face. I hate my Elfin.... I'm always pressing things with my face and getting into all kinds of menus.
My brothers Behold has sensors that shut the screen off. As of recently I have been pressing the power button to turn off the screen after I answer. Can't wait till mine ships on the 11th.

I asked the same question in another thread, and would be very curious about the answer, especially since gsmarena.com does not mention it as a feature, in comparison to the D1.
the iPhone has this feature...and I really can't imagine the D2 to do not have it. I hope I won't be surprised negatively.
i presume it does
Bearing in mind it automatically dims the backlight, and increases it. It must have one somewhere!.

I sure hope. I read that the Touch Pro2 has it so I'm hoping that the TD2 does also. If not that would be a shame. Good thing I'm getting used to pressing the power button right after I answer.
The D2 does come with a proximity light that dims the screen. If you look at the manual it's listed in the diagram specs page as well.

that sounds really great! but does it mean that it's inactivated too? dimming is indeed good, especially in the dark not to have a glowing ear - but i was wondering if, with the dimming, comes the inactivation of the screen too, in order to avoid accidental pressing of buttons with the ear/face.

Is there a Wake up on Touch Screen

Looking for a app that will wake/turn on screen when on sleep mode with a simple touch of the screen.
While Asleep>>>Touch Screen>>>Slide to Unlock
instead of
While Asleep>>>Back/Home or Menu Button>>>>Back/Home or Menu Button to Unlock
Anyone want this? or am I being picky?

Thanks Johnny,
I know of Lock 2.0 BUT it does NOT wake the screen by a simple touch of the screen.
I am using Hero and would like to keep the slide down lock it comes with.
What I would like is a app that will simply turn the screen on with a touch of the screen so I can then slide down to unlock.

isn't that kind of the point of the screen being off? i turn it off so that i'm not hitting "buttons" in my pocket like i did with other phones

Yes I understand that, but have you noticed that the screen ONLY responds to the HUMAN touch. You can NOT use a stylus or anything other than your finger/skin. So having it in your pocket with say keys or what not will not activate the screen.
don't think thats possible,
if it did, it would BE A HUGE BATTERY DRAINER.
good luck finding one =) , i think your over your mind with this app lol.

Really... I dont see it that way, but then again im not a app developer
I dont see the difference in having a app that will replace the need to hit a button(call, menu, home or back) with touching the screen.
I've had my phone in my pocket with the screen accidently on and have had all kinds of buttons pressed from inside my pocket, so I personally wouldn't have a use for that app. But if it works for you, I hope someone makes it for you.
The difference is you'd have to poll the touchscreen constantly for any input, where as the buttons don't us any power until they're pressed and the circuit is completed.
I'm not an app developer either. I'm also not retarded. Just because you don't know the inner workings of an operating system doesn't mean that you're allowed to ignore physics and common sense.

altho it only responds to human touch, it does detect touch through thin clothing, so if you put it in your pocket, it will still press the screen.
The system is set to stop polling the screen once its off. The system will not respond to touch while it is off. The support for this would have to be built into a ROM I believe

Pressing Home Button with my cheek while calling!

Hey guys, i've got the problem that i accidently hit the 4 buttons (Return/Settings/Home/Search) of the Nexus One on the bottom everytime i call someone. This is really getting on my nerves, isnt there any way i can disable those buttons while calling someone? That would be awesome.
Thanks
Turn the screen off, Bluetooth device, wear a facemask that is capacitive unfriendly, decapitation.
(listed in order of difficulty).
Maaan, isnt there a easy way around it?
The phone should turn them off itself via the proximity sensor when you hold it to your face anyway?

Fingerprint scanner too fast!!

