Can't Turn Off Blue Light Filter - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

This is driving me nuts. I set up my new s10 by signing in to my Google account and choosing to restore my Pixel 3 XL backup. All the apps and everything downloaded just fine, but the blue light filter that I had scheduled for 10pm to 6am on the Pixel has apparently followed me to the S10. The only problem is that I have no way to disable it. It shows as off in the settings even though it clearly turns on at 10pm. If I manually change the clock to say 7pm, the filter turns off, but the whole time, the settings show that it's off. Enabling it in settings while it is already active results in a slightly more red blue light filter, that's it. Short of doing a factory reset and setting it up as a new device, I can't think of any way to fix it. I've even tried turning off the setting on my Pixel to no avail. Any ideas?

I had the same issue.
Download an application called Activity Launcher.
You will need to find the activity that is linked to night shift, I can't remember the name on the top of head but it will be pretty obvious when you will see it.
Samsung apparently decided to scratch away the stock feature by just creating their own one and removing the stock one's setting entry. However it's still there, and still working as long as you can manually launch the activity and it activate automatically if you had a schedule created on another device.
Funily enough that allows you to get even stronger effect by combining both features at the same time.

Check your nightlight settings in the Google Play Books App. Set that to 0 and it should fix the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't even have Google Play Books installed.

Dude, thank you so much. It worked. I can't believe how annoying it was not to be able to turn that off. Much appreciated!

Blue light filter on off
Hi my blue light fliter is getting on and off. Specially on chrome and cnet website. And even when keyboard pops up on chrome.
Updated android 11. Still same. Keep changing sometimes while just scrolling.

Can confirm this worked for me on S20 with info transferred from a Pixel 2 XL. The color shift was so subtle I thought I was imagining it at first! Thanks for the fix.

I am having the same issue with my newly bought 2 days old Xiaomi 11T. I transferred everything from my previous phone Xiaomi Mi A1 and I had Night Light scheduled to turn on at 11:30 p.m. and off at 7:00 a.m. But now there is no NIGHT LIGHT feature on Xiaomi 11T but the screen automatically turns yellow when the schedule starts and turns back to normal at 7 a.m. Please help me with this. I tried installing Activity Launcher, but I couldn't find the setting you are talking about. I also have both, schedule and reading mode turned off in the settings, but this still happens due to settings brought from the old phone.
Please help me out.

Think that's the same app that boned me. It alters a hidden user setting that remains after you uninstall it.
Unclean uninstall... Gookill sucks.
The way I fixed it was to reinstall it, change that setting, uninstall. Over a year later still on that same OS load, A-ok.
OP: don't use SmartSwitch when migrating to a different device especially for apps. Do a clean load... more *surprises* are likely waiting for you.
Do not trust SmartSwitch with critical data... I use it for homepage settings only where if it fails it's no big deal.

I have a Galaxy s21 ultra and I spent the last month so furious that I couldn't get the blue light filter to stop coming on at sunset until I saw this post and downloaded activity launcher and found the night light setting
Thank you so much to everybody who responded here

God am I happy I wasn't the only one with this problem. Thank you guys so much for finding a fix, I just got a z fold 3 and updated from the Pixel 3XL so I had the exact same issue.

Camera app problem

Hey,
Every time when I open the camera app this screen appears.

In the camera settings under shooting methods is voice control on or off.
Voice control is off. When I turn it on the message don't appear. But I don't need voice control
I have the same problem. Every time I open the camera this notification appears to turn on voice control. It's frustrating
Have the same issue. Just updated my S10+ to Android 10 this morning. Met my friend and she also updated today and has the same issue on her phone.
Talked with Samsung support and they have no idea. After a bit of back and forth I convinced them to escalate.
This should be the Ref # for this specific escalation: 2222899743
Please contact their support to submit examples.
As for now I'm just going to use Tasker to dismiss that notice every time I open Camera.
Samsung said to me I have to hard reset my phone this is no option
Also have this issue, S10e. Don't use voice control for anything so it's all switched off. Only appeared with the Android 10 update as well.
Same problem here. Galaxy S10. Happend after upgrading from OneUI 1 to 2.
Same problem here as well, S10e. Just got the phone so don't know if it is caused by the upgrade or not. Fact is that I managed to disable most of the Bixby and other samsung apps - but this pop keeps coming up. I have tried Gcam, but that one crashes quite often.

