Cross Flashing Tmobile firmware to ATT Note 3 SM-N900A - Galaxy Note 3 Developer Discussion [Developers Onl

Hi Everyone, If this is the wrong place to post this plz MODERATORS move it to correct place..
Ok so we all know what safestrap is, and that it's not TWRP really...
We also know that the bootloader on the SM-N900A isn't unlockable...
So I usually develop stuff for LG devices, but I got hands on an old Note 3 from At&t and want to
find a way to get past the limitations of Safestrap and the roms are all mostly lollipop K.K or J.B based.
without the bootloader unlocked we can't change the kernel away from stock...
Well I've been reading some things in reddit about S8 and S8+ etc.
and supposedly they have patched Odin not to check model numbers etc.
same with S9 see here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200
and so what I'm thinking is...
The modded/patched Odin has the model-ID and SHA hash check disabled, therefore allowing you to flash an unbranded "U1" firmware onto a branded "U" phone and vice versa.
As of now this works on most US Qualcom (QC) models, but an increasing number of international Exynos (EX) models now include a new RMM security which prevents this kind of cross-flashing unless you first disable the RMM, by flashing an RMM-Disabler package through TWRP.

if we use this method to flash the tmobile branded firmware for the note 3 will we then be able to simply boot to TWRP This device has no fastboot...
If this seems like a really bad stupid Idea please say so and explain exactly why.
If this seems like it might work please explain how and why.
If you have tried this please let me know what the outcome was.
Thanks for reading
just looking for more input before I FRY a thousand dollar phone
old as it is it's still nice.

you may be correct, but I just wanted experienced dev's to talk to about this and If I post on at&t specific threads, I'll likely have to tell a bunch of noobs that NO i haven't tried it yet { about to } and that no this isn't yet a bootloader unlock.
I wanted to discuss this with seasoned Devs such as @jcase

Any thoughts?
anyone?

Have a look almost nil Dev action on this section since day one .

Well It's turned to a dead end, and I no longer believe it possible.
I can confirm flashing the modem.bin to modem partition resulted in soft-brick
so i'm scared to try flashing the boot aboot sbl etc.
I'm now looking for a way to possibly boot a modified second
boot.img through a boot hijack, to enable me to use something like EFIdroid to boot custom roms...

[Q] Bootloader Unlock Official 4.3 Question

Since we got the new official 4.3 update, that means we got a new bootloader with the update right? If so, does anyone know if anyone has tried to get this unlocked even though we had no success with 4.2.2? I don't know if I can help get it done or not cause I don't have much background with actually unlocking it but I'm willing to help if possible. :fingers-crossed: Might run into problems with KNOX though.. idk.

Hello,
I bought an unlocked Samsung S4 Active I537 from ATT, but I use it in Canada.
I have tried to use Goomanager, TWRP manager, safestrap, quickboot; but the phone goes back to the normal bootloader.
When I try to install a ROM from my SD card (by normal bootloader) it does not do anything at all; just stays on the same screen for a minute then reboots normally.
I am guessing the bootloader isnt unlocked.
What tips you got?
Thanks!

The bootloader is still locked and currently there's nothing you can do about it. If you want to follow the progress read through this thread.
I learned that the hard way

In advance: sorry to sound bitter; but wasn't fun how useless can be a device with a locked bootloader.
So the google apps stopped working and the whole thing is pretty much gone to hell/
IF samsung hadnt locked it so good (in a non-compliment kind of way) I could just install a new ROM and done, even better than with their weird touch wiz. But they locked it well so the phone is pretty much an average control remote in present time.
All samsung devices are locked like this one?
or that's their only garbage version ?
If that's the way they roll... no more Samsung phones ever for me.
There is a reason I stopped buying apple stuff... I dont like buying a device that is limited not because of its hardware, but because of the useless things a brand adds to make it useless. (like locking the bootloader)
Anyways... I am considering buying another phone for now.:silly:

The device is far from useless, you can still root and flash custom ROMs, just not CM or AOSP based ROMs. I've posted all the stock ROMs and instructions on how to flash them, so if you do mess up your phone you can always start from scratch.
To answer your question about all Samsung phones, pretty much all Samsung phones from the GS3 an later that were sold by AT&T and Verizon have locked bootloaders. Nearly all the international versions as well as T-Mobile versions are sold with an unlocked bootloader, so you don't necessarily need to boycott Samsung, you just need to be more careful when purchasing a Samsung phone in the future.

