No sound from the phone while connected to Bluetooth or wired headphones - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a problem with my phone that started today.
The problem is that whenever I connect my Note 8 (N950F) to my Plantronics BT headset then the sounds from the phones speaker dissapears.
For example:
When I get a text message, it only sounds on the speaker of the BT headset.
This also happens when the phone is connected to wired headphones.
This used to work earlier. I didnt have this problem on Android 8 (Oreo). I didnt have the problem even when updating to Android 9 (Pie). This started when I today decided to factory reset my phone.
When it was working I could hear the sound from my phones speaker and also from my Bluetooth headset!
I have found a website where several users is having the same issue on different phones:
https:// us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S9/No-text-message-sound-when-Bluetooth-headset-is-connected/td-p/463471
(PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ADDRESS ABOVE HAS A SPACE BETWEEN "https://" AND THE REST OF THE ADDRESS)
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this issue? Or any idea what to try?

Why do you want your phone to make noise when you have your headset on??
Anyway, I think that through Advanced Sound Settings you can designate apps to send there sound to phone.

Because this is how the device normally works and is intended to work.
But I can give you an example:
Say that I have my Plantronics BT Headset connected to my phone and I´m not wearing it at the moment when I get an SMS, E-mail or something else that generates a notification sound. If the phone doesnt make any sound then I´ll miss that/these notifications. This also applies for any 3,5 mm wired devices that are connected to my phone.
This has always worked fine before on Android 8 (Oreo) and worked also fine on Android 9 (Pie) until yesterday when I made a factory reset on my Note 8.
I first believed that something was wrong with my phone, but now I know that there are several other user with the exact same issue. And this is not only an issue for Note 8, there are other users with S9 and S10 with the same problem.
I have tried the Advanced Sound settings you mentioned above, it doesnt work either!

Clear bluetooth settings, will delete all devices and reset bluetooth connections.
In All Apps, show System and find bluetooth or and bluetooth share, delete cache and data, reboot.
Note the on android pie there is issues with the bluetooth codecs and still no patch from sammy.

Tried it!
It didnt help ...
This is not just a Bluetooth issue, the same thing happens when I connect wired headphones to my phones 3,5mm jack

There is also a setting in Soundassistant App, advanced setting to direct the notification sounds and ringtones to headphones. Do you have that setting unchecked?
On my N950U1 running Pie beta #3 it all works as expected...

It's unchecked

I figured out a fix!!!
Go to Settings>Sounds and Vibrations>Advanced Sound Settings>Seperate App Sound
Turn the switch to the "On" position
Click on "App" and choose your messenger app and any other app you want to be heard through the phone.
Backup to the previous screen and press "Audio Device"
Choose "Phone"
You should be all set. You will now play your message/ phone sounds through your phone without losing audio through your Bluetooth device!

Possible Bluetooth Bug

I'm sure the following is a software issue but I don't know where to report this bug.
When I am listening to music or watching videos on my Note 4 through my Bluetooth stereo headset, I get pops and clicks noises every 2-3 secs and has been driving me up the wall. Talking with someone over the phone through Bluetooth yield no noises. Only way to fix this was to use a wired headphone/headset. My Note 4 is 910C with the latest firmware, not rooted nor modified in any way, everything is at stock.
After a lot of troubleshooting I finally figured it out that it wasn't my BT headset being faulty, nor my Note 4's BT, I will explain below.
I have my Note 4 paired with the following Bluetooth devices:
- LG HBS-900 Headset
- LG HBS-800 (Black) Headset
- LG HBS-800 (White) Headset
- LG HBS-700 Headset
- Sennheiser MM 550-X Headset
- Creative T6 Series II (Desktop PC Speakers that has Bluetooth)
- Samsung Gear Fit Watch
The issue is affecting the HBS-900 and both of the HBS-800. I have done the following which didn't fix the issue:
- Unpair then Re-pair
- Unpaired other headsets
- Restart Phone + Pulled Battery
- Went to "Application manager > Bluetooth" and cleared Cache and cleared Data
- Went to Recovery and cleared the cache
I was left with the last resort to re-flash the latest firmware. But I had a brainwave and decided to unpair the Samsung Gear Fit because out of all the paired devices, only the watch uses Bluetooth 4.0 while the headsets and speaker use Bluetooth 3.0.
Lo and behold, the popping and clicking noises disappeared completely right away. I paired all the other headsets to the phone, and audio was still clear. I replicated the issue again by pairing my Gear Fit back to the Note 4, and immediately the noises were back. And this issue occurs even without having the watch connected to the phone! So now I'm forced to pick either my headset or my watch....
Model N910C

Hi budy, have the same problems. But I think problem is between wifi and bluetooth. Whenever there is a information change via wifi to internet there is some strange noice or once in a while bluetooth is bracking up. There might be some frquency problems. So far no solution to these. Just reconnect.......
910f + gear live + connected audio to my home theater by BT , streaming all access music via WiFi = no problem .
Lollipop 5.01 Fixed It...... I think!