I'm finding it quite difficult to turn on the screen of my XZ1C without unlocking the phone...
Sometimes I just want to look at the lock screen without the phone unlocking, but the fingerprint scanner reacts so quickly that the lock screen (along with any notifications) is gone before I've even read the time!!
Is there a way to set a delay (probably not) or set another button (vol? camera?) to wake up the screen without unlocking the phone? I'd rather not have to disable the fingerprint scanner, and I never had this issue with my Z5C.
Seriously?
People complaining about the fp-scanner being too fast nowadays?
As for solutions, you could always use a finger where you haven't stored the print.
Or use your fingernail to press the button.

That's what I'm doing - it's a bit awkward! On the Z5C there was just enough time to remove your finger before the phone unlocked so you could have a quick glance at the screen. It must use more battery to fully wake up the phone everytime the power button is pressed?
I guess "tap to wake" would have been another solution to my (admittedly small) problem.
Oh, come on now. Fast fingerprint scanner is a good thing. There shouldn't be such thing as too fast. I would simply "reserve" my middle fingers for checking the lock screen.
Even if I use the "wrong" finger, the lockscreen bounces to the left because it's tried reading the fingerprint which is also annoying when all I want to do is check the time and for any notifications!
a novel approach i just set up: when scanning your thumb, only scan the pad and not the tip. then you can use the pad to unlock and the tip to check the lock screen.
(doesn't fix the problem of the bounce tho)
Use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup
Just wave your hand over the proximity sensor and the screen will turn on but won't unlock the phone if you have a lock.
Don't enable the lock screen functionality though, it doesn't support fingerprint unlock.
Lol why don't u just use a another finger?

look on the Play Store for Power Button to Volume Button by TeliApp, the app is old but still works and will allow you to use the volume down button as a second screen on button. it reverts back to being a normal volume down button once the screen is on. no root required. (I would post a link but XDA won't let me because I'm a new user)

P10 how disable wake-up by home button

How to disable the home button when the screen is locked? The screen now activates when you touch the home button (finger reader) - later phone can be unlock by PIN or finger, but how to disable screen wake up by this butto?. I would like to block this possibility so that the screen wakes up only by pressing the on / off button.
Your P10 does this?
I tried it on my P10 a second ago. My phone only vibrates when I tap the homebutton with a finger or part of my skin which isn't getting recognized by the phone. But the screen stays of.
Which version are you on? I'm on VTR-L29C432B162
i have VTR-L29C432B151, and a wanne disable it, because it is very annoying.
Dude, you really don't understand how fingerprint scanner with its features works...
Workaround: just don't tap on that area

When you deactivate the fingerprint reader to unlock your device(settings/fingerprint/screen unlock), then when you tap on the reader, when the device is locked, the screen turns on.
I personally use fingerprint to unlock my device, but have another complain and that is, when i want to check my lock screen for missed calls/recieved messages i have to take the device to my hand and push the on/off button.
would be great to have double tap to wake function.

You misunderstand. I'm having this same grievance as it's so easy to knock the scanner when moving the phone that the next movement then swipes to unlock it and the next thing you know you're opening apps and tapping stuff.
I don't give two hoots about fingerprint scanners as they are inherently insecure so I will never use mine. I'd like the ability to disable it completely so it doesn't even act as a button.

You're using a password that you carry on your person at all times, is always visible, and can't be changed. If someone steals your phone they just need to grab your hand and put it on the reader to have full access.

Do you really think that someone would steal your phone and your hand just to unlock your device? Ok maybe if you are a bilionaire or presdent of the united states...
The same i can say about unlock pins or gestures ..they need just to put you under drugs and you will tell them the code.
Same as with iris scanner, they just need your phone and your eye .
Too paranoic in my opinion. There is way higher probability that you would die in car accident or airplane accident than someone stelas your phone and your hand . 99% of stolen phones are stolen beacuse of value of the device, not because someone would spend hours to get into your device.
But anyway it is your opinion ...

Indeed.
So, getting back on track, does anyone know a way to disable the fingerprint reader in its entirety? I suspect this may only be possible with a custom-ROM or at the very least root access.
Besides it makes no sense, I think there is no oficial way to completly deactivate the fingerprint reader.