Hey there
Where did you post these ways of re installing all?
I saw many posts around here about reinstalling but I couldnt move on after they required the Samsung to do something through the bootloader.
Also there was a post to uninstall using Odin, but the post had missing files so couldnt do it.
Keep me posted!

[Q&A] [DOG1-N910T/T3] TEKXvirgin N4 URv0 > 8/11 STOCK ODEX ROM/ LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEK
Q&A for [DOG1-N910T/T3] TEKXvirgin N4 URv0 > 8/11 STOCK ODEX ROM/ LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEKHDway!
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [DOG1-N910T/T3] TEKXvirgin N4 URv0 > 8/11 STOCK ODEX ROM/ LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEKHDway!. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
TEKHD! Thank you!
TEKHD ! Thank you so much! Finally I feel like my Note 4 is as smooth as the iphone UI now. 5.1 completely changed the feeling like an ealier poster mentioned earlier. I can't wait to see how smooth this runs with some tweaks / debloat.
For the Record : This is the FIRST rom to date I've ran on my note 4 on lollipop that actually goes to the task switcher after hitting the button, not 2 seconds later.
Running great so far on my n910t.
1) Backed up
2) flashed COG2 using Odin to update baseband
3) phone apps were crashing on reboot, went back to recovery, wiped per instructions in first post and then restored the second posted file.
4) Reboot to a brand new feeling Note 4
TEK HD Thanks again !
Has anyone on an N910T gone from this 5.1.1 ROM back to COG2? I Odined back but got a flurry of force closes that made it impossible to use the phone. NFC was one of the things constantly force closing... maybe because something to do with the phone thinking it became an N910T3?
Anyway, I did not wipe data after Odining because I usually don't have issues. Anyone know how to go back to COG2? I backed up my data and will try again with data wiped...
BTW, this ROM is very nice, fast and fluid, and indeed recent apps is much quicker. But I just want VoLTE and WiFi calling to work. Thanks in advance!
Edit: i see the note about wiping data when UPDATING to COG2, from COD6 or whatever, but when i did that before, i had no force close issues at all. so i was surprised that i had it when reverting from DOG1. anyway, i guess i may have to wipe if i wanna revert.... will try

Rooting roms, flashing roms or firmwares have nothing to do with unlocking the phone.
Whether the phone is locked or unlocked either way you can flash roms, firmwares or
anything else and it has no effect on the locked or unlocked status of your phone.
p.s. rooting or flashing roms will not unlock or lock your phone.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

That's true, but to be fair, there are two kinds of "locked".
Bootloaders can be locked or unlocked, usually depending on the carrier or manufacturer. The locked bootloader on AT&T's SM-910A is why only temporary root is available (and why I'm running a SM-910T on AT&T's network). T-Mobile Note4s have unlocked bootloaders, allowing different kernels, ROMs, and rooting. As far as I know, the only way to change the bootloader locked state is if the carrier or manufacturer allows it. I had an ASUS Transformer 2 that originally had a locked bootloader. After some complaining from XDA members and others, ASUS released a patch that unlocked the bootloader and I think voided the warranty. Anyway, unlocked bootloader doesn't mean you can swap in a foreign or prepaid SIM and have it work. That comes with the other kind of locking.
The carrier/SIM locking is completely separate from bootloaders. You can be stock, unrooted, etc and still have your phone unlocked to accept non-carrier SIMs. I purchased a carrier/SIM unlocked 910T to use on AT&T's network, but I could also take it to Europe and use a prepaid SIM. The carriers will unlock for free as long as the phone is fully paid for. Other online services don't care if the phone is paid for yet, but charge $30 or so I think. Never used them, so I can't comment specifically. I have ALWAYS unlocked by phones before selling them on Swappa because it tends to increase the value a bit.

There are a lot more than just two type of locks in our phones.
However your original post only mentioned carrier sim unlocking so my
reply had nothing in it about any other kind of locking or unlocking.

