Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F/DS 64gb doesn't receive any updates in UK - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi All, I really need some help. First post. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F/DualSim from eBay in mint condition for £285 a few months back. Works perfectly. Waited until end of March but no Android 9 One UI update. Realised I hadn't got ANY updates what so ever since I got it. Contacted Samsung and they say because it is from a different region it can't be updated in the UK. I find this extremely unfair. I use a Blackberry Key2 as my main phone and Note 8 as a second phone which I don't always carry. Use it more to surf and watch videos with once I get home.
I have never rooted or Odined or anything else before so am not too excited about any of that stuff. I just need the simplest tutorial there is to get my phone to update and to continue to update if that is possible. I am currently on Android Oreo 8.0 and security patch August 2018!
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S I have no idea which region it's from but the serial number is R58J944Z7HT

Dial *#1234# in phone dialer. Look at the CSC line and look for "OXM" in the line eg. N950F"OXM"5CSA2. If you see that then:
Read page 1:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3677072
To find your CSC:
You can go to system settings/ about phone/software information/ service providers SW ver. (Look for something like this example TPA/TPA/XEU , should be last line in that section. Yours might be different but it should be in this format CSC/CSC/CSC .)
2nd spot TPA is the your carrier CSC (set by your sim card.)
3rd Spot XEU is where your phone is from.
So look at the second spot for your CSC code.
So know you have the:
Model of note 8 : SM-N950F or SM-N950F/DS (doesn't matter firmware is for both phones.)
The multi-CSC firmware OXM
And your CSC code.
Now you have 3 choices:
1) Connect phone to PC and use smart switch to update phone (if there is one for your csc). This will keep data intacted!
2) You can use samfirm.exe on PC to download the firmware for your model phone and CSC and use the latest Odin to update.
Use "Home-CSC" file to keep data intacted!
Warning DO NOT use "csc" file this DELETE DATA! (Or you
want to delete data.)
3) Use samfirm.exe to download the firmware for any CSC that's in that multi-CSC OXM that's listed in that thread I posted and latest Odin.
Use "Home-CSC" file to keep data intacted! This will keep
your CSC the same!
Warning DO NOT use "csc" file this DELETE DATA! (Or you
want to delete data.)
Now you might need to Odin everytime the new update or you might be lucky and you'll get the OTA.
I have the N950F in Canada and I get OTA update here, maybe because my 3 csc code is XEU/XEU/XEU(your will be different! )(because the multi-CSC oxm doesn't support my carrier csc so it stays default XEU/XEU/XEU. )
Your case maybe different so I would get used to using Samfirm.exe and Odin to update your phone.
Or you can always wait and see if you get the OTA, your choice!
If you don't have the OXM or do you can go to
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950F/
To look what country the CSC belongs to (CSC in this case is the 3rd spot in this eg. XEU/XEU/XEU)
Eg XEU is UK/Ireland
XSG is United Arab Emirates

Hi,
I had exactly the same issue; bought a Note 8 on ebay last year (also in mint condition) - it's a Dual SIM model also. But mine had not had a security update since March 2018. Like you I contacted Samsung support and was told that there isn't anything they can do. One suggestion was to send the phone to its country of origin so that it can pick up security updates OTA - not really an option for me...
I bit the bullet today and followed the procedure set out by BluePhnx. The whole process took about 1 hour. I was taking my time because I have never attempted anything similar before. Everything worked great and I now have Android Pie with Samsung One UI More importantly the security version is March 2019. All my apps and data are intact and S-Pen continues to work great.
Thanks BluePhnx for the guide.
Best,
TB

[Q] Camera Buttons disappeared after update to 4.3

Hello,
I just got my update for my S3 from 4.1.2 to 4.3, after I updated the system. Three things started to happen:
1. The Samsung Email application has disappeared and I cannot find it all in the Applications Manager, I also looked into the Google PlayStore and didn't find it.
2. When I open the Camera to take a picture I can't find any shortcuts to the camera buttons at all, and as a result I can't take any photos.
3. The mobile crashes a lot.
Because of these I backed up my data and did a hard reset. After that I ran my new fresh installation, but I found that the first two problems still exist in the new installation.
So How can I solve these problems? Please advice.
my guess is that something happened during update...something went wrong...even if the update is from samsung and is tested it can fail....
i suggest a clean install....get your contacts, photos, all data you want and save it...after that get the right firmware from HERE(it's the official samsung site)...
don't do with back-up/restore...get manually data you want to be saved.

