Do we know when the 128GB or if Samsung would grace the rest of the world; the 256GB option? Im surprised that no outlet has records for the 128GB or is it coming after launch since I only see 64GB versions available for preorder 'globally'.
I've been trying to find a 128gb version as well.... But no luck.
So right now im holding out ordering and waiting to see if the 128gb is releasing soon some where in the world.
North America never gets anything but the lower option - 64gb. Which is enough for now especially adding in the 256gb micro SD. That being said, I personally would love to have 128gb option and would pay $100 more for the extra storage. Just like I would also pay $100 for a BL unlocked (Dev version) of the Note 8. Don't think they have offered a Dev version of the Note since the Note 4, of which I bought the Dev version of that phone.
The versions with more storage, more ram, etc are usually very rare and only release in the asian markets. Not sure why they do that as there would be buyers elsewhere in the world. Head scratching.
Yeah Im in the USA however I couldnt care less where the device is coming from.. I preordered a 64x from clove.. but like you wanted the 128 at least (which is in my s6e...) so im taken aback how the internal storage options are still paltry. Yes the card.. but its not UFS2.1 speed so i dunno what gives.

I doubt a 128 much less a 256 version will appear—it's a classic Samsung tune, with every model since Note 2 they've been promising a “Luxury” of whatever version of the same model, always with double the storage.
I've waited for a couple of those before—they've never materialized…

I am sure if they exist they would be very expensive
not a peep about then since last summer either, so it's surprising to find that they've included the reader.. some expectation then of release. but.. bixby, so who really knows.

With 200 gb sd card (180 gb actual space) + 64 gb storage (52 gb actual space) =
232 GB Of total storage.
Which is just as much as 256 gb samsung phone.
Cause 256 gb samsung phones have 235 storage due to software.

I heard bad things about lexar despite its read and write speed being really high. I heard it gets corrupted easily for some customers no thing solid thought...
But who knows..
I still have the evo 256gb that I got free with the note 7. Works like a champ. I also tried to find this ufs card but no luck.

I am buying 256 gb one then hope it doesnot run out.
Its price is really low and its fast sd card.
Apparently a 128gb version is expected to be launched in India. But i haven't been able to confirm that....
Tho a lot of sites selling phones with india as target audience is listing the 128gb version
In mexico the major carrier telcel only offers the 128 gb option
As the title suggests, I'm wondering if real world performance will be impacted by the RAM difference. I don't need the storage (512gb... Wow!) because I have a huge micro SD card anyway. But is it worth the price to upgrade the ram RAM? I'm thinking probably not. What do you all think?

You're not just paying for 2GB of extra ram, you're also paying for 384GB of extra storage space. From what I've heard., the USA version doesn't even come with 8GB of RAM (yet), so you'll just be paying the extra for the higher capacity storage.

No, real world performance will not be impacted by the 2 GB extra RAM. 8 GB of RAM would come in handy only if you are running so many intensive applications with some game playing side by side which is unlikely. That Extra RAM is kinda future proofing but it's a "distant" one, I would say. That nand flash storage speed is significantly higher than an SD card, but if 128 gigs internal is enough for you, it's not worth making that extra big hole in your pockets imo.

Though it's shown with an asterisk, it's clearly mentioned in the "Performance" section of Note 9 that,
6 GB/128 GB only.
8 GB/512 GB only.
indicating if you are buying the 512 GB storage model then it has to be the 8 GB RAM variant.

What are you talking about the US version doesn't come with the 8 gig of RAM? Did you watch the unpacking event which was US base?
US carriers already have the 8 gig of RAM version priced out

Agreed man. The 512GB storage is way overkill. Wish I could get the 8GB RAM with the lesser storage. I just cant justify the extra 250$ for an extra 2GB of RAM. (Yeah, I know you get the extra storage too, but I have no need for that.) Sigh. Likely, I will only keep this for 1 year anyways, so I don't worry about "future-proofing".
My thought is on all the speed tests, the 8GB version will be faster, but in real world performance, it most likely will not matter at all. Maybe in Dex mode, if you are using it as a PC? But otherwise, I doubt anyone would notice much of a performance difference.

This depends on how much of the drive you are filling up. Not really overall drive size. At least not noticeably so.

Yes usually the way more storage is added is by adding more storage chips inside, and they are usually arranged in parallel. So this opens up more read/write channels for the system to use simultaneously. So there should be a real world performance gain there.