So were you successful? I see no reply to your question or followup from you.
On a similar note: I'm wondering if I have a TWRP backup of a 4.4.4 ROM, and a TWRP backup of this one, if I can just switch back and forth with a restore or whichever one.
Yeah the reason I bought the tmobile version was for the unlocked bootloader. I just didn't know if there was a way to unlock it via Odin or anything. I ended up getting it unlocked by imeifix.com. $15 and 15 minutes later, highly satisfied with their service.
Files corrupted?
i tried downloading both files and both were corrupted when i used Winrar to unzip, also downloaded 7zip and nothing. What could be wrong?

hi sorry i forgot to update, but the data wipe did work. as for your nandroids, it's possible you may run into the same issue with the data, and also i think those two ROMs need different bootloaders and basebands, so you would have to change those as well when going back and forth.
I'm confused with this new 910T/910T3 nandroid backups. So we run these and it turns the software of our 910T into 910T3? And the DOG1 firmware? What's the advantage of this over running the tekxodus v3.3 with 5.1.1 and COG2? This new 3.3 is just so awesome

Using the firmware of a differnt country/ model number? G925A to G920F

Hi, i wish i could figure this out on my own and not trouble anyone but i just i cant. I've already soft bricked the phone trying, though I've fixed that now and its back to normal.
What i am trying to do is put The UK H3G network firmware (SM-G920F) on to my American ATT phone (G925A). The reason is, i'm in the UK on the 3 network so it would be nice if the phone just worked as it should do if i had bought it here. I cant update it OTA and the phone seems to think its American in general.
Is this even possible? Im using Odin3. I downloaded the g920f firmware from sammobile. It was just one file, i put it into the AP section, i assume that's right? It didn't work though, a few different errors resulting in fails and nice soft brick at the end. The files i used to un-brick the phone had AP,CP,BL and CSC files. Sorry for my ignorance but do i need these 4 files to achieve what i want?
Well id be very grateful of any help or advice in this.
You cannot use firmware for a different version of the phone. Trying so can end in a hardbrick

The US AT&T and VZW branded devices have locked bootloaders. The international versions (which I would imagine is what your local cellular guy is familiar with, being in the UK) are somewhat more, ummm, flexible on what software they can run. I would guess (but don't know for sure) that you could probably recover with Odin if you bricked in attempting what you want to try.

Hey thanks, what kind of file would i need to try it though? I downloaded the at&T firmware from somewhere that matched the model number and it had 4 files, ap,bl,csc and another one, im not sure what they do individually, but they worked. When i looked up the uk firmware, it only had an ap file, which didn't work using odin, i got a fail. Well i think it's just what you flash. For example, messing up the kernal will hardbrick but some thinks like AP and csc i think are fine to flash but may not work

been gone a while just need some info

so I recently dug my s4A i537
out of a box, I looked around a bit but found no relevant information
am I right to assume that this variant of the s4 still has an unlockable Bootloader / no custom recovery / limited roms correct?

Correct, the bootloader is still locked. However, within the last couple weeks a Super WizCyan Rom was made specifically for the i537. You should be able to find it in the Dev section. There's one other Rom for the i537, but the name escapes me at the moment. Even the i9295 is hurting for development as @spegelius has had to stop development. Hopefully somebody else can pick up where he left off, otherwise I fear I may have to start looking for a new phone.
The other ROM is called sick ROM, in the development section.

I'll try, probably needs to be done with Cygwin, I can't promise anything though. I assume I'll do it with the stock, deodexed, rooted version of OC7, unless anyone has any objections?
Update: I'm going to need a cache.img.ext4 somehow. I think I can pull it with adb, but again, I can't promise for sure. Also I'll probably have to do this much later. That said, it looks promising. Also if anyone is reading this and knows how, can you pull the pit file too? I'm thinking about making two versions, a no-wipe pre-rooted deodexed firmware, and maybe also one that will wipe (in case you mess up doing something). I'm pretty sure the wipe one will require a pit file, and I don't know if that one can be pre-rooted

Can Not Find .kdz file for LG V40 ATT Android 10! Crossflashing has not worked for me

