RIP Game Tuner in Pie update...how to force game resolution to max?? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

So I just updated my Note9 to latest Pie about a week ago. I like a lot of things, but found a couple really annoying problems. First is that when connected to Bluetooth in my car, when using YouTube Music app, 8 out of every 10 times the song finishes and starts the next track...I get no audio. I have to play/pause or hit next/previous to get audio back. But that's a different issue than this thread...
Second issue I just found is that Game Tuner is now gone. I used Game Tuner before to force some games to use full resolution for a much sharper visual experience. I primarily play Clash Royale and noticed that my game was looking a little blurry again
I found the settings within Game Launcher, but they aren't as good...and don't give you as much control over resolution. Everything is set to highest performance, but I can easily tell that the resolution isn't full as some of the graphics/text in the game are not nearly as sharp as before.
Any way to fix this??? Super annoying... The game doesn't require that much battery as-is and it's annoying that I can't make use of the awesome screen resolution.

The only way is by disabling Game Optimizing Service by using 'Package Disabler Pro ( Owner APP) All Android' in Play store.
Disable it and reboot.
Then all games are now just apps, you can't use Game Launcher/Game Tools. You may disable them too.
But the apps (once games) are now show in full resolution.

And that's the only way to do it at this point? Seems so dumb...
What other negative implications does this have, if any? The obvious one I can think of is that any options for battery savings are not available any longer (which I normally don't really care about anyways).
And I assume this process is reversible, so you can just re-enabling the Game Optimizing service and rebooting to get back to original state again??

Yes you are right

Looks like samsung just updated its game launcher, has more settings now and can disable the low res option.
Update and let us know please!

The update doesn't seem to change anything... There is an option for disabling/enabling the low resolution. But I get the slightly blurry output regardless of what I set that switch to.
To be fair, when I say it's blurry...it's actually fairly subtle. A couple of my less picky friends couldn't even tell the difference at first...but after looking side by side with a phone running native resolution, they could tell.
I'm picky about visuals/screens, so it bugs the crap out of me. If I have a great screen with high resolution, I'd like everything to look as good as possible. The slightly soft graphics are super annoying to me.
Not happy about this. I haven't tried the previously suggested option for Package Disabler because it seems like a slightly more involved process than I was inticipating...

Do you know of a package disabler for the snapdragon note 9 running pie, stock phone not rooted? Seems like no matter which ones I try they no longer function since Oreo went to pie. If you know of one could you share the play store link as I could use it big time. Much thanks in advance.
Cheers!

HTC YouTube app no longer plays smooth!!

Looks like something have changed att youtube because it's like the built in youtube application is suddenly struggling to play the high res videos. It's not a buffering issue, I've checked that already. Videos get short pauses now and then, almost like the hardware acceleration is disabled. I doubt I'm the only one experiencing this...
Could you link me to this youtube app, please? I went directly to the youtube site yesterday and streamed a couple of short vids which played ok but with buffering. It played in the stream app on the phone and I couldn't zoom it or do full screen. What does the youtube app do differently? Does it allow better streaming or full screen or something?
I mean the original youtube app thats pre-installed in the Diamond. It uses hardware acceleration to play videos with nice quality and smooth framerate, now it's not that good anymore so I'm guessing something have changed at youtube... It's strange though...

That app doesn't appear to be on my phone, the t-mobile compact 4.
Maybe your operator removed it from your Diamond rom??? You can install it separately, check here for info and the download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472940
Just make sure you install the VGA one... But you probably already knew that of course...

Yep, I suspect t-mobile did indeed remove it. Thanks for the link!
Your welcome If for some reason the app refuses to play the videos on your Diamond you might need to install the youtube fix aswell...: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2657501&postcount=164

Okey dokey, thanks. It's installed now and rebooting. I'll try the fix if it doesn't work. And no, I didn't know I needed the VGA version so thanks for pointing that out.
Ok, I installed the fix because the screen looked a bit messed up and the text is tiny and I can't seem to zoom in. Stil the same with the fix however the video runs very well. But, the capture area is a small square on the left bottom corner in landscape mode. I'll take some pictures of my screen for you.
Ok, here's 2 screenshots. It defaults to playing in landscape but only the small area you can see. Where I type to search, the letters are cut off (see 'CATS AND DOGS') and the text is microscopically small. Any adjustments I can make? Is it possible for the seartch to bring up more than 5 results?
At least it works though, very smooth playback.
That looks very strange... Videos should play fullscreen in landscape...
I suggest you to uninstall that version & the fix and get this version instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481495
It's a newer version of the HTC youtube player, download the second link, the full version: http://www.uploadjockey.com/download/4336552/Youtube_v1.6.1820.4128_FULL.zip
I really hope this will solve your problems and make it work as it should, if not I'm out of ideas since I'm not an expert in this area...

