VOLTE T-Mobile, not working (WORKING as of last update) - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

I'm experiencing issues with VOLTE on T-Mobile. My phone switches immediately from an LTE+ DATA connection to HSPA the moment a call is placed. Of course, VOLTE is enabled on the settings side. I'm running an unmodified system, upgraded to PIE.
I've been on the phone with T-Mo to make sure the APN is correct (nothing special to mention here). I've also tried different connection combinations using the *#*#4636#*#* with different results but, even though the phone connects really fast to DATA (LTE+), I cannot get VOLTE to function in any case. On the other hand, WiFi calling works just fine.
On a chat with Razer, they just told me that VOLTE is unstable with T-Mobile and, to disable the function altogether from settings.
Before I give up, I'm asking the geniuses here for ideas or experiences? Any ideas anyone?

I hope this can be figured out. Im waiting for my Razer 2 phone delivery and also on T-Mobile. What OS are you running? Android Pie?

Yes, I'm on Pie.

Good news! with today's update (3-20-2019), my phone is using VOLTE technologies to connect audio calls. Phone calls sound immensely better now (the "HD" icon shows up during the call and the "LTE+" connection indicator in the status bar remains through the call).

Cannot get wifi calling working on LYZ28E

I thought I had wifi calling working, but now I suspect it isn't. I don't have the indicators others have such as the quick tile or the dialer indicating it is a wifi call. I checked the setting and see that I have wifi calling (wifi preferred) enabled and the cellular network type is IWLAN in the SIM status.
I thought it might be because of Google Voice so I turned that off. I ensured that I have my E911 address set. I had "wifi calling" on my account from awhile back and assumed that was necessary. I just removed it to troubleshoot the issue below and now cannot get it back. Not sure if others have that.
Here is the logcat error message:
Code:
D/PollingManager( 4414): phone state: 0 0 voice home data home T-Mobile T-Mobile 310260 T-Mobile T-Mobile 310260 LTE IWLAN CSS not supported -1 -1 RoamInd=-1 DefRoamInd=-1 EmergOnly=false
I have stock LYZ28E with MDM9625_10649.09.05.14R radio.
Same here. If I try to place a call with WiFi calling enabled the call ends immediately. There's no indication that it's using WiFi calling other than the call ending immediately.
I spent a good bit of time on the phone with a very helpful tech at T-Mobile trying to troubleshoot this. I didn't have the feature enabled on my account so she fixed that and told me it could take a few hours to show up. Still not working yet, but she did mention she was going to start (or add) my number to an internal thread so they could track. I'd encourage everyone having issues to call and make sure you get to the actual tech folks so they have an accurate accounting of the problem. At this point I'm assuming it's a bug but we'll see...
Edit: Rebooted and have wifi calling enabled, was able to make a call and my Google voice number showed up on the other end. In my case it seems the problem was that I didn't have the feature enabled in T-Mobile's system.
It wasn't working at all for me. I even flashed back to encrypted and unrooted and used the factory image. Never saw "WiFi calling" even though it was enabled. Eventually I just went back to Chroma. He said he has T-Mobile WiFi Calling working and it'll be in his next build.

Can you clarify what you mean about your GV number showing up on the other end? GV and T-Mobile WiFi calling are 2 completely different things.

Was clarifying the two do work together as they should, just to rule it out as a potential part of the problem.
My phone is still showing wifi calling as active so the change on T-Mobile's side seems to have fixed things for me.
I'm having issues with WiFi calling as well. Haven't been able to get it to work and bootloader, radio and baseband are all updated and on E ROM. No matter what i do it doesn't work.
I've made a few calls now since T-Mobile updated my account, it's working well on both my home and work wifi networks.

