First off I'm on oreo as I hate pie it sucks cant use substratum or full immervise mode among many many other things but This is really pissing me off I hate the update version of always on disaply it don't move around and there is no transition effects on the upded version,so I went into developer mode turned off auto update, went to play store turned off auto update.dowloaded the paid version of bk package disabler from play store and disabled all these things that seem to be related to updates and after about 5 days I will notice the always on display has updated to the latest version as the clock wont move then i check the version and it says im in the latesd version . Bk is working as since I installed it I'm not getting the nasty promt in the status bar every day reminding me to update to that garbage android pie.please help me guys every 5 days I have to go into the always on display and downgrade it by remove all updates and sending it back to stock.i can't stand having to do that and losing my set up of clock style ,colour and time squdule.
Experts please chime in what am i missing is there something else i need to disable to stop the aod thanks

For one, you could just install the APK of the older version of Aod. Then you can wipe data and cache of the system Aod. Then install the AOD apk and then use it. As the apk wont be updated. Make sure to reset the aod application by removing all updates.

Did you disable galaxy apps as well?

You can't just download the app and install it .it says app not installed everyone I try to install the v3.2 apk or any version apk for the always on display
So that idea don't work can you tell me what else I need to disable in the bk package app to stop this updating on it's own?

You can't just install the apk .it says app not installed

Go into Galaxy Store, turn off Auto Update apps and then Disable Galaxy Store. Try that.

I've never even knew there was a galaxy store
You my friend may have fixed this nasty issue for me Is the galaxy store the thing that has been updating my always on display to the latest version that is broken?

[TIPS] Disable Nexus 7 OTA/Upgrade Nag

I have been trying to research a way to stop my Nexus 7 wifi grouper from constantly nagging me to upgrade to JellyBean 4.3. I find 4.3 rather underwhelming and the problems it has caused with flash crashing Dolphin or Xscope browsers almost constantly has left me no choice but to roll back to 4.2.2.
Now that I am content to stay with 4.2.2 I wanted to stop the constant upgrade notification and the process to do so isnt clearly laid out anywhere across many fragmented threads about it.
Here is how I disabled the upgrade prompt on the Nexus 7 grouper wifi 4.2.2 - You of course need to be rooted.
Get Autorun Manager from the market - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en or http://goo.gl/xdLmO
Launch Autorun Manager, select Advanced mode.
Click the wrench, check off Show system entries and Enable system app disable.
Click the refresh icon to reload the process list.
Search for "systemupdate" and open the Google Services Framework entry.
Uncheck com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver
Reboot your tablet and be nag free.
I am not certain at this point if this disables market app update notifications but I would rather manually check for app updates than be constantly nagged to upgrade android.
Edit - Market update notifications for apps is functioning normally.
Enjoy.
Worked like a champ....thx
With the imminent release of 4.4 for the Nexus I wanted to remind people of this procedure for the purpose of disabling the upgrade prompt or restoring it if you followed the above procedure in the past.

i read this might cause partial wakelocks.. is this true? I absolutely hate 4.4.. the ugly white color, single screen settings, unstable apps, etc etc
It's absolutely ridiculous how google is shoving its stupid updates down our throats.
+ i deleted the downloaded zip update.. but when i go to about tablet > system updates > it still reads that download is ready.. what does that mean? anyway to reset and clean that crap?
No problem with wake locks.
I actually didn't need to freeze the update file.. The reason I was receiving an OTA notification after sideloading 4.4 was that the update that was trying to push was the smaller update (KRT16S) that followed KitKat (KRT16O).. which I was unaware of at the time. I wish they would put the build # on the update screen.. instead it just read 'you have an update to KitKat'. I assumed it was the same ota update that I already sideloaded.. not something that was new.
Also not sure if there's a way to get rid of that info for a new update in the settings. You can remove the notification reminder.. but under system updates, it will always read that an update is waiting. Best advice.. Don't look at that screen lol.
Best way to fix the OTA nag.
Use the OTA...
I was just receiving the OTA nag as well . Went into TB and froze the Google Services Framework and the icon is gone.