Thanks for doing this! This is probably a really dumb question, but how do I even contact them to report the issue? I am also having the same problem and this forum is the only place I've seen anything about it.
Hello All,
I discovered the prompt to turn on TalkBack stopped after I disabled an app I was using called Holey Light. Holey Light needed extra permissions so it could give me a notification light around the front camera. Don't know why, but after turning it off via the Accessibility > Installed Services setting, the prompt stopped happening.

Interesting, I also have Holey Light. I disabled it and the pop-up in the camera disappeared, but I quite like Holey Light so that's a bit of a pain. HL also seemed to need to change the Text-to-Speech language from English (UK) to English (US), although I'm not sure that is necessarily relevant.
Anyway, looks like maybe you've found the cause, nice one :good: . Hopefully Chainfire might be able to work out if it's anything he can fix.

Good to know. I'll see if I can reach out to this Chainfire fella and let him know. I'm from the US, so my language was already set to English (US). Like you say, maybe not relevant but another similarity in our settings anyhow. :highfive:

Accessibility Service could be the Cause
Go to Settings -> Accessibility-> Installed Services, and turn off Installed services one at a time. Check if the prompt disappears. For me, it was the "Select to speak" service that caused it. Other folks found Holey Light to be the cause.

Great find, I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was causing this. I use Holey Light although it does not work all the time, its better than nothing having one. Guess ill have to concede to samsung listening
Try aodNotify.
I had this problem as well, was good to find these posts. It looks to be solved in the latest update of Holey Light
Yes, not sure if it was a HL update (don't recall one) or the February security update (more likely), but I was able to turn the Voice Activation off on my camera and the pop-up hasn't come back.

'No photos selected.' while charging the device

Hi folks,
I tried tons of things to get rid of this message while the phone is charging, but nothing saved me - how can I disable it?
What I've done till now (major things):
1. Clear data and cache from google assistant
2. Turned off google assistant
3. cleared Mi account (which i guess is not related)
Any idea before I'm doing factory reset? (I hate thinking about it..)
BTW, I'm running on MIUI 11, stock global rom.
Thanks,
-M
Found the class which causes this issue, an app called application launcher, helped me causing it.
The class is: com.android.systemui.Somnambulator
How the hell can I know which process instantiates it? I see it's under systemui
Found a solution!
After four days of searching I found a solution..
May God help Xiaomi with their weird system.
So,
Iv'e discovered that the issue is that screen saver was turned on somehow. There was no ability to turn it off.
Searching in the web led me to think that I need some Tasker to handle it. So I came across a thread related to this 'screen saver' feature (don't you feel like it's windows 95?!).
I've downloaded an app that controls this feature, its name is - 'widget screen saver'. There I saw an option to configure this screen saver turn up.
I clicked on *never* and that's it!!!
Hope it will help someone.
Cheers
-M
Thank you! Finally a solution
Thx, mate! I also tried to solve the problem, sent a report to Xiaomi, but no response.
Thanks man, it works!
I was so annoyed with this stuff. Searched on my phone like a madman, but no screensaver setting.
Hi, it helped me with my xiaomi redminote 9s. Installed the app "widget screensaver", i've gone in "settings", then there is the optiono "when to start"...putting "never", is solved (i suggest also to set automatic start to the app). Thanks

How to prevent ColorOS[CN] setting from changing back?

I realized that when I change some settings in ColorOS it magically changes back without telling you.
I installed Google Assistant from the app store. It required Google Assistance to be selected as the default Assistive App [default value : none]. After I changed that.. it changes back at some random amount of time.. I'm not able to work out how long it takes for it revert the setting.. but sure enough it will.
Another App is LastPass.. It requires me to Enable Autofill from accessbility Options.. Once again I turn it ON.. after some random amount of time it will revert it back to "Off"...
What can be done to stop this from happening?

Happens to some degree in the EU model too, noticed the lastpass app autofill stops amongst other things. Am thinkin maybe it's the Phone Manager app which I think kills battery intensive apps if you allow it

I'll give this a try.. I've gone into phone manager -> startup manager and allowed the two apps.. the two apps wasn't there even though I have allowed the app to run in the background.
We will see tomorrow.
Nope that didn't work.. anyone else have other suggestions? Anything to remove delete or hack?