EE UK Wifi Calling

Hi folks, I'm having a bit of difficulty or confusion with wifi calling. I'm on EE but my phone is an XEU. There was a wifi calling option that didn't seem to do anything; no icon when enabled and no obvious network connection.
So I switched to the EVR firmware, wiped the phone and set up from scratch. Still got the same wifi calling option, still no icon or network activity with it enabled.
I don't seem to have VoLTE either, I would have thought the EVR CSC would enable that too?
Does anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks.
I have been having weird issues too with a dual SIM version and EE Wi-Fi calling. Inserting a microSD card in second slot can sometimes disable Wi-Fi calling in that I don't even see the option for switching on.
Hopefully future firmware fixes these glitches as I'm really loving this phone after using iPhones for a few years .
Jake
Wifi calling and VoLTE enabled itself after a serendipitous restart today.
Did your wifi calling ever actually work without an EVR CSC or firmware @ajdjackson ?
Edit: Looks like EE had some stuff to set up on my account, problem was at their end. My account says they're setting up roaming and could take up to 24hrs so something has happened to instigate these changes.
Anyway, now I'm really wondering if I need to EVR firmware at all. Samsung's multi CSC system should allow EE's wifi calling but EE would insist that it doesn't. Can anyone chime in?
Yes - strangely mine seems to working OK now even with the sd card in second sim slot. I haven't flashed any firmware at all.
Jake
Right, after a switch back to XEU I can confirm that EE Wifi Calling does work on a non EE phone but VoLTE does not!
So I switched back to EVR and everything's working fine again.
Quite surprising since EE have always insisted that Wifi Calling is exclusive to phones supplied by them, yet I've never read the same about VoLTE.
Hiya,
Just thought I'd share my experiences...
Like you, I'm also on EE and again like you my NOTE 8 is an XEU SIM free model, in my case from CPW. I found the same issue in that the wifi calling option could toggle on and off but the setting didn't seem to do anything; no icon when enabled and no obvious network connection.
I phoned EE on 150 for support but all they could suggest was to reboot my router at home even though I told them I also have a "work's" mobile phone (iPhone 5c) also on EE and that combination does have working wifi calling.
I decided to try a test to determine if the issue was with my Note 8 handset or with my new EE 4G SIM by swapping SIM's between the two phones. The work SIM worked immediately by activating wifi calling in my Note 8. My personal SIM was active in my works iPhone for approx. 2-3 minutes with no signal before a pop-up message appeared asking if I wanted to activate wifi calling. I obviously selected 'Yes' and when I swapped the SIM's back to their original handsets my Note 8 now magically works with wifi calling with the original SIM.
It's almost as if the menu item in the Note 8 for toggling wifi calling on and off doesn't activate the sim card even though the graphic animates to show the function activated.
Anyways, I now have a Note 8 with working wifi calling.
Hope that helps anyone else with similar issues involving EE wifi calling.
*EDIT* Hehe looks like my signature is a little out of date.
S.
Thanks Steve. Do you have VoLTE? I can't get that working without swapping the firmware for the EVR specific one.

Hmm I don't know. I know that I have 'Mobile Networks' setting 'Network mode' set to 'LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)' as opposed to the other settings of '3G/2G (auto connect)', '3G only' or '2G only' but how can you tell if a voice call is routed over 4G? Does a special icon appear as in the case of wifi calling? Hard for me to say as I have zero signal at home and very poor signal at work so in both cases my Note 8 defaults to wifi calling.
Have you tried calling EE to check if VoLTE is only supported on branded firmware as opposed to generic XEU? I know that in the case of wifi calling their website is very explicit in stating that wifi calling is not only supported on EE branded/sourced handsets but also works on certain generic handsets such as S8 / S8+ & Note 8. Their website on VoLTE or as EE term the service '4G calling' is not so clear...

This EE Community Forum post seems to lay the blame at Samsung's door as opposed to EE's...
https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/4G-and-mobile-data/VoLTE-on-Samsung-Galaxy-S8/td-p/559521
Reading the thread fully, it seems VoLTE is only available on EVR and not XEU.

Yes, this shows the VoLTE icon which appears whenever I have no wifi or I disable wifi calling.

The discussion on EE you linked is interesting, so they do limit VoLTE to their own supplied phones. I'd recommend switching to an EVR firmware, despite the guy who says there's no advantage for the user, I've found VoLTE very useful, especially in conjunction with Wifi calling. VoLTE/Wifi calls are so much clearer, they can seamlessly switch if you lose the wifi signal and they seem to connect a bit quicker too.