Yeah... that will get the job done... but it will 'break' a lot of other stuff as well. Google Services Framework does much more than just handle OTA's... so, not a good idea.

1. What other notifications might that also disable?
2. What is the file name of the 4.4 ota update and where can I find it so I can rename or delete it?
Thanks
After a reboot I got notification to update apps so It doesn't break playstore updates. Gmail, I can hear the sound when an email arrives but no notification. It will do for me, tho not sure if it's for everyone.

What about the one called
com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver ?
Does that need to be disabled too, or does it do something unrelated?
Why not just make a copy of system/build.prop, and change the version to one that was never released, like 4.1.3?
Thanks OP.....this worked for me. I'm sticking to 4.2.2 stock and rooted now. And no more nag.

Work finally.

Xposed on Note 4

I installed this last night and the program itself works but every time I restart my phone it says "Updating" on the status bar and I have no service
When I uninstall Xposed it still says "Updating" in the status bar but it goes away after a minute and I get service again
I turned off System Updates and the problem still happens
Any solutions?
I would like to add my strange experience to this thread. I installed the Xposed framework and right after reboot I noticed that the google play store would no longer fully download anything. I would go to download or update an app but the progress stops randomly during the download. (The download would stop progressing and the little downloading icon in the notification bar would disappear) This strange issue is fixed by uninstalling the framework. I'm wondering if it has to do with the Note 4 touchwiz rom or the new google play apps that have been recently pushed (it seems they were just updated, I swear!)
I just wanted to leave this here. I will try running the framework again
Also I tried it with NO modules running.
Hey,
Installed this yesterday on my Note 4 to change the app DPI and Res so I can get Play Store tablet view etc. Went through the install, changed the settings, rebooted and the store is still the same so I don't think it's actually doing anything.
The apps I changed are shown in red, does this mean the settings are applied or that there is a problem?

Same experience here. It would download apps at the end of the day, but it takes 3-5 minutes per app. Also I start getting Google Services and google.location "unexpectedly stopped" errors after reboot. Disabling xposed framework makes these errors go away.
I have a Note 4 with a stock rom. Everything on x-posed is working perfectly for me... the framework and 20 modules all dead nuts as far as I can tell. That includes private mode.

You need multiDPI Patched playstore and Google play services to change the DPI, it will not work just by changing in App Settings. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839871

I am also using Nova Launcher .....could that be why the app icon wont trigger the app from staring up?

This app will tell you whether or not it's due to your device failing Google Play Services' SafetyNet API. Android pay will only work if the result is Green

But I CAN OPEN the Android Pay app and use it when I open from the Settings>Google> Android Pay scenario. Odd...what is causing the app icons to error out?

Mine didn't start working until I reflashed 100% complete stock.. I used the wugz tool kit and reflashed to 100% stock.. I still have an open bootloader though.. I had to turn off Google play services reboot then it automatically updated and boom worked.. I didn't even loose my data..

If you didn't lose data, I assume you used Wugz ‘Flash Stock + Unroot’ with ‘No Wipe Mode’, which "preserves your userdata and cache". That is essentially how I got from 5.1.1 to 6.0 and then to 6.0.1 with fastboot.
How did you turn off Google play services? Disable and Force Stop are grayed out in Settings, Apps. I'm already at Google Play services 8.4.89, which is newer than the 7.3 that the Play Store shows. I think I'll give it a try...

Yes, I am rooted at the moment with Chainfire's systemless root 2.64. My plan is to reflash with fastboot, not root, activate Android Pay long enough to buy something and get my $20, and then root again. I still don't see any advantage to pulling out my phone to pay for something, when I can swipe a real card faster. I'm a sucker for free money though.

About BK Disabler new update

So from what I read the devs removed "service disabler" function. What it's mean? the new update make the app useless? There's a lot of piss off people.
But more important if the app is now useless to disable services, and of what I read on xda, people ask for service disabler apps, and bk was recommended, what can we use now?
Does the new update kill the "Theme Service Disabler with Tasker + bk" method?
Thanks
Service disable means you still can use the apps but some services like getting location or pushing notification will not be started, because you disabled.
But now, this option will be removed, not sure if they will release the apps to somewhere.