Thanks man, I'll give it a try.
This is odd. I've installed it successfully and it shows up in 'remove programs' but it doesn't show up anywhere else, nowhere to be found in program files, (the other version did), so I can't start the app. This happened when installing to the internal storage, uninstalling it, and reinstalling to the device.
I'll reinstall the earlier version and then do the upgrade version, see if that helps.
Yes that worked! Thanks for the links owziee
I notice that I can scroll up and down the list of videos with the centre button, but it doesn't respond to screen touch with finger, is it meant to be like that? Anyway, not bothered, just wondering. I'm happy now, the quality is great, it's full screen and the text is normal size now.
No thats not normal, I can use my finger to scroll but at least you can watch the videos now. Maybe you'll find a fix for the scrolling issue.

I suppose it may be that because your Diamond came pre fitted with a youtube app that perhaps it was optimised to work with touch screen? Whereas mine is a t mobile phone which didn't come with youtube on it.

ggNES emulator explain please!

I've got it down now.
Please go buy this new emulator is blows Nesoid out of the water. It is called ggNES. The lite version isn't a good impression to be honest. It uses the trackball, the volume keys, etc and you can't map the keys.
I bought the full version and I've got the FPS's up to 115!!!!
Sound is a lot better
Just will take a few to get use to.
A lot of comments are badgering the app but they're just foolish I haven't seen a better emulator yet!
"FC" = Family Computer (commonly called by its shortened name "Famicom") home video game console in Japan but in the US it's called "NES".
Have yet to use the emulator so I can't help you there.
I got the lite version and i can map the keys just fine!

I just don't like how it scans my files when it starts looking for Roms. I have all my Roms in a folder with Subfolders so it should let you tell it where to look opposed to going scan happy.
I haven't really tested it other than that so far.
The sound and totally fullscreen is better than nesoid. However, the screen is pixelated. Nesoid looks more filtered. The colors are off on ggnes. People are getting high fps but frame skip of 2 is imposed at a minimum. Its choppy.

I'd suggest just playing around with it, turn off the high def.
And you can disable that rom search just tinker around with it.
Its not hard.
I prefer nesoid. Things I do not like:
Lists entire directory path
Odd screen dimensions (how is this better than Nesoid?)
No turbo option
Things I like:
Nice options, but screen options odd. Either squished on sides or top and bottom.
Frame rates show plus 60, but do not seem so. Besides, anything above 60hz is pointless with games designed for 50fps (PAL) or 60fps (NTSC).
The effort is appreciated and will be real good if noted issues are corrected. Since there already is a good NES emu. Perhaps time would be better spent on GBC, SMS, Game Gear and Turbgrafx?
actually this is runnin good.. u can change ur keys, i had it for 2 days and it updated twice ahh back in 4th grade memories
Lol I think it will more support for it will cause better emus later on. I think its better then Nesoid. I really like how you can key map and I like the fps running faster then 60.
I want to see a SNES emu from him so I can key map for portrait and play some good RPGS like Breath of Fire and Chrono Trigger.

[APK] Acer Liquid Music Player

Hello, while looking through the A1 system dump, i found something quite interesting.... a media player, which has a nice photo, music, and video view! looks kina like on the X10 . i didn't look into it that much yet. anyways, here you go:
http://www.zshare.net/download/703135684861892c/
Any ideas on how to make it faster? the scrolling is really choppy...
P.S.: A toast saying "The player needs to search for files, this may reduce performance" so maybe thats the reason for the choppyness... but i got another bad message, if you hit Artist you will be taken straight to the Songs, not to an album view...
Yeah, it's pretty slow and it has resolution issues too. Parts of the videos get cut off and the widget doesn't even fit on the screen.
Bearing in mind this phone has a Snapdragon, I wouldn't hold out tremendous hopes on it =$.
Not really that choppy for me, other than the obvious difference in screen size and widget issue, it's fine. Pretty nice.
Looks nice but its a tad bit slow. I'd love to see this optimized for G1s and myTouches

Music Player
some more info:
This apk is called Nemoplayer and it is also being distributed by the developer Drizzy and to make it a bit faster download the set cpu widget from the market and set the cpu to max seemed to fix the choppy problem for me.

Fixing YouTube app?

