Help with download mode Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Dual SIM 64GB SM-N950F korean - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello all . I have problem with note8 . bought it few days ago , owner did wipe the phone thru recovery wipe data etc after that the phone normally turned on .
so i checked it and all worked without issue . turned off the phone then the guy removed hes simcard .
when i got home i put my own sim into it (same network as the guy i bought it from ) turned on and now all i am getting on the screen is " Please enter Privacy Protection password to unlock .
the previous owner vanished but i checked the imei and its clean .
After googling i found out that its asking for the password because the original sim was removed and the only way to bypass it its to flash it with other rom / firmware .
I got stock firmware corresponding to the model but i cant access download mode on it .
tried volume down + bixby + power no luck
volume down + bixby + power , release power but still holding the vol+bix brings me to screen with options i guess chinese ...
vol up+bix + power brings me to recovery
Can anyone help me with it ?

Try "USB JIG Emulator - Samsung 300K" to get access into download mode

First your phone is a galaxy s8 sm-G950F
Which imei number did you check the one on back of phone or when you dial *#06# in dialer to check?
I would check the imei from *#06# (not the serial number).
Download Phone Info Sam app from play store. See if the imei matches and that you have a exynos soc.
And yes you'll get a download mode and that Chinese letters is most likely your download mode options. Which might mean you got a pretty good fake galaxy s8.
As I know you can't flash sm-G9500 (snapdragon soc) onto a Sm-G950F (exynos soc). So don't know where the Chinese language popped up from or where you can change the language for download mode.
Check out the galaxy s8 forums for any info.

Not sure what's going on here.first screenshot is common for China phones, which is the base for all China cloned phones.
Second screenshot belongs to a samsung s8 phone.
But your title says note 8.
Either you are confused or the phone is confused.

HI Hi am wondering if you could help with my Galaxy Note 8
I am able to install the firmware using ODIN without any errors on download mode but after ODIN is finished the phone turns off and does not boot.
I have taken the phone to a repair shop as well and they have confirmed that there is no hardware issues,
My model number is SM-950F , basically stuck on download mode

Try getting into recovery mode and do a factory reset.
Or
In Odin use all 4 files AP, CP, BL, AND CSC (use the CSC file NOT the home-CSC ). (Try checking Nand erase all.)
Also you can do both if you want too.
I wonder if you need to re-partition your phone?
I would take the phone back to the service shop you took it too and tell them to get it working. I find it hard to believe they will tell you it's not a hardware fault when they can't get the phone to boot up! If they cant get it to boot they need to give you a new motherboard.
How did they check the phone without the phone booting up? Isn't that there first test to see if the phone starts up to home screen?

No luck turning the phone on recovery mode only can use download mode and i have tried the same files with the Nand erase all, the same thing .. Odin installs all the files without any errors but does not boot up after installation is finished.
The service shop said they checked components on the motherboard and there is no damage or no IC has been damaged.
What do you suggest i do next?

Then you have a bad motherboard!
If they cant get it to boot then it is a bad motherboard and they need to replace it!

Phone does not connect to Network (started after being stuck at samsung logo)

Hi everyone,
I rooted my note and was using Jon ROM V3 for the last 3 months. Never had any malicious apps and my phone was working as usual.
Yesterday I took my phone and see that it is stuck at Samsung logo (an hour ago it was working fine). Tried reset and re-flashed ROM but no luck.
Later through download mode i flashed Official Indian Firmware(I live in India). Now I by passed the logo screen and the phone shows full signal bars but not able to connect to carrier network.
(tried all basic work out like removing battery/sim and re-inserting to phone and boot up)
I pressed power key and it did not show the power menu , it directly switched off mobile.
I rooted again with Philz kernel and flashed JON ROM. Still i see that my phone is not able to connect to any network. Also I observe that even here on this ROM when i press power key it directly turns off.
This is weird. I thought my IMEI was wiped off but im lucky to see that its still there.
I need your help. Im without my phone for the last 2 days now.
-
Jonathan
Note - I find that my IMEI number has been changed (to some generic IMEI 004999010640000) after i flashed the official firmware !!!! that's why it is not connecting to any network.
Someone please help me.
How did you flash the official firmware?
was it a tar file or a zip? I mean did you use odin?