I assume this means you can't disable any new services. All that I disabled prior to the update are still disabled. If I had read the update I wouldn't have updated the app.
I only purchased this app last month because package Disabler pro stopped working.
I wonder if that's the reason my screen off discharge rate went from 0.5% per hour to a little over 1% per hour now?
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Regarding the wording, it is disabling packages, not services. In the app, I could not find services.
I think, all is well and drama not appropriate, but they should have worded it a lot more in detail.
You can disable any app you want, what you can not do now, is disabling individual services within the targeted app
After this same thing happened with Easy Disabler and Package disabler pro on the N7, I have disabled auto updating for BK since I installed it.

Just go to the BK play store page and uncheck auto-update. You need to disable the updates for both BK and the plugin.
My Note 7 was working great too but Verizon finally disabled my service which seems like some sort of violation to me. It didn't seem worth fighting them over it though.

PS: I am trying to disable services so OTA updates don't happen while I use the note 8 for a while before I decide if I want to root it. Obviously I don't want updates to happen and prevent future rooting. If there is a better way than BK disabler I am open to suggestions...

BK Disabler - Services Removal Explanation
@Limeybastard
Which menu within this app allows me to disable system apps that are now not allowed?
There appears to be confusion regarding the changes.
Allow me to explain.
(I've also attached a screenshot to illustrate what is missing in the newer versions.)
With earlier versions of BK Disabler, you could disable ANY Service AND still run the Application.
This would be useful if you didn't want a specific Service to run alongside the Application (e.g., You are investigating a battery drain related to Google Play and found 'AppMeasurementReceiver' Service to be the culprit. You could disable that Service but still run the Application).
With the new version of BK Disabler, you can no longer disable Services; only Applications.
The ability to disable Services WITHOUT root is a powerful option BUT can cause stability issues if used carelessly.
So you needn't worry as the new changes in BK Disabler shouldn't affect you.

Your issues with Play store, reminds me of 2 x similar incidents, i had with my old Note devices.
Think it was Note 3 and my Note 4. Not sure.
Unfortunately It was a few years back!
eg.
When i tried to download, an apps update etc and
app size was eg 2mb or 5 mb.. etc I struggled to download.Very frustrating!
Eventually after a week or 2, maybe 3.
i was able to pinpoint
the the "suspect"
(Unfortunately i cannot remember clearly ,
but it was either, that i had sideloaded
wrong updated version of Play services apk
(Cleaning Play services cache did not help.)
or it was an Xposed /Xposed model.
(So phone was also rooted)
Anyway ,
i then decided to factory reset and Playstore
was working fine again.
Bottom line is
you can either look for the "suspect"?
causing this.
( I know there was a few threads about similar issues with Playstore, on XDA... way back then ! )
or save yourself from the frustration it's causing?
and try a "clean" Factory reset.!
Good luck
Have you tried cleaing the cache data in the internal storage? That usually helps with this sorta issue.
Tried that not working in either what you said

Is it on wifi or data?
Reset router modem.
Do other apps lag like YouTube or Netflix.
Download speed bad in your area.
Uninstall GP updates and try to reinstall them or apk from web.
Is updating apps through wifi only ?
Clear out all pending updates and restart device.
Do you have another device or friends to see if it's the same problem on theirs too for your region.
Try a different proxy.
Just throwing some ideas around!!
Go into your Google settings and see if you have it to update using wifi only I personally always turn auto updates off.. I had this problem with my Note 8 when I 1st got it. How I fixed it was I went into settings and went to apps and cleared the cache and data on Google play services and playstore and foreclosed them and then went to accounts and removed my Google account and restarted my phone.. when my phone rebooted I went to the playstore and had to login fresh again and that fixed the problem.
I fixed it by factory resetting phone. Thankfully I backed it all up