Greetings Community,
In the last few years, I have fallen in love with LG phones. There are many reasons for this that I do not have time to list. I Originally purchased an LG V30 and loved it. But then a few issues emerged such as the headphone jack not working, the charge port being extremely finicky, it not having been officially updated to Android 10 etc.
So, I purchased a GSM unlocked LG V40. What I didn't know about this phone was it was an AT&T GSM unlocked phone that (like other AT&T android devices) does not receive any updates at all unless it is connected through the AT&T network (which I confirmed through much research and contacting AT&T). I then thought it would be as easy as flashing the factory firmware on the device, but oh no; it was no where close to being that easy. After much difficulty with getting the correct and current DLL to work with LGUP, I then went to find the correct kdz file for this device. Only then I found that the android 10 kdz file for the AT&T V405UA was nowhere to be found. After this, I decided to try to flash the Verizon variant for the V405UA only to find the error for crossdl from ATT>VZW.
So this is what I am asking/wondering:
Is it possible that anyone can find the Android 10 kdz file for the AT&T V405UA?
Is there another way to flash a factory Android 10 firmware/os to this phone?
Is there a way to crossflash the VZW version to an ATT phone?
What my phone is currently running:
Android version: 9 (Pie)
Android security patch Level: January 1st, 2020
Software version: V405UA20y
Model #: LM-V405UA
I am most definitely a noob compared to most people on here so go easy on me
No AT&T kdz? That's because it's one of the carriers that doesn't make them available, to anyone, anywhere, at anytime.
Follow this thread to find a backup someone made from qfil. But, there's a number of things one has to know before attempting to flash that backup;
1) You need to install / get to know how to use Qualcomms qfil, there's a specific thread to read about that.
2) There are some partitions (they are in that backup) that YOU ShOULD NOT flash, because they contain imei and serial number.
3) Using qfil to restore a backup is very time consuming, it does have options to load with a rawprogram*.xml, if you have them, but the above backup does not.
4) The V40, in case u may not know, is a 'dual slot' phone. That makes it more complicated to deal with than prior phones.
You don't have to worry about being a 'noob'. No one cares about that. But, you'll find that people will ignore you if you ask questions that are already obviously answered in the threads, or you obviously don't even bother to do a google search to answer your question first.
If you put in the effort, but still find yourself stuck, people will help. If you put in virtually no effort and scream for help, people will recognize that 'entitled' behavior and ignore your questions.
good luck.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I will certainly look into this thread. I have done quite a bit of research on this but was unable to find anything (mostly because I don't think I looked up the right thing ?) maybe you could point me in the right direction to some more search terms or threads to take a look at. Thanks!

Well, there's only three major forums in this group. Question and answers, ROMs, guides. Look in those for topics that have the most comments, start reading.

Ok, I will work on that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah there is not a kdz for att to my knowledge but your best bet is unlock the bootloader (search the forums) and flash the US 20A unlocked pie firmware and flash a android 10 based rom via twrp. (Again search the forum its all readily available)

Hey Sorry I forgot to update you guys on what ended up happening, I found someone who was on AT&T but didn't end up having enough time to have AT&T push the update to the phone. So, I finally just decided to return the device, as it was too much of a hassle. Thanks for all your guys' help.
I see you no longer have the phone but:
Here is your answer to cross flashing to another KDZ. I just did it today on the very same phone that had the very same issue when is came to cross flashing the second time.
https://mylgphones.com/how-to-flash-stock-pie-kdz-firmware-on-lg-v40-thinq-with-lgup.html?amp
These instructions got me where I needed to be with ease. It seems that some KDZ files cross flash easy but cross flashing from them is difficult as I have tried everything from everywhere.
Looking at the CMD line your com port# may be different. and of course your KDZ file may be different also...
====================================================
I assumed that LG made one V40 and each carrier had a different rom, which would listen to their bands only, to save power.
AT&T has ended all their good plans and has focused on the $30 per month and up, which is 3x to 4x more than I was paying for family and employee phone plans with usable but limited data.
So, I want to flash my 4 lg v40 att phones to T-mobile, since the att firmware does not listen to band 71, which is the best band to have in most situations.
I learned how to use lgup and roms. I assumed that you should be able to just flash any att v40 with a v40 tmo rom. However, I get a cross error. More research led me to qfil files and tools that make building your own Linux look like an afternoon job.

Ya, thanks guys for the help. I ended up getting a used OnePlus 7T and have been very happy with it. I also know that when it stops receiving official updates, I will be able to keep on updating it for a while through this amazing community and their custom ROMs.