Ahh there is a symbol, thanks for sharing the picture. I can confirm that do not get VoLTE and whilst it would be good to have every function that I pay for working the fact that I get zero 4G signal at home and at work where I spend 90% of my time means I'm not realistically going to miss VoLTE as my phone now has a working 'wifi calling' service. I suppose that if EE ever get round to providing coverage in the blackspot that surrounds my home location then I might consider swapping to EVR firmware. I won't hold my breath though because in the 20 years that I have lived at my current address, EE and Orange before them haven't bothered with trying to provide adequate cellular coverage.
I remember going through exactly the same crap with my Samsung Galaxy S2, Orange firmware got an app called signal boost and the vanilla xeu firmware didn't and we had to do a number of things to get the app ported over to XEU. Seems like no matter how much technology advances over the years some issues never change.:silly:

Question WIFI calling

HI all,
As noted in the product pages and other information about the 5a, its being sold directly via Google. Has anyone ever figured out how to add WIFI calling to these devices?
I am under the impression if you want wifi calling on a certain network you MUST purchase a phone from that network (IE pixels, Samsungs etc).
I didn't really think about it. It "just works" for me on Mint, an MVNO on T-Mobile. I did use the USB-cable based method to migrate settings from the old phone to the pixel 5a before moving my SIM. But I don't think that was needed.
I was already using it w/ a previous phone, having gone to the Mint website to get the feature provisioned for my subscription. That phone was a retail phone I bought direct from Motorola, also not connected to Mint nor T-Mobile in any way. Originally, Once I provisioned it at Mint, the WiFi-Calling settings became available under Network settings in the phone.
Wifi Calling is working fine on Verizon.
Worked on AT&T pretty smoothly. Flipped the Wi-Fi calling switch under settings. Agreed to some at&t custom pages about 911, and 10 seconds later was calling on wifi.
Haven't been able to enable wifi calling with AT&T. Getting error EDS0060.
My T-Mobile US is working with wifi and 5g, no problems. I bought from Google to avoid crapware and locks from TMO.
I looked for the Wifi switch under settings and had none. It was the same with my Pixel 3a as well, and I am using Cricket. Signal at work sux so wfi calling would be good. I'm not there very often.
Still would be nice to have.

They hide it well - they don't want people to turn it off as it saves them a lot of bandwidth if everyone connects through their own wifi instead of a cell tower. Go to Settings/Network & internet/ then hold down Mobile Network for a bit, then go to bottom and select Advanced and look towards the bottom for Wifi Calling.

Thank You! I didn't realize you needed to hold the Mobile networks for a bit. Last time I just tapped it, went to advanced and nada. This time I found the switch and started activating wifi calling but errored out. I'll ty again later.

I don't think I can help further. Cricket is AT&T and does support wifi calling; the Pixel should be able to support their version. OTOH it may not be supported with your SIM card - if it is old you may want to see if you can get a new SIM card - just one possibility. There is a reason that wifi calling was not "on" by default. Edit: I assume your 5a came direct from Google, as mine did. Phones sold by network operators do have some modifications.

Rog phone 3 mobile network issue

Hey so I've had my Rog phone 3 for over 3 months now, updated to A12. A constant problem has been the mobile network. Works fine for WhatsApp, but for normal browser (different browsers), other apps requiring internet, though the mobile data is on, it acts like it's offline, showing offline. I have to toggle on and off airplane mode for it to eventually work. Then if I turn off mobile data and turn back on, the cycle repeats. Please help
I'm having the same issue here too. The A12 Beta had choppy Network Connectivity that would just crumple my phone and not allow me to use Communications or Data, the random disconnects were absolutely infuriating, and after updating to the stable build, it was just not allowing Mobile Communication at all. (No Incoming or Outgoing calls)
I'm extremely happy about the downgrade FW however to allow me to revert to A11 that at least allows my phone to function as intended, even if I cannot enjoy the update that A12 has to offer.
Downgrading from A12 to A11 is an Upgrade. A12 has little to offer beyond making your OS look like a kindergarten app ...
Upgraded to A12 last night with the OTA. Data is fine but I cannot make calls, network immediately drops. no other issues with the phone though, 4g data works.5g never worked but volte did (At&t network) VoLte doesn't show up and I cannot find a place to enable it however there is a toggle for it in notifications. I spent about 3 hours at AT&T. So. here is info if it helps anyone. They told me that the phone is somehow locked to 3g calling even though the sim card shows LTE voice. After the update only calls dont work. The guy said he helped me before by provisioning an older sim card and using VoLte, however from what i understand The phone Does support more than 3g voice but if someone can correct me that would be cool. Also I found out if I put a sim card from an ATT iPhone it will connect at 5g (20mbps speed tested). I said well if I lose voice and have to figure out a wifi calling plan I would rather do it with 5G, however when they provisioned a 5G sim for me on my account it wont link above 4g+ (1-3mbps) same tower. So im at a loss. I know part of it is the new android 12 update, I know some of it is the stupid account provisioning and i know some is the phone. I DO NOT know what is what so any help would be awesome. If there is some way to add VoLte back to the phone in android 12, flash a new radio or something... but if someone can shed some light onto what is really happening so I know where I can press that would be slick. if the phone does communicate through something other than 3g voice then I can push back on At&t but i have kept this "less" a development platform and more a daily driver. I guess that has to now change LOL!