My current problem now, I am not familiar with the firmware upgrade by myself. I am confused which firmware I should download and use?
Because my mobile is not tighten to any operator,I bought it from the middle east, but I can't find my country in the list of the firmwares.
Also I know if I did the manual firmware, I won't get any updates later for my mobile. And I lose the warranty, correct or not?
These are my current mobile info:
Model: GT-I9300
BaseBand version: I9300XXUGNA8
Kernal Version: 3.0.31-2454463
[email protected]#1
Tue Feb 25 15:25:04 KST 2014
Build Number: JSS15J.I9300XXUGNB6
PDA: I9300XXUGNB6
CSC: I9300OJVGNB3
AP: I9300XXUGNB6
CP: I9300XXUGNA8
if you can't find your country....get the one that is next to you...
in what country do you live in?
for example: now i got on the phone firmware from other mobile operator than the one i got the phone...got the firmware from Cosmote and bought phone from Orange(those are companies in my country)...it will not lock the phone on a specific network....no firmware can..
and NO...you will not lose warranty...as long as you flash firmware from samfirmware your device will still have Official status in download(odin) mode....it will increase flash counter(but that doesn't matter for warranty)...for them matters the Knox Counter...and NO...those firmware won't trip it...it will still be 0x0.
as for the updates...i check manually....when the 4.4.2 will come out(and it will) i will do it manually(to enjoy the update fully)

Thanks for your reply, it releaves me. I bought the mobile from Syria, and currently I live in Sweden.
I checked on sammobile as you told me, and it seems that Saudia has the same PDA and CSC of my mobile and the date is April. So should I proceed with this firmware?
Does BaseBand version has anything to do with firmware selection?
Also I read that from the Build Number you can know the name of the country, but I was not able to figure out the name of the country my mobile was directed to, as I told you I bought it from Syria, but the imported somewhere else. So do you have an idea about how to get the country from the Build Number?
All the information for PDA and CSC are provided in the previous reply.
DOWNLOAD 4.3 - has Kies support.
DOWNLOAD 4.1.2
here is the right firmware for your phone....is not branded to any network...this is all in one package...flash with Odin 3.09 as AP....it has CSC in it...
even if you got the phone from Syria should change the CSC for the country you use it in...it has network frequency stuff in it...
and yes you could read that code to find out from where the firmware is and when it was created

Note 9 SM-N960F/DS Firmware problem.

I have a Note 9 SM-N960F/DS model. I bought it from KSA (Saudi Arabia). The phone came with Android Pie (9) out of the box.
Unfortunately my friend rooted my phone and now i am running on "N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA/N960FXXU3ASF1" version with "Security patch level: 1 June 2019". I am unable to use my Samsung account and all the security features (finger print, Ratina scanner, Face recognition etc).
When i switch back to original firmware i.e
PDA N960FXXU3CSG1
CSC N960FOXM3CSG1
i got all the features functioning but my SIM card shows "Emergency calls only".
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, My friend took my phone and told me that he will make it compliant with our local network and make it approved from the Telecommunication authority.
He has downgraded the phone with older firmware version i.e N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA,N960FXXU3ASF1. The security patch level is 1 June 2019
I have checked the Knox e-fuse which is not tripped which means its an official ROM and not altered.
Now, i have the latest firmware version downloaded i.e N960FXXS3CSG1 but when i try to install it in my phone it does not recognize my SIM card and phone is in "Emergency calls Only" state.