I'm just wondering whether anyone else is as frustrated as I am with the YouTube app included on the captivate. I always click on "more" and change it to "watch in high quality" whenever I pull up a video.
Is there some sort of workaround that could fix this? And by fix of course I mean change the app to always pull videos down in high quality.

You can flash the JH2 or JH3 ROM and it has a HQ button right on the front so it is an easy 1 click to load the HQ video, Or you can connect to a wireless connection and it will always load the HQ version..
I installed the default Youtube app from the Droid X or something that allows for you to set the high quality setting as default and includes the HQ button on the screen as well. Been working fine for me; but as always, buyer beware.
question, did you delete the original youtube app before installing this?
I'm leaning toward this option of installing another version of youtube. I'm rooted, and running Titanium backup and have used droid explorer and all. I would also like to know whether I need to uninstall the default youtube, because I've backed up and deleted the AT&T apps as recommended in another thread, but I haven't seen or tried reinstalling something once uninstalling using titanium backup. (Is that a paid version benefit?)
I don't really like the idea of flashing my rom just yet. I've had the phone about a month now, and am still a little jumpy with my new toy. Maybe in 6 months I'll be running cyanogenmod or something, but not just yet.
As far as connecting to a wireless network or just telling it every time to download in HQ, my problem is this: I'm not always near wi-fi, and it seems really hypocritical of the nation's fastest 3g network purveyors to make us watch underwater vaseline-glasses youtube videos when their network speeds support HQ viewing.
Thanks for the quick replies! XDA's great!

I just installed it right without removing the original since I figured it was just like updating the application. I think it prompts you that the older version will be removed and replaced by that one anyways.

Interesting, I just have the stock Youtube app and whenever I pull up a video and go to Menu, it shows "Watch in Normal Quality," which I assume means I'm already watching in HQ. I don't remember changing anything though...

When you are connected to wifi, it will default to the high quality setting. When you are connected to 3g, however, it will switch to normal/low quality mode. I'm assuming this is the case right now.

Regarding restoring an app after uninstalling it, I have been trying to do the same thing. It seems as if it wont restore simply from a backup. I am running the free version also so maybe it is a paid benefit.

RIP Game Tuner - Game options in Pie? (Resolution and framing)

As Game Tuner has been discontinued I can no longer get some games to run at higher resolutions. They made an excuse of an integration into Game Launcher which now only lets you limit the frame rate and "lower" resolution without any specifics. It's hard without direct comparison but I suspect some games are being rendered at 1080p even when the screen is set to WQHD+. For example Real Racing 3 has this issue most phones I've owned, where the graphics are rendered at <720p on 1080p phones. On Oreo for Note 9 I could get around this using Game Tuner, and if I have performance issues I could also overclock the phone. Usually games still have sloppy antialiasing but I still prefer them running at full resolution. After the Pie update Real Racing 3 really looks awful since I have no control over its resolution. The third-party RR3 graphics app only helps with rendering quality, not resolution, and back on Oreo, it actually looked better at medium settings since there was less aliasing.
Also, on Oreo you could force a 16:9 game to run at full resolution in the navbar options, is there any way to do this in Pie? I can't find it in the game tool settings. Even though some apps don't have proper optimization, many of these still work fine if you forced fullscreen on Pie (for example Horizon Chase and Smash Hit).
Are there any alternatives for changing resolution/hardware performance on Pie?

The huge improvement to Bluetooth latency in gaming is well worth the update. There's almost no latency with most headphones now. I don't know what took Samsung and Android so long since my ASUS Windows 10 laptop doesn't have this problem.

The full screen option is moved to the "settings - display", search it there... I liked it more in the game tools, but atleast they kept that. For the other part of your post - I agree, a lot of missing features this updates, my biggest pain is the multiwindow that was literally toned down to the google default implementation and it's super basic and bad... then there are a tons of bugs or clearly rushed features and that's sad given how much months that update was in development.
Does not work for me with TSTO The Simpsons Tapped Out. Since Pie and without Game Tuner no possibility to launch it in WQHD+.
System settings are ignored.
I Found A Solution To Fix, But It Will Work Only Once. Set The Resolution To HD+, Then Launch A Game, Then Go To High Performance, Set The Resolution To WQHD+, And I Hope It Worked For You. Note: That Will Work Only ONCE!!!
You can use WQHD+ resolution in games by disabling Game Optimizing Service, Game Launcher, Game Tools.
You can search the way on web with 'how to disable galaxy bloatware'.
And yes, device settings - display - full screen apps is 16:9 <=>21:9 setting.