It was a tar file The official Indian firmware I got from sammobile
either a glitch or you selected by accident clear efs.
anyways without efs backup hard to recover emei.
Do you get the simcard enter pinscreen on boot? If you dont then its not imei, if you do then you need someone like cvxcvx, search to fix it. That or Samsung

No I do not enter pin for simcard. I see my imei has been changed to 004999010640000. I tired fixing one problem and got onto another.
I guess there is no way other than sending my device to Samsung !
Anyways I appreciate your help. Thanks

You have a so called "developer IMEI". If you didn't safe your EFS then there is no real chance to restore it yourself.
There is a member (cxlcxl) who has hardware and can restore the original IMEI remotely.
But you still can use your device. Try to change the Sim Pin in the settings: you can use the same Pin for old and new (this is easier for me because sometimes I forget the new number).
After this the network connection should come back.
My workaround in my Pristine Custom Rom: one different jar-file that doesn't have the checks on startup from my old XXLSC dump. With this it works completely normal: Sim and Pin are always recognized from startup. I'm using this for many months now.

i have had my device rooted since the week i got it in october successfully, no issues. when i got the phone it was on the oi6 firmware, rooted it and put MOAR rom on it, no issues. then on the 23rd the day before i was going to go out of town i changed my primary google account password on my device, and for some reason i couldnt tell you why other than it didnt seem that it would be of any significance that OEM UNLOCK option was enabled so i turned it off not thinking anything of it, and right after i reboot the phone i found myself in a bootloop. only going to samsung galaxy note 5 powered by android with little red writing at top that says custom binary blocked by FRP lock. so i did some research and it became obvious what my issue was that the oem unlock should never had been touched. from what i figure, but that didnt validate why i was never given the chance to actually verify my account being that the device hasnt booted back into the os or any screen other than the splash screen i mentioned and download mode. thats the only two things i can access my download screen reads this
ODIN MODE

i have tried flashing stock oi6, ive tried PIT file for oi6 ive gotten errors starting from couldnt open com port ehich seems to vary from the different versions of odin more or less, ive gotten complete write fail error, ive gotten COULDNT GET PIT FOR MAPPING as well as THERE IS NO PIT, and so i tried flashing one andit failed or just wouldnt go through, i mean ive just about ran the well dry as far as what ive read to do. Odin recognozes the device, i just cant get it to flash anything. as for all i know the device is wiped. my assumption.

Try use Samsung KIES (or Samsung Smart Switch) on Windows PC to flash/restore your firmware. I've never had to this way though.
And BTW. This is not a "hard brick", so your thread title is misleading. It's "soft"...

Awfully suspicious if you can't find your serial number.
They all come on the sticker that seals the two halves of the box. This is standard from Samsung.
And you're in the wrong forum. .

mate, its really nothing to worry about, it isnt hard bricked,
i had the exam same issue, that oem lock can be a real pain in the arse,
all you need to do is download the firmware, and i mean not just the same android version, but the same, as in oc1 ok1, what ever version you were rocking,
in my case it was the latest firmware available on sammobile,
and flash it via odin,
after that you must wipe cache, data, and factory reset to be a able to use your phone,
once booted,
you can login with you google account, enable oem unlock from dev mode, and install custom recovery and do what you do from there.
cheers

ALL EARS
So long as you are using genuine Samsung firmware or smart switch you do not need OEM unlocked.
If Odin is not recognizing your phone something has gone wrong with either your drivers or your phone is in a bad state.
Power down your phone, if you have to because it is restarting, catch it so you get back into download mode.
Then follow these steps exactly as they are laid out.
Open Smart Switch, click MORE, click Emergency software recovery and initialization, click device initialization, type in your model number using caps and dashes such as SM-N9200 or whatever your device is, then input your serial number again using caps for all the letters in your SN, finally connect your phone to your PC and continue with the prompts from Smart Switch.
The problem is since you have a carrier version, smart switch may not work. There was a guy who said it would not work for an AT&T phone.
Good luck.
Edit: I checked in smart switch using the sprint model number and it took it so you should be good to go.

yes i can get it in download mode ive installed the drivers from samsung website for the note 5, and installed them. is there other drivers i should install fgor it to recognize it? i also am successful in getting smart switch to recognize the SM-N920P for my phone model but i am unclear on how to obtain the serial number that smart switch wants. ive tried the dec hex the imei esn hex and the spc none of which it accepts. i have the box and it doesnt say serial number anywhere so im lost when i get to that point

That is a problem then because you need that number. It should be labeled SN and should be a mix of letters and numbers. Perhaps sprint keeps those records on file.
Good luck.

Confusing galaxy note 5!

I bought a second hand galaxy note 5, on the back cover of the phone the model is written SM-N920C but in download mode is written SM-N920d ! Nevertheless when I check the model at "setting/about the device" the model was SM-N920I
The problem started when my note 5 was flashed with venom rom then I accidentally formated all system files so the phone stuck in Android logo, I tried to flash the phone using Odin and SM-N920c but Odin said FAILED just when I click start. Now the phone is off for the battery is dead and it couldn't be charged , please help me to find the right flash and is there any way to flash it without download mood?
Use Kies and do an emergency recovery. It'll also be able to determine the actual model number. You probably didn't update the bootloader when usong Venom or something. Usually you want to update to the official marahmallow and then flash after that.

