Has someone with unclocked bootloader been able to install Magisk?
It would be awesome to have root and Gpay working thanks to it

I hear it should be easy enough. I'll be able to unlock on Tuesday evening and so will report back on my successes (and/or failures!)

Yes

I may even try just keep stock rom and root that, by attempting to modify the boot.img, as shown in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/magisk-twrp-device-encryption-t3733601/page1
Stock rom is fine for me for now and whilst I'd love to try out the EU rom, I will be happy enough to have my phone as it is now (firmware wise) but with root and all the joys that brings (app theming, ad blocking, viper4android etc).
Tuesday night I'll get to start playing around and attempting all of this. I'll definitely post a guide of whatever I'm successful with

Nice! Mines 3:30pm on Tuesday so I'll rush home from work and do my best to get the EU rom flashed via trwrp

How has everyone progressed with unlocking their phone. My time has come for me to do it, but busy with work the next couple days so have to wait til then. I plan to unlock, then hopefully root so I can do a full back up, then flash a global rom on my chinese version phone. One thing I don't understand yet is do I need to install another recovery (twrp) or will the global version flash ok on the stock recovery? Thanks

If you just want to flash the global version use miflash. If you want to go xiaomi.eu you have to use TWRP.

I just flashed blobal version as I'm in Australia and all went well. Next step is to root. I can still install twrp right? Will this end up wiping my device if I do it now?

TWRP per se doesn't wipe anything but... Yes, if you didn't format yet the data partition do 'decrypt' it, you'll have to do it

Grazie amico. Sounds like I have to do it again. Didn't take long to restore from backup. Mi backup is actually very good.

With Unlocked bootloader magisk "works" but you can't update to magisk 18. It's broken for some reason. Only magisk 17 works.

Even the latest v19 works too

I have a problem. Yesterday in between transactions suddenly my Google pay card stopped working. When I tried to add it again - I got info about root or other modification to the system. SafetyNet check was pass! I installed magisk, and hidd Google pay. Still no go.
Can't add the card.
Any thoughts?

Sadly my Google pay stopped working. I made a transfer and I tried to make another one after 10 minutes only to be rejected. I tried adding the card again only to fail with info about phone modification... SafetyNet test passed ok! I tried installing magisk (19) and hid some things. But that didn't helped..

My tips: clear the data of Google pay/Google play services/nfc services, use magisk hide for Google play services, Google pay, reboot. Also ensure Secure Element Position is set to HCE Wallet.
Hope that works for you!

Help a new owner out with a couple of root questions

Hi! So a brand new MI 9 owner here wondering about a few things in regards to rooting the phone (without TWRP). My main concerns are, 1) is there still a waiting period to unlock the bootloader? 2) Does rooting cause some system apps to not work properly? For example in my previous phone the cost for rooting (or unlocking bootloader) was terrible camera quality.. And 3) can I still get regular system updates without having to manually flash a full rom?
Oh and a bonus question! Has anyone tried if there's any way to use Xperia keyboard on this phone? It's the only keyboard that hasn't made me want to go toss my phones in the river...
Not sure if there's any way to root mi9 without twrp, someone will hopefully correct if i'm wrong, but i've not heard of one - you need the advanced options twrp offers over stock recovery to flash magisk, but i may be wrong. Perhaps you may be able to extract ur boot img or something and inject magisk, so it's pre-rooted, but i don't know how to do that, sorry. Most peoples banking apps work in most places using magisk hide but i've read that some banks/regions require further work. Not heard of any reports of camera degradation tho.
Why don't you wanna flash twrp? Yes, there's a waiting period to unlock bl. Not sure about the keyboard, don't have it

Well this was at the top of the Mi 9 Guides, News & Discussion page here: [TUTO] Complete tutorial to root MI9 without TWRP (Keeps intact encryption of the MI9. Encryption is always good and I haven't needed TWRP much before so I figured that's the best option for me. Oh and no, there's no wait time anymore. Just downloaded the unlocker and it gave me the green light to go ahead. Bought the phone yesterday..

Ah OK, hadn't seen that thread. Good luck with it all. Download Mi unlock tool and it'll tell you how long to wait, maybe 720 hours.. There is a thread for instant unlock, but it's only worked on a few cases
You definitely want to flash Magisk via TWRP, because you will need a few modules there that really improve the phone, are absolute must haves.

Such as bump audio bitrate when recording up to 6ch, 960kbs; Youtube Vanced, Netflix (yes, if you root it, you will need magiskhide or no Netflix), liboemcrypto disabler; Cloudflare DNS; Viper4Android (this one quite optional, but makes such a difference).

I don't know what's your doubt, but mauronofrio's TWRP keeps the encryption per default.

Really? If the encryption is preserved with it, I don't see any reason not to go TWRP. Can't believe I've missed that, I try to do my research before posting Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, encryption is on, I've never had my phone with a decrypted ROM. Using mauronofrio's TWRP -35 currently.

Mega sucks...!!!
Can you upload it to another file server???
I have been running this version for several days, battery lasts about 1-2 days.
Do you use the stock or custom kernel ?
I have had a slight improvement with the radio performance after updating to 10.3.1 GM21AA. In my bathroom, the device used to drop to WiFi Calling but now can stay on cellular. The call quality in my bathroom on cellular now is decent. It shows 3 bars where it once was 1, but that one bar was garbled when on cellular on 10.3.0.