If the improvements that 6gb had over 4gb are anything to go by, I'd say it's worth it.
I'm hoping Linux on Galaxy/Dex arrives soon, perhaps that is the reasoning behind it, especially for things like android studio.
My question is, will battery life be impacted? Meaning does more RAM result in more battery consumption? I doubt anyone really needs 8GB of RAM, but like me, I like to have the top of the line specs, but if this will impact battery performance I may I just go with the 6GB version.

For the same type of RAM, more RAM consumes more power in comparison to less RAM of the same type.
But, more RAM variant of the phone takes overall less power than a lesser RAM variant of the same phone if the user is quite a multitasker as more RAM helps in multitasking by keeping more apps & tasks opened giving less stress to the CPU as it doesn't have to work on re-opening them.
So, if you are quite a heavy multitasker, go with 8 GB RAM variant (as the CPU would get less stressed by not being used for reopening apps/tasks in case of RAM being full and thus saving power), but if you are not, go with 6 GB RAM variant to save power.

I'm not so sure that will matter when it comes to multitasking. Android has a default of the amount of things that can be stored in RAM at the same time. It's also time based, meaning that after x amount of time, that active data is not stored anymore. At least that's how it ran last time I app developed for myself.
Now if Samsung engineered their way around that with the Note 9, that would be fantastic. The other issue or obstacle is that apps would need to actually support that feature. Some of them currently don't support backgrounding over an extended period of time, but I do believe the usual memory and data hog suspects do. Facebook, Snapchat, etc.
Ya know, I just realized it's been almost two years since I developed on Android. Wow! Take what I said up there with a giant Grand Canyon grain of salt.
There will be a slight performance boost in Antutu or other benchmark apps, u can not feel it.
I have the 8gb 512 model. And if I go to ram settings it says I only have 4.8 ram left over. It's brand new. No new apps or games. So my guess is if you have the 6gb version. You will probably only have like 3 or less to work with. I'm confused on why this is. Can someone enlighten me please?
As the title states does anyone have both versions and can say it's justifiable to pay the extra 300? I don't car for the space but the extra 2 gigs of RAM could be nice. Please advise.

Are you going to be using more than 24 apps simultaneously? Because the Note8 could hold about that many in memory with 6GB of RAM.
Are you going to keep it for 2 years or more? If so, I suggest the 8GB for future-proofing. If not, 6GB makes more sense.
Just my two cents.
Since I heard this could be the last Note, I went with the 512/8. I may keep it a long time if they stop making the Note line. I use the stylus everyday at my job and I don't want to give that up anytime soon.

I went with the 512gb because I can... No other reason. I will ditch it when the Note 10 comes out or the F.
The best use of the RAM would be for Dex, which I don't use. 128GB plus my 256GB SD card = more storage than I will ever come close to using. I could have easily afforded the 512, but I don't need a terabyte phone and I never came close to filling my Note 8 so it was a no brainer to me.
It depend on your need: heavy multitasking is your priority, for working and 300$ not too much with you then go 512GB

If you're speaking of modding you SD Card to work around the hybrid/SIM dilemma,Samsung recently pushed an update to the S9/S9+ that prevents that from working.
My guess this is in effect for the Note 9 out of the box.

I myself just found out days ago, assuming it'd work, since I used one of those slim SIM adapters on my dual SIM Honor View 10.

I'm willing to bet the same apps come preinstalled on the 512 so either could answer the question and you could just apply the math to the other one.
I got the 128 because wife wouldn't let me.
I got my Note 9 on pre-order.
The promotion Samsung ran here in Oz was if you pre-ordered the Note 9 you got the 512gb for the price of the 128gb...
Pretty much a no-brainer for me...

By quick glancing it looks like only difference is amount of memory or is there something else? Device will be used for photo and social apps only. No gaming of any kind.

Some 128GB models only have 6GB RAM. All 256/512GB models have 8GB RAM.

Didn't know they made 8gb / 128gb variants. As far as it's listed here, there's only 6/128 , 8/256 & 8/512
As for the difference, honestly from 6- 8 there will be no noticeable difference during regular usage. It's not like Emui allows all the apps to keep running in the background. Power management is quite aggresive and probably will need to remove powergenie to fully utilize it.