Thanks for your comment, I did that already but kies does not support emergency recovery for Note 5 SM-N920c!
I've used it once on my 920c when I initially messed something up. You may need to invoke download mode. Turn the phone off and hold home, volume down and power.
Oh, and there's a modern version of kies which works for modern Samsung phones only.
Did you install a custom recovery immediately after rooting? Always do this first.

N920d or N9200?
In your case, I would go with what is mentioned in the download mode since the back glass can be replaced with another model and ROM flashing can alter model # sometimes.
PS: you need to be sure that it was an original Note 5, not just a copy. I'd recommend taking it to the nearest service center to have it checked out.

It's either 920C or 920CD (for dual-sim) or 9200 for Chinese models.
The first two will have similar firmwares but the 9200 uses different one.
Have you verified exactly which model it is? What does Kies mention when you connect?

As per my search on google, the n920D is Docomo variant.
I haven't been able to find the stock firmware anywhere as of yet.
Flash a custom recovery for your variant (TWRP>others) and then flash a custome ROM that is compatible with 920D.
There must be some on XDA itself.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your great efforts my friend. The problem still the same, no stock firmware for N920D

OEM Toggle is shown but can't be toggled; phone unable to go into download mode.

Hello XDA, I hope that you could help me troubleshoot my Note 8 (N950F).
So it's been 7 days and oem unlock toggle has finally appeared.. The only issue is it is greyed out and unselectable.
When I got this device I wasn't able to see developer options by pressing build number (though I got the notification that it was enabled), I was only able to access the setting by downloading an app short cut for it via the play store and on initial launch it said developer options are disabled. But then second launch it worked. Idk if this is significant but maybe the country this is meant for disabled it? Regardless of the sim card being in/out the phone, it is still greyed out. Also, I was able to factory reset the phone through the settings after downloading an OTA (I did this in hopes of developer options being enabled about a week ago.)
I tried to boot into download mode but it seems I can't boot into it (following the steps only lead to a normal reboot, and when I select that option from the stock recovery or through adb, it only boots the phone up normally. I purchased the phone off of swappa, in brand new/like new condition. Any ideas? Thank you for your help.
Edit: added screenshots.
SM-N950F / DS here running Taiwan software BRI and I have the option maybe if you flash this firmware you'll get it.

Thanks for the answer! However, I don't think I can flash firmware because I can not go into download mode, which is needed for odin to flash firmware

That's weird I've never seen a Galaxy that can't enter download mode.

Exactly. That's why I'm so concerned.
Have you logout your Samsung Account and Google account?sorry for my poor English.:crying:
Do you use any of the KNOX stuff? Did you do any factory reset?
Can you "clear data" on "settings" app? this would make the "developer option" menu hidden again. Then re-show it by tapping build number numerous time again. Hoping that OEM is now editable.
Hi, could you solve this problem? My Note 8 has the same problem and I have not found any solution :llorando:.
I would appreciate it if you can help me.

Galaxy S10 Live demo unit help

Hi all,
I've got a galaxy s10 live demo unit from my friend ( He has a cellphone shop which is now closed ). I tried to flash stock firmware (with all the files AP,BL,CSC,CP) using odin. Once the flashing is finished (odin said PASS!!, the phone reboot and stuck on samsung dim dim logo for hours and doesn't wanna boot into the system. I've tried several stock firmwares and everything still the same. I tried all the solutions (factory reset, wipe cache) but doesnt help. Can anyone please let me know how to make the phone works like normal ? Do I have to do anything with the firmware before flashing?
Regards
Did you flash the rom for your specific model?
Also, I do have to wonder about those circumstances - especially given how new the S10 is..... Your friend just "happened" to close his shop right after getting live demo units and Samsung didn't want them back...... ?
You at least have a nice paperweight.
i have tried to flash serveral g973f firmwares. It all says Passed!! In odin but getting stucked on samsung dim dim logo. Can anyone help me to find the solution or how can i go back to live demo unit firmware to use the phone as tablet (at least the ads/videos of the live demo unit better than a non working phone)
Anyone can help plz?
Can't you call this friend who used to have a cellphone shop to help you out? I'm guessing he should know, as he's in the habit of giving out free demo units to friends.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

1) Get the proper firmware(if you don't already have)
2) Try another Odin app, such as 3.13.1, 3.13.3 or 3.13.1_3B (Patched)
3) Also having a sim card inside helps too

CDMA is the antiquated phone network formerly used by Verizon and not the same as live demo. When buying a demo, just be prepared to be disappointed. Many demo units can never be used as a phone.