Many thanks for this. Might you have the boot image for this 10.3.1 ?
I rushed myself and rebooted without first reinstalling Magisk 20.3. My phone boots with the new 10.3.1 and works, but I lost root. Magisk Manager 7.5.1 still works, but won't let me install the 20.3.
Many thanks in advance.
I'm OnePlus 7 pro, GM 1917, and now 10.3.1, without TWRP... Oh, and feeling stupid! I absolutely knew to not reboot at that point, and lost track of where I was in the process.
I can't believe how I was Over-thinking this!
I'm good to go. It worked so easily. Thanks for the hand-up.
Thanks

Any help much appreciated thanks....... figured it out thanks anyway
so you guys have flashed to 10.3.1 and then reinstalled twrp and magisk 20.3 without issues? mine keeps getting stuck on the boot logo after i flash magisk. Not sure what i might be doing wrong. flash the 10.3.1 zip, reboot, fastboot twrp, then boot into twrp and install magisk. I've been able to install EX kernel as well and it'll boot as long as I don't try and install magisk. But really need root back! Help!

How do you flash updates via magisk? Just download the update locally then patch it? Doesn't that erase all data on the phone?

[STOCK] Stable realmeUI/Android 10 ROM for RMX1991

Hi folks,
What we used as beta ROM is now published as official stable release known as version RMX1991_11.C.12 for Chinese model of Realme X2.
Probably anyone can upgrade the phone now in any possible way.
The bad news is FP stops working as soon as you patch vbmeta for disabling AVB...
The good news is that there's no verification of system partition. You can leave vbmeta untouched and modify whatever you want except boot.

No, Magisk is patching boot, which will require you to disable verification by means of vbmeta. You can try system-based methods like one of SuperSU.

but in order to fix twrp replace issue vbmeta verification is needed to be disabled right??
I will try to search for it. Is it just a normal app to install from Play store? or requires other method?
One more thing, TWRP working with it or no?

No. At least a few last CN ROM versions are insensitive to recovery replacement. You can keep stock vbmeta and flash custom recovery. But recovery will be replaced when you boot system, i.e. you flash custom recovery for single and immediate use

Backup is a nice thing. I would always insist on creating backup.
I successfully switched onto realmeUI without losing data. As I understand, you have to do it from A.17 (for CN device). My path was A.16 -> C.02, but now many are suggested to upgrade from A.17 straight to C.12.

rebooted into fastboot and ran the windows bat file in the command promt
wait about 5-10mins for 1st boot
And magic!
been testing features and as i can see the rom is overall more smooth and polished, Im in th US on Tmobile and still getting 5g, banking apps work, google pay works, no more issues with needing to go into every app to enable notifications, any other questions let me know! now only waiting for root method and TWRP

It also enabled the toggled for WiFi Calling on AT&T as well. Which I then turned on and selected to prefer mobile data as I don't really care about WiFI Calling.

ANDROID 11

Which custom rom is best for redmi note 8 in ANDROID 11
Opinions are different from person to person. You should do a research on this subject then choose anything to your taste. Easier this way than asking someone. In this way you'll gain knowledge and you'll be able to provide tips and advises to others.
Anyway, you should stay away from the latest update to A11 from Xiaomi!!! The official update is garbage!!! I regret so much doing this step... lost some useful and basic functions. Looks like their devs are stupid really... or just hate their customers.
Just try whatever you thing is ok for you.

1. In your opinion it is better to install V12.0.4.0 with android 10 or stay on V12.0.2.0 with android 11?
2. After installing MagiskHide Props Config v6.0.2-v132 (72), will I have trouble adding a credit card to gpay? (on android 11)?

Managed to install Magisk again (older version...), gain root and activated OTA survival on OrangeFox Recovery. So far, no issues but still afraid to try A11 again...

what were your problems?
best thing for me is setting phone to airplane mode and it lets bt on if was connected before.
and really nice and smooth system
Well, there were several bugs on my device which I was unable to sort them out and decided to go back to 12.0.4.0...
Most annoying one was the impossibility to share a file from file manager by swiping up to a file... A message came on screen telling me there is no app to handle the action on my personal profile or something like that... Whaaat?
Another bug was the 3 fingers screenshot option... Not there... Just not working... Or dynamic icons... This function also was not available anymore...
I had no patience digging for bugs, was pissed and flash the goddamn device with the previous working version of android... Was so angry that I forgot to back up my data and lost all my personal files!!!
But of course, I did not factory reset my device after A11 update... This move, should not exist!!! Why this option is never applied on iphones??? Of course they're not perfect but update after update and never, ever had issues with the device and never had to factory reset it after a major update.... Jesus Christ, this android....
well. i understand that.
3 fingers screenshot can be activated from notifications.
funny thing is possibility to activate new notification centre. its not there. unless you look for it in search. funny thing - your phone has to be in english
i was android developer for 3 years and I like this system just because these possibilities.
im rooted. i can edit hosts file and make adblock perfect and simple.
but for normal people just for using phone there is iPhone. its simple and working.
or also samsung devices are quite good but pricey
About 3 fingers screenshoot: The option was enabled in my device, so even if it was active, the function did not worked!
start camera from lock screen was moved to double volume up but also not working. ist still beta