Any developments on this? I am having the same issue.
Mine seems to lose connectivity after returning from do not disturb or when I'm inside with no signal for a while. I have to toggle airplane mode for sec, then I can use the phone. My wife texts me a few times a week, "It's going straight to voicemail again.", then I toggle it and call her. It will work fine for the rest of the day. Doesn't happen every time, though. Bizarre, though most of the time it's in the morning after returning from do not disturb mode. Kind of a hassle, but I'm coping. I'm going to start logging when it happens to see if any settings may be causing this.

Question Big issue, No Data during a call.

So One thing I discovered on this new phone of mine is that although working perfectly there is a major flaw in the way Internet data works during a phone call.
Any time you make a call, the phone downgrades the active signal from 5G/4G to H or E ( GSM).
Which in turns cuts off the data.
If I force 5G or 4G, then the phone call cannot be made. It just disconnects.
I have tried all settings, Volte enable/disable with no joy.
Some have said it's a carrier limitation, but it's not, cause in my iPhone, the very same simcard works just fine and the Internet is usable during a call.
Also tried with dual Simcard setup. As in the settings, the phone allows to use one simcard for data and one for call. Still not working.
Can someone please tell me if there is a solution please, or can you try your phone while on the call to see if Internet works as this feature is detrimental to me keeping the phone. If this doesn't work I will be selling the phone and getting a realme replacement.. Xiaomis sometimes suck with their non existent support.
Thanks

Global ROM 13.0.4
I can't see an operator fault if they have Volte services enabled and this simcard works flawlessly on other android systems.
As a matter of fact, any SimCard i have tried, so far 3 providers and the phone does the same thing. As soonest the call is made it downgrades the signal to H while full 5G or 4G is available??

the operator must provide the necessary information for each brand and phone to activate Volte and Wowifi.
On my 11t pro everything works with SFR and nothing with FREE because Free has not yet transmitted the information necessary to activate the services.
So went to see the operator. They sell Xiaomi phones. 3 network ( Three EU)
The phones in the stores are working just fine, no issues at all. And my phone simply just isnt.I have tried every possible setting and still not working.
See the screenshot below. As I'm typing this I'm on a super fast full signal 5G connection. As soon as I make a phone call, the phone will downgrade to E or H+ which is horrible. This network signal switching is also laggy, and If 2g signal is poor I cannot even make a call.

Does the "Use VoLTE" switch appear in the SIM card settings?
If not you can try the Dialer Code *#*#869434#*#*. That only will make this switch appear, but sometimes this is enough. It should also show the little VoLTE-Badge next to the signal strength (see screenshot).

I just had another look and on your 1st post it says the SIM is named "3 IRL", as far as I know Three Ireland does not offer VoLTE at all.
So it will always drop to 3G/H+ or 2G/E ... on every phone.

5G connection should support this naturally. If I put this simcard Into an iPhone or Galaxy the 5G connection stays on regardless.
Anyway even with Vodafone this doesn't work,so I'm thinking it either a phone limitation or a phone is fooked

No, for VoNR your phone still needs the same configs as with VoLTE. Though only a few operators support VoNR as of now.