not sure how you check knox but if he really rooted then its too late and knox cannot state cant be reverted.
typically checking via software is not a good method . going to download mode and checking warranty state 0x0 means is not tripped. anything different means it been tripped/blown.
anyways that dosen't make you phone have no signal though.
i suspect he screwed up the twrp recovery flash procedure for twrp and botched the flash back to stock via odin.
read up on odin and how to use it. get latest version.(search and read)
read up so on how to get latest firmware for your phone and which csc your carrier is so that you can download the correct firmware and have best results for your sim carrier.( in doubt try BTU csc firmware)(but search and read about the subject of phone types firmwares and CSC)
also the firmwares your quoted seem old. not sure why you ended up using it but you should get one that is from july.
E.G.:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N960F/BTU/
(get the most recent! july 25th)( u can dl odin from there too)
on your PC, install samsung android drivers or simply install samsung smart switch. it will install the necessary components.
in it self smart switch can flash firmware automatically for your device. so you might want to try it first.
if you go towards the odin flash route and found the correct firmware or want to try BTU multi csc as suggested above:
put phone in download mode and unzip on PC firmware and flash with odin BL,AP,CP and CSC. But for csc choose csc.md5 instead of home_csc.md5
(be patient while AP is being checked before adding cp and csc)
edit: details steps on odin flashing procedure below

last but not least don't listen to your friend or let him close to your phone again. reading and searching on xda is much better. everything has been already asked. you just need to search for it.

I haven't try SmartSwitch for N9 but worth to try as it should be able to detect proper csc for your phone.
Else find the latest firmware for your phone with Frija/Samfirm then flash with odin.

well may be your friend tried to change IMEI of phone which is illegal in any country. Match your IMEI with box by dialing *#06#, if IMEI are same then no need to worry. you need to register your phone IMEI with PTA by paying tax. after paying tax they will whitelist the IMEI of your phone and you will be able to make calls.
just for information, my note 9 is also brought from Saudi Arabia, but at that time one device was free, so i got my phone registered by providing my travel details to PTA and they whitelisted my phone.
Please guide me solution.

Questions regarding my Galaxy Note 8

Hello!
A few days ago i purchased a "new" galaxy note 8 on ebay. the offer said that it would be a N950F. So does it say in the settings.
After setting up the phone I tried to update the phone to the newest firmware via the OTA option in the settings.
Just to see the following message
"Your current software version isn't supported. visit a service center."
Current version: n950fxxu4dsd1/n9500zzh4dsd/n950u5dsd3
Security patch level: March 1, 2019
So I tried to flash a newer stock firmware via odin which didn't work either cause it would either get stuck while initializing or fail after establishing a connection.
I dug a bit deeper and installed PHONE INFO SAM from the playstore to see what's up with this phone.
This is what I found out so far:
BL: N950USQU7DSK3
PDA: N950FXXU4DSD1
CSC: N9500ZZH4DSD1
On top of everything it says in the settings that the phone is a SM-N950F which is a european version of the phone which uses an exynos processor.
But this phone according to Phone Info Sam is a SM-N9500 which uses the msm8998 wich is the snapdragon 835.
So the settings say it is a N950F but in reality it is a N9500.
What does this all mean and what should I do with this phone?
Get a refund?
Can i change the csc somehow and flash a european firmware?
Try changing just the csc with odin. See if that works. Then check for the update. Hope that helps.
I'd return it. As you may have been sold a frankenstein unit made with miss match Note 8 parts.

Return the phone ASAP it's not "new" it's using a bunch of random different hardware parts from several different phones and you'll never be able to update it or anything else. Not worth it.

Changing the CSC unfortunately won't help anything because the phone was put together using a bunch of different parts from a few different phones hardware parts. They'll never be able to flash any firmware updates or anything else.
Mr Mike is spot on. This is why if I buy from Ebay I ask seller to send pics of about phone. Send that Frankenstein thing back.

If your BL is N950U then its a US model phone. The other stuff was just able to be flashed because of my root method on the N950U so thats why pda and csc don’t match. The phone can be flashed with any V7 US firmware. Then you can root from there or whatever you want