Not to do with WiFi in my case. I could have them switch on or off, connected or not connected, the noise will still be there.
But Good News! I saw the official Lollipop for N910C on the other thread, thought what the heck gonna flash it. So I flashed it via Odin but did not wipe my data, seems Bluetooth is behaving now. Maybe the previous mini updates did not do anything to the BT drivers and on Lollipop I saw the version and it's a newer version.
Didn't really want to do this at first cause it's only been released and bound to be buggy, but I did it!

P10 and Android Auto

Hello,
Today I installed the SONY XAV-AX100. Super. Everything works quite smoothly. I just have a problem with calling through android car. If someone calls me or call me and I connected via android car, so the call does not appear on the radio display only phone which is useless.
When I tested the Nexus 4 with Android CyanogenMod v6, it works well.
Some idea?

Firstly double check your bluetooth settings for that device and make sure all the sliders related to phone calls and Bluetooth audio are enabled, if that doesn't work - try a variation of making your head unit connect to the device and vice versa.
I have a 2014 passat and the Bluetooth works perfectly when connected, first connection on car start is a bit pissy because my smartwatch initially demands all Bluetooth, manually connecting to the VW Phone in Bluetooth just reconnects both devices and it works fine for calling, music and voice control.
If these tips don't work, It might sadly be a lack of support within the head unit itself (some are very picky)
@stevob21
You don't have AA and don't understand the problem, so why did you respond? It's not BT related issue.
@matata86
I have the same problem. AA has all needed permissions, but calls still not show on the unit. Interesting is that with my previous phone, P9 - it was working as long phone has Android 6.0. After update to 7.0 - it has stopped working. So it has to be related with Huawei's 7.0 phone manager. Someone with root access should try to freeze phone manager and check it...

Yeah apologies, I must have got this mixed with another thread I was looking at when writing this related to BT issues when connecting where phone calls/address books aren't operable though they work fine after manually initiating the connection.
Same problem here. I can make calls with "ok google, call John Smith" but the notification doesn't show in order for me to end the call. I can end the call from the phone but usually rely on the other party to end the call from their phone.
Text messaging has similar behavior. I can send text messages from AA using voice commands but cannot receive them on screen nor are they read back to me. Again, they do show up on the phone.
All notifications are allowed for the phone and messaging apps. I've also set the battery manager to NOT turn off those apps to save power during screen off. I've tried other phone apps, though I didn't think this should matter but why not try
The deck is a JVC KW-V930BW and the phone is a P10 plus. All other Android Auto features seem to function correctly. I read in a forum for some other phone brand that exhibits the same behavior that it is due to some security feature in that phone and cannot be changed. I wonder if that is the case with the P10 plus?
Anyone else run into this or have a fix? Thanks all!
PS: not interested in rooting.
follow-up
From a thread in another forum, this appears to be an android auto/huawei compatibility issue that they're working on. A recent update seems to have fixed an sms issue so now text messages are read back to me. Regarding the phone notifications, I've mounted the phone using a magnetic vent mount close the steering wheel so I can end calls easily from the phone itself. I'm going to call that "good enough"
It seems to working now with B171, at least in my A6 from 2015 with the latest MMI-Update.

All of a sudden mine is working too, though still on B170. The only thing that changed that I can recall is I updated Google Messages and was prompted whether I wanted to make it my default messaging app to which I agreed.

Note 8 Oreo Bluetooth Paring Problem

Can someone please help?
I had install upgrade my Note 8 to Oreo and was not able to Pair my AKG S30 Bluetooth Speaker. Other Bluetooth devices are able to pair. This AKG Speak was bundle with my Note 8 from Samsung.
- After upgrade I had Factory reset my phone.
-Wipe Cache and partition
-Had try to reset Network and Bluetooth
-Delete all paired Bluetooth and try to pair it with AKG S30 Only.
-Turn off Wifi and Pair
- Have done the April 1 update too.
Not success at all. I am on stock ROM and couldn't find any solution to solve it. Is it a bug from the factory rom?
Can someone please advise. Thank you.

