"Okay Google" - US English not a supported language? - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

I'm feeling really stupid tonight. I am trying to set up "Okay Google" to trigger Assistant and in Google settings, I'm told that I cannot setup it up as the current language isn't supported. Since I've selected US English I find that hard to understand. Am I missing something really simple? Thanks.

I also had this problem, UK as the primary language, but region was set to Romania. As soon as i set my region to UK, assistant started working.

Text to speech + gReader.

Ok, this is a bit weird and I'm sure that it's just an obscure setting somewhere on my device but...
I use gReader for my RRS/Google reader feeds. In it there is a great little function that uses the text to speech functions from either google or samsung to read aloud articles.
I've tried using TTS from both Google and Samsung - both seem to want to read to me in Spanish. So I go back to my homescreen - menu - settings - language and input - TTS output - I check all the settings make sure everything is set to English and to English UK where possible. I go back to gReader, find a wordy article and hit menu - voice reading - Still wants to read to me in Spanish.
So maybe it's a setting in gReader. I go to the in app settings, sure enough there is a settings page for the TTS. Nothing that suggests the language that will be used, with the exception of a check box asking if it should auto-translate. I uncheck this and try again. Still in Spanish.
Everything on my phone says I'm in England. Anyone know why Google TTS (when used in gReader) reads to me in Spanish?
On a sidenote the Samsung TTS does't seem to offer anything in English - however when used in Smartr alarm (the talking alarm clock app) - both Samsung TTS and Google TTS don't seem to have a problem reading to me in English.
Does anyone know whats going on or is this a case of just mailing the Developer?

[Q] How localization works?

Hi, I'm currently making an app. I'm in Europe, the app will be in english. I'd like to know how Google Play deals with this, I want it to appear worldwide. What do I have to do for this? I'm afraid that Google will make my app appear for my country only.
You can choose which country you want the app to appear and you can also use a translator if you want to translate the app to different languages.

Click to collapse
Thanks for the info
If you do not provide a language for a country, the default version of your app description will be used. You can set the default language to whichever language you want, but english is of course the most common choice.
Google Play will however auto translate your app description to other languages, but that usually goes really badly. So, I'd consider making localised app descriptions for the "big" languages at least. So you don't have to trust Googles auto translate, because I don't think you can turn it off... unless I am mistaken? I sure haven't found a way to.

Missing 'Google Assistant Routine' in the Google Clock app alarm tab

Hello
I am from Europe, Switzerland, and i have a Pixel 5 ordered from Germany.
While my Pixel 2 XL since a long time shows 'Google Assistant Routine' in the Google Clock app alarm tab, on my Pixel 5 this is missing.
I googled about this problem, but it seems nobody has this issue. I set up system and assistant language to English (US) but without luck.
Okay, i am one of the first owning this new phone and probably not many use this feature, but i am sure i am not the only one with this issue.
Any ideas how to activate this?
It's there on my Pixel 5. Do you have any routines available? Check in assistant settings -> routines (Abläufe).
Solved
yes, all standard routines inside assistant for the voice commands are available.
I have found the solution.
I set up system and assistant language to English (US) now for some hours. The first time i changed this only for 10 minutes.
After i was going back to system language German and it was still available.
So, i have now back this great feature. :good:
Bye.

Android auto reads whatsapp only in english

From time ago when i receive a Whatsapp, Telegram msg while i'm in Android Auto and touch to hear it the Assistant reads it in English (I'm Spanish)
It's ridiculous and difficult to understand spanish messages readed like english...
Any way to solve this?
I'm from Brazil and solved it this way:
(probably should work for you, but with Spanish instead of Brazilian Portuguese)
1. Change your Android language to English (Config > Sistema > Idioma e Entrada)
2. Restart your smartphone
3. Start the Google app > Settings > Voice, select Spanish
4. In your car ask for a message to be read (should already be read in Spanish)
5. Now you can set your Android language back to Spanish
From what I've read (not tested) if the phone is restarted you'll have to do everything again.
I'll try tomorrow. Regards
It is already solved with the latest GOOGLE update
Not for me (Dutch, living in the Netherlands); I use older Google version (Google_v11.19.13.21.arm_apkpure.com.apk), works fine in Dutch - newest Google version in play store still heavy (well funny!) English accent..
For me (Dutch, Belgium) it is also solved with the latest Google version
If your language not in assistant, switch back to google now. Then AA works like with old Google version.
[REQUEST] Module to Disable Google Assistant
Now that the US Virgin Island trick to avoid Google Assistant has been fixed, a module that disables Google Assistant will really help us who doesn't like it and want to use Now On Tap. Thanks!

Like in phone google assistant on third-party hardware

Hey.
Here's the current situation. Google Assistant in Poland works on phones (in the Polish language) but there's no support for the Polish language in any google devices like google nests, Lenovo, etc.
Is it possible to get some devices rooted and get Google Assistant running in the Polish language?