Some questions regarding csc

So, I've been researching about the subject, specifically for the s20 fe 4g snapdragon (G780G), but the there's information all over the place.
I've got a ZTO phone, unbranded, and I wanted to change it to BTB, since it's been kind of a joke that until now it didn't got the oneui 5.0 update, meanwhile some are getting january security patch.
So I wanted to switch my csc to get OTA from a region which gets faster updates, while not unlocking the bootloader.
The thing is, both are in different multi csc, OWO and OMX respectively. So dial pad method doesn't work.
I've checked samkey website, but they don't support South American phones, in other words, mine.
So through research, I didn't found a conclusion, so I'm asking here if someone ever tried.
Does full firmware install, in my case BTB files, using home csc file, which I'm aware will wipe the phone, will change the csc and enable ota updates? Or is the s20 fe one of those models which this method doesn't work anymore?
Any insight on the subject is welcome, so thank you for reading till here.
Yes, it will work. I also got a ZTO phone, which I've changed to Russia's CSC, and everything worked fine. But if you're trying to update to OneUI 5, you can download the firmware from the TPA csc, which is multi region (OWO), so your phone will be in OneUI 5 but will be recognized under the ZTO csc, with future OTA updates already enabled.
I actually went through it before yesterday. I guess I'll leave my experience just in case someone ends in this thread looking for something similar.
As a tldr, it indeed worked, as mateushonorato, which I thank for taking the time to share his experience, shared.
In my experience, I wanted to keep OTA working, so I went with the 1st firmware available of the region I wanted to flash, G780GXXU3DVK5 was the PDA, and the BTU was the CSC.
I ended up using Samfw site and tools for everything.
So since I wanted to change my multi region, it ended wiping the data as expected. But the moment the rom patching process ended, I saw that something was weird, cause it I was greeted by cyrillic text. I went through the initial process and indeed confirmed patching did change my muilti region for OWO to OMX. But I wasn't in BTU, but on SEK. Just to be 100% sure, I enabled dev tools and checked through sawfw tool my CSC list, and it was indeed OXM.
Afterwards I checked OTA to see if it was working, and it immediately caught that it had an update avaliable.
Being Honest, I could've finished here, but having came this far, I wouldn't settle on compromise. So I just, once again, used samfw tool to change my CSC to BTU, and I did a factory reset using the automation through the tool.
After the process got done, I got it to BTU. I've seen people having problems with getting the right CSC in those cases, but my was on the first try.
After that the usual, set up the phone, and check for OTA, which was working, and just to be sure, I went through both updates, G780GXXS3DVL1 and the current G780GXXS3DWA3.
So far, seems everything is working as it should, on the CSC tab it still mentions ZTO, but I think it's supposed to be this way, I'm not entirely sure tbh. I was with the impression my phone wasn't fast charging at first, but after looking into the system and it says it was fast charging, and looking at my brother's s20fe exynos model, they are both charging on the same speed, even after interchanging the chargers, I think it was prolly just my impression.
Anyway, I hope that this is of some help to anyone in looking, for whichever reason, into CSC change while maintain OTA updates. Just always keep in mind this was my own experience, using a G780G model phone.

S20FE Not Updating since OneUi 3 and Android 11

Hello all.
My S20FE (SM-G780F) has not updated from OneUi 3 and Android 11. It always says that I'm using the latest software. I've tried factory resetting the phone and using Smart Switch to no avail.
I'm in the UK. Never lived anywhere else. I reside here permanently. It's where I bought my phone brand new.
I checked the service provider software version and it says ZT0/ZTO,ZTO/EUX . However, when I use the dialler method to check the same information it says the CSC is BTL3.
I researched and ZTO seems to refer to Brazil. I've never been to Brazil or anywhere in that vicinity so I don't know why it says ZTO as the service provider information.
Could this be why I'm having issues updating? If the phone thinks it's Brazilian then it would stop me updating if I'm in the UK? Is that correct?
Samsung suggested I send it to them to flash the drive but they require a proof of purchase and as I bought the phone over 2 years ago I can't for the life of me find the original order email.
Just for clarification the phone has never been rooted or modded and all software etc is "official." I've looked into flashing the software with Odin. Would I need ro download the update file for the CSC my phone says it is or for the CSC it should be? Do I only download the latest update or would I have to stack them and download all the previous ones my phone missed too?
Please help before I tear my hair out.
flashing the phone yourself with Odin is very easy, there are dozens of YouTube vids to get an idea from. actually downloading the firmware is more difficult.
whoever sold you the phone is who you should be angry at, it obviously wasn't intended for use here. let me know if you want help flashing!
Same thing happened to my Mom's phone (a Galaxy A series device).
Use this guide and manually flash the latest firmware.