Well I am using deductive reasoning by saying the speaker is bad. If other devices are pairing with the phone without an issue, then the speaker is at fault.

did you do a custom rom and get the april security patch/ i have a note 8 and still no patch. my guess is yours is unlocked. my solution is to turn on NFC and tap back device. thats alternate way to pair bt.
Sorry for late reply. I am on the stock rom with April Security Patch. The Bluetooth is able to pair with my Note 8 when it is in V. 7.1. My NFC is always on.
Hey, any resolution to this? My S30 works perfectly with my Pixel phone, but my Samsung Tab S7 can't find it.
Try removing bt speaker battery or a hard reboot on it if possible.
Check bt settings in Developer options... that may be where the problem originates.
Follow-up if anyone ever searches on AKG S30. The reset for this speaker (undocumented) is hold down the phone and volume up keys together. I have to hard reset every time I pair a new device to the speaker, but once paired I can switch between devices. I was also able to connect it to a Windows PC this way. Super-nice little speaker (great speaker phone) that doubles as an emergency powerbank, but funky behavior.

Bluetooth dropouts when using stereo speakers

This is a long shot.
I have a pair of Bluetooth 4.1 Minirig speakers that can be set in stereo mode. However when in stereo mode one channel experiences dropouts. Running in mono mode is fine.
The issue is with the Nokia 7+'s Bluetooth transmission as when using other Bluetooth enabled devices to power the speakers the issue does not occur.
Anyone else had this issue when connecting stereo speakers or headphones and know of a solution?
I have checked: System > Developer Options > Bluetooth Audio Codecs and tried changing these setting but the changes did not "stick" and problem remained.
Maybe there is an alternative setting somewhere that can be tweaked.
Thanks in advance.

I'm also having this issue: whenever I'm connecting my N7+ onto the car's audio system via Bluetooth I have to change the codecs to the correct one every single time to make it properly work (have sound/audio at all). The settings also don't stick or are not being saved. Also looking for a solution for this, unless an update miraculously fixes it.
Same problem here when connected to my car by bluetooth. Occasionally there is a dropout. This does not happen when my friends connect with their phones (oneplus 5, samsung, allview. or my old lg g4).
Changing the bluetooth audio codecs does not work as it does not remain selected and it switches to default. This, as i understood, happens on android 8 and has been resolved in the Pie beta and should be ok in the final Pie release.
When I raised the issue with the superbly talented nokia tech support they either act surprised as if its an unique issue to you or send you a list of compatible bluetooth protocols. Are we expected to change our cars and speakers to make the phone work?
I had this issue after installing garmin connect. Theres a thread over in the garmin forums (forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/garmin-connect-mobile-application/garmin-connect-mobile-android/1375800-audio-streaming-issues) about it. Also on the nokia forums (community.phones.nokia.com/support/discussions/topics/7000022239/). Seems to affect some phones on 8.1
Anyway, I'm on Pie beta now and the problem has gone away.

Bluetooth earbuds can't connect.

Hello, after 2 and a half years using the phone and not having big issues, just the known (red tint screen etc) and saying that the phone itself still stands good, i now have a problem. I just purchased the Creative outlier air v2 earbuds and i simply can't connect them to Nokia 8. Phone hasn't been tweaked , is stock Android 9 with the last October update. The phone discovers them i pair them, i hear the "pair successful" from the earbuds but they don't connect , instantly they appear in "Saved Earbuds" section in Bluetooth settings and the earbuds flash as they supposed to when they are disconnected from a device.
I tried pretty much everything i can find, Bluetooth on-off, developer options on-off restart, clear bluetooth app cache, clear apps settings even clear WIFI/Bluetooh cache (bye -bye wifi ssids) tried to changed the avrcp bluetooth versions to 1.4-1.6, select aptX codec etc but nothing changed. The disable bluetooth a2dp hardware offload is grayed out so i couldn't changed that, but don't know if it will make any difference.
So is there a thing i can do to make them work, tweak/re install firmware or version of bluetooth ? Or i just hit a situation that the two devices just don't go along.
Just for the record, the earbuds pair and work fine in my laptop and even in 2 Xiaomi redmi 5 i tried to.

IDK if it helps, but Creative recommends to use the SXFI app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.creative.apps.superxfiplayer&hl).
Install this app
Create your profile
Connect the earbuds to your device
Have you tried it already?
Yeah i tried that, creative suggested some methods mentioned it this site, for different Nokia models, but it was basically what i've done already(clear apps, cache, reset phone) I've given up, the only solution is just use different phone...