Man,I don't know what the issue is but read on the Realme community that the OS just reverts to defaults to ensure proper functioning of the phone,
ColorOS is certainly the biggest downside to this phone. Am missing OxygenOS on my 6T a lot though I'm Gona stick with the x2 pro for now,
Bought the phone for its flagship specs and storage and and to get away from the hassle of messing around with the phones setting's with tricks and mods.
Have decided to just accept colourOS for what it us.,though there is some battery drain,it's not awful and I'm still getting notifications.
Will just have to hope things improve with updates and the next big update should improve things a lot, mind you,it's a long way to April ?
Not notice anything revert on mine... This sounds like the same issue I had on the mi 9... I can't remember how I solved it but it was something to do with the auto security checks the phone manager app did... After a set amount of time the phone manager would perform certain checks and reset certain options throughout the operating system.

Ok.. I found my work around for now.
I'm using tasker every 10 mins to change the accessibility options for all the apps that need it and set the google assistant to default.
Working ok so far for the last day.

Seems like more trouble than its worth, the only settings I'm having trouble keeping are the animation ones, but honestly it's not bothering me anymore. Have animations setting set to fast in the stock launcher setting and it's not so bad.
Didn't think lastpass was working but it has been appearing to autofill login to sites in a chrome

Is there any way to lock apps in memory on miui 12.0.9?

Hi, I'm on stock 12.0.9.0 (QJOEUXM - global EU channel)
This update redacted the facility to lock apps in memory and select Split Screen from the Recents menu (apparently it was unstable for some users - it's to come back in a later update)
So, as it stands when you long press an app in the Recents menu, instead of being offered Split Screen, Lock, Info, it just takes you directly to App Info
Until it's fixed, does anyone know of another way to lock apps in memory?
It's getting very annoying having miui kill processes all the time
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Very definitely, yes! I'd been scouring the settings menus to find this feature again but couldn't find anything relevant
This morning the miui Security app opened up and offered me the chance to Lock Apps in memory, meaning I could select the relevant apps which are now shutting down less often
Unfortunately I can't find any way to find this menu again! Miui settings menus are a maze!
And the answer is:
Security app » Settings cog » Boost speed » Lock apps
Thanks to u/sparklesunshine777 on Reddit for that

Hi. so this means apps that are locked don't get killed all the time? There is a lock function in the settings but that just prevents apps from staring without a finger print or pin I believe.
I found an option in CustoMIUizer to stop MIUI force closing selected apps. (but that needs root.) and it seems to help so far the app (RL Bubble) stopped only 1 time today instead of every hour or so but that is still 1 time too many.
So I added it in the security app too. Who would think to look there in stead of the settings. Great find! Thanks.
I think that they make the phones more and more complicated by hiding/relocating/renaming the settings every android version.
Hi, a quick question. I do lock apps in the background, but i notice sometimes the padlock is lets say highlighted and sometimes just dim.
Anybody knows what that is?
Thank you.

I have an issue related to this in stock miui with netguard vpn - basically its still killed once in while even though:
Its already locked as described above including autostart;
its already set in stock android system settings for battery use as "not optimized"
its also set with the miui app settings battery saver as (no restrictions)
it's set under network settings as (always on);
So what else can I do non-root to prevent this happening?

Super annoying stuff. especially when you want to multitask, the last resort if not buying a different brand phone is to install a custom ROM, and get rid of MIUI altogether. Imo, even tho battery is not as good is a good sacrifice for sanity.

How To Guide Other ways to improve missing notifications

I've recently got my hands on the Mi 11 Ultra, and the top issue I was having was that none/only some notifications will show up. I've searched around the forums and some say that setting the app's battery limit to none, having the app set to auto-start etc. I've followed all those tips and it wasn't really working out for me until I stumbled onto another option.
First, you'll have to enable the developer's option. Once inside, find the setting that says " Adaptive Notification Priority". Turn this OFF and all of your notifications should show up properly now.
Before turning this off, I wasn't getting any of my Instagram Direct notifications and only part of my WhatsApp notifications. Now they all pop up like they're suppose to.
Hope this helps out those with similar issues!

Didnt help me... still not Gmail notifications and some apps require to turn on in order to get notifications even when auto-start is enabled and battery consumption is turnd off
To get notifications, you need to do 2 things:
Go in apps and toggle on Autostart, change notification setting to "Important"
